>> full containment is expected next thursday. so november 7th. good morning on this wednesday, october 30th. >> we have live team coverage. we're starting with mike nicco who has been tracking the l'skts with those winds. what we'reeeg is a bay. 50 in parts of the east bay. right now pegging around 25 to 40. so the tapering is starting, which means the good news is unfolding. >> right now at the lower elevations, it was probably quieter than it was over the weekend. right now 23 gusting at fairfield. still 41 with that down sloping wind at half moon bay. it's nearly 20 degrees warmer than it was this time yesterday. it is the coast, the santa cruz mountains, the dab miablo rangee east bay still under normal fire conditions until 4:00 this afternoon. the north bay was under a wind

advisory. that expired. winds not reaching that level, but still at critical fire. watch our wind forecast from now up until noon, gusting from 15, 20, maybe 25 in the hills. look what happens by 4:00. single digits in the lower elevations, teens and 20s in the hills. that's below critical fire conditions. we get to that, we can all take a deep breath. we have nice weather coming up for several days, maybe a couple of weeks in the accuweather seven-day forecast. >> thanks. >> right now is a krirt ccritic. >> firefighters are hoping to get through red flag conditions and into calmer weather so they can put this fire out. liz kreutz joins us from sonoma county fairgrounds in santa rosa. liz? >> good morning. right now we are waiting to get an update from cal fire. we hope to get that update within the next hour, 7:00 a.m.

is when firefighters here at base camp get their update. we should have updated numbers on the containment and how much this fire may have grown overnight. until then we have that good news, that is that since the winds have subsided, a cal fire spokesperson tells me we have not seen new significant spot fires overnight that would have gone into residential communities. no new evacuations. there was a concern the winds would push the fire towards santa rosa. the kincade fire still continues to burn. this video that we have shows transformation learning center outside of windsor burning yesterday evening. it was burned by one of those hot spots. so businesses and homes are not out of the woods yet. back out here at the sonoma county base camp, many firefighters are just waking up to begin their shift on that cold morning.

a bright spot is this pop-up pete's truck offering first responders complimentary coffee. it's a simple gesture that firefighters says goes a lodge way. officials do believe if they can get through the next wind event they're hopeful to get a handle on the fire and increase that containment. liz kreutz, abc7 news. >> shout out to pete's and the other small businesses and local chefs feeding our firefighters and evacuees. appreciate that. there's concern this morning that the strong winds could push the kincade fire further into the north into lake county. >> that's where amy hollyfield is live this morning. amy? >> here is a look at the kincade fire. we are in middletown looking at it. we're in lake county. it looks big, but it looks like

it's holding steady. we're not watching it roar in many directions like what we saw on that first day of the fire when the wind was really howling. we are not experiencing wind down here in the town. the town feels calm. there's no smoke down here. it's just very cold. the sheriff here indicated yesterday that they had a sense that the fire might leave lake county alone. >> we're not getting much more spread. we're getting good feedback from cal fire on whether that fire will pose a threat or not. right now it looks like it's not. >> there was a concern that this was going to move into lake county. so they got aggressive. and it looks like their efforts paid off. this threat wasn't the only thing residents have had to deal with. they have not had power. many of them have not had it

since saturday. school has been canceled. it's very cold. the sheriff declared a state of emergency here. they're hoping that pg&e will give them the all clear from this wind event sometime this morning. reporting live in middletown, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. pg&e says because of good weather conditions it will not cut the power to customers in alameda, contra costa, santa cla clara, san mateo counties. thousands are still in the dark after the public safety power shutoff. i want to get to their website so you can see the area still impacted. much of the north bay. most of the outages are specifically in sonoma, napa and solano counties. about 5,000 customers in marin county are without power right now. pg&e restored power to all other bay area counties except for contra costa county, which is at

97% restoration. pg&e says as of last night inspector found 55 instances of damage to equipment statewide. the company does not expect another wind event to cause a shutdown in the next week. >> thank you. even though pg&e canceled planned outages, parts of marin county are still in the dark. >> for some people it's day five without electricity. lauren martinez is live in mill valley with an update right now. >> it is good news for residents in alameda, clara and san mateo counties, but here in mill valley in marin county some areas are still in the dark. we were in novato yesterday where a hardware store was still in the dark. customers were stocking up on

and a live look outside. check this out. our tam cam has been shaking this morning from the wins. mike is tracking all the heavy wind gusts. >> checking out healdsburg hills. that's where our reporting station is at 2,480. while the winds are impressive and theytious up to 43 miles per hour, the reason why we're in the red flag warning is the dew point has gotten colder. it was minus 6, now it's minus 8. that means the temperature would have to drop down to 8 degrees below zero for the air to become saturated. that's how dry it is. we hardly if ever see dew points that low in the middle of winter. that's got to be a record. i'll have to check on that. look how quickly those winds subside as we head throughout the day. we're back below 20 miles per hour in some of the lower elevations around the kincade fire. just single digits after that. we'll talk about san jose

most of us in the 40s, a few 50s. the winds are keeping us all over the place. in san jose, 49 with a clear sky. day planner for today. temperatures will be around the 40s at 7:00. 61 to 65 with breezes tapering at noon. 4:00 it's all over. temperatures around 68 to 70. grab a coat if you're heading out. you may smell a little bit of smoke, 58 to 63. the accuweather seven-day forecast coming up. here is jobina northbound 101 at woodside. please be aware that speeds will be slow down to 4 miles per hour in some spots. some lanes have reopened there.. re gng delayed down there this morning.

welcome back. new video from the chp shows how smoky conditions are in sonoma county. this is a chp helicopter flying over highway 101 yesterday. the smoke is causing low visibility and turning the skyg today is another spare the air day. the bay area air quality management district says the smoke from the kincade fire is leaving enough pollution in the air to make it unhealthy. this is the third straight spare the air day and the sixth in the past seven days. evacuation orders in parts of sonoma county have been downgraded to evacuation warnings. last night some people went home in the western part of the country. the sheriff's office says people who are going home are doing so at their own risk because the kincade fire is still a threat. people who have been able to walk into their house and sleep in their own beds are relieved. >> it is open. i was evacuated for a couple days. then they lifted it. >> it was hard.

a lot of anxiety. unknowns. we're happy to be home with our fire. family. i know you have been tracking those winds. where do we stand now? are we all right? do we need to wait longer? >> we're all right as far as the winds causing more damage like falling trees or limbs. we're still fast enough that the fire conditions are critical. that will continue through 4:00. that hasn't changed. but the wind advisory, we went to sleep knowing about it, it's expired. let's look and show you and compare what happened to last weekend to what happened now. we talked about this would not be a repeat. 93 miles per hour in healdsburg. mount diablo, 61, 51.

look at that. 41 at half moon bay one of the fastest wind gusts this morning. those are strong by any standard except compared to the weekend. let's show you what's going on now down in southern california. they could have the most extreme sant0 miles per hour. this windstorm will get stronger as it heads towards them. here's a beautiful look from sutro tower. we have air quality and fire danger issues for one last day. it will be calmer but still dry through the extended. those dry calm nights could leez to freezing temperatures where people still don't have power. 68 to 69. 70 in oakland, vallejo, concord, and livermore. morgan hill, 74 degrees. frost advisory, for those of us who have power, pets and plants is our biggest thing. pipes maybe. for those that have been evacuated or don't have power,

we need to protect them from the cold temperatures the next couple of nights. low to mid 30s, the rest us are in the upper 30s to upper 40s. a great halloween forecast coming at you. details on that next. look at those 60s and 70s and sunshine through tuesday. >> all right. we are still following this sigalert in redwood city. we have a rollover there blocking the right lane at this point. northbound 101 at wood side, expect delays in the area. speeds are down to 4 miles per hour. very slow there. it's starting to clear but delays will be bad. the golden gate bridge, much better news. things are looking smooth there. also want to check in on our commuter alert. smart train is running free service on a limited schedule starting today through next wednesday. service will operate from the santa rosa downtown station to

downtown san rafael, stopping at all stations in between. power outages and closed rail crossings mean the sonoma county airport and santa rosa north stations will remain thankyou. new video shows how close the kincade fire burned near a house in windsor. the sonoma county sheriff's office posted this video on twitter yesterday showing a charred hillside on vine crest circle. it appears one home was spared, but that's not the case for dozens of other buildings. the kincade fire burned at least 86 homes. the salvation army is helping to feed fire evac he wou evacuees. volunteers are feeding people in napa, san rafael and petaluma. the salvation army served more than 5,000 meals since the fires

will be out trick or treating. no fantastic weather. no winds to worry about. hopefully most of us will have our power restored. look at these temperatures, 60s at the coast. once that sun sets the dry air will cool quickly. 58 to 64, all treats at 7:00, no creepy clouds, no bone-chilling temperatures by the time we end halloween, temperature of 52 at the coast, 53 inland. 58 around the bay. a nice way to end this busy month. >> all right. from the live desk, forecasters like mike nicco this morning are warning of extreme santa ana winds down in southern california. the winds could make it critical for this day ahead for firefighters battling the getty fire. here's some of the neighborhoods impacted. here is the map. zoom out a little bit so you can view the area. we're looking at the malibu area as well as brentwood.

if we pull over to this tab, we have some video for you so you can see the impact of these flames. thousands of homes are being threatened now. the fire is only 15% contained. today's extreme red flag warning meaning the area could see wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour. according to the "l.a. times," investigators say video footage shows a branch breaking off a eucalyptus tree, hitting a power line and starting the fire whic. we'll be keeping you posted on that. >> thanks. look at this video, it will show you the intense firefight in sonoma county. this is a boeing 747 dropping thousands of gallons of fire retardant on the kincade fire in geyserville. cal fire air operations posted this video. the agency says the plane can carry more than 18,000 gallons

of fire retardant. the kincade fire has burned to the edge of the tubbs fire. >> overlaid the outlines of both of them. the kincade fire is in red. the 2017 wildfires are outlined in black. you can see how much larger the kincade fire is to the tubbs fire and other fires. people looking for a place to stay out of the smoke, you can turn to museums in san francisco. sf moma says the public can visit the permanent collection o the second floor for free through friday. the california academy of sigh yens is offering free admissions to fire a proof of address. that offer is also good until friday. our breaking news coverage continues as we view how high winds are affecting the fires. >> i'm amy hollyfield from middletown where we are watching the kincade fire up on the hills as it threatens lake county. the latest coming up. and we're staying on top of the power outages across the bay area. the lights finally coming back

bigger disaster. >> we would rather err on the safe side. >> we have live team coverage of the fire and the power outages that are still leaving some people in the dark this morning. good morning. it is wednesday, october 30th. >> so we'll talk to mike right now about the winds. the good news is as the day goes on we do have some better information for folks. >> absolutely. i keep talking about 4:00, if you want to set an alarm for 4:00 so you can go it's finally over, do that. when you went to bed last night, we had a wind advisory for the north bay. that was canceled. the winds are not meeting that criteria but still meeting the criteria for critical fire conditions. along with -- we're talking about dew points that are 9 degrees below zero. humidity levels down to 5%, 4%. that's why we have the red flag warning out there. let's look at the wind gusts.

the fastest winds are over, we're gusting 30, 40 miles per hour. that's why we're going to continue to have that high fire danger. the lower elevations, 23 in fairfield. still 40 at half moon bay. the winds hae been gusting between 30 and 40 for the two or three hours. what a noisy morning in half moon bay. here's jobina with a look at the commute. >> a sigalert that we'll get to in a moment. starting with mass transit. the ferries are on modified service as well as the golden gate transit buses on a modified schedule because of the kincade fire and related mandatory evacuations. hopping over to that sigalert in redwood city, a rollover blocking the right lane northbound 101 at woodside. a downbout5 miles per hour as you get closer to the crash. expect delays there.

also quickly moving over to san jose, we have ahas blocking the left lane and center divide. this is northbound 880 past the southbound 101 connector. now to the latest on the kincade fire burning in sonoma county. >> it's grown to more than 76,000 acres, it's 15% contained. more than 80,000 homes are threatened. 189 structures have been destroyed including 86 homes. about 190,000 residents have been evacuated. full containment is expected next thursday, november 7th. in the coming hours that could make or break the efforts for firefighters. iger need to a attacs liz kreutz joins us live from the sonoma county fairgrounds. good morning. we all woke up this morning hoping that what they thought could have happened, that this

fire would push towards santa rosa wouldn't happen, and we can tell you this morning that as of now it's not. that's some good news. we are waiting to get an update from cal fire here at base camp. we expect that in the next half hour. we'll get updated numbers on containment and if the fire did grow in size overnight. the fire does continue to burn in the northeast portions of sonoma county. that is where there are some ho learning center was burning yesterday. that business was not spared. it was ignited by one of those hot spots. even though winds have died down slightly, it doesn't mean business and homes are out of the woods yet. firefighters were preparing for a big wind event overnight. cal fire told me these winds did back down considerably especially along the 101 corridor. >> we're in a battle rhythm is the best way to put it. the days, the shifts are structured now. we have resources that are

assigned to areas shift over shift. i think firefighters are ready to turn the corner after this wind event and really put some closure and some stability back into the community. >> they do believe after this wind event they will get a handle on this fire and increase that containment with full containment expected for november 7th. that is the day before the anniversary of the camp fire. liz kreutz, abc7 news. right behind you, it looks like the most popular place to b be at base camp. tell us what's happening there. >> take a look at this. this is amazing. we have to give a shout-out to peete's coffee.e b all morning. many of the firefighters just waking up, starting their shift. i know this means so much to these firefighters. there's 5,000 of them here from

across the state. one of the firefighters called one of the volunteers his hero because there's nothing like waking up to a warm cup of coffee. we want to thank all of our first responders here. you can see them all here getting that warm cup of coffee. peete's coffee told me they did this last year during the 2017 wildfires and they came back out here today and they plan to be here in the coming days as well. a bright spot for all of these firefighters working so hard to keep us safe. >> we're sorry this has to happen over and over again to the same people but we're getting better in the way we respond. priath. the'sonrn that the strong winds gusting could push the kincade fire into lake county. >> that's where amy hollyfield is live this morning. >> good morning. we are watching it. it's up on the hillside above us. it's holding steady. we're not seeing it progress. there's no wind down here in

middletown. that's where we are. we're looking up at it. it's very calm here in town. it looks like the 4,900 firefighters working on this fire won this fight. they were worried that winds would push this fire down into lake county. the residents here have been dealing with this threat and the power outage has been stressful. the sheriff says people will get a chance to express their concerns. >> we are in the early stages of setting up community meetings with cal fire to talk about the kincade fire. so we don't have an exact time yet, but within the next day or two, we should be looking to have a community meeting in middletown. >> he has declared a state of emergency as people here deal with no power, school has been canceled. now watching this fire above their town as it threatens to push this way. but the wind is not as strong

overnight as was predicted. the national weather service canceling that wind advisory. they're hoping that all clear will come soon from pg&e because it looks very calm here in middletown. reporting live from middletown, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. in santa rosa, some evacuees are spending their fifth night living inside rvs at the sonoma county fairgrounds. 17-year-old paloma gave us a tour of her family's rv where there are nine people living under one roof. some of them are even sick. they have fevers and severe coughs. >> myre before he goes to work. my younger brother, my dad and the baby. my cat and i. here is where the 6-month-old sleeps with my mom right now. both of my grandmas sleep on this couch that pulls out to a bed. >> that's tough. >> a lot of evacuees got the

orders on friday and so they've been trying to make the best of it. a few people told abc7 news that their homes are okay but they're following the advice of officials to stay out of neighborhoods until the fire danger eases. >> that's a hard situation. you heard her say her family members are going to work during all of this as well. all right. in the south bay, though cities apart and miles from the devastation, people in san jose are pitching in for victims of the kincade fire. >> watching the devastation from a distance, san jose resident jeremy taylor knew sulieso ta to noma ing, so he og county. donations are being kept in storage and then will be taken to redwood empire food bank of santa rosa. >> some of us just finished paradise, some of those volunteers are now victims because of the sonoma county

bay. right now head outside and breathe deeply. it's the cleanest the air has been in a while. let's talk about the fire danger index. we want to get rid of the yellow, the orange and the red. we have in most areas but the north bay at 7:00. we're still dealing with very high fire danger through 10:00 this morning. heading through lunch hour to 1:00, we can see the yellows shrink out there. when do they possibly finally lave us, at 4:00? no, a little bit near cloverdale and mendocino counties, by 6:00 it's gone. still 25 to 33-mile-per-hour winds at grizzly peak. that's still fast and dangerous. when you factor in the dew point, it's zero grily peak. the air is about 15, maybe 10% relative humidity. the breezes tapering at noon. 70 at 4:00.

that's when it's over. by 7:00, we're 58 to 63. grab a coat with that dry air. it will get rather chilly rather quick. some people without power could have freezing cold hi to jobina. it was very quiet yesterday. a few more incidents today? >> yes. but i have good news. the sigalert has cleared in redwood city. you can expect to see residual delays here, but speeds are picking up. miles per hour and per hour near woodside, but those speeds are picking up. the opposite effect here. northbound 880 past the southbound 101 connector, a car spun out, it's slow and getting slower. best of luck if you're headed that way. very quickly, i just want to keep making sure that people are aware of the impact of the kincade fire and what it's

conditions in the area right now. this is the second significant firefight in the l.a. area. the getty fire broke out on monday and forced thousands from their homes. we will continue to monitor this situation. awful to see that happening now. we know as mike has been mentioning all morning long, those santa ana winds expected to be extreme today. the firefight will be tough for our first responders down there this morning. wow. also tracking the latest on the power outages in the bay area. pg&e says now that the winds have calmed down, it will not cut the power to alameda, contra costa, santa clara, san mateo and santa cruz counties. pg&e does not expect another power shutoff in the next week. there is a calendar that shows the days pg&e has cut the power in yellow. this shows the kincade fire one

but all of that aside marin county has been greatly impacted by saturday's outage and they're slowly getting their power back on in. no novato yesterday, some parts did see power around 4:15 yesterday afternoon. at that time people were desperate to fill up gas tanks. there were three long lines at the chevron gas station. some drivers spent hours in their cars waiting to fill up. >> i'm very unhappy. very, very unhappy. >> it's crazy. i don't know. i've never quite seen anything like it. the worst thing is being out of touch with everything. my phone doesn't work at my house. >> people flresing ashlights. they've been without power since saturday. we're in downtown mill valley and some lights appear to be back on for restaurants and stores. but behind me and up the road and the surrounding neighborhood

it's pitch black. reporting live in mill valley, lauren martinez, abc7 news. governor newsom says pg&e wi ge credit to people who lost their electricity due to the power shutoffs. the governor pressed the company and other utilities to issue credits when customers have power turned off. pg&e has not said how much credit customers would get. newsom repeatedly has slammed the company for what he says is corporate greed and mismanagement. city leaders are trying to reassure residents they'll have enough drinking water despite the power shutoffs. they received a number of concerned calls. the city works says the water supply is 75% to 80% of normal. crews are installing generators to keep the wells pumping from the ground. when an evacuated windsor couple goes back home, they'll naalgiereptskso them a new
