we had an earlier accident with debris in lanes. for a time all lanes were shut down. now you're backed up beyond high street for a two-mile delay. you're about 30 miles an hour at best. so 580 is green. it looks like it's your best alternate. >> thanks. >> new developments in the cease-fire between turkey and syrian kurdish forces doesn't appear to be working. kurdish forces say a border town is being attacked by turkey this morning. the deal brokered by the trump administration was supposed to order the kurds to withdraw from a border town with turkey. but there's bipartisan backlash because turkish forces are allowed to st here's how the president defended the deal last night. >> it was unconventional what i did. i said they'll have to fight a little while. sometimes you have to let them fight a little while. then people find out how tough the fighting is. sometimes you have to let them fight.

and anti-semitic vandalism. officers say they took 20-year-old logan stone into custody yesterday. they say he sprayed hateful graffiti around burlingame high school last month doing about $1,300 worth of damage. stone is in the san mateo county jail on felony vandalism and hate crime charges. a stockton woman who went to prison after live streaming the crash that killed her little sister is back in jail. she was released less than a month ago but led officers on a short pursuit yesterday and officers found a loaded weapon in the car and she was driving with a revoked license. despite the amount of black smoke that poured out of the nustar energy

fi fire, the company claims its air samples found contaminants at or below detectable levels. engineers are inspecting the structural integrity of the remaining tanks. operations at the site have been suspended. the cause of the fire has not been determined. the woman who has been caught sneaking on to planes in the bay area and across the country is scheduled to be back in court today for her latest trespassing case. she was arrested in chicago last friday. she tried to pass through security at o'hare airport and did not have a boarding pass. she was still on probation from a previous trespassing incident. last call. why a bay area bar is closing in a few weeks. and why a new flower center is opening up blocks from the big project. we have numbers in the 50s around the bay with some mid 40s up in the north bay. we are watching a system to the north that will influence your

waters. as we go through the rest of the day, a few high clouds, then we'll see increasing clouds from this system to the north. there's a look at those possible rain drops as we get into your saturday. today look for 6over in oakland. 70 in san jose and napnapa. mid 60s and breezy downtown. >> let's look at the traffic maps. better news in oakland. chp saying all lanes have been cleared and are recovering from this earlier accident northbound 880 near 23rd. a bit of yellow there. it is recovering quickly. 580 is still in the green. that's much better news. here's a look at some of your drive times. 101 to sfo from the city, just under 10 minutes. your northbound drive from 238 up to the macarthur maze, north on 880, less than 15 minutes. 101 in san jose from 85 to the airport, less than 15 minutes. it's almost time for last call at sam jordan's bar and

implicated in dozens of baby deaths nationwide. now the consumer product safety commission wants to ban the sale of sleepers with an incline of ten degrees or more. bigger inclines can cause babies to roll their heads too much forward or to the side which can lead to asphyxiation. the ban needs to be approved by the full commission. e-scooter company skip has announced they will be laying off dozens of employees after losing their permit in the city. nearly three dozen employees may be laid off in the next 60 days. skip was not among the companies chosen for new permits. the skip ceo is appealing the decision. the behind the scenes story of uber and how it came to be is coming to your tv. showtime is turning the story of uber into a series. it will be based on mike isaac's best-selling book called "super pumped: the battle for uber." we had him on midday live. the creators of "billions" is taking on the project. the series will depict the roller coaster ride from the creation of uber through the initial public offering. an 84-year-old army nurse

out there. a few clouds for the afternoon. a system to the north we'll be watching for your saturday morning. let's take you to the gulf coast. this tropical system is allowing for perhaps storm surge up to five feet, some gusty winds along with heavy rain throughout the panhandle of florida. this will go through monday it will move up the eastern seaboard. they had that one system. another one looks to be on the way. we'll be watching this system to start out with the cloudy and potentially wet start to your weekend. it won't last. things will turn around. here's the view from mount tam high above where the winds are still quite breezy. it is 51 in san jose. 45 in gilroy. and we will be looking at the cooler numbers to the north. napa in the low 40s. 47 in santa rosa. d with those winds anywhere from 25 to 35 miles per hour from mount diablo to mount tam. we are looking at the winds not getting into -- temperatures not getting into the 30s. that's the plus side. for the afternoon, we're slightly cooler than we would be

the warm springs line in the richmond and daly city directions because of equipment problems. we'll check back in a couple of minutes. today pg&e gets some feedback. the california public utilities commission holds an emergency meeting to address last week's power shutoffs. >> abc7 news's live in kuper tecupertino with . >> good morning. cupertino is one neighborhood that felt this shutoff. many have described this as a failure, and they will discuss that today. the commission is having this meeting with executives. in a letter the public utilities commission outlined seven areas that need to be corrected immediately. the top three are accelerating

the restoration of power with a goal of less than 12 hours, enhancing efforts to minimize the size and magnitude of future power shutoff events, developing systems and protocols to ensure public information through call centers and pg&e's website is available during high volume and critical times which we know that did not happen this time around because that website was not working. it's fair to say people impacted by the shutoff can agree with the outlined issues, and thousands of customers in northern california feel pg&e has failed them. that meeting, 1:00 today in san francisco. we will follow all of the information that comes out of that meeting stick with us on the air, online, we'll have our special media updated as well for all of that information for you. reporting live from cupertino, jobina fortson, abc7 news. cal fire says a wildfire in

lake county shut down highway 29 near spruce grove road. you can see in this cell phone video, the fire burned close to the road as people evacuated the area. the fire broke out around 8:00 last night. it has grown to ten acres. cal fire ordered mandatory evacuation for about 45 minutes. those evacuations have been lifted. new video of a growing brush fire in southern california. people evacuated the city of golita near santa barbara. the fire started around 5:00 last night and it has grown to 450 acres. both directions of highway 101 closed at one point because of the smoke. that highway has also been reopened. more than 200 firefighters are on the scene. on the 30th anniversary of the disastrous loma prieta earthquake san francisco had some trouble getting their new emergency alert system off the ground. anyone within county and city limits were supposed to get a test alert from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. yesterday, but the emergency message went out at 6:14. san francisco's emergency

managers say they will be able to use the delay as a way to improve on the system. other people we spoke to say yts better than nothing. >> i think it's good they're figuring it out. and toopefully execute in a earn more efficient way next time. >> the city says it still may be a few days before it figures out what actually led to the delay before the emergency management office can launch another test it will have to get fcc approval. a california fault capable of producing an 8.0 earthquake is moving for the first time. the garlock fault is located in southern california and is on the northern edge of the mojave desert. the movement is causing a bulge in the ground that can be seen in satellite images. and there's a warm of quakes in another section of the fault. scientists believe the 7.1 quake in july triggered the garlock fault to begin moving. that quake left a rupture that's only a few miles from the fault.

a high school swim team was on board. two people are critically hurt. developing in the north bay, afight over friday night lights. san marin high school was supposed to have its homecoming game tonight but some say the football field's lights are too ight. a judge even issued a restraining order to keep the lights off. amy hollyfield has more. >> reporter: no friday night lights here in novato tonight. they're too controversial. the issue even inspired a homecoming float in last night's parade it called for the lights to be turned on. but a judge has ordered that they stay off for now. the judge wants time to read the environmental impact report. those who are fighting to keep the lights off say they are just too bright. >> imagine not car headlights but huge mega truck headlights focused on your home. the whole side of the home was lit up. you could easily read a book.

carpoolers at the bay bridge. the carpool layne is an unusual situation a little bit slow. not too bad. hopefully once you get on the span traffic is moving well. a few brake lights before the tunnel, things pick up on the san francisco side. new accident blocking the two left lanes, san jose, north 880 near stevens creek. i'm seeing some slowing back to the 280/17 interchange. the merge from west 24 on to westbound 580 is slow. an earlier four-car accident. two of those cars left the scene. two remain on the scene. slow westbound around san pablo dam road back to appian way. the latest numbers from the cdc show vaping deaths are on the rise. there have been 33 vaping related deaths nationwide, three of them in california. nearly 1,500 people suffered lung injuries in connection with e-cigarette and vaping. people got sick in 49 states.
