at 6:00 a.m., good morning on this tuesday, october 15th. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from the accuweather forecast. here is mike. hi, guys. we're looking at fog across the north bay. thick around penngrove, jenner and napa. look at the visibility, one mile or less and that will be around for the rest of the morning commute and around santa cruz so be careful. you can see we have low clouds as high pressure is squashing the marine layer. mid-40s to 50s. we'll lose the fog. it will be faded by noon. mid-50s at the coast. 62 to 69 bay and inland. 72 around the bay. 80 a warmer afternoon but short-lived as rain is on the way. let's say good morning to frances. how is the commute? >> good morning, everyone. it's very slow as you make your way out of gilroy because of an

injury crash northbound 101 at maston. a motorcycle involved, the left lane is blocked and traffic is jammed. emergency crews are heading to the scene and they need to use the center divide to get there so gives you an idea how badly backed up it is. the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights turned on early this morning and traffic is backed up to the maze. no major problems reported on the upper deck of the bay bridge. a slow ride, getting crowded as you make your way to the maze for these headlights. a 4.5 magnitude earthquake hit just after 10:30 last night near pleasant hill. so this video is from a nest camera inside a home in pleasant hill. there was no damage but a pretty big jolt. people really all over the bay area could feel the shaking. reporter amy hollyfield is live with details. good morning, amy.

>> reporter: good morning. last night we felt it. this morning we're seeing the effects. here is a game stop shop in pleasant hill where a few games fell off the shelf. nothing major. i'll show you the home goods where a few things fell. we're noticing nothing broke. it's a lot of plastic bottles that fell. in this store we have some water bottles. could have been worse in a store like this. coffee mugs are okay. it's the water bottles that fell. but this is where the epicenter was in pleasant hill so we have noticed this happened at a lot of stores there's -- we saw some bottles that fell off the shelves, all plastic so that is the good news. also a mess waiting to be cleaned up at the o'reilly autoparts store. the 4.5 magnitude may not sound strong but experts explained to us why we still felt it so

intensely. >> earthquakes can produce strong shaking and, in fact, that shaking can be more noticeable because higher frequ larger earthquakes can be predominantly more lower frequency, a swaying motion that can be less noticeable. >> reporter: we also have aftermath at a liquor shore to show you. the owner was there so got it cleaned up quickly. his store is ready to go today. this hit at 10:30 last night. there had been some aftershocks, the strongest is a 2.1. no one was hurt. no major damage reported, but we do expect a lot of people to be talking about it today. it was a tough one not to feel. this one was strong. again, we're noticing little bottles, little things fell. i checked in with the wine store. they said all of their wine bottles are fine, nothing fell there. reporting live in pleasant hill, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thanks, amy.

shoppers inside the target felt that quake. a person took these photos of all those shampoo bottles knocked off the shelf and, mike, i know you have a closer look at exactly where this quake hit. >> if you're familiar with the 680 corridor through there, you know where the best buy is and let me show you where it is in comparison. it's just to the south one block away. walnut creek manor is an apartment complex. according to this plot it was directly under those apartments right next to 680. now where did we feel it the most? around concord, clayton and that's mt. diablo, shook harder than anybody else. the rest of us light to moderate shaking. that's why we didn't see much damage. abc 7 news can help you prepare for an earthquake or any natural disaster.e ps on prg r the next q. electric scooters on the streets of san

francisco. today four companies are expected to drop off more than 2,000 of these two-wheeled vehicles. abc 7's jobina fortson is live to explain what's changed. good morning, jobina. >> reporter: good morning. get ready for scooter-geddon. 2,500 will be scattered throughout san francisco streets starting around 7:00 this morning is when we'll be looking at the rollout happen and right now alex is with us. he is with lime as you can tell by his shirt. one of the companies, the second wave of the scooter program in san francisco, you all did not have a permit for 18 months. you pulled off the streets, what's new, how were you all able to come back? >> i think the first thing i want to highlight is we're rolling out with our brand-new gen-3 scooter. we have shocks on the rear bra is bigger, heavier. the display up here is almost

like the size of a cell phone giving you safety warnings as well as what the speed is and this is what we're excited to show san franciscans. >> reporter: you have the shocks here. this is made for the street. >> yeah, yeah. as you go over the potholes, it's like riding a cadillac. we're very proud of this and very much to show it out in san francisco. >> reporter: the other thing i want to mention, alex, not just lime but several scooter companies have been criticized about not being present in low-income communities. i know you all have something planned for being in the bayview and hunters point as well. >> d ay one we're serving the bayview area. this is a community we've been talking about since we've been applying to the city as well as showing our community engagement. this afternoon we're hosting a safety event called first ride in bayview to educate first-time riders on rules of the road, making sure they feel safe and comfortable and making it a priority to serve the bayview area throughout our pilot.

let's talk about some temperatures on the peninsula. we have a lot of mid to upper 40s, only san bruno and pacifica, 50 the exception under increasing clouds. san francisco, hayward, palo alto at 50. up in the hills los gatos 57. dress accordingly. sunny, our warmest day moving forward will be milder if you're going to be out and about just watch out for the allergies.

light breezes if you're playing on the bay. better news out of gilroy. an earlier major injury crash involving a motorcyclist has just been cleared from the lanes. with all lanes open, we see this recover though it is usually slow. headlights moving northbound and that looks good through san jose but it is a crowded ride westbound across the san mateo bridge right now for taillights moving westbound and the bay bridge toll plaza also backed up into the maze. the 12 democrats batinis mo. it will be senator bernie sanders' first return to the spotlight since suffering his heart attack this month. he's making the case for why he deserves the progressive vote over senator elizabeth warren.

welcome back, everyone. in the east bay there are new details on the fire that burned in moraga. the cause appears to be accidental but no word yet on what started it. people were forced to evacuate their homes. we brought you continuous coverage here on abc 7 mornings during the fire. luckily nobody was hurt. police say the investigation into the fire is still going on and it's expected to continue for some time. a petition is growing to keeping neighborhood bagel shops open. posh bagel is in danger of closing after 15 years in its river mart village location. the owner's daughter started the petition on change.org saying she hopes it gets enough signatures to change the landlord's mind. she says the landlord is not renewing her mom's lease to make way for a korean barbecue spot. so far more than 1,200 people signed the petition with the goal of getting 1,500

least from the weather and the wetness of it. temperatures today you could see we have some 80s, so some upper 70s and low 80s, 84 in morgan hill. low to mid-70s around the bay. tonight you can see the extensive cloud cover once again. temperatures the same, mid-40s to low 50s. watching two cold fronts gathering steam in alaska. notice this one has a lot more white that's deeper moisture. notice you are already starting to see some rain push in. our secondary cold front is really just going to reinforce the cooler weather as we head into the weekend. here we are at 7:00 tomorrow morning and you see increasing clouds. mendocino county and during the overnight hours it's going to rain up to a tenth of an inch of rain. give yourself extra time. temperatures thursday all the way through the weekend below average.

get ready for a tough right. mike showed you that as well. it is backed up through the maze so a good 25-minute wait there. it's slow for folks heading to the richmond/san rafael bridge as well. as you make your way to the toll plaza and it's also crowded on the westbound ride across the san mateo bridge. there are no major problems. it's just slow and go. there's a new crash where traffic has already been slow through hayward anyway. and an earlier motorcycle crash has been cleared heading to maston. traffic is very heavy from the pass up to maston. some sluggish drive times for you as well. westbound 580 tracy to dublin is yellow at 51 minutes. reggie? kumasi? moisture in the north bay. look at all of that gray and visibility less than a mile at our recording stations in napa, cruz. be careful this morning. it's going to be around for the entire morning commute. the kids heading back to school. you can see the light shining through how thin the clouds are. temperatures mid-40s to 50. 50s and 60s at noon with the fog fading and a little bit warmer than average especially inland this afternoon. we'll take a look at the rain coming up. here is frances. mike, i want to warn drivers mike was telling us some thinking fog on 101 as you driv. the fog is not too bad and traffic is flowingel for taillights moving to 580. the bay bridge is backed up through the maze. lots of slow traffic there. that's 880 across your screen. traffic is recovering out of

gilroy. >> thanks, frances. this morning business owners in the east bay are assessing the damage after the magnitude earthquake shook the bay area. >> it's roughly two miles north of walnut creek. the most recent aftershock at 3:00 this morning. amy hollyfield is live in the area. >> reporter: threw a few messes waiting for store employees this morning. we found a few stores with issues. look at all the bottles that fell at cosmo, a beauty store on contra costa boulevard in pleasant hill. they were all plastic, that is the good news. we also found merchandise on the floor at the o'reilly's autoparts store. this hit at 10:30 last night. one store owner was still at work. he was able to get it cleaned up right away.

problems. governor newsom is demanding pg&e pay $100 to each customer affected by the power shutoffs. the moment a verbal argument turns into a violent hit-and-run in the south bay. >> this happened saturday night in downtown san jose. the first few seconds of the video shows two groups getting ready to go at it. you see the man adjust his jeans. because of the graphic violence we're stopping the video because a car speeds through the crowd and hits the man in the dark shirt. i kept recording and, bam, a car came in and hit that poor guy. he just started to go and made a turn right there and then he kind of stopped because the ambulance was in his way and somehow he found his way out of there. >> police say the car involved was a bmw suv and the driver is

stl at-large. hydration stations will be installed in three tiburon schools after water tests in one school showed lead contaminat n contamination. the contaminants were found on three water fountains at bel air elementary. the school district will put in hydration stations with drinking fountains and water bottle fillers and will install them in the other two schools in the district by the end of the year. >> marin health officials are urging you to get your flu shot as soon as possible t. ramps up in october. they recommend you get vaccinated by the end of the month. it's been a rough flew season in the soern southern hemisphere. that doesn't mean we'll see a spike in cases but it can be a good indicator of what to anticipate. >> more scooters are hitting the

it's been slow this morning heading to the bay bridge toll plaza. from highway 4 to the maze is 26 minutes and across the bay bridge is 31 minutes. southbound 101, san francisco to sfo looking good. that's green and ten minutes. of course if you want to avoid the delays at the bay bridge consider b.a.r.t. ace train also looking good right now that is green. there could be some delays in the north bay. mike was telling us about some fog and some other stuff coming up this week. a little bit of rain. it will come in while most of us are sleeping tomorrow night and it will be wet for the commute. it's dry this morning but the temperatures around san francisco we have 48 in the financial district in potrero

hill. everybody else around 50 to 51 with increasing clouds and fog out there. some of our warmer temperatures and only 51 like we're seeing here in the south bay. cool this morning, mild this afternoon. foggy on the bay with some light winds all day. we have 50s all the way through 11:00. we'll hit the low to mid-70s from about 3:00 to 5:00. as far as the south bay goes, 50s through 9:00. our last stop will be our east bay valleys. we'll take a look at that rain coming up. the mistress of evil hits theaters this friday.

good morning, jobina. >> reporter: good morning, kumasi and reggie. four companies made the cut for this rollout including lime here that was not able to operate in san francisco for the last 18 months. what you see behind mean is the strike, a company completely carbon neutral and they are going to be using about five of these around the city to drop off the scooters rather than the advance. this is new video of lime rolling out their new scooters in san francisco. this was created by san francisco supervisor aaron peskin. lime, jump, spin and scoot will deploy 2,500 and 4,000 total possible in february. the scooter company skip lost its license.

thousands of scoot wrers dropped on san francisco streets and ended up all over the sidewalk and in the bay. this time they plan for things to be different and here is what some people think about that. would you ride a scooter? >> i wouldn't because i have friends who have gotten concussions by getting hit by a car. >> reporter: on a scooter? >> i think it's a good idea and i like them. it decreases the number of people using cars. >> reporter: lime staff will promote and sign up residents for lime access in the bayview and in hunters point. it is the low income equity program and will be followed up by a ride safety event. also there will be dozens of membs lime staff and some safety information for them as well. for now reporting live in san

starting to lift and that's a good sign we'll be mostly sunny by the afternoon hours. a chance of rain for thursday, friday and through the weekend. a look at our temperatures today. san francisco is about 68 degrees and 72 degrees around the bay. san jose, our warm spot morgan hill, 84. low 80s in the east bay valleys. 77 to about 81 through our north bay valleys. tonight about the same as this morning. a few 50s out there. this is the cold front at that will keep us cool. it's much dryer, not as much in the way of cloud cover, bright and white reflections. here we are tomorrow morning, notice the increase in the high clouds that will dim our sunshine and make tomorrow cooler than today. while most of us are sleeping, not an earthquake but some light

rain and it's out of here. what is it going to leave behind? a little bit of wetness. thursday's morning commute is going to be a tricky one. be prepared. it will feel like fall through the weekend. frances? ra 680. it looks like it's on the off ramp not on the freeway. we do have a few problems, one in oakland. southbound 13 connection ramp to eastbound 580 an injury crash in the left lane so traffic is slow as you approach 580. also in san francisco an earlier problem cleared. also we'll check out a new crash past 680 in the left lane. so far we're not seeing slowing out of dublin.

headlights moving northbound. there is a problem just before the shot that's been cleared to the right-hand side. the toll plaza is backed up into the maze and slow into san francisco. in less than a year a standard driver's license will no longer be valid if you need to board a flight. californians will need a real i.d. issued by the dmv. the hard deadline is october 1st of 2020. get in now if you want to avoid lines and last-minute changes to travel plans next year. >> for people who have a government i.d., a military person or spouse, they have a good i.d. for the people that want a real i.d., they want to come in now versus august of next year when the line is expected to get quite long. >> yeah, i think i'm going to use my passport to avoid the long lines. maybe it's good to have both. if you do decide to get it, go online now if you're at sfo or oakland or san jose airports
