>> you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. here's mike. >> yeah, that fog is the big story once again. petaluma and martin, visibility less than an eighth of a mile. western avenue, you need to slow down. give yourself plenty of time and use those low beams. around morgan hill, san martin, gilroy, some streets there dealing with visibility issues. around sfo, all of us dealing with fog. 50s around the coast. 60s in the bay. 70s with murky sunshine this afternoon. let's talk to jobina. >> we want to follow this issue in san francisco. emergency crews are on the way to northbound 101 past vermont. this is as you're on the approach to the lower deck of the bay bridge. this is a crash between a motorcyclist and a truck. we now have learned that this motorcyclist was hit by two

other cars following the crash. so the motorcyclist is down in the right lane. very badly injured. emergency crews are on the way at this moment here. want to leave you with a live look of the san mateo bridge, we have a fog advisory and a fog advisory for the benicia bridge, carquinez bridge abay bridge. it's been one year since the camp fire, the deadliest fire in state history. >> the town of paradise will hold several events today to honor the people who lost their lives. lauren martinez covered the fire last year and is now live in the newsroom. >> this morning there are several events happening to commemorate what happened. at 11:08, 85 seconds of silence will be held for the 85 lives lost. that's for anyone to participate in no matter where you're at. at noon, the groundbreaking of hope plaza off the skyway in paradise. around 2:00, world kitchen will host a free community meal at the paradise alliance church.

this is new drone video showing what paradise looks like today. the camp fire destroyed 14,000 homes in paradise. the surrounding communities also suffered. 12 homes have been rebuilt in the last year. paradise mayor jodie jones is all about moving forward. >> people were just astonished at the level of destruction. but i prefer not to look back. i'm looking forward. what's eye opening is the current population of the town of paradise pre-camp fire there were 26,000 people. currently the estimate is 4,000 to 5,000 people. that means fewer than 2 out of every 10 people who lived there before the fire now live there. the population of chico increased by 20,000 people. it went from 92,000 to 112,000. reporting live in the newsroom. lauren martinez, abc7 news.

>> thank you. investigators confirm that pg&e equipment started a grass fire that burned down the lafayette tennis club. the fire burned during intense winds and prompted evacuations. the contra costa fire marshal says a transformer failed, sending sparks into the brush and that ignited other spark fires across town. remains too close to call in a pair of races shaping san francisco's future. suzy loftut has 50.33% of the vote. deputy public defender chesa boudine has gained in the count with 49.67. 879 votes separate the two. rank choice voting will decide the winner to represent district 5 on the san francisco board of supervisors. dean preston leads incumbent

let's talk neighborhood temperatures. in the south bay, 47 to 53 is our spread. temperatures are pretty much in the low to mid 40s in the east bay valleys and mid to upper 40s in the north bay. the rest of us in the low 50s. here's how foggy it is at the golden gate. everything removes around the fog this morning. in the evening grab a blanket or coat. temperatures drop from the mid 70s in the north bay to 55 at 7:00. east bay, upper 60s during the afternoon hours, 57 this evening. in san francisco, we barely shed the 50s for a couple hours this afternoon. but we're back in them as quickly as 5:00 this afternoon. good morning. we are now following a sigalert in san francisco.

this is an awful situation, a crash between a motorcyclist and a truck. the chp has told us the motorcyclist was hit by two other cars after being hit by that truck. he's in the right lane is what i'm hearing at the moment. he's in one lane for sure. this is northbound 101 past vermont. emergency crews are on the way. you can see the backup is extending well this is objectis on the approac lower deck of the bay bridge. i understand we also have a crew on the way to the scene. i'll give you the latest as we have it. happening today, b.a.r.t. will retire the first of its old railcars. officials say this will be hoisted on a crane and then lowered on to the back of a flatbed truck before being driven to oakland for recycling. so the car being retired started service in 1995.

it ran about 2.2 million miles. altogether ten b.a.r.t. cars will be retired. california voters are environmentally conscious. a new survey proves that. more than 70% support a tax on plastic manufacturers. recology backed that survey. they asked voters if they would support a 2020 ballot initiative. the measure would implement a fee of 1 cent per plastic package that manufacturers could pass on to consumers in the form of higher prices. it would require all packaging being compostible, reusable or recyclable by 2030. coming

at the live desk, i'm deadl situation at a buffalo wild wings in massachusetts. one employee died and ten others went to the hospital after this were exposed to a floor cleaner in the restaurant. fire officials say the cleaner called super 8, is commonly used. it contains sodium hypochloride which has a lot of chlorine and can be dangerous.

buffalo wild wings says they are working with the franchise owner and local authorities. lyft is trying once again to get san franciscans to give up their cars. the online use car retailer, carvana are teaming up for a promotion called ditch your car. it's a six-week program where lyft will offer riders $250 in credits and three months of free rides on lift pink if they sell their car through carvana. lyft tried a similar program in san francisco last year. it says it resulted in 8,000 drivers giving up their cars for a month. >> really? >> that's surprising, right? >> yeah. >> okay. into the gianji while the giants are away for the off season, there's a different sport opening up this weekend. >> top golf returns to the giants home for the second consecutive year. the interactive golf experience lets you crush golf balls at targets on the baseball diamond. it includes digital score tracking, food and drinks. it's open today through sunday.

tuesday. look at that by thursday, ten degrees cooler with highs in the 60s. jobina? >> we are continuing to follow this motorcycle crash in san francisco. very awful situation. this is northbound 101 past vermont. what i understand is that a motorcyclist was hit by a truck. the chp says two other vehicles hit the motorcyclist once that person was already down. so really not a good situation. this is a sigalert. you can see from the map here, the backup seconds tending far, almost to 280 is what it looks like here. emergency crews are on the scene. we have a caltrans camera i want to pull up so you can look at the backup. look at the flashing lights there on the scene. this is really going to impact people that are coming from 101 and trying to head on to the lower deck of the bay bridge. our other talker is the fog. it is impacting our drive times here. tracy to dublin, 44 minutes. dublin to mission boulevard, 24

san martin, petaluma and livermore down less than a quarter to an eighth of a mile. if you're coming through the altamont pass, you will run into a thick wall of fog that will take you across 580. we had reports earlier from the chp of 50 feet. that's as far as you could see in dublin. heading up 580, 880 across the bay bridge, it's foggy. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s this morning. we'll stay in the 50s with the clouds clinging to the coast the most. 61 to 67 around noon for the bay. jobina? >> good news for everybody, that sigalert involving the motorcyclist has been canceled. you're looking live from a caltrans camera at northbound 101 past vermont there. if you see the map, we are seeing some residual delays here. it's extending still back to 280 it did look like it was moving

smoothly as people head own to the lower deck of the bay bridge a look at the golden gate bridge, it is very foggy as you can see there. we have a fog advisory for this bridge also the benicia bridge, the san mateo bridge and the carquinez bridge. developing news this mornin the family shooting at an airbnb home is orinda is planning to file a lawsuit. >> it comes as airbnb says it will pay for the victims funerals and counseling for the families. lauren martinez joins us live in the newsroom with that. >> according to the "san francisco chronicle," parents of one of the victims says that airbnb allowed dangerous party conditions that ultimately led to their son's death. now ramon hill sr. and cynthia taylor plan to file the suit today in contra costa superior court. they're claiming airbnb did not screen the people who rented out the orinda house properly and allowed drugs and alcohol. the suit claims the rental company and the owners of the

home were negligent in the wrongful death of their son, ramon hill jr. also airbnb says they will pay for funerals and counseling of the victims. they released this statement. we have set aside funds to support the victims' t loved ones with funeral expenses and counseling services and we have been in contact with those representing mr. hill's family in this regard. ramon hill jr. was one of five people gunned down at the house party off lucille way on halloween night. reporting live in the newsroom, lauren martinez, abc7 news. >> thank you. in the east bay, a community in oakland is still grieving for one of their families ripped apart by a hit-and-run driver seen months ago. a dedication was held last night for angel garcia vasquez. his mother, alma vazquez and his uncle. they were all hit as they crossed foothill boulevard on april 13th. paramedics tried to resuscitate the family but angel and alma

died. jaime is still in a coma. right after the crash oakland's department of transportation installed these plastic posts and painted a pedestrian island in the middle of the intersection. at the dedication they explained how they're making more improvements to this area. >> we determined that one intersection over at foothill and 27th avenue, there will be a new traffic signal constructed. and then here at foothill and 26th avenue we'll be installing flashing yellow lights. >> the alleged hit-and-run driver was captured by u.s. marshals in virginia over the summer. this morning stanford students are on alert after a crash of druggings were reported to the university over the past month. over the past month there have been four reports of druggings at residence halls or gatherings on campus. in one case involving an unknown location on mayfield avenue, a test came back for the date rape drug, ghb. some students say it's a crisis and they're calling on the administration to do more to address this. >> there are also many that

don't get reported. the fact we had so many reports there's a real epidemic of druggings that happen on campus. >> the university says at this point the department of public safety does not have evidence to verify the reports of drugging. university officials say we take every report seriously and encourage students to continue to report them. police are asking for students with relevant information to come forward and provide it in order to assist with the investigation. on the peninsula, the san mateo county sheriff's office says there have been 30 car break-ins since monday. thieves broke into 17 cars on monday and tuesday in millbrae, another 13 cars were burglarized in el granada between wednesday night and yesterday morning. the sheriff's office is urging everyone to take valuables out of their cars and to call 911 if they see something suspicious. the healdsburg community is coing together to thank first responders for saving the city from the kincade fire. the festivities will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a downtown trick or treat.

pop up on our roadways. we have the fog advisories for the golden gate bridge and the carquinez bridge, the benicia bridge, and the golden gate bridge. so there's a lot of problem spots around our area. taking you to oakland. we have a crash involving a pickup truck and also a box truck. so speeds are down to 17 miles per hour and 25 miles per hour in some spots. this is northbound 880 past the coliseum. we have another crash northbound 880 past 23rd. that's between a big rig and a catering truck. lots of slowdowns in that area. the fog has really been causing so many problems. >> too bad. it's been around for a couple days now. you would hope people would learn from earlier mistakes. by monday it's almost gone. good news there. let's look at what's going on. i'll talk more about the fog.

germany commemorating the commem anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall. tomorrow marks 30 years since the fall of the wall. the wall was made of nearly 27 miles of concrete and barbed wire. it enclosed west berlin in an attempt to prevent east germans from fleeing to the west. the wall became a symbol of east/west relations during the cold war. an escape tunnel underneath the wall has been opened to the public for the very first time. one escapee says the opening of the tunnel is important to remind germany how important democracy is. >> thank you. a police officer's suspic n suspicions about a truck parked outside a local store arrest of two people in mountain view. they're accused of stealing equipment from local law enforcement agencies. these pictures of james atkins and ashley hund were circulated. police discovered police gear

and stolen license plates. the national rifle association is developing its suit against the city of san francisco. the suit was filed after the board of supervisors passed a resolution in september calling the gun rights lobby a domestic terrorist organization. the nra claimed the city was infringing on its free speech rights, city officials say it was the opposite, they were only expressing an opinion. the parent company of sears and kmart announced plans to close 100 more stores including four in the bay area. >> transform company announced the kmart store and sears searss will close early next year. liquidation sales start at those stores on december 2nd. a live look at the new york stock exchange. we're now down after being slightly up a few minutes ago, about 10 points this morning. san francisco-based gap is going back to its family roots.

weather-wise. there's some fog out there this morning. you can see it creeping into the east bay hills and valleys as we look from the paeeak. delays at sfo. be careful driving around this morning. you will be late in some places because of the slowdowns and fog. some people expecoming into sfo be late as well. we'll have some slightly warmer weather and then much cooler weather transitioning back to autumn next week. the transition does not offer rain. let's look at the cloud cover. you can see it melts away fairly quickly. at least compared to yesterday. it may fade away a half hour to an hour faster. plenty of haze over the bay at noon and cloud cover at the coast. let's see what it does to our temperatures. mid 50s to upper 50s at the coast today. mid 60s san francisco, oakland,

san mateo, low 70s for the rest of the bay. lows tonight, back into the 40s, except for san francisco at 50. you can see the cloud cover dominates once again. so the pattern pretty much remains the same through sunday. that offshore breeze, slightly warmer weather for veterans day and tuesday. that dry cold front drops our temperature 10 degrees by tuesday. >> good morning. starting off with the caltrans camera here. this is northbound 880. this is in the center of our two problem spots this morning in oakland. taking you to a crash between a big rig and a box truck. this is northbound 880 past 23rd. giving the all-clear here, but the backup is happening. it is slow through there. moving through the other crash, this is definitely between a box truck. all of that gray on the map.

that's the fog. we have advisories, different brings all over the bay area. take your time as you head out. >> all right. thank you. building a better bay area, it requires having infrastructure that works. so we told you about this big pothole on highway 101 in san jose, since our report, caltrans did a quick patch. on the left is what it looked like on wednesday. it's hard to see, but on the right is what it looked like after it was patched up. our crews drove over it and they say the big pothole is gone and safe. ly fixed its battery problem. the examiner is reporting that the bikes will return to san francisco next month. lyft pulled the bikes off city streets in july after two caught on fire. the company says not only has it been approved to relaunch the fleet but also the number of rental bike also quadruple to 4,000 bikes by april of next year.

on the peninsula, a home security camera captured video of a mountain lion in san bruno. it's hard to see in that video. the big cat visited a backyard in the rollingwood neighborhood several days ago. mountain lions often prey on deer. authorities say the best way to keep mountain lions away is to avoid planting landscaping that deer don't like to eat. motion sensitive lighting can also be a deterrent. many couples who broke up earlier this year are having awkward conversations this week because text messages they sent on valentines day just got delivered. thousands of delayed texts popped while it mostly involved t-mobile and sprint, some at&t and verizon customers reported problems. sprint said a maintenance update caused the issue. t-mobile is blaming a third party vendor. >> it's a mess. my friend called me at 4:00 in the morning saying is everything okay? i was like what? he said you said call me. i said no, i didn't. >> in february. >> yes. i'm fine. i'm just getting ready for work.
