news for building a better bay area, abc 7. >> live breaking news. it is in sonoma county where a major wildfire is raging out of control. it's exploded to 10,000 acres overnight. that new update coming in the last five minutes. acuamaatons are underway and there are some road closures. the pg aupd e power shutoff is affecting 179,000 people. the power affecting more people overnight. good morning on this thursday, october 24th. we are on early at 4 a.m. because of the kinkaide fire and the pg&e power shutoff. >> we want to show you this video. this is a dramatic look at what we're dealing with this morning, what firefighters and people in

this area are dealing with because they have to evacuate. this is video that came into our newsroom of the kinkaide fire. you can see flames burning on both sides of the road. the smoke is so dense you can't see too far ahead of you. all of this is happening near guyserville. evacuations are underway this morning. >> we have multiple crews in sonoma county this morning to bring you the latest on where this is burning. we're going to start with lisa argen. she is watching the winds. what are we up to? >> we have winds over 40 miles an hour up in the upper elevations here and some of these winds are certainly drying out. all the winds are drying out the atmosphere. we have the red flag warning. as we look at the relative humidity, 12% and 11%. elsewhere, not as bad. we continue to see the gusty winds as we go through the afternoon. notice the colors, the reds, the yellows. i'm going to stop this at 7:00.

we're still up to 40-mile-an-hour winds in cloverdale. as we go through the afternoon, the good news is we'll continue to see these dial back. this is 9:00 still very gusty. off shore flow and by 11:00 they're beginning to lighten up. still coming from the land to the sea and the off shore flow will continue into the evening hours. 73 degrees in san francisco. half moon bay, 67. that is due to the gusty upper elevation winds and that strong ridge of high pressure. we will talk more in detail about your forecast for today and the weekend coming up. breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> back to our breaking news in sonoma county where crews are battling a fast-moving fire near guyserville. the kinkaide fire sparked around 10 last night. heavy winds fueled the flames and the fire has already grown to 10,000 acres with zero containment.

it's in a rural area. cal fire says there are not a lot of homes there. >> we're hoping that we'll start to see the winds subside as we get closer to the morning hours. i know we have the red flag conditions through part of the day tomorro, but as daylight comes we'll have a better visual of what we're dealing with. it is pretty rugged terrain up there. >> in a statement, pg&e says fire is in the area where power was turned off. right now the cause of the fire is still unknown. the utility company shut off power yesterday afternoon to nearly 27,000 customers in sonoma county. >> thank you. we know this wildfire is prompting evacuations. >> here are the areas under an evacuation order. red winery road, alexander mountain road and highway 128 from geysers road to river road. that includes river rock casino.

two evacuation centers have also been set up. the first one is at windsor high school at 8695 windsor road in the town of windsor. the second evacuation is at the healdsburg community center at 1557 healdsburg. >> we were in sonoma county overnight. >> here's what she saw two hours ago. >> reporter: we're here on red winery road and you can see the flames burning over my shoulder. it's so dark out here because it's obviously a rural area and also the pg&e outage andthere's no electricity. it's difficult to tell what's between us and the fire which we imagine is a couple miles from us as the crow flies. neighbors tell us there are a lot of vineyards and a valley between us and the234r5i8s. we did drive up pine flat road, which is one of the markers for the fire. the fire department had been giving out. that took us what seemed like

behind the fires and awaym where the flaserurning so we came back down the h a then drove up red wineryd where a lot of hes been evacuated. i have spoken to meem have stayed around. they're watching flames. >> reminisce september of 2017. it's closer and it's worrisome. you're kind of powerless over what's going to happen. this is mother nature. this is the new normal unfortunately. >> reporter: as far as evacuations, there are a lot of them in the area and there are some evacuation centers that have been open at healdsburg commune knit center and windsor high school. for now though reporting on the border of geyserville and heeldsburg, abc 7 news.

amy holifield got to sonoma county and she joins us live near the fire lines. good morning, amy. >> reporter: good morning. wait until you see the huge red glow behind me. look at this sight. it is just -- it's jaw dropping. as we were driving on highway 101 we could see the glow, but once we got here we just couldn't believe our eyes. it is massive and there's so much smoke. but it is lighting up this whole hillside. i am standing on alexander valley road. i'm in healdsburg looking up at this fire, the kinkaide fire is what they're calling it. i also want to show you some video closer at the scene, although it is an impressive sight standing back here looking at it. look at this video driving on geysers road through the fire. just a really intensifier and not showing any sign of letting up right now. so this area, they have put

evacuations into place. one thing for you to keep in mind if you know someone in this area and you're able to watch this broadcast, they might not be able to because of power outages. this is a good time to reach out to everyone you know in this area. they have evacuated the area. highway 128 from geysers road to river road, that does will you the casino and all of the roads off of river road. they want you to leave this area if you are still here. get out of here. also, i'm going to step back into the shot so you can see my hair blowing. i'm leaving it down for you so you can get an idea of the wind that we are dealing with out here. maybe you can see the vines behind me blowing. there is a pretty good breeze here and we get a couple of gusts as well. that's the wind that firefighters are dealing with and that is fueling this fire which has exploded to 10,000

in sonoma are in the outage zone. annapolis, cloverdale, fulton, guyserville, glen ellen, gurnville, lockfield, center rosa, sturts point. it's important to let you know the kinkaide fire is burning near guyserville. 7,000 customers are in the now a closer look at one napa county city without power. part of calstoga. some restaurants were open last night. that's because pg&e generators are powering parts of the city. it is frustrating people who live just minutes away with no power. >> shut the power is not the solution. two weeks ago they shut the power off on the anniversary of the fire. that was a big slap in the face

to everybody that lost their homes. >> many people we spoke with say they're confused over who gets to have power and who is left in the dark. i'm monitoring right now on the live desk on the pg&e outage desk on the website. the last time there were problems with the website crashing. here is the website. it is working. a couple things i want to point out for you all. there is a fifth tab at the end that says public safety power shutoff. you can see the peninsula here. if i continue to zoom out, all of that pink you see, pink or purple, however you see it best, that is where the public power shutoff is happening right now. it is all derway. you can zoom in and get a little closer, and i also want to bring up another tab for you if you'd like to get more specific. this you can find directly on the home page of pg&e's website. scroll down to where you see get current information. you're going to click on that, then you're going to scroll down further and you can see the

areas, we have the foothills, the dates where it was announced where pg&e said it was going to happen, following that when the power was turned off and then the start time all the way down for each area that's impacted right now. it says to be announced as to when restoration will begin. when we come back i'll also show you another portion where you can put in your physical address and see if your home is impacted. honestly, you probably know if it already has. i will make sure where to find that. power outage season affecting schools. the schools are hidden valley enmen try, santa rosa accelerated charter, rincon valley middle and in rinconrincn valley six schools will not be open. whited, bingly, madrone, sequoia

elementary. guyserville united school district will close all of its campus. tomorrow is still up in the air. depending on pg&e. they're opening six resource centers in our area this morning mp you can go to air dned places, get the latest. there are three community resource centers. they are listed on the screen. there's also one in san mateo county at la honda fire brigade. the centers will be open from 8 in the morning until 8 at night. napa county is opening centers where you can charge your electronics. they're at the pacific union college fire side room and the yountville library. it's scrolling at the ticker that you can see at the bottom of the screen. >> going to check in with

meteorologist lisa argen. are we at the peek of the winds? would that be accurate to say? >> not quite. we are certainly going to see the red flag warning until 4:00 this afternoon. as we look at live doppler 7, this is going to continue. the warm, gusty temperatures right on through the noon hour after about is is 12:00, that's when we'll see conditions calm down. temperatures in the upper 60s. big dome of higher pressure. yesterday.t on the heat from 31 degrees above where we were yesterday at half moon bay. napa, you are warm. everyone is experiencing mild, dry weather. here we are with relative humidity at 12%. napa, nevada, vallejo. even san francisco. relative humidity in the 60 to 70% range. half moon bay, 12%. that's all due to the sinking

air wringing out the moisture. check this out. at 1:00 we are down to 7% relative humidity. that is a bone dry atmosphere. as you look at the south bay, very dry for concord, livermore. 12%. let's continue through 5:00 today. really very little recovery. lake veriessa, 8%. we begin to see them come up just into the teens. really not a great big improvement, but at least the winds. here they are. they're going to begin to dial back by the afternoon. as we go through 7:00, 30 miles an hour at calistoga. 20-mile-an-hour winds. all the colors here, reds indicating strongest winds. let's take it to 9:00. we're still very gusty but as we get towards about 11:00, 12:00, notice. it's still gusty. beginning to see the winds lighten up just a little bit. here we are at noontime, the colors disappear.

we're looking still at the off shore flow although the winds will lightenup. fire danger index takes us through 9:00, 10:00, into the noon hour. after that we look for winds to be a little bit lighter. look at it, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s al around towards the bay. >> the biggest thing we're talking about is a sig alert between guyser road and downtown guyserville. that is because of the fire. we are taking a live look now at the bay bridge toll plaza. we can see that it is light there this morning and it's pretty much the same story across the bay area, san jose, 87 clear there as well. just a quick look at our drive times before we go here. tracy to dublin, 27 minutes. san rafael to san francisco, 17 minutes. we will be back after this break continuing to follow our

centers to help people who are forced to leave their homes. >> lauren martinez is at one of those centers and joins us live. good morning, lauren. >> reporter: good morning. we are at one of two evacuation centers. we're at windsor high school right now where the red cross has set up an evacuation inside of the gym. there are a handful of people here. if you need a place to sleep, to rest or just regroup, you are encouraged to be to windsor high school or the healdsburg community center. here at windsor high school you can bring small pets. there is a mobile trailer here in the parking lot. it's ran by the sonoma county animal services. for large animals you can take them to the santa rosa fairgrounds. now at the healdsburg community

nter they are pet friendly so if you have small pets, cats or dogs, it's okay to bring them to that center. red cross volunteer here at windsor high school tells me that they are going to regroup in the morning and consolidate these two evacuation centers so they're going to combine them and take them over to the healdsburg community center. i'm lauren martinez, abc 7. >> thank you. be checking with her throughout the morning. we'll check with >> very gusty winds. gusting 29 miles an hour in the area. the temperature up in the north bay, wow, their numbers are into the 70s. having computer problems right here. trying to shut things down so that i can show you exactly what is going on. we are looking at high pressure

in control and ashat happens the atmosphere is dry and we are pushing down in the atmosphere. the moisture is wrung out and looking at not only the gusty winds but below relative humidity. down to 20%. as that happens we are looking at prime conditions for fires. and so throughout the day today with the off shore winds looking at not only the low relative humidity. temperatures well above average. that's what we're concerned about. here's that big dome of high pressure and the red flag warning in effect now until 4:00 in the afternoon. we can see winds gusting up to 60 miles an hour. surface winds up to 30 miles an hour. this is at the surface. you go up 1,000 feet, there's a look at the fire. the winds are up to 40 miles an hour. 69d in san francisco. 70 at redwood city. here in san francisco it is just as mild. upper 70s santa rosa.

east bay. red flag warning for the friends in the east bay. deablow range, santa cruz mountains. highlights to take away, strong, gusty winds in the upper elevations. high fire danger through today and sunny and warm over the next couple of days. look at the cooldown. we get it on sunday. here's another round of very gusty off shore winds. we'll be watching closely into the second half of the weekend. >> thank you, lisa. we are following the sig alert right now. it is in the north bay right where this fire is. state route 128 between guysers road and guyserville is closed. there is no update as to when this will reopen. the chp is asking anyone if you normally travel through this area, please take an alternate route. i'll havehe alternates for you coming up shortly. what you need to know also is the reason they have no idea as to when this will soap because they are telling us that all emergency crews are dedicated

now an accuweather alert. abc 7 morning. here's a look at live doppler 7. no clouds. in fact, we widened the view. huge dome of high pressure has built into the west coast. that's allowing for a red flag warning through 4:00 today. northeasterly winds, gusts 30 to 60 miles an hour. right now we're looking at relative humidity down to 12%. surface winds up to 28 miles an hour by the delta. above 1,000 feet where we're looking at the very gusty winds. with that off shore flow, look how mild we are. 72 in napa. 77 half moon bay. 65 in livermore. so that's anywhere from 10 to 30 degrees warmer than we were yesterday at this hour. in the south bay, look for 90 today in san jose. 87 in sunnyville. upper 80s in redwood city. 84 in pacifica. 85 and the sunset.
