kumasi. the city council did not make a decision but it does look like the city council will be in favor of a temporary ban of air bn bs bnb short-term rentals until they come up with an ordinance. last night there was a moment of silence for the five victims killed in that shooting then they got to work on discussing what to do about short-term rentals like airbnb. it was standing room only. they had about 50 people speak, and the public speaking lasted for about three hours. >> it's terrible to be in a neighborhood where this is going on and people are not responding properly. the reality is we're overreacting to something that is an exception rather than the rule. >> the situation is not safe. it's not why we moved to orinda. one of the reasons was safety. the shootings that happened

halloween night in orinda took place at a party in a home rented on airbnb. five people were shot to death, no arrests have been made. the city council will vote in two weeks on this emergency ordinance, but the council unanimously said last night that they are all in favor of the idea. the city said last night there are 32 active short-term rentals in orinda. live in orinda, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. breaking news at the live desk right now, an arrest in mexico may be connected to the killing of an american family. we first told you about this story yesterday morning right here on abc7 news. the victims are all part of a promine prominent mormon family. a man caught yesterday had weapons and a stolen vehicle along with two kidnapping victims tied up. at least nine americans, three women and six children were killed in an ambush. they were traveling in three

vehicles in sonoma state near the arizona border when a gunman started shooting. the kidnapping victims they rescued yesterday during the arrest are not related to the mormon family. >> thanks for that. san francisco mayor london breed has cruised to re-election. >> with 100% of pree secinctstss reporting, breed received 68% of the vote. ellen zhou had 14% of the vote. >> it's exciting and i want to get the work done because i want them to be proud of the decision they made. i want them to see a difference and be happy about the conditions of san francisco and that's going to take a lot of work. >> so this will be her first

four-year term as mayor. up until now she had been filling the rest of the term for the late mayor ed lee. the san francisco district attorney's race is a different story. suzy loftus, who was picked to be the interim d.a. by mayor breed is narrowly in the lead, that's after rank choice voting kicked in. ches boudin is less than 250 votes behind. he was ahead before rank choice results were calculated. voters in sprae s is in san fra saying yes to proposition a. it calls for a 6$600 million bod to pay for construction for affordable housing in the city. the measure is leading 69% to 30%. turning to a major upset in kentucky. a democrat has claimed victory in the governor's race. andy bashir narrowly beat republican governor matt bevin by 5,000 votes.

bevin refused to concede last night saying the race is too close to call. today president trump is looking to rebound from the republican loss in kentucky. the president will travel to louisiana to support the state's republican candidate for governor. his name is eddie rispone and he is facing john bel edwards. louisiana will hold a runoff election next week. you can find complete election coverage on our website, abc7news.co abc7news.com. >> at the live desk, i'm following a manhunt in monterey county. authorities are still searching for two murder suspects who escaped from jail over the weekend. they escaped through a hole in a bathroom ceiling. there were reports that salazar had been spotted at a motel 6 just 13 miles away from the jail, but when authorities searched the motel, the room they thought he was staying in was empty. the suspects are considered armed and dangerous.

the monterey county sheriff's office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to their capture. oakland police now say the robbery of an armored truck this summer was an inside job. this morning the search continues for another suspect. two masked men with assault rifles confronted workers from loomis armored car company. th these three people are now facing charges. damian jackson was driving the truck. they believe his uncle, dwayne jackson was one of the robbers. mercadiez moore is accused of helping to hide the stolen cash. >> here's our temperatures in the east bay. a few clouds filtering in. mainly mid to upper 40s everywhere except danville at 50 and pittsburg at 52. blackhawk, 51. on top of mount diablo, 63 degrees. we have some microclimates. mid 40s up in the north bay.

it's 5:11. breaking news from mexico. authorities arrested a man who they say might be linked to the killing of nine americans near the arizona border. antioch police are investigating a shooting that left a person dead and another injured. one victim was shot while in their car and they drove themselves to a local hospital. the second person was shot and expected to survive. the orinda scity council sas they will support a city ordinance to temporarily ban short-term rentals. the decision comes after a deadly shooting at a house party. san francisco's race for district attorney is too close to call. it's being decided now by ranked choice voting, with 100% of presents reporting, suzy loftus is leading with 50 opini.1 of t vote. the difference is just 240

their identity, though graphic photos reveal the violence, a concussion, broken nose, 16 stitches, injured ribs and at this point missing keys. >> my children saw their father this way and, you know, they were traumatized. >> they put me on a gurney, shoved me into the ambulance. that's a ride i never want to take again. >> reporter: after hours in the hospital the family finally returned home. >> we were only home about 10 minutes before the car was stolen. >> reporter: so she posted to facebook to alert neighbors. among the hundreds who reached out was a san jose police officer. >> this gentleman took a special interest in us, and he is the reason that they were found. >> reporter: the call came monday, the car located miles away. two people arrested. >> if this ever comes up again, i'm turning, going the other way, i've got a phone, hit 911, people that aren't supposed to be here. >> reporter: for now the family will focus on security and recovery. >> what a journey he's gone through. in today's "gma" first look,

re-election bid but it wasn't much of a contest. with 100% of precincts reporting, breed received 68% of the vote. ellen zhou had 14% of the vote. ventresca had 7% of the vote. san francisco voters overwhelmingly rejected prop c, 81% voting no, 19% yes. prop c would have overturned the city's ban on the sale and distribution of some e-cigarettes and vaping products. e-cigarette maker juul originally sponsored this bill and then later dropped its support. your uber or lyft rides could get more expensive. voters approved san francisco's prop d, 67% to 33%. but it's too close to call because the measure needs two-thirds approval to pass and there's still mail-in ballots to count. prop d will levee a tax on rideshares. the tax money would go to public transportation, pedestrian and bicycle projects. voters also approved prop e, 74% to 26%.

prop e will allow for 100% affordable housing projects and housing for educators. it would also speed up approval for those projects. you can find the complete election results on our website, abc7news.com. new this morning the orinda city council is moving forward with an emergency ban of some short-term rentals. >> the action is in response to that halloween night shooting at an airbnb that left five people dead. the council heard from 50 people during a standing room only meeting last night. many urged the council not to ban all short-term rentals. the emergency ordinance will prohibit unhosted short-term rentals for 45 days, while the city works on updating existing regulations. the council is expected to formally approve the ordinance at its november 19th meeting. >> the brother of shooting victim -- >> looking forward to take care of his baby and stepping up to the plate. we down right now. this will make us stronger as a family. >> that is the brother of the

shooting victim in that house party, he stopped by and said tyon was expecting a baby in march. orinda's police chief says the department is getting assistance from other bay area agencies as well as the fbi. there are now 24 investigators on this case. at the live desk, antioch police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured. east bay today reports that officers responded to calls that shots were fired at hillcrest and bellflower drive just after 7:00 last night. one victim was shot while in their car and drove themselves to a local hospital. at the same time police received calls of shots being fired at lahoya and morrow drive where two men were seen jumping and running over fences in peoples backyards. no one has been arrested. the hospital pronounced one of those victims dead. the second person was shot but is expected to survive. the search for two friends whose plane vanished off the mendocino coast has been suspended.

justen winfrey and kayla rodriguez took off from novato on october 24th. they ate dinner at a restaurant in shelter cove. the plane disappeared from radar north of ft. bragg as they returned to san francisco. searchers have found no sign of that plane. in the impeachment showdown, the state department's undersecretary for political affairs is expected to provide a deposition. >> meanwhile a critical witness is now changing his testimony confirming there was quid pro quo. the u.s. ambassador to the eu says his memory was refreshed by other witnesses who contradicted his statements and he's now admitting that president trump wanted ukraine to announce a public investigation into political rivals in exchange for 4$400 million in military aid. in his initial testimony he denied any quid pro quo but says he was just repeating what the president told him on a phone call. >> in the east bay, the city of oakland is now negotiating with the a's to sell its half ownership of the coliseum to the
