me down♪ good morning. i'm kenneth moton. >> i'm elizabeth hur in for janai norman. here are some of the top headlines we're following this morning on "world news now." a tornado reportedly swept through northwestern dallas overnight. tens of thousands are without power and there are reports that a supermarket roof collapsed. and another storm system is on its way to the region. a full forecast straight ahead. the first landmark federal opioid trial is slated to start today in cleveland. an offer of $48 billion in cash was rejected during a last-minute settlement talk. attorneys clashed over distribution of the settlement. for the 34th time since last december, a race horse has died at santa anita park near los angeles. a race horse suffered a leg injury on saturday and was put down.

are reported this morning but it was a close call for many people as we look at the force, wow, of this possible ef-2 tornado. you can hear the screams and the ye scentherju adamel rsot th and oth wth prob. adam, good morning. >> kenneth, elizabeth, good monday morning. we're tracking more severe weather across parts of the south. we had those tornados cross texas yesterday. that threat farther to the east across the lower mississippi river valley to start off the workweek. we're talking the threat for damaging wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour. flash flooding, can't rule out hail or isolated tornados once again. that front being pushed through by this area of low pressure which is actually moving across the northern plains into the great lakes region. we're tracking some showers and

a few storms across that region as well. out west it's a different story. it is dry, it is warm, and it is windy. and that means more of a fire threat across southern california from santa barbara all the way down to san diego. kenneth, elizabeth? >> adam, thank you. turning now to the acting white house chief of staff scrambling to walk back remarks admitting there was a quid pro quo in the administration's dealing with ukraine. >> meanwhile the president suddenly dropped plans to hold the g7 summit at his resort near miami amid criticism he's trying to profit from the presidency. here's abc's david wright. >> reporter: at the white house a rare retreat. president trump tweeted next summer's g7 summit will not be held at his florida resort after all, blaming media and democrat crazed and irrational hostility. >> he was honestly surprised at the level of pushback. >> reporter: trump himself first proposed hosting foreign leaders at his doral resort. >> we have incredible conference rooms, incredible restaurants. it's like -- it's like such a natural. >> reporter: trump promised to host the doral summit at cost, at his word, quickly signaling their plans to investigate. foreign leaders and some

mulvaney told fox news he didn't actually use the words quid pro quo. >> i never said there was a quid pro quo because there isn't. >> reporter: this week, house impeachment investigators expect to hear from another key witness. bill taylor was the top u.s. diplomat in ukraine after president trump recalled the ukrainian ambassador. he's the guy that back in september sent a text message saying he thought it was crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign. taylor expected to testify tuesday. david wright, abc news, the white house. >> all right, david, we will see what this week brings. syria, the clock is ticking on a pause in turkey's offensive against the kurds. nearly.s. troops out of dered the country, "the new york times" now says he's now leaning in favor of a plan to keep some 200 special operations forces in eastern syria to combat isis. and a kurdish commander is slamming the cease-fire deal.

a house fire north of los angeles almost cost a firefighter his life. he slipped off the roof and fell to the ground. luckily he suffered only a shoulder injury. firefighters quickly knocked down that fire and kept it from spreading in those high winds. also in california, we're getting our first look at actress felicity huffman behind bars. >> the former "desperate housewives" actress has been spotted in her prison uniform inside the federal correctional institution in dublin. here's abc's kaylee hartung. >> reporter: a rare look, actress felicity huffman inside the walls of this california prison halfway through her 14-day sentence. inmate 77806-112. in her green prison uniform and white hat greeting visitors. that's her husband william h. macy and one of her daughters visiting the federal jail outside san francisco. >> dublin is almost a camp. it is a place where minimum-security prisoners enjoy the luxury of being

storms through our monday across the lower miisriver valley. damaging wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour possible, flash flooding as well. can't rule out hail or isolated tornados. it's all thanks to this area of northern plains into the great lakes region tracking some rain and some storms across the area as well. meanwhile out west, different story. it is dry but it is warm and it is windy. and that means a fire threat once again across southern california from santa barbara all the way down to san diego. elizabeth, kenneth? >> adam, thank you. now to the army's investigation of the deadly training accident at ft. stewart in georgia. >> it happened early sunday morning when an armored vehicle rolled over into water, killing three soldiers and injuring three others. abc's stephanie ramos has the details from ft. stewart, georgia. >> reporter: investigators are looking into a deadly army training exercise at ft. stewart in georgia that killed three soldiers. officials say all three died at the scene after the bradley

fighting vehicle they were riding in rolled over into water early sunday morning. officials say no other vehicles were involved. another three soldiers also in the bradley were injured and all of them part of the 1st armored brigade combat team stationed at ft. stewart. >> fortunately casualties in training mishaps are quite rare, but the real tragedy lies in they can almost always have been prevented. in this case, investigators go back and look at what were the circumstances? we know that it was very late at night. 3:30 a.m. was fatigue a factor? was with area factor? was there a problem with the machine itself? why didn't they see this water before it rolled into the water? >> reporter: the commanding general of the 3rd infantry division saying this is a heartbreaking day, we are extremely saddened by the loss of three dogface soldiers and injuries to three more. our hearts and prayers gouto all the families affected by this tragedy. two of the three soldiers injure wednesday treated at the army

hospital and released. the third soldier was transferred to a hospital off post and is expected to be okay. officials say they'll release the names of those who were killed once their families have been notified. stephanie ramos, abc news, ft. stewart, georgia. >> our thanks to stephanie. president trump is reportedly leaning in favor of keeping about 200 u.s. troops in eastern syria to combat isis. >> "the new york times" said the president is considering the new pentagon plan after ordering the withdrawal of nearly all american troops from syria. a u.s.-brokered cease-fire is set to expire today, but there have been reports of continued clashes between turkish forces and kurdish troops who were abandoned by the u.s. president trump's acting chief of staff is still trying to walk back those bombshell comments. he acknowledged the white house withheld nearly $400 million in military aid as leverage to push ukraine to investigate democrats. mick mulvaney's admission stunned reporters after weeks of denial from president trump. he's now insisting there was no quid pro quo and pointing out he

desperately searching for a 3-year-old abducted more than a week ago. >> family and friends gathered to pray for camille "cupcake" mckinney's return. abc's kaylee hartung has more. >> reporter: for the first time, authorities releasing surveillance video showing the moment before 3-year-old camille mckinney was kidnapped in birmingham. police say camille and another child are seen here playing. as a man approaches the children and walks away. >> we want to see if he has additional information. >> reporter: police believe that witness, who's not considered a suspect, may hold key information about this second man who police believe is the kidnapper, seen here leading the children away. camille hasn't been seen since. >> to have a child of tender age, 3 years old, that's been missing a week. if someone has her, are they taking care of her? >> reporter: a surveillance
