the fire has burned over 23,000 acres. fire officials are bracing for the wind. >> new round of power shut offs. businesses and residences tired of it. >> powerful wind and power shut offs, dry gusty conditions are expected to put parts of the mountains in the dark. >> we have two breaking stories we're following to want. there's the kincade fire. which is more than doubled in size in 24 hours. >> firefighters are battling the weather. which has led to pg&e putting millions of residents on notice. this time tomorrow night you could be without electricity.

>> we are preparing for what's likely going to be a widespread safety shut off. >> this will be the strongest event of the year. and if models are right. stronger than the october 8 and 9, 2017 fire event. >> so we're lez than 24 hours from the pg&e possible power shut off. effecting 850,000 customers across 36 counties. >> from the north bay. the shut off would begin tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. for the rest of the bay area 7:00. we begin with hayward. she found lots of customers who could have power turned off. >> we're here at fire station. what people in the affected communities here can expect this weekend are more firefighters, more police officers. more emergency dispatch making sure everything stays calm this

headache for the zoo. especially in weekend. because of boo at the zoo. >> potentially we're turning away families kp kids. coming to have a great time at the zoo. trick or treating. >> they're hoping not to turn customers away. instead give them a place to go. >> we would condense the menu and have items that we can offer from the oven. and lots of candle light. >> if you're wondering about the laetest on the boo at the zoo. i got a text. he tells me they will be open saturday. because they don't expect the shut off to happen until 5:00 p.m. that day. however that leaves sunday to be determined. so the best thing to do if you are planning fo go to that event is keep an eye on the twitter account. for the latest information. >> thank you. some people will went through a shut off a couple weeks ago. for others this is the first time.

48,000 customers are expected to that wld include many businesses. that may have to close and a haunted film festival. that maybe interrupted. >> think in america, we would be advanced enough that we wouldn't have to shut off power every time there's wind in the summer. and it sound like this is the pattern that pg&e is trying to establish. >> pg&e said tonight it will provide back up generators to bart running and the tunnels open and both need lek tris it isder to operate. >> they said the winds could top what we saw in october 2017. when the north bay was devastated by fire. >> meteorologist joining us now with a closer look at the red flag warning. >> we're expecting dangerous and possibly damaging winds so red flag warning begins tomorrow night for the bay area. for the rest of the region sunday. it goes until monday morning. bind gusts will be from 60 to 80

it is scorched nearly 24 how acres. more than double from last night. the fire still only 5% contained. crews race against mother nature. winds expected to pick up tomorrow night. 21 homes have been destroyed. several communities have been warned. be ready to evacuate and you should be prepared to leave. a family has already been forced out because of flames. live from the fairgrounds. >> yes. that fire continues to race. fire engines are ready to come out at 5:00 a.m. you were mentioning it's her dwreernld daughter. she was at school. she explained she saw the flames inches up to the home and knew it was time to go. >> ferocious and unexpected the flames down into geyser ville.

threatening people, homes and years of memories. >> it's like really hitting me. because the fire is now like blazing down the mountain. there's no way that our house is still there. it's impossible. >> they are part of nearly 2,000 people ordered to evacu ght years ago their home was burned by another wild fire. >> i'm just scared. because this has happened before. and i el like all of our lives are in danger. >> on her mind her horse. that was rescued this morning. a tiny familyember she was surprised to hear her mom was able to take. >> we got the hamster. >> yeah. my hamster i was just worried sick. i thought he was going to die in the fire. >> cal fire confirmed the 49 structures have been destroyed including 21 homes and 28 out buildings. extreme fire behavior expected

with gusty wind, picking up saturday night into sunday. >> how does cal fire prepare for this. >> obvioly ta look at fires regionally and preparation by region. we have staffing patterns and additional staffingstatewide. it's the old adage of all hands on deck. for an event of this size. >> 1,300 firefighters from across the state are battling flames from the air and ground. we ask cal fire division chief cox to show us the most problematic area. the terrain is steep. >> we have crews of 15 people cutting linin wit their hands and chain saws and tools. >> that bat m continues. a total of 50 officers to prevent looting. no death or injury reported at this time. >> thank you. cal the office of emergency services is ramping up for potentialfires. they are prepositioning crews.

leave it up to pg&e and the utilities public safety shut off. many here are skeptical. >> one thing it's a big storm. you expect it. it's so nice out, the power goes off. you're like what's up with that. >> preparation is under way for a weekend without power. >> busy would be an under statement for the only gas station in the town. >> two to 250 gas ns.ca and 230 gallon of propane. >> shop manager says last the location ran out of gas. this time the tank is full and more gas is scheduled to arrive at 6:00 a.m. there's a need to adapt is this is the new norm. >> it's non-stop. i haven't been able to sit down for six hours. >> dry conditions and winds combined with high fire risk will leave 45,000 customers in the dark. impacted areas include spots that went without power in the

last round of shut offs. >> our power was out 22 hours. >> issues encountered last time forced him to prepare. >> we haven't fully stocked up with as much as we would like. but we're probably better off than some. >> pg&e expects to turn off power to parts of the bay area including south bay and santa cruz by 7:00 p.m. saturday. the outages could last 48 >> greed and mismanagement have got us where we are today. with the power shut offs. >> they simply did not do their job. >> governor newsom says pg&e will be held accountable for the

interruptions and costs associated. and restructured to a completely different entity when it gets out of bankruptcy june 30 next year. it fell 30% to $5 share. the previous record low was $6. $6.36 in mid-january. about two weeks after it filed for bankruptcy. planned power outages are not just limited to pg&e. southern california ed son has been cutting wild fires to homes. it turned off power to nearly 15,000 customers. >> if you notice the smell of smoke in the air. or a haze. that's from the kincade fire. the smoke drifted to the south. it was picked up by our net work of cameras. sky 7 was over the fire this evening. you can see the enormous plume it's putting up. creating quite a backdrop as the smoke created an orange glow. we got a spectacular sunset.

this evening. because of the smoke filling the air. this was taken from our camera which was pointed towards the golden gate bridge. >> it's almost beautiful. eerie at the same time. we know what's causing it. >> so dangerous. for so many people. meteorologist with a look ahead at what could be a troubling weekend. >> that's why i'm really hoping that the crews can get control or of this kincade fire. the conditions have been favorable in terms of wind. it's gusting to 17 miles per hour. humidity has come up 20%. and the temperatures 73 degrees. so before the strong wind arrive this weelkd hopefully they can have the fire surrounded. >> the smoky skies over the mountain. it was so thick. this afternoon and evening a hard to not see it in the air and smoke filled the sky. wich is why the air district has issued another spare the air
