but it's the winds for saturday that has everyone concerned. the ncre has grown to 22,000 acres. 21 homes destroyed. but today, fire and state officials are focused on tomorrow's wi-- tomorrow's wind >> some of the finest folks that exist in the business, doing heroic work and they are preparing for saturday night. >> the governor toured the area this morning, newsom said that california is well prepared to tackle the wildfires burning across the state. thanks in large part to more funding and new technologies such as better satellites and weather forecasting. fire officials say that extra crews and engines have been prepositioned on bridges and hills to go after spot fires. we need them to put out spot fires as embers that get cast from this fire and any fire that gets started. we need maximum suppression for the wind event coming up.

>> reporter: getting extra resources to crews on the ground will help them hold the line. but given how big the area is, and the massive winds expected on saturday, the aerial assault will be key. >> putting aircraft and resources on the new fires, quickly. keeping them small, keep this one contained and we will be all right. >> tara sharp grew in guiserville and helped to evacuate family and friends, she came back to donate food and money to the first responders who she said, are risking their living to save her community. >> the gratitude is incredible. it's a small thing to do that we can do to help to help the people saving our communities. >> the power will likely be cut to the area this weekend. they want people to plan accordingly. and they add, if you are asked to evacuate, to leave immediately. the longer it takes to evacuate, the more difficult for firefighters to do their job. abc7 news. thank you.

abc7 news anchor eric thomas in geiserville talking with victims of the kin indicate fire, eric. >> reporter: i was here earlier where there's homes that you look at, had been flattened by fire. right now, i'm in healdsburg, this center set up by the red cross, had 138 people check in last night. not everyone spent the night. but that's the number of people tey are geared up to serve here and volunteers keep bringing food and water and supplies in all the time. many of the folks, ord -- ordin would be out picking grapes, it's harvest season, but now they worry what the weekend will bring. there's an erie silence that moves in after the fire sweeps through, making the view even more heartbreaking. residents had to leave the homes in a hurry and those whose homes were spared to force to run for their lives. tina tavares recalls the power being out and feeling her way to the door to get a frantic warning. >> when i opened the door, all you see is a silhouette of the

person. and i'm going, he is going get out, fire! get out! >> reporter: she and her punishes packed up the two dogs and came to the shelter. >> when i got here, i -- i guess the minute i stepped my foot on the ground, it hit me, there's a fire, i'm going to lose everything. >> reporter: so far their home is okay. but everyone is worried about the winds picking up this weekend. that includes this man, it's grape harvesting time, what should be a happy day is filled with concern. >> we don't know what will happen to the grapes still on the vines. we don't know the affect of smoke and ash on the grapes. >> reporter: he has gone through it before in 2017, he is not just worried about the business, he leaves in healdsburg, but something changed since the 2017 fire. now, he has an eight month old son to worry about. >> i'm scared he can't breathe

this air. scared to sleep in my house tonight. i'm not sure if i'm going to. >> reporter: it's been incredibly smokey, not so much in healdsburg, but when you pass through and come up here, it's pretty bad. they are trying make progress if they can with air attack, a lot of folks here are very nervous of what happens when they go back home. they know as of right now, some of their homes are okay. but if the winds are indeed at hurricane force, they can be here for a while and they can be anxious. live in healdsburg. abc7 news. >> thank you, the town of geiserville, has been under mandatory evacuation for a few days. we drove there. there's a thick blanket of smoke. air quality is considered dangerous. visibility is poor. some residents were pleading with law enforcement trying to get back to their homes. my daughter was down the hill

when the fire started. she has no clothes, no medicine, noin and they will not let her up. the roadse saf and it's not spread. >> officers are under strict orders to not let people in. but they are allowed to let some vineyard workers back in. the agricultural commissioner granted permission for workers who need to tend to the grapes and resident-s will have to wait. >> and a reminder, here are the areas under mandatory evacuation order because of the kincaid fire. areas east, stretching passed 128, in to black mountain and mercuryville. river rock casino is under a mandatory evacuation. now, there's three open evacuation centers, one at the sonoma county fairgrounds and that is for you and your large animals. the second across the street, at the veteran building, where you

can take smell pets and animals. and the third in healdsburg. we will have an update at 6: 6:30 -- 6:30 tonight and we will bring you the latest. >> let's get a look at the condition -- conditions that are expected this weekend. an the winds could be ferocious. >> they could have gusts reaching hurricane level. we have advisories of high fire concern. let's start with the heat advisory. that will be in affect until 7:00 tonight for jus abo of the areas around the bay shoreline, down in to the south bay and along the coast as well from san francisco southward, we have a high wind warning for these areas in yellow. from tomorrow night until monday morning. and those areas of gusts could range from 35-55 miles per hour. and we have a high wind warning in affect for areas to the north and east from parts of medocino county to solano county, downed trees and power lines are

possible of course with power outa outages. we have a high red flag warning for all of the bay area from saturday night to monday morning and you can see here, relative humidity is dangerously low still. in the teens in most locations. so, we have got the low humidity, the dry conditions and the strong gusty wind coming our way, we just have to be watchful and be cautious and i will have more deals later. larry? >> all right, spencer, see you in a few minutes. we are 24 hours away from what might be the start of pg&e's largest power shutoff due to the high fire danger and here's what they are telling us right now. about 850,000 customers across california could lose electrically this weekend. and almost half of the customers are in the bay area. and this weekend's shutoff could impact more customers than the outage we saw a couple of weeks ago. eight of the bay area's nine counties are in the zone. we see how to find out if will be affected? >> well, larry, on the pg&e

website, you can find tools that will help you get information in the next power shutoff. first tool, the outage map. you can see the vast majority of bay area is highlighted in orange. these are all areas that could see a shutoff and you can zoom in here to your particular city and street. i prezoomed in to san matteo, you can see the mills hospital, that is supposed to be in the shutoff zone, right? shear where the second tool is coming in. -- third tool you will use once you are shut off. and you want to know when your power will be back on. you see these purple dots. well, they represent the shutoff outages if you click on one, it will tell you when you can expect to get your power back in

this case, october 26th 10:00 p.m., that would be tonight at 10:00. and pg&e has been much criticized during the communication in the last two power shutoffs. they said they moved features of the website to the cloud, to avoid crashing. >> abc7 news reporter, leslie brinkley has been in contra costa county. and people are preparing for the potential power shutoff there. >> reporter: this is weeks after they went through the ordeal already. everyone here is complaining here we go again. they suffered through an outage a couple of weeks ago like you said and now, they are braced for another outage, pg&e are indicating it's 10:00 p.m. saturday night. i just had a man stop by and show me his cell phone, he got a text alert from lafayette police saying the power outage will start at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.

a lot of uncertainty, businesses in the area, are upset. pg&e is indicating that the power may be out all day sunday, most of the day monday, that outage.t longer than the last affecting more people than last time and complicating it will be poor air quality. >> we got lucky last time. but not so much this time. >> reporter: this -- athletic store is not happy about the prospect of no electricity on sunday and monday. they said, they will still try to stay open by flashlight, swiping credit cards on cell phones. not possible for restaurants. what if you have a wedding, open house, church services, new dilemas. >> it could go through monday afternoon. this outage affects a wider area of contra costa than last time. 120,000 residents. with poor air quality, we don't advise that people open their windows with the particulate

work in southern california, where multiple wildfires are threatening communities there. >> an estimated 50,000 people are under evacuation orders because of a destructive wild fire that is burning north of los angeles. >> the tick fire is one of six blazes and destroyed six homes in canyon country since breaking out yesterday afternoon. officials do expect that number to grow. a total of 12,000 structures are threatened. fire exploded overnight, push bid hot, dry santa ana winds howling up to 50 miles an hour. the officials say do not ignore evacuation orders. >> please, please, please listen, this is the largest evacuation that we have had in santa clarita, it's being done to protect life, property, and allow our firefighters and first responders to get up there and fight the fires. >> this tick fire has burned some 4300 acres. it's only 5% contained as well. deaths or injuries have been reported so far.

the cause still unknown, but southern california edison cut off power to the area five hours before the fire broke out. >> back at home. smoke from the kincade fire has blown in the area. you see, hazy skies all across the region. air quality is getting worse. >> abc7 news spoke with us from bay area air quality management, about the proper way to wear the masks. >> the problem with the maskts is, they have -- with the masks is, they have to be properly fitted. there's an hour long process thatloyees have to go through to see if it's the right mask for them. they need to have no facial hair, and the right structure. they are not suitable for children. and the other thing it is, they are very, very uncomfortable. if you are wearing them properly, they are tight against your face and nose and mouth and you almost get a suffocating feeling they are so tight. that's how they are on correctly. they are irritating for people

and they take them off and put them back on. and when that happens, the inside of the mask fills up with particulate and you put it back on close to your nose and mouth and you are breathing it and that is unhealthy. so, what these end up being is something that fills landfills, spending money filling landfills rather than doing anything to protect ones self. we are advising people that they stay in doors. if they can get to a place that has clean filtered air that is best. but staying in doors is the best measure and keeping energy low. >> i understand, the last time you spoke, it gives people the false sense of security thinking it's protecting them while they are outside. >> that's exactly right. people take them on and off, and they think they are protecting their breathing. it's something that can trigger an asthma attack or copd event, it's not going to kill you immediately. heat will. and so, people need to stay cool during the heat that we are having this weekend. but

redwood city and oakland and half moon bay. here is another view. we have temperatures of 91 in santa rosa, and fairfield and livermore, and 93 in petaluma. now, we go to the heat advise have -- we go to the heat advisory, all the way south of san francisco. it's in affect until 7:00 this evening. you can see why, it's so warm to hot in some of the areas and another view of the haze from the south beach camera. as we look toward the bay bridge. these are forecast features. we have hazy, smokey tomorrow. dry gusty winds return, powerful winds. late tomorrow night in to sunday and high fire danger will be with us in to monday morning. overnight, looking nor mainly clear skies. high clouds and haze and overnight lows in the mid to upper 50s and tomorrow's highs

will range from low 70s to upper 70s to about 80 around the bay shoreline. again, under hazy sunshine and inland areas will warm up to the low and mid 80s tomorrow. not quite so warm as today was. let's look at the red flag warning. that will cover all of the bay area. it's in affect until 7:00 tonight. this part of it. but, it's going to be extended from tomorrow evening in to monday. because of high fire danger around the entire region and we have a high wind warning that will be in affect from saturday night to monday morning. for these northern and northeastern reaches of the bay area. and a wind advisory in affect for all of the remainder of the bay area with the gusts expected in the higher elevations to range from 60-80 miles an hour. here is the wind gust animation. going in late tomorrow night in to sunday morning. theind w will intensify and it will be more widespread as we

getater in the day on sunday and will remain gusty, conditions will, through the day sunday and in to monday morning before they start to normalize a bit. here is the seven-day forecast, we have a mild day tomorrow, and cooler than today, but cool or sunday. bu with the dry, gusty wind, even with the temperatures dropping a bit, the fire danger will increase. fire danger will subside a bit on monday as the wind gets calmer and for the remainder of next week, sunny days and mild, calm conditions. finally. >> we need. that thank you, spencer. >> community members have been coming together across the bay area, amid the recent fires and the fire weather. >> that meant unlikely passengers went for a ride with the team members of slide ranch. it's a farm that teaches kids about animals and the environment. >> staff used the personal cars to evacuate sheep, ducks, goats and chickens away from the fire

that broke out near highway 101, you see them in the cars. the ranch reached out over social media trying to find out if there's a car wash that was willing to help clean the cars which, as you might expect are pretty smelly. >> mike and jeff's car wash said they can clean the cars exteriors but the interiors are in pretty bad shape and still need cleaning. the cost of that is estimated to be about $1500 for all the cars. if you can help that ranch pay for that. we have a link on the website, abc7 news.com. so you know, the fire is about 58 acres and 50% contained. >> so, weird to see sheep and goats in the back of a regular car. >> they have to do what they have to do. >> that's what you have to do. >> coming up on abc7 news at 4:00. looking ahead to the pg&e power shutoffs. >> i have a step by step guide to what you need to do now, before they turn the power out

with the threat of more power outages coming tomorrow, there's things you can do to prepare. we are here with the black-out preparation tips. >> let's start with the essentials. with the power out, stores may not be able to make debit or credit transactions. cash will still be taken. so, stock up on some bills now by making withdrawals from your atm machines at your bank. now, if you have to evacuate, you will need gasoline, swhorks getting cash, stop by the gas station as well. fill up your tank. and put together a go-bag. that includes your important documents. while you should have already done this, in case of an earthquake, the power outages and fires are another reason to get your documents all together, in a single place. now, consider anything that you will need to prove your identity or grant access to accounts and services, think in terms of birth certificates, and

financial documents and that sort of thing. and along with that go bag. put your medications, you should have a supply of your essential meds that will last you at least seven days. and you need to think about putting some bags of water in your freezer and now, by filling several gallon bags or jugs of water and putting them in the freezer, you make your freezer more efficient. now, if the power goes out, and the added ice will keep the freezer cold for 48 hours. if you don't open the door. a half stocked freezer will last 24 hours. and plus, you can also use the bags to keep the fridge cooler too. now, by the way, when the ice melts you will have emergency water. make sure to know how to open the garage door without electricity. we have lost a lot of lives because people didn't know this. now, most garage doors can be opened by pulling on the red handle that is on the garage door unit. normal it's hanging in the middle of the garage. this will disconnect the door

discussions were had to see if the equipment could have caused the fire. but the cause has not been determined and the investigation is not complete. sky 7 over the area where the kincade fire began. pg&e said they became of aware of a trns mission level outage around 9:20 at night. there's something glowing in the distance, and then fade and then fire. the equipment was not deenergized, because it did not meet safety thresholds. there was a broken jumper on the tower. a wire that jumps the conductor over the insulater, but it's not clear if the equipment causesed the fire. governor newsom cited the greed and lack of focus. >> they simply did not do their job. >> reporter: the governor promising that pg&e will be taken to task. >> we will get out of this mess.

while the animals, the ones outdoors are okay without power for a couple of days, there's bugs, endangered frogs, credi r -- critters that need to be indoors. the feeling with the staff is that okay, we can deal with, you know, a one-time thing. this time around, they are not prepared to make it the new normal. i spoke to the cfo at the oakland zoo and this is what he to say. >> our number one concern is always our animal safety and animal well-being. here we are again, planning for taking care of our animals. but, now, this weekend, we have one of the busiest weekends of the year. it's obviously halloween coming up. boo at the zoo for two full days we are here at the threat of closure again. we are potentially turning away families and kids coming to have a great time at the zoo. trick or treating. so, again, animals first, but now on top of that, we are potentially turning people away.

today at the los angeles man who was the oldest person to receive a full face transplant. here he is four months after undergoing the procedure. it took a team of 45 people, more than 16 hours to complete the surgery. which was also the first full face transplant ever performed on an african-american. chelsea suffered burns over 60% of his body and face after his car was struck by a drunk driver in 2013. he was the 9th face transplant performed at bringham and the 15th nationwide. >> authorities are calling the death of a hunter in arkansas one of the strangest things they have ever seen or heard of. a 66-year-old man was hunting by himself. he shot a deer, then went to check if the deer was dead. it was not. the buck got up and attacked the man, puncturing him several times with the antlers and the man ended up dying at the hospital. officials say it's unclear if
