complaint. >> we are tremendously dependant on people of courage steing forward. >> reporter: it was the first whistle-blower's complaint that triggered the impeachment investigation. it alleged president trump abused his power by repeatedly urging the leader of ukraine on a phone call to investigate his potential 2020 rival, joe biden, and his son. just last week the president also called on china to investigate the bidens. >> you really think he was serious about thinking that china's going to investigate the biden family? >> he said it right there in public. why can't you answer yes or no? do you think it's appropriate? >> because i don't think that's what he did. >> reporter: republican senator susan collins joining a small group of republicans publicly condemning the president, calling the president's request to china completely inappropriate. but not commenting on the ukraine phone call. >> i don't want to prejudge the evidence. >> reporter: the president lasen sent, whhad er d fosecu business dealings while his father helped carry out the obama administration's foreign policy as vice president. biden penning an op-ed in the "washington post" saying the president slanders anyone he sees as a threat. >> it's only a benefit for joe biden to stand up in a forthright, very energetic way and take the fight directly to donald trump day in and day out. >> reporter: there has been no

trying to piece together a murder mystery that some are calling an execution. >> the only thing we heard was one shot, then a double tap after that. >> reporter: a silver sedan seen speeding away from a parking lot turned crime scene. the only victim carrying no form of identification. but police revealing that victim was joshua brown, a key witness whose testimony may have helped convict former dallas officer amber guyger for the death of botham jean inside the apartment building where the three lived. brown testified less than two weeks ago, at times emotional, remembering how he would hear his neighbor singing gospel hymns from his apartment across the hall. he also described hearing jean's fan thge du llr coinl tanfntroat someone say, hey, put your hands up, in a loud tone? >> no. no, ma'am. >> reporter: it was what brown didn't hear that night that gave prosecutors reason to challenge guyger, who testified that after she mistakenly entered jean's apartment thinking it was her

commands to show his hands before shooting. >> not one of them heard you say that. >> i can't tell you why. >> it's because you s'tdn it. >> reporter: activists calling for justice for brown, and offering a $100,000 reward. his family speaking through an attorney saying brown was a reluctant witness and question if his death was connected to his testimony. >> he was shot and left to die by someone who clearly had an ax to grind. it's important that we answer who that person is, because right now there are strong implications, at least, no evidence, but strong implications, that this may be retaliation for his testimony in the amber guyger trial. et enep r>> brown's testimony and his murder. they've been very tight lipped about this investigation. that silver sedan the only lead they're sharing. there's no physical description of any suspect. kaylee hartung, abc news, new york.
