here with the reaction and fallout. ines, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, kenneth and kaylee. bill taylor testified that the order to withhold military aid came directly from the president and that in exchange the ukrainian leader would have to agree publicly to investigate trump's political opponents. overnight vice president pence insisting there was no quid pro quo when president trump asked the leader of ukraine to investigate his political opponents. >> the american people can read the transcript of the phone call the president had with president zelensky, and they will see there was no quid pro quo. >> reporter: but the top u.s. diplomat in ukraine, bill taylor, telling a different story during his testimony before congress. >> in my ten short months in congress, it's not even noon, right, and this is my most disturbing day in congress so far. >> reporter: democrats in the room say there were audible gasps as taylor detailed the white house pressure campaign on ukraine. taylor says he was given no official reason for why millions

of dollars in foreign aid was held up but that u.s. ambassador to the eu, gordon sondland, told him trump wanted the ukrainian president to announce a public investigation into his democratic rivals writing in his opening statement, ambassador sondland said everything was dependent on such an announcement including security assistance. he said that president trump wanted president zelensky in a public box by making a public statement about ordering such investigations adding that the president told sondland the ukrainian president had to clear things up and do it in public, and if he didn't, trump said they would be at a stalemate. the white house now calling taylor's testimony a triple hearsay with some of the president's biggest supporters still standing by him and blasting the impeachment probe. >> this is fundamentally un-american, and until it changes, i will fight back as hard as i can. >> reporter: and later today deputy assistant secretary of defense laura cooper is expected to testify. kaylee and kenneth. >> ines, thank you.

former vice president joe biden was among those who criticized president trump tuesday for describing the impeachment investigation as a lynching. biden blasted trump saying impeachment is not a lynching. it's part of our constitution but biden was later forced to apologize after an old interview surfaced of him making a similar comparison about the impeachment of president clinton back in 1998. take a listen. >> even if the president should be impeached, history is going to question whether or not this was just a partisan lynching or whether or not it was something that, in fact, met the standard. the very high bar that was set by the founders as to what constituted an impeachable offense. >> and in his apology on twitter biden said it was not the right word to use but criticized the president accusing him of choosing his words deliberately and stoking racial divide. five democrats called president clinton's impeachment a

lynching. the search for a missing 3-year-old alabama girl whose family calls her cupcake ended in tragedy. police say the body of kamille mckinney has been found in a dumpster. she was abducted from a birthday party in birmingham october 12th prompting a massive search. two suspects, patrick stallworth and derick brown, now face capital murder and kidnapping charges. stallworth has unrelated child pornography charges. >> tonight our entire city is mourning. kamille is gone. >> tomorrow we will be screening warrants for kidnapping and capital murder against patrick stallworth and derick irisha brown. >> both suspects are in custody. authorities say there is no known connection between the suspects and the girl's family. we turn now to a fraternity at penn state university suspended after the death of a high school student. the 17-year-old was found dead at a house off campus while visiting from out of town. it comes just two years after a student at the school died in a hazing incident. this morning a fraternity at

penn state is suspended after the death of a visiting high school senior. officers were called to an off campus house where police say they found jack schoenig in cardiac arrest. he was pronounced dead at the scene. police say there were no signs of trauma. several witnesses present when the teen fell unconscious. >> he was the type of kid who would walk into a room and could lighten up the whole room. >> reporter: at his high school in erie, pennsylvania, a memorial outside his locker. friends describe him as larger than life. >> jack was just a great person in general. he could walk into any room like jake said and lighten the mood. he knew exactly how to make anyone smile. >> reporter: right now there are no allegations of hazing or alcohol connected to shown anything's death. the house where police found him was not the fraternity's official residence but the university immediately suspended the alpha delta chapter of chi phi. the head of the national chapter says it's deepened saddened by the death adding though the at-issue incident occurred off

campus at a house that is not owned by chi phi, the chi phi fraternity will assist in he way possible. the coroner is waiting for test results before ruling on his cause of death. more flooding is expected today east of seattle. several major rivers are at or above flood stage after heavy rain and early snowfall in the cascade mountains. many roads are closed due to flooding. meanwhile, heavy winds whipped up the waves in lake michigan. they were up to 20 feet high causing significant erosion on the eastern shore. some houses may have to be moved back from the beach. and a developing story from hawaii where homes on maui are threatened by this large brush fire. nearly 1,000 acres have burned. several houses had to be acuated. and a small airport on the island had to be closed. the other big weather story today is the critical fire danger in northern california due to heavy winds.

we're back with a horrifying scene. a tree falling right into this home in maryland. incredible video. the two teenage girls at home were not seriously hurt. their father credits a steel refrigerator with saving their lives. the house was seriously damaged so the family has moved into a hotel. a fund-raising website has been set up to help them rebuild that's raised about a thousand dollars so far. turkey and russia have reached a deal to divide control of syria, cementing their power as they push the kurds away from the border. after holding talks in russia, vladimir putin and turkey's president erdogan said their forces will now patrol the border giving kurdish fighters a new deadline, six days to exit the region. the kurds may have little choice

to accept the deal after the wraul of u.s. troops. meanwhile, "the washington post" reports a prayer event scheduled at the trump hotel in washington has been canceled due to security concerns. and breaking overnight, lawmakers in hong kong have officially withdrawn a controversial extradition bill with china which ignited months of violent protests. it's one of five demands made by pro-democracy protesters. the founder of the tech company wework is getting paid not to work. adam neumann is being paid $1.7 billion to walk away from the job after a takeover deal. the company's top investor softbank is paying him the money. up to 2,000 workers are also expected to be laid off. that means neumann will be paid about $850,000 for each laid off worker. developers have finally figured out what to do with this bizarre building in central ohio. it will now become a luxury hotel. the big basket as it's called was built for a company that made baskets, but that company went out of business leaving the building empty in recent years. it was in danger of being demolished until now. if you're looking for a

concrete that investigators say should have halted construction and closed the road before the collapse. we turn now to the new charges in the college admissions bribery scandal. >> they could result in more prison time for parents fighting the allegations including lori loughlin. "people" magazine reports the actress is terrified of these new charges. this morning, pressure mounting for the parents fighting charges in the college admissions scandal. 11 parents who have pled not guilty in the scheme are facing federal bribery charges including lori loughlin and her husband. a source close to loughlin told "people" magazine the actress is terrified saying, quote, they feel like this is david versus goliath. how do you go up against the federal government when the government has decided to make an example out of you? the "full house" actress and her fashion designer husband, mossimo giannulli have pled not guilty after being accused of paying $500,000 to get their two daughters into usc by posing them as crew team recruits even though neither rode crew and now new court filings are detailing the couple's alleged role in the scheme. >> do you guys have any comment?

>> reporter: prosecutors say the alleged mastermind, rick singer, emailed the couple about their oldest daughter writing, it would probably help to get a picture of her on an erg in workout clothes like a real athlete too. giannulli replied, fantastic. will get all. according to court documents, giannulli forwarded an invoice as part of the payoff to his accountant writing good news, my daughter is in usc. bad news is i had to work the system. >> additional charges mean additional possible time behind bars. this is clearly prosecutors trying to pressure these parents into cutting a deal. >> reporter: these new charges come as actress felicity huffman is set to be released this weekend from prison. the "desperate housewives" star pled guilty admitting to paying $15,000 to have a proctor correct her daughter's s.a.t. scores. another parent who cut a deal, jane buckingham, expected to be sentenced today. >> when your friends tell you to lie on your resume, you 100% do not do it.

>> reporter: the best-selling author and tv personality pled guilty to paying rick singer $50,000 to have someone else take her son's a.c.t. exam. in a letter to the judge buckingham apologized saying my family and my children have been lucky to have so many advantages that other families and children do not and yet i committed a crime so my son could have another advantage, an unfair and illegal one. prosecutors are asking the judge to sentence buckingham to six months in prison. buckingham is asking for one year of probation instead. a high school student in northern california will face attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting a fellow student. authorities evacuated the school in santa rosa with their guns drawn. police say the 17-year-old suspect argued with another teen then shot him and fled into the school. he was later captured and led out in handcuffs. one student says she was sitting next to the suspect just before he was arrested. >> probably at least like 20 cops or 14 cop, i'm not sure.

they had their guns then they searched us and told us to put our hands up. yeah. it was scary. >> the lockdown school and two other locations was lifted after the teen was taken into custody. the 16-year-old victim is expected to survive. in medical news a new study is linking the use of social media to poor sleep among teenagers. the study finds that high users of social media meaning those on it between three and five hours per day are 17% more likely to fall asleep late on a school night than other kids, and 54% of them will wake up late for school. those teens also reported waking up frequently during the night. high social media use has also been linked to anxiety and depression. in sports the washington nationals have taken the first game of the world series. the nats took the lead for good with some clutch hitting in the fifth inning. they held on for a 5-4 win over the astros. game two is tonight in houston. up next in "the pulse," an easy way to get free beer. also ahead, the haunted house that requires you to sign a 40-page waiver. >> no thank you.

antioch to concord, 32 minutes. san rafael to san francisco, 15 minutes. in a few hours pg&e will decide whether or not to shut off power to 35,000 customers in the bay area. >> amy hollyfield is live with the timeline and what counties could be impacted. >> the big today at noon, that's when they will decide if they will turn the power off and the first round of outages would start at 2:00 starting in the sierra foothills. in the bay area the first outages would start at 3:00, that would be napa and sonoma in the north bay. pg&e says they are monitoring the weather. the ceo says they're doing this to prevent wildfires and save lives and that these outages could be the reality for the next ten years. governor newsom says that won't work. he has been very critical of the power outages. >> ten years of this cannot
