her bid for mayor. the incumbent is mind in the district supervisor race. she trails dean preston by 218 votes. that leaves preston with 58% of the vote. representing neighbors hike ride share rides still too close to call. prop d needs a two-thirds majority to pass. right now, yes, is leading with a little over 66% of the vote. revenue from prop d would go to transportation and infrastructure improvements. meanwhile, residents voted down an appeal of the e-cigarette ban. prop c was originally sponsored by jule, but the company dropped its support at the end of september. the ban goes into effect next year. you can find complete

election coverage on our website. following the unsuccessful effort to repeal san francisco's e-cigarette ban, a congressman is calling for tougher regulations nationwide. he is introducing the pre-vaping use act to halt the sale of all e-cigarettes until the fda can certify they're safe. the congressman says the industry is profiting off of teens to the tune of $7 billion in annual sales while escaping regulation. customs and border protection agents caught two murder suspects last night. they escaped from jail. a 21-year-old is on their way back to monterrey county jail. >> we received information they were in the area of tijuana. once we received that information, we notified customs border and protection agency and they were able to locate them trying to walk back into the country. >> the inmates escaped sunday by climbing out of this hole that

as for the city council here, yes, they did make their move in an effort to prevent future house parties, the kind that erupted in violence on halloween. with police still looking for the shooters, the town leaders are taking their own action as a reaction to the halloween shooting that left five people in a home that had been rented on airbnb. >>bnb is not a solution. >> reporter: they voted to instruct staff to put a temporary ban on unhosted short-term rentals, homes like the ones where the shootings happen. >> that is where a homeowner is not present during that stay and that that would be an urgency ordinance. it would be in place for 45 days while we work on a permanent ordinance. >> it is very uncomfortable to have a constant stream of strangers coming in and out of the neighborhood. >> reporter: the decision came after some residents expressed

concerns about other short-term rentals in town where hosts are not on the property. of the 32 registered short-term rentals only 11 are unhosted. the town itself has 6,800 residents. >> there was a tragedy on halloween night. >> reporter: in the meantime, the ceo says his company is taking several steps to avoid unmonitored situations. >> so we're going to have a 24/7 neighbor hotline where any neighbor can call us. we will be staffed by real people and will be a rapid response trained by police chiefs to make sure we can deal in a timely manner with complaints. >> reporter: now, the ban on unhosted rentals here is not official yet. the council is expected to formalize it at this next meeting next month or later this month. it should have no impact, though, on those who are hosting their renters. meaning, they're on the property when the guests are there.

the fog is on the way. low clouds and fog will return to the coast overnight and a little bit beyond the coast. minor warming beginning tomorrow and a vigorous warming pattern will kick in friday through the weekend. it will be some pretty sunny and mild days coming our way for a while. looks very, very dry. overnight mainly clear skies. although some patchy fog developing up at the north bay and of course more widespread fog will prevail. overnight lows will be mainly in the upper 40s. tomorrow look for mainly sunny skies even at the coast. see the fog pull back and give way to partly sunny skies. high temperatures from low 60s at the coast. mainly upper 70s. it gets warmer on friday on the low to mid-80s, which is warm for november. we will have that same pattern on saturday. and with only minor cooling likely on sunday, so we will see

the nfl salute to service campaign came to san francisco today. members of the 49ers, the military and other community groups, they got their hands dirty at the farm which provides free organic produce to people . the volunteers spent the day planting crops, removing debris. the effort was especially meaningful to a graduate of the air force academy who served overseas. >> i'm an offensive line man.

his announcement came after he went to court asking a san francisco judge to enforce subpoenas he claims that facebook has been ignoring. >> we asked for information regarding the effect of the company's various privacy setting on third party's access to data, including which apps facebook granted access to user data despite users restricting access to their information. >> he says facebook ignored requests for communications involving top company officials. facebook released a statement denying the claims saying it has cooperated extensively and provided thousands of pages of written responses. >> apple revamped its privacy settings. this new look is part of apple's effort to set itself apart from advertising driven rivals like google and facebook. the website helps users to

prevent apps and other third party services from aggressively tracking their locations and behavior. the company's privacy policy has not changed. it hasn't been an easy year for small and independent businesses saddled with high rent, increasing competition and changing graphics. one neighborhood after another is feeling the threat of losing their identity. this is one of those places. this week san francisco's board of supervisors gave trader joes the green light to open shop. the leaders argue it is part of an effort to build a better bay area by giving people more of a reason to shop in the neighborhood. but not everyone agrees. abc 7 has reaction. >> reporter: with its perky sign on its walls and an owner that's been around a long time. >> you know, so i had an opportunity, jumped on it and 24 years later here i am. so it's been a blessing. >> reporter: here is a photo when the former mayor used to stop by. it is the kind of store that

gives the store that neighborhood feel, one that he worries is fading. >> i feel like it is the only neighborhood left in the city really along with maybe one other district, chinatown i believe in north beach where they don't have chains. they're still like an independent small business and they're unique in their own ways. >> reporter: two blocks from his store at this condo, his local politician said yes to a trader joes despite the neighbor's ban on chain stores. the argument the neighborhood needs an affordable grocery store, something newer residents agree with. >> i'm very happy about it. there is not much places around here to buy groceries. >> reporter: a local distributor working with small businesses says small businesses can't survive the competition from big stores like trader joes. >> they're going to destroy all the small businesses around the area. they will. trust me. >> reporter: he welcomes some change in his neighborhood, pop-up stores and new restaurants have made it a hip place to live and work in recent
