the house is on fire! >> forgive our trespasses -- >> now at 5:00, a desperate situation in california as strong winds fuel the flames in this massive brush fire. it broke out at 9:00 last night. it burned thousands of and pg&e is turning the power back on as fire fears ease in the bay area. when the lights should be back on for most people. >> good morning on this friday, october 11th. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from our accuweather forecast. here is lisa argen. >> good morning to you. here's what's left of a red flag warning, up to the north in lake county and the west slopes of the sierra nevada until 10:00. some gusts exceeding 20 miles per hour. looking at the humidity anywhere

from 15 to 30%. so we are still looking at those breezy offshore winds, but much, much lighter in the upper elevations, 10 to 20 miles per hour. they'll continue to dial back. due to some of those fires we are looking at a wind advisory for the south central bay, air quality won't be as great as it has been. we are going in the right direction starting off cooler. the relative humidity eventually recovering. it's 46 in vallejo. 43 in napa. a chilly start out there. looking at numbering recovering throughout the afternoon into the 60s. today will be the warmest day out of the next three. we have a big weekend with the blue angels. anticipating a slight cooling trend throughout the next couple of days, sue? >> looking at san jose for our early morning commuters. those headlights are headed northbound on 101. this is the 880 overcrossing. this is southbound.

everybody is moving along nicely. hoping for friday light. i don't want to jinx it. we'll keep our fingers crossed. slowing from tracy up 205 merging on to 580 westbound. we have the right lane blocked northbound near 680, marina vista. fire is on scene. the accident is on the shoulder but they did this have to block off the right lane. better news over to san carlos, an overturn accident there, south 101 near holly street had the right lane and the holly exit blocked. everything is now cleared out of lanes. we'll come back in a few with an update. >> thank you. we'll start with breaking news from southern california, this 4,000 acre wildfire burning in los angeles right now. >> the saddleridge fire stretches from porter ranch to sylmar. right now all of porter ranch is under an evacuation order. our los angeles sister station, kabc has been covering the fire all night. here's part of their coverage from about 20 minutes ago. >> let's go to scott right now

over a flank of the fire burning out of control. scott? >> yeah. no doubt. we wanted to give you some perspective of where this is. this is porter ranch. i want to open up a little bit. we'll bring up skymap 7, you can see the little gully in here, it's close to calla vista this satellite slows you where the homes are and the ridge line that's burning. back into the live shot, you can see what we're looking at. as far as the winds are concerned, at least right here, they're relatively calm. if we get some extremely high winds, this will be tough to protect those homes just south of this. even though this is burning, it's not getting hit with 40 mpz winds right now. >> that was our sister station, kabc reporting on the

saddleridge fire. we'll bring you updates throughout the morning. >> investigators believe burning garbage sparked this fire in riverside county that destroyed more than 70 mobile homes yesterda the driver apparently dumped burning trash to keep the garbage truck from burning, but that trash ignited the grass. winds spanned the flames. the sandalwood fire burned 500 acres. it's 10% contained. the pg&e safety power shutoff thankfully is almost .this morning crews are working to restore power to the remaining 312,000 customers who right now are in the dark. at its peak the power shutoff impacted 738,000 customers around the state. pg&e says it had to cut off the power because of the dangerous weather conditions and they were trying to avoid wildfires. governor newsom disagrees. >> this is not from my perspective a climate story as

much as a story about greed and mismanagement. >> i have not delved into those matters. i might have some slight disagreement with the governo if i did i'm looking forward, just trying to make this better. >> pg&e restored the power to about 60% of customers yesterday. the company's resource centers are still open today, just in case they have to accommodate people who still do not have power. looking at the mapp that pg&e has been providing over the last several days. it's a little different than the map we saw earlier in the week. that had all those pink dots that represented the planned power outages. we're seeing here, santa rosa, that's in red. red means that it's a 5,000 or more outage this morning. you can see about 4,000 people here are without power. those ladies we saw earlier may

have to do the hair in the dark for another day. line inspections stop in the dark, so they will resume this morning. pg&e says crews have found multiple cases of damage, including fallen branches on power lines. parts of the north bay are still in the dark, and they're waiting for a return to normal. liz is live in santa rosa this morning with details. good morning. >> good morning. here in the north bay thousands of people are still in the dark entering day three now with no power, no water, no way to take a shower. santa rosa seems to be the area with the biggest pockets of power outages, but it's random where there is power and where there isn't. right here where we are on 4th street, behind us here at this stop light, this intersection, cars just going through, not even realizing that there's a stop light here because the power is out. look at this, right next to it,

this shopping center we're in, a safeway, power is on. safeway lights on. it shows you power some places, not in others. people do seem to be making the best of this situation. wineries closed because of the outage. but look at this, this tasting room was packed last night. they stayed open even though there was no power. customers in the dark there using cups and candlelight. >> people need a place to go. if they have patience and we have patience, we're open. we do things the old-fashioned way. >> it's a testament to their - to them, to just stay open, and be able to support people just appearing at their doorstep. >> now, the did news is a gnome ma, napa, solano and marin counties have been given the all-clear by pg&e because of improving weather conditions, so

morning central valley commuters. a blip there for about a dublin pleasanton.m 205, 508to >> thanks. police in milpitas say they're trying to identify three men who robbed two stores at the great mall. the robberies took place august 25th. authorities released these images yesterday. check them out. you can see eecach of the men inside the great mall home depot. this is where the first robbery took place. officials say then these men went to the jewelers for a smash and grab. detectives are also talking with modesto police about a similar incident at the jewellers in vintage fair mall. in the south bay, a 16-year-old is in custody following a lock down at del mar high school in san jose. sky 7 over the school as students gathered outside yesterday. san jose police say they received a report about a female student making threats and waving a gun. there was a huge police response. police took the teen into custody. they did not find a gun. coming up next, 7 things to

here's live doppler 7, looking at clear skies, no fog not only today but into the weekend. we still have a red flag warning in effect until 10:00 this morning for lake county. you can see up to the north here, also for the sierra foothills, this is around lake shasta, also the west slopes of the sierra nevada. wind gusts from 20 to 40 miles per hour. relative humidity, 15% to 30%. the winds back home locally. they continue to dial back. you notice the colors here indicating a bit of a breeze. 12 to 14 miles per hour. still looking at that offshore component, but as we get into the lighter winds, they will eventually shift to a sea breeze. right now the humidity is dry. 12%. 30% on top of mount diablo. it will take a bit of time before we see more moisture in the atmosphere. 82 in santa rosa. we are going in the right direction. 81 in sunnyvale. temperatures near average today.

there. as we mentioned in our seven things, we have a fire burning to the right hand shoulder and up the hillside eastbound 80 near san pablo dam road. that's causing some delays and distraction there. fire has been called and should be on the scene shortly. >> thanks, sue. so this is definitely not what you want to see if you are headed down the freeway. a driver recording video of a man sleeping at the wheel of his tesla. this was heading northbound on 280 in san mateo. the chp said they got a call about a sleeping driver monday afternoon but they were unable to find him. tesla warned drivers they have to be alert with their hands on the wheel even when the vehicle autopilot is on. macy's union square in san francisco is hosti a hiring event. the store is looking to fill about 1,000 full and part-time positions ahead of the busy holiday season. stop by macy's this morning starting at 11:00. the hiring event goes until 7:00

it's friday morning. we are looking at our morning numbers, 39 in novato. 38 in santa rosa. 52 in san jose. relative humidity is still dry out there. do you feel it? of course you do. 17% in santa rosa. 50% in san francisco. a light offshore wind. as we go throughout the day today, this continues to be very, very dry. conditions should slowly recover over the weekend. they are calm, surface winds, upper elevations still a little breezy out there.

the eastbound side of 80. fire has been called in. they're en route. breaking news this morning. firefighters are battling a 4,600 acre fire in the san fernan fernando valley. this is a live shot from the fire. you can see where it is continuing to burn out of control. it is igniting homes. it's a wind-driven fire named the saddleridge fire. it ignited around 9:00 last night around the 210 freeway before quickly spreading, pushed by 60-mile-per-hour gusts of wind. several homes were seen consumed by flames. we don't know an exact number of homes yet. >> everything, the houses, everything is on fire. it's bad. >> it's bad? >> yeah. >> why did you run? >> my dog was in the house. i had to break the window.

it's not even my dog. it's my buddy's dog. he's stuck on the freeway, they won't let him off. >> interstate 210, interstate 5, interstate 405 and highway 14 are all closed. hundreds of firefighters are battling the flames as well as several spot fires sparking beneath power lines. this fire has zero percent containment. firefighters are watching for flareups for a wildfire in eastern contra costa county. strong winds made the job of firefighters difficult yesterday afternoon. quick action kept this fire to two acres. the flames burned their way to one utility pole but the fire did not damage buildings. on the peninsula, firefighters spent the night at the scene of a brush fire on san bruno mountain. it's out now but crews are watching for hot spots. we first brought this to you as breaking news on midday live yesterday. the 11-acre fire burned in the guadalupe canyon area of brisbane. those flames burned under pg&e high voltage lines, but the company says they were not the

cause. we have a map of the people still affected by the safety shutoff. the winds have died down and 34 counties have been cleared for restoration. nearly 60% of the customers affected have power back. line inspections stopped once it got dark. they'll resume things at first daylight. pg&e says crews have found multiple cases of damage including fallen branches on power lines. we've been watching this outage map all week long. so the map is getting better as the days have gone on. we can still see that in santa rosa, for example, there's still a number of homes without power. thousands of people still waiting for those lines to be inspected so they can once again be in the light. >> we have developing news in the east bay, uc berkeley is closed today and businesses will

be trying to recover. in orinda it's still dark there. good morning. >> good morning. usually the marquee of the orinda theater is lit up. but it's still lights out. pg&e says power will be restored by 6:00 p.m. est bay cities have been looking like ghost towns over the past few days. many businesses in the la marinda area and oakland have been hit hard by power cuts. some losing thousands of dollars in revenue. brad brisco is an oakland contractor. he says while pg&e cut power to prevent fires, businesses and homeowners using generators for the first time were also creating another potential fire hazard. >> this scenario makes everything much more dangerous because then you have people getting generators, hooking up

to their house or whatever, if they put the generator in a bad spot and it gets super windy and the generator catches fire, we have a bigger problem. >> now back out here in orinda, the school district says classes will be held today. even if this is no power. places like uc berkeley will be closed. for a list of all the schools that are open and closed, we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. >> so uc berkeley will not be holding classes today and schools remain closed in the north bay including the sonoma valley unified school district, the waugh school district, and the west side union school district. all oakland unified school district schools are back open, and mills college is back open today. now that power is still being restored, businesses and home owns are assessing the losses from the outages.

one expert predicts the shutdown will have a dramatic impact on our local economy. michael wara said the shutdown will run between 65 million and $2.5 billion. according to reporting in the chronicle, other experts say the economic and human costs are actually incalculable. >> michael finney reminds us anyone who suffers a loss from the power shutoff can file a claim but that doesn't mean you will be reimbursed. michael says that the needed forms are easy to find on pg&e's website, straightforward but that's where the easy part ends. according to consumer groups, the utility didn't pay out a single claim filed by hundreds of customers after last year's wildfires. michael suggests anyone who has a claim should go to small claims court. you can stay up to date on everything related to the outage at abc7news.com. we have new stories, resources and much more on our website. a big change may be coming

well. you notice the absence of the windy icons on the map, so we like this timfear y for the blue angels, the clear sky, certainly could do without the wind. we're following that trend for the weekend. how about the commute? >> commute is good. if you're seeing the blue angels, the freeways are blocked off. you can't pull over and watch them fly. they don't like that. chp will be patrolling. a million people throughout the next few days will be witnessing blue angels and fleet week. just expect some crowds and traffic. to san rafael, the headlights are headed in northbound direction, taillights headed past north gate mall and the civic center. we're fog-free across the golden gate. they pked up the barrier work from earlier this morning. you will have four lanes in the southbound direction, two lanes northbound. it's a beautiful ride if you have to be up. a little bit slow out of the

waking up to a red flag warning for lake county, the west slopes of the sierra nevada. everything else has been lifted. we have breezy offshore winds gusting at times to 40 miles per hour through 10:00. relative humidity continues to be very dry. upper elevation winds, notice how light. they are calm to about 10 miles per hour to 12. you will continue to see them back off throughout the afternoon. with the smoke, the southland looking to moderate to good air quality for an aid vizry today.
