today. i really appreciate it. the story i've been watching for a couple weeks now in my home state of texas, time is running out for a texas man on death row convicted of murder. he said he did not commit it. he is set to be executed in 12 days. his lawyers say another man confessed to the crime. a lot of high profile names, rihanna, meek mill, now opera. urging the governor of texas to intervene. kim kardashian tweeted out "how can you execute a man when since his trial, substantial evidence has come forward. i urge you to do the right thing." she has really been an advocate for criminal justice reform, we have victoria brown who was he here, here, another o number of celebrities following this case. joining us from austin, texas,

and anchor there. this new evidence that his lawyers are referring to >> there are several pieces of evidence in this case, it goes back to 1996. she was found raped and strangled. rodney was arrested a year later when his dna was connected to the case. initially he said he didn't know her but later his lawyers and rodney said they had been having a consensual affair before she was murdered which explains the dna. rodney has long maintained his innocence in this case. just here in the last few weeks, his lawyers are working with the innocence project, there are

multiple new pieces of evidence in this case. one of the biggest one is they say stacey's fiance at the time was a former police officer who was actually serving jail time, a 10-year sentence for kidnapping and sexual assault while he was on duty and an inmate in jail with him said that mankind confessed to stacey's murder, saying he did not like that she was having an affair with a black man. that's one piece of evidence. another piece is another witness coming forward, another sheriff's deputy, saying he looked at her body and said "she got what she deserves." another key piece is the murder weapon, police believeieveieveie never tested for dna. they want the governor to halt the execution so they can look into this. >> tamron: as i understand, rodney reed and his attorneys
