hours ago. take a look at video from sky seven and it shows crews mopping up the scene. it was a dramatic scene that lasted more than 12 hours and involved hundreds of firefighters from contra costra county, murin county and cal fire. >> reporter: as night fell, the flames flared up. it engulfed new tanks and threatened three more carrying ethanol and jet fuel. >> it has now been can by the secondary containment structure that's doing what it was designed to do. >> reporter: huge plumes of smoke could be seen for miles, they contained dangerous particulates which they're trying to protect the public from. >> the idea you've shut off your

air conditioning, heating and fans. that will protect you in your home from most of the particulate matter. >> reporter: incident siren has been going on for hours after as a recaution. it forced the closer of interstate 80 in both directions. but by 930 all freeways freewae reopened. frfrs >> whev you have an incident so close to the freeway, that is going to be a huge distraction and can result in numerous vehicle accidents. so for this reason recommend the freeways remained closed. >> reporter: now there was one incident involving a contractor from nustar. he was near one of the tanks and he wasn't able to evacuate in time. therefore he hid in a ditch and had to wait for firefighters to help him out.

at the sea of brake lights.yeno0 has now been reopened both directions. and reporting between i 80 and san pablo avenue will remain closed for the nustar incident command post. from 80s closure to shelter in place orders and on and off again school closures, it was a trying day for those in contra costra county. kate. >> reporter: well, just a few hours ago the superintendent of this school said his schools were closed tomorrow was of the nustar incident. but fortunately because the fire is out and under control, confire tweeted the school district will be open. all four schools will have their students back tomorrow.

prior incidents. they had two. the first was in january in pittsburgh. they were loading asphalt when they inhaled toxic fumes. and the other a worker fell off their golf cart. in both cases they found nustar was not at fault and did not issue citations. this is from an abc 7 news viewer who happens to be an instructer. he captured these before crews got the scene. and these satellite images from google earth show us what they looked liked before todays fire. you can see how cloche the facility to 80. let's take a look at what it looked like this afternoon. sky 7 was above crockett when wn
