travel mode for dolphins. they do it when they're scared or when there's food in the area. also in california, a former cheerleader is suing uc berkeley accusing her coaches of bullying her into cheering after she suffered multiple concussions. >> she even claims that even though she was seriously injured she was told not to go to the doctor. here's abc's paula faris. >> reporter: while many are seen on the sidelines, cheerleaders are often as physically tested as the athletes on the field. but one cheerleader says the dedication to the sport that she loved came at a price. 23-year-old missy martin was once a cheerleader at uc berkeley until she says she suffered multiple concussions while cheering for the squad. >> every day i have a headache. yesterday specifically i was dealing with nauseousness and i couldn't work on my homework. >> reporter: now the former cheerleader is filing a lawsuit against the university and her former coaches claiming the coaches bullied her to keep

cheering at both games and practices after she suffered her first concussion in october 2017. missy says the injury occurred when she accidentally got kicked in the head. according to the complaint, missy developed a severe headache and eventually other symptoms such as nausea, ititig. she alleges that her coaches failed to take her head injuries seriously and she was even instructed not to go to a doctor. while most of the national conversation around head injuries centers around football, concussion risks for cheerleaders are on the rise. in fact, according to a recent study, concussions are the leading injury among high school cheerleaders, accounting for nearly one-third of all injuries. now missy is hoping her lawsuit will create stricter safety measures to be put into place. >> the biggest thing i want is change for cheerleaders. i want them to be safe. i want people to take them seriously. i want them to treat them like

investigate joe biden. abc's mona kosar abdi has the latest. >> reporter: in a scorching eight-page letter to house speaker nancy pelosi, the white house declared it will not cooperate with the impeachment inquiry, writing the investigation is quote dangerous, illegitimate, and a violation of fundamental fairness. this letter comes just hours after the state department blocked the u.s. ambassador to the european union, gordon sondland, from testifying on capitol hill. >> the failure to produce this witness, the failure to produce these documents, we consider yet additional strong evidence of obstruction. >> reporter: sondland is a central witness in the impeachment investigation who reportedly worked behind the scenes to help carry out trump's wishes in ukraine, a country that isn't in the eu. and house intelligence chairman adam schiff revealing new details about the text exchange involving sondland and several others. >> we know from the text messages that ambassador sondland was in discussion with ukrainian counterparts, with fellow diplomatic personnel, and the president, as well as at least one u.s. senator, about the course of events that we are investigating. >> reporter: schiff also says those messages were from a quote personal device sondland turned

overnight across california. the main utility company in northern california, pacific gas and electric, announced it would be shutting off power to millions of people at midnight local time. many were also buying water and other essentials ahead of the power cuts, were are aimed at avoiding more deadly wildfires. this morning people across california will be waking up in the dark. pg&e turning off the power to 800,000 customers in anticipation of high winds in the state that have the potential to spread dangerous fires. >> we very much understand the inconvenience and difficulties such a power outage would cause, and we do not take or make this decision lightly. >> reporter: some residents in 34 counties will lose power beginning early this morning that may last for several days. >> i'm just charging all my phone chargers, and hopefully -- i have an extra cell phone at home and i'm going to hopefully use that as our connection to the world. >> reporter: schools across northern california will be

closed today, including uc berkeley. businesses stand to lose a lot of money and customers. public officials are reacting swiftly saying pg&e has failed. >> this is the type of interruption to lives that should not happen. we are going to do it because we agree that it is in the interest of the safety of people, but we have got to do better. >> reporter: in southern california, social edison is also considering shutting off power to over 106,000 customers in eight counties as well. after investigators determined d 85 people and burned 153,000 acres, was sparked by pg&e power lines. that fire, the deadliest in california state history, forced the company to file for bankruptcy following a $6.9 billion lawsuit payout. cal fire previously found pg&e at fault for 17 other fires in 2017. and based on the large number of outages, it could take several days for pg&e to fully restore power.

>> house speaker nancy pelosi fired back warning that the letter is further evidence of obstruction. her warning comes on the heels of a subpoena for the u.s. ambassador to the european union after the administration blocked him from testifying. the president is accusing democrats of running a kangaroo court even as dramatic new details emerge about what a white house insider told the whistle-blower about that controversial call to ukraine. here's abc's jonathan karl. >> reporter: abc news has learned a white house official who listened in on the president's phone call with the president of ukraine described it as crazy and frightening. this according to the whistle-blower at the heart of the impeachment inquiry. >> this is perfect, the call was perfect. >> reporter: it was on that call president trump told the ukrainian president, i would like you to do us a favor, and asked him to investigate a debunked conspiracy theory about democratic emails. and also joe biden and his son. according to the whistle-blower, the white house official on the call reached out to him the next day and was quote visibly shaken. the whistle-blower says the official told him the call was

completely lacking in substance related to national security. the whistle-blower documented the conversation in a two-page memo and turned it over to the intelligence community's inspector general. the president's made it clear he wants to know who was talking to the whistle-blower, what white house staffer was talking to the whistle-blower, and even suggested that that person is effectively a spy who should be severely punished. there is no evidence that there is an actual search under way here in the white house to find out who that person was, in fact, i just spoke to a white house official who told me there is no evidence of any effort to seek out who the whistle-blower's white house source was despite the fact that the president has said that he wants to know. jonathan karl, abc news, the white house. police in dallas say a second suspect has been arrested for the murder of a witness who testified in the trial of former cop amber guyger. >> they say joshua brown was killed last friday during a drug deal. brown apparently shot one of the suspects who's in critical condition at a dallas hospital. the second suspect was detained

last night in louisiana. a third remains at large. police say brown's murder has nothing to do with his testimony in the amber guyger case. new york state is reporting its first vaping-related death. a 17-year-old from the bronx died from a severe lung condition. he's believed to be the first teen in the u.s. to die from a vaping-related illness. the boy died friday after being hospitalized twice in september. meanwhile another vaping death has been reported in california. more than 20 deaths have been reported nationwide. first lady melania trump is holding a listening session at the white house today. she'll hear directly from teens about vaping and e-cigarettes. the first husband and wife have been sentenced after pleading guilty in the college admissions scandal. gregory and marcia abbott were each given a month in prison for paying $125,000 to rig their daughter's college entrance exams. they kept the payment hidden from their daughter. five other parents have also been sentenced in the scandal. starting tonight, philadelphia hockey fans can let off some steam in the arena without getting in trouble.

we are back. we are back. look at this, new video showing the moment that massive crane toppled over and slammed into a group of homes in long beach, california. a contractor was replacing power lines monday when the crane fell. one homeowner had to be hospitalized after being hit by flying debris. power in the area was also knocked out for a while. no word on what caused that crane to just topple over like that. now to a terrifying and bizarre rampage at a chick-fil-a in lincoln, nebraska. >> witnesses say a dissatisfied customer started flipping he was confronted and left the restaurant. authorities say he returned and rammed his truck into the building. you can see the truck still there. that sent workers and customers as you can imagine running for

safety. witnesses say he then got out of the truck and began threatening customers. he was shot by an officer and died on the scene. from denver, leaked security video shows a fight between members of an airline flight crew. the security footage was obtained by the website flyertalk. the republic airways employees were arrested on charges of domestic violence and assault. they've been fired. they once shared an intimate relationship. overseas a firsthand look at what many scientists are calling an alarming sign of climate change. >> massive glaciers in the alps are shrinking far more quickly than expected. abc's james longman has the latest. >> reporter: it's the tallest mountain in western europe and a tourist destination for millions. mount blanc and its massive glaciers in the crosshairs of climate change. where i am right now, this is france. behind us behind mount blanc, that is italy, and switzerland is over there. this mountain sits on three countries. it is truly vast. the glacier on that italian side is breaking apart 10 times more quickly than anyone expected.

boat that only offered views of the landmark. new york city mayor bill de blasio said the city would ramp up efforts to stop scammers. reality tv stars todd and julie chrisley settled a tax case with the state of georgia. there were allegations that they failed to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in state taxes. a spokesman says the chrisleys have agreed to pay $150,000 to resolve the case. they've pleaded not guilty to separate federal tax evasion charges. designer tory burch is asking new yorkers for help finding her dog offering a $10,000 reward. her 7-month-old miniature poodle, chicken, hasn't been seen since sunday night. an instagram post says the couple was apparently taking chicken to have her microchip scanned. so far no one has scanned the chip. >> such a cute little dog, chicken. when we come back, bachelor pete suffers a very painful injury. and the big headline this morning from the eagles.
