bit. we expect metering lights to be on in about 20 minutes or so. moving over to the san mateo bridge, you can see we have some brake lights showing, but we're seeing the same story across the bay area. that's good news, excluding the altamont pass, that's our usual problem spot. the richmond-san rafael bridge, six minutes. san mateo bridge, 13 minutes. dumbarton bridge, 8 minutes. 34,000 pg&e customers are preparing to be in the dark today and tomorrow. >> pg&e could cut the power to parts of three bay area counties because of the high fire danger. the shutoffs could happen in san mateo, sonoma and napa counties. we're told pg&e will make that decision between 11:00 and 1:00 today. lauren martinez is live in napa county with how people are preparing this morning. lauren? >> reporter: businesses and homes could be without power

starting at 3:00 this afternoon. 7 stshg 7,500 drenresidents could be affected by this. that's less than two weeks ago. here's a list of areas pg&e says could experience shutoffs. they include anwin, calistoga, deerpark, lake berryessa, oakville, pope valley, rutherford. losing power makes life difficult, especially for one woman we spoke to who is 95 years old. >> it's shameful, actually, when you really think about it. what can you do? it's not nice. you know, but it's happened before. >> all of st. helena and half of calistoga could be out of power. those living east of calistoga will have power thanks to temporary generators that will kick on in case of a blackout.

highway 101 to cupertino, 10 minutes. thank you. this is the next thing i want to tell everyone about. young drivers are not just texting and driving. a new study is finding that 1 in 6 drivers between the ages of 17 and 25 are usi snapchat behind the wheel. queensland university of technology surveyed more than 500 young drivers and 16% of people surveyed said they have opened snapchat on their phones while driving. of those drivers, 15% admitted that they have sent photos and videos. macy's will stop selling real fur products. the department store says mink, fox, sable and other fur products will be out of the stores by february of 2021. macy's worked with the humane society to develop this policy. it will continue to sell fur products from animals ethically raised for food like sheep skin.

coast. 90s in the hottest spots. the red flag warning starting in the north bay a noon, then the east bay hills at 3:00 p.m. then the santa cruz mountains for 7:00 p.m. we'll take a closer look at those winds coming up in a few minutes. first let's check on traffic with jobina. >> we are starting off with a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights came on around 5:20. it is definitely stacked up there. brace yourself for that one. this is what people expect going through this route every morning. in the south bay, looks nice and clear. this is 87. a look at our drive times as well. excuse me, mass transit. 26 trains on b.a.r.t. no delays. ace train, no delays. and the ferries no delays. looks like public transit is the way to go. in just a few hours, pg&e will decide whether or not to shut

off power to 34,000 customers in the bay area. >> amy hollyfield is live with the timeline and what counties could be impacted. good morning. we're expecting that announcement around noon today. as of this moment, pg&e has not decided whether to turn off the power. they do think they'll be announcing that around noon today. they are watching for expected hot and windy conditions. start a wildfire. if they decide to turn off the power, the shutoffs would start at 2:00, starting in the sierra foothills. in the bay area the first outages would start at 3:00, that would be napa and sonoma in the north bay. san mateo county would be the last county to lose power. those lights would go off about 1:00 tomorrow morning. governor newsom is not happy about this. he says pg&e has created this problem for californians. >> for decades they have

neglected investing and undergrounding and heartening their infrastructure. we're here because of their greed and mismanagement going back decades. >> reporter: if this outage happens, they predict they'll start turning the lights back on tomorrow around noon after checking the lines for problems. the pg&e ceo says outages could be a part of our lives for the next ten years. governor newsom says he will not let that happen. after we get through this wind, more is on the way. pg&e is warning there could be a third round of power outages this weekend and into next week. all of that is being watched close closely. first up the big announcement today at noon on whether this shutdown will happen. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. a small school district in san mateo county says it will handle a power shutdown differently this time.

the bartola district will remain open. it canceled classes two weeks ago. officials say not having school is disruptive and nothing can replace a teacher in front of the class. pg&e is saying the outage website will be ready to handle the load this time around. the site went down during the last shutoff. the company says it has an alternate address ready for the expected increase in traffic. they mistakenly gave out the wrong web address yesterday afternoon but eventually corrected that mistake. the areas in gray have all been told they could lose electricity as early as 3:00 this afternoon. we have a list on the bay areas facing shutoff on abc7news.com. b.a.r.t.'s new general manager, bob powers, will visit two stations as part of his listening tour. powers will be at the bay fair station in san leandro from 8:00 to 9:00 this morning then the civic station in san francisco from 3:00 to 4:00 this

i'm meteorologist drew tuma. time getting close to 5:44 a.m. the red flag warning going into effect later on today. warm temperatures expected again. already into the 70s by 10:00 a.m. later this afternoon we're in the 70s to upper 80s. well above average for this time of year. the winds pick up as the sun goes down later tonight. prepare for another warm day across the region. even along the coast, 80 at half moon bay. 90 in santa rosa. 89 in concord. another look at that red flag warning and we'll preview the weekend with the seven-day coming up. happening today, the push to pass a 1 cent sales tax to help pay for some transit projects across the bay area will take another step forward. the mtc will consider the plan today. the proposal is for a bay area-wide 40-year 1% sales tax that would generate 1$100 billion.

the money would be dispersed to transit districts for big projects to ease congestion. voters could see it on the november 2020 ballot. the president of the toronto raptors will not face charges for shoving an alameda county sheriff's deputy during the team's celebration last june. masai ujiri was trying to make his way on to the court after the game six victory. the deputy tried to stop him because ujiri did not have proper credentials. officials said it was better to settle the case outside of the courtroom. building a better bay area is a shared responsibility and in the south bay some 49ers players, local law enforcement and a group of bay area kids got together to do just that. the mission is to make education and community a part of their every-day game plan. here's amanda. the 49ers held a science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
