[ bleep ]. we have a tornado. >> reporter: radar tracked the twister for 17 miles across the northern part of the city damaging homes and flipping cars. >> so i went and got in my bathtub and put pillows and a mattress over me and just held on and it felt like a train just like they say it does. >> reporter: one of the damaged homes is owned by pro hockey player tyler seguin of the dallas stars. here's the home before and the picture he tweeted after the tornado. >> holy cow. >> it left tens of thousands

without power. >> the winds knocked down power lines leaving tens of thousands without power. >> windows busted. the gas meter in the backyard is hissing. our backyard fence, tree, patio cover, everything was just down. >> reporter: this morning there are reports of at least one building collapse along with several businesses including this home depot and the roof of this church now gone. >> we just started praying that we would come through alive. >> reporter: christie was watching the cowboys game on the tv when it came barreling through. >> we've got a huge tree in the pool. our fence is down. we've lost another tree but we're alive. i never dreamed that i would be in one, and i know this was probably a light one. i don't care what kind it was. i never want to be in one again. >> several people were taken to the hospital but no serious injuries are reported from these storms. we'll take a closer look at the forecast in less than five minutes. now to another story breaking overnight. word that president trump may be in favor of keeping about 200

u.s. troops in eastern syria to fight isis. "the new york times" reports it is part of a new plan from the pentagon that the president is now considering days after his order to withdraw nearly all american troops from syria triggered a backlash in washington. meanwhile, despite a u.s. brokered cease-fire that is set to expire today, there have been reports of continued clashes between turkish forces and kurdish troops in syria. the kurds are voicing concern about ethnic cleansing. our george stephanopoulos asked secretary of state mike pompeo about that concern. >> can you assure the kurdish people and the president's allies in congress that you will not be party to ethnic cleansing? >> george, we were very clear and the vice president could not have been more clear when we were speaking with president erdogan in that turkish controlled space that there wouldn't be attacks on minorities, that this was about getting a cease-fire, a secure area and that this, in fact, will save lives. >> that cease-fire deal brokered

by the u.s. has been criticized as favorable to turkey allowing its troops to occupy new territory while forcing the kurds from their homes. the army is trying to determine why three soldiers were killed during a training exercise at a base in georgia. their bradley fighting vehicle like this one rolled over into water early sunday morning at ft. stewart. investigators are looking at a variety of potential causes. >> fortunately casualties in training mishaps are quite rare but the real tragedy lies in that they can almost always have been prevented. in this case investigators will go back and look at what were the circumstances? why didn't they see water before it rolled into the water. >> in addition to those who lost their lives three other soldiers were injured. well, we turn to the impeachment showdown in washington. president trump's chief of staff, acting chief of staff, mick mulvaney is once again trying to clarify his remarks about a quid pro quo with ukraine. torsed h h

summit at one of his resorts after critics accused him of a corrupt act that violates the constitution. abc's andrea fujii is here with the latest. andrea, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, elizabeth. both democrats and republicans criticized the president's proposal to host the summit at his resort even though he promised he wouldn't profit. but now a change of heart as he calls out the media and democrats for the decision. president trump upset with the fallout over his plan to hold the g7 summit at his miami resort. the president tweeted he was forced to cancel the idea because of do nothing democrat/fake news anger. in a rare reversal the president blamed it on, quote, irrational hostility. last week he directed the group of 2020 summit to be held at his doral resort. though the president promised to host the summit at cost, it sparked immediate backlash. even the white house counsel's office privately expressed reservations as did some

the fire that spread through a row of homes.led in pajamas. ten homes in a single block were destroyed. 44 people have been displaced but nobody seriously hurt. investigators are now looking into whether a gas explosion started that fire. work crews have now taken down two construction cranes at the site of that deadly hotel collapse in new orleans but the danger is not over. officials say the controlled explosion sunday went well and as a result the evacuation zone around the hard rock hotel was reduced but a sewer line was damaged and crane is hanging over the building which remains unstable. >> way better than what it looks. i know what it looks like. we talked about cutting the crane, remember, and then it hooking on the building. exactly what it did. >> there was only minimum damage to a neighboring theater. ne s tretrieve the bodies of two workers killed in the collapse. then the rest of the building will be demolished. some of the people injured in the collapse have already filed a lawsuit against the companies involved in the construction. well, we're seeing new
