>> this fire burning amid a pg&e power shutoff. this is aimed at preventing its equipment sparking more fires. >> jobina, i know you'll have the latest on the outages, when people will get power fully restored. >> pg&e is saying they have 93% of customers with power back on, but we're still waiting for people in the north bay right now. >> of course the weather conditions really not conducive so keeping fire at bay. >> no. we have about a 36-hour break where the winds and the weather are working in our favor before things change again. already the watches, warnings, advisories up for the saturday night event which promises to be stronger. we have that ridge of high pressure, that's moving off to the east. right now air quality is moderate in the south bay and north bay. you can see those greens. looking good now, that should be changing throughout the day as we see some of that smoke drift

southward into the entire bay area. that's why we have a spare the air alert. starting out with 50s, more in line for october. as we go through the next several hours, we'll be looking at temperatures coming up once again to warm and hazy readings. it's 26 degrees yesterday. >> we have a steady flow of traffic going over the bay bridge right now. this is a live look outside. you can see everybody just in a rush to get this friday on and going. also here, nice and smooth, pretty much empty in san jose. this is a live picture at 87 right now. also want to give you more drive times. we have albany to the maze, 4 minutes. fremont to san jose, 13 minutes. highway 101 to cupertino, 10 minutes right now. this morning around 7:00 we

are expecting cal fire to give us an update on the kincaid fire in sonoma county. >> the firefight forced thousands to leave their homes and it has destroyed others. here's whate know. the fire spread to 16,000 acres. fire crews are working to get a handle on the fire before the wind picks up this weekend. >> cal fire says 49 homes have been destroyed, more homes and other buildings have been threatened. the fire is 5% contained. we've also learned that a pg&e transmission line failed around the same time the fire started. mandatory evacuations are in effect east of highway 128 to geyserville. it is a race against time to get the fire under control before more strong winds come this weekend. >> asame m this morning. >> those 49 structures stroyed, many of them were

homes. look at this one on geysers road. it's completely gone. it's still very smoky here. firefighters are out watching for hot spots tonight. this fire burned 16,000 acres. officials have evacuation orders in place. they have police officers out watching for any issues. they say so far there's no reports of looting. >> we have over 50 deputies on duty right now. over night we'll have 26 deputies protecting neighborhoods and directing folks on how to evacuate. >> the fire came very close to river rock casino. the building was saved but the business is taking a hit. there's no word on when the evacuation orders will be lifted. reporting live from geysers road in sonoma county, amy

hollyfield, abc7 news. this fire burned up to vineyards and wineries last night in the alexander valerie. there are five major wineries in that area. eric thomas spoke to the owner of the vineyards yesterday. fred young says he has never seen the fire burn this close to the family vineyard near geyserville. he filled a water tanker and sprayed the vineyards down and put out spot fires as the fires popped up. he said the timing this year couldn't have been worse. they were planning on harvesting grapes last night. >> most of the time it's been further away. really didn't have much to worry about. a few embers, stuff like that. this wind was blowing directly towards us. >> the family has owned land there since the 1850s and lost several buildings to wildfires.

>> kent porter with the santa sa press democrat caught a woman trying to protect her property with a hose as the kincaid fire exploded yesterday. there are closures to tell you about because of the fire. the alexander valley union school district, geyserville unified making up four schools will not have class. also the cloverdale unified canceled classes today. the other breaking news this morning right here from the live desk, pg&e's officials are warning of another public safety shutoff as people are beginning to get power restored it could be the biggest one we've seen so far. i want to look at some of the areas that could be impacted here. you can see a lot of portions of the south bay, los gatos, moving up towards the peninsula, half moon bay, pacifica. you can also see the east bay in the bigger picture here.

if i zoom back in, we're looking at orinda as well, lafayette, moving this way we have danville. portions of it. western half of san ramon, castro valley as well. pg&e's ceo and president bill johnson says it would likely affect the peninsula, east bay and north bay as well, and moving on we have no word yet on how many people could be affected. winds are forecasted to gust between 40 and 60 miles per hour over most elevated terrain in northern california. he says the utility is at elevated potential for a new shutdown in 8 of the 9 zones pg&e serves. some areas may see peak gusts of 70 to 80 miles per hour. the possible outage could stretch into monday. again, we're looking at a very wide and large area here across the bay area. in san mateo county, the few hundred pg&e customers who had

power cut now have it back this morning. people who dodged the power shutoffs are tense knowing it could have easily been them. >> we thought we were going to lose our power up until 2:30 yesterday and then we received an email and text alert that we would not lose power. five miles down the road they lost power. doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to it. places that are one street away didn't lose it. some people lost it. >> alice's restaurant in woodside opened to help people charge up phones and laptops again. governor newsom has harsh words for pg&e. he was in southern california where some utilities will be undergoing their own power shutoffs. newsom promises to restructure the company once they emerge from bankruptcy. >> we will hold the ious and utilties accountable. we will do everything in our power to negate the need do this moving forward. >> the governor is demanding pg&e put more investment into

vegetation management and burying lines. the time is 4:37. meteorologist lisa argen is monitoring the latest weather conditions, especially with the winds set to pick up in the next few days. >> that's right. good morning to you. looking at live doppler 7. much cooler this morning. so the offshore winds have lightened up allowing for better humidity here. the winds are very light up into the north bay. that is aiding in the firefighters fight to get that fire under control. yes, as you mentioned, our high wind watch up already for late saturday night into monday morning for all of this area with winds gusting perhaps 45 to 75 miles per hour. that sets up with our fire weather watch, just the immediate bay shoreline not included in this. very low humidity. this event looks to last through sunday. right now 59 in oakland. 62 in hayward. fremont checking in at 69.

sunny, some smoky areas today. cooler weather for the weekend. dry, gusty winds return late saturday into sunday. numbers in the south bay, 88 today. a few degrees cooler. 87 in sunnyvale. mid 80s in san mateo. san francisco at 82. that's still a warm day. certainly cooler than it was yesterday. your 87 was shy of a record. looking at the east bay, mid 80s for you in oakland. 87 in san leandro. another warm one. not as warm. we'll have some of that smoke and haze in the air. upper 80s by the delta here. 88 in livermore. your accuweather seven-day forecast, cooler tomorrow. winds pick up late saturday into sunday. then after that some more typical fall-like weather with calm conditions. >> thank you. good morning, everyone. a live look now at the bay bridge toll plaza. all lanes are moving smoothly. but i do want to get to an issue that just popped up here, southbound 101 before devil's

slide. we have a rollover. all of the southbound lanes are blocked. you can see that red line is starting to build up. expect some delays in that area. also want to go now to a typical problem spot that actually is looking good right now. anyone commuting out of tracy through the altamont pass, speeds 30 miles per hour, 50 miles per hour, 29 miles per hour. as you know anything about this commute which many of us see in the morning it's usually not that smooth. it is great to see this friday

tracking breaking news right now. cal fire is fighting a brand-new fire on the san mateo county coast. it's called the cabrio fire. part of highway 1 was closed for hours after it started last night. the chp reopened it. no word on damage, but this new video that you're seeing now shows downed trees and what appears to be at least one burning vehicle, possibly an suv here. the fire destroyed nearly 100 acres so far. cal fire says it is 25% contained. >> thank you, jobina. now back to the kincaid fire in sonoma county. the big question this morning is how did it start. pg&e confirm there's was an issue with a transmission line in the geyserville area which was not de-energizeded. >> we should keep in mind other areas around sonoma county had their power shutoff when this started. pg&e filed an incident report with the cpuc.

>> we're continuing to investigate, filing the ei rsrrs doesn't tell us where the fire started. the fact that we're filing it, it doesn't tell us what caused the fire or where it started. >> abc 7 i-team reporter melanie woodrow has more on what happened when that fire started. >> vegetation fire reported as in the geysers. going to be on john kincaid road. >> this video shows just how quickly the fire exploded spreading over the county. fire dispatchers quickly identify power lines as a possible cause. >> possible power lines down in the area. all units acknowledge. >> reporter: look at another angle of the fire at about 9:20. there's something glowing in the distance, then it fades and then ere's fire. firefighters arrived at 9:27 to already find a large fire spread

over several hundred acres. >> vegetation fire. >> reporter: ts anition from google earth gives you an idea of the topography of the area before the fire began and its proximity to the guisers geothermal power plant. from sky 7 you can see the network of buildings, power lines and geothermal pipelines that run across the area. cal fire investigators are now on the scene looking for evidence in an area identified as kincaid road and the now aptly named burn mountain road. close attention is paid to those power lines. calpine who owns the geysers power plant provided a statement saying in part consistent with our fire prevention protocols, due to the wind conditions we had de-energizeded our local power line system before the fire started. we do not believe our facilities caused the fire. there are power lines operated by third parties across the geysers. melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> much of the bay area could feel the impact of the kincaid

fire. check out this animation from the national weather service. by today shifting winds will push smoke into our region. they say this is an experimental forecast but air quality is expected to be a huge terconcer today. you're never more than seven minutes away fyo cuweather forecast. we're watching the situation closely. >> lisa, the winds, how could that impact our air quality? >> that fire to the north had those strong gusty northeast winds. sine the winds shifted and lightened up, they are coming from a northwesterly component. that will push them into the bay area. push them south out of the north bay into parts of the bay and some areas will experience some of that haze and smoke. as a result, the air quality index has everyone up over 100. that brings the poor air quality across the bay here. so we will anticipate the cooler temperatures, the lighter winds today. if we had some stronger winds

and a different direction, that would mix it up. as a result we're starting out with light winds. temperatures in the low 50s. cooler than we were yesterday. anywhere from 4 to 26 degrees cooler. as that big dome of high pressure moves on out of here, it is drifting to the east. as it does, those winds shift, we are looking at relative humidity up from 38% in napa, 42% in san francisco, nice 57% in novato. looking at temperatures on the peninsula, 50s and 60s to start. another warm day with low to mid 80s. the afternoon sea breeze, and in the north bay more haze out there. some sun, temperatures in the mid and upper 80s. cooler by 2 and 4 degrees. the rest of us overall a warm day with upper 80s in san rafael. fr 88 in san jose. low 90s for morgan hill. >> good morning. looking at a live look right now

at the san mateo bridge. everything is smooth there. for the most part things are like that across the bridges around the bay area. i do want to head over to an issue that we're following in pacifica. this is southbound 101 before devil's slide. you can see how windy the road is there. someone rolled over. it's blocking all of the southbound lanes. speeds are down to 19 miles per hour at this moment. just want to check in back in the north bay for people following us yesterday with that sigalert and keeping up with the fire coverage, state route 128 between geyserville avenue to woodleaf is still closed. we're also following another issue that i'll get to in the next update, there is a crash involving two cars on southbound 880 at 238. that is causing a delay. i will have more for you when i have my next update. >> thanks. lawmakers are calling for an investigation into tik tok.

now. at least one lane is blocked. you can expect delays approaching there. you can already see it's down to 16 miles per hour in one spot. now i want to get to the better news, this is southbound 1 before devil's slide. we had a rollover there. everything is all clear. >> good to see that. firefighters have been dealing with smaller spot fires all over the bay area. >> in santa rosa fire broke out in anadel state park yesterday. nobody needed to evacuate. firefighters were able to just hold it to three acres. in marin county, this 58-acre fire burned between stinson and muir beaches yesterday. highway 101 is closed between muir road. no structures were threatened. in richmond the fire burned in the area of point isabel off of 580. fire crews battled it from the ground and from the air.
