♪ we needed somebody to lean on ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ all we need is someone to lean on ♪ news to build a better bay area, this is "abc 7 mornings." >> good morning, everyone. it's sunday, november 10th. hope you're having a great weekend. i'm liz kruetz. let's start with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning to you. we have the fog. here's live doppler 7 no advisories but looking at reduced visibility in the north bay down to a quarter of a mile in most locations. san francisco, the east bay and the south bay, a bit better but you see that one mile and three quarters in san jose. the fog is moving in but as we go through the day it pulls back, 10:00, 11:00, hazy sunshine with high pressure in control. spare the air alert. live look outside and you can

see the beginning of the sun coming up. 52 san francisco, 44 in not as cool as yesterday with the mid 40s in santa rosa. still looking like a chilly start. through the afternoon we'll see the hazy sun and in the south bay look at the particulate matter up to 105 parts. hazy but throughout the day mainly 70s to upper 70s inland, cool 60s at the shoreline. liz? >> thanks. a body has been found at a san francisco golf course right in the middle of the plenty of golfers were on the green. police say the investigation is still very preliminary at this point but golfers and residents nearby are shaken up. the body was found at the lincoln park golf course near the richmond neighborhood. police say the medical examiner will take over the remains and will notify police on the able and gender of the body. abc 7 news reporter lauren martinez has more. >> no one wants to play after seeing something horrific like this. >> reporter: a day of golfing at lincoln park golf course took a

dark turn after authorities were called out near hole 13. >> we were playing golf and came around 13/14 and before we teed off we noticed there was an odd smell. >> reporter: a body found in the middle day around 2:20 on the greens. police say they're investigating the death as suspicious. >> in this incident we had multiple officers respond and medics which is typical for any well being check. when the medics arrived on scene they did pronounce death at that time. >> reporter: police cannot confirm the age or gender. homicide detectives interviewed golfers who found the body or may have seen something. this golf course turned crime scene is completely out of the ordinary to regulars that come here. >> which is kind of surprising, too. i mean there's usually people walking around the golf course even who aren't playing, so it's really strange to have something like that just show up randomly on the course for sure. >> reporter: authorities say this is a heavy populated area,

with trails and people walking from the avenues nearby. they're asking if anyone saw something suspicious to reach out. >> give us a call. you might not know what is important to the investigation. >> reporter: if you saw something police say call their 24-hour tip line and you can remain anonymous. reporting in the newsroom, lauren martinez, abc 7 news. in the south bay, a man is dead after an officer shot and killed him. the shooting happened in saratoga around 3:00 yesterday afternoon on southbound highway 85 north of winchester boulevard. san jose police say officers were trying to stop a car. they say the passenger was wanted for an outstanding warrant. they say he showed a gun and one officer fired. the suspect died at the scene. the officer involved will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation. >> now to the electionion where suzy loftus conceded the race to chase boudin.

boudin's lead jumped from 156 to 2400 votes with about 1200 ballots to count, there's no way for loftus to close the gap. boudin celebrated with a party in san francisco. a large crowd showed up at el rio in the mission district for the victory party. this had been a contentious race, especially after mayor london breed named loftus the interim district attorney weeks before the electionion. previous d.a. george gasgone resigned in october. contributor phil matier tells us boudin's reform platform will be tested a. >> it's going to be interesting to see how he handles things like the open drug dealing in the streets of san francisco and already said he wasn't going to prosecute quality of life crimes such as public intoxication or going to the bathroom on the streets. big question is, what's he going to do about car break-ins. when i talked to him he said well one thing he was thinking about doing was having the city replace your window if you got broken into.

>> boudin made headlines after receiving the endorsement of democratic presidential candidate bernie sanders. he drew the ire of the san francisco police officers association which paid for ads attacking him. there is a much tighter race for the supervisor spot in district five, dean preston holds a razor thin lead over valley brown and declared victory yesterday afternoon. we are awaiting word from city election officials on whether the margin of 170 votes is enough. just a reminder, san francisco uses ranked choice voting to determine a winner. >> phil matier is the san francisco's chronicle's inside with columns running wednesday and sunday in the chronicle and a big part of our building a better bay area come including a series and town hall we're hosting about fremont. tune in for those stories starting november 18th, next monday. a construction worker is in the hospital this morning after a steep fall. the san francisco fire department says the worker fell 40 feet from a platform to the

ground between mission and market streets yesterday. as of the last official update the worker was in serious condition. in the east bay police say two people at a homeless camp were shot with arrows. it happened along the san francisco bay trail near you can see on the map here central avenue in richmond. one man was hit in the leg, another hit in the stomach. both went to the hospital and are recovering. a woman who was with them was not hurt. the east bay regional park district police say witness statements have helped identify a suspect. new developments, that video of bart police detaining a man eating a sandwich on a train platform is sparking outrage with the public. abc 7 news we told you about this story on friday. yesterday some people gathered to protest the incident eating their own sandwiches on bart property. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has details. >> i've got my lunch here. obviously very threatening as

you can see. >> reporter: a defiant lunch time eat-in on the platform inside the embarcadero bart station where eating is not allowed. >> my first political awakening was back at the lunch counter sit-ins in the 1960s. we're back to eat-ins. >> reporter: about 30 people gathered to protest an incident captured at the pleasant hill bart station. >> no. >> you are detained and you're not free to go. [ bleep ]. >> you came up here and [ bleep ] with me and singled me out out of all these people. >> reporter: steve foster of concord says he was detained even hand cuffed by a bart police officer because he was eating a sandwich while waiting for a train. >> definitely upset, mad, a little frustrated, still kind of angry about it. >> reporter: bart says state law prohibits people from eating or drinking in the paid portions of the station. >> would you like a muffin today. >> reporter: law or not, kelly groth was passing out breakfast sandwiches for what she called brunch on bart. >> people should be able to eat

on the platforms and not get harassed. >> i wanted to make sure i showed up and stood in solidarity and ate on this plaza which i've watched people do all the time and show what they did was beyond embarrassing for bart police. >> reporter: in the middle of the eat- protest we were surprised to find a member of >> like i'm going to be here for a little bit, talk to me about it. >> reporter: janice li brought her own lunch and believes there are bigger issues to deal with. >> i realize that some things are illegal by california penal code, but i just want to be mindful of how we're using resources to enforce our system. >> reporter: the full video shows that foster did insult the officer and used a homophobic slur. in a statement bart said about foster, was not arrested, cited for eating which is a violation of state law. the man was lawfully handcuffed after refusing to provide his name multiple times. once he provided his name he was cited and released.

bart says the video will be reviewed by their independent police auditor. in san francisco, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. bart officials said bye felicia. the decommissioned bart car is really gone now for good. bart tweeted this photo of the train car yesterday showing what's left of the car named felicia in oakland. bart has to make way for 775 new cars in the next few years and that means retiring old cars that have been running on the rails for as long as 50 years. felicia was only 19 years old but would often break down and needed frequent repairs. the tweet said bart was sad to see one of ours go this way, but we know felicia is in the big rail yard in the sky. a mural in san francisco's mission district has been vandalized again. it's on 24th and york streets and celebrates latino culture and leaders. someone gouged the eyes and defaced some of the other portraits. the same mural hit last year when someone sprayed graffiti on

over the united farm workers symbol. the artist decided to replace the symbol and add durta to the mural. police have not said if any arrests have been made. >> you're tracking the forecast. not as much fog as yesterday. >> but we are sort of stuck in this pattern with the hazy afternoon sun. there is fog out there but not dense enough that we have an advice fri the national weather service. mount tam, numbers in the mid to upper 40s in the north bay you can see the fog from below there and the air quality, well, it has been getting a bit worse with this ridge of high pressure. that moves out of town and what replaces it next with my accuweather seven-day forecast. next on "abc 7 mornings," an oakland side show crackdown, what police are doing to put a stop to the practice. plus, could we soon see an end to plastic coffee cups in the bay area. the new changes that would charge you extra on your morning cup.

charge 25 cents per disposable cup. the san francisco supervisor introduced a bill earlier this year to require a 25 cent charge for cups and containers and would encourage customers to reduce waste. a new christmas tree is up at the state capitol in sacramento. but it is getting some harsh critics. the tree was delivered this past week after the first original tree had a crack and was unsafe to put up. this new 60 plus foot tall white fur was chopped down in a shasta state forest. some arborists say they see perfection in it but some residents say it's a little sparse. >> when you told me it was the christmas tree for california i was like wow, like where is the rest of it? >> for what they paid for it i think they got robbed. >> since the tree is cut from a state forest the only costs are for employee time and fuel to bring it to the capitol. the official lighting ceremony for the tree is on december 5th. wow.

baseball team. there's klay thompson, k.d., and, of course, plenty of steph curry. he even has an autographed ball from steph's rookie season and a collection of steph curry's dolls. the man wanted something unique. a 7 foot life sized banner of the three-time champion. >> it looks like one of those street banners that hang on the lamp post, you know, when playoffs come and things like that. >> reporter: javier dreamed of adding steph's signature so he sent it to steiner sports in new york which arranged to get the superstar's signature. >> i was excited and nervous because now it's out of my possession. >> reporter: the company confirmed it received the banner but the signing originally scheduled for march got postponed. twice. by then steiner purchased had been purchased by fanatics. curry signed the banner in august and javier would have to wait more to receive the signed banner. >> two weeks later still not

hey, lisa. >> hey, liz, good morning. hi, everyone. starting out with fog and it is pretty much everywhere. it is not settled down right to the ground, so it is just a little bit better, but we will be waiting on the sun. it will be hazy sun with a spare the air alert today. live doppler 7 showing you visibility over two miles in hayward, three miles in oakland, less than that, under a half mile in napa, petaluma, five miles in livermore so with the high clouds and low clouds we're waking up to gray conditions. the pacific northwest looking at a system deflected from the north from our stubborn ridge of high pressure that continues to push down on the atmosphere. the marine layer. 50 in redwood city, 51 san jose, 44 in gilroy with 52 half moon bay. as we look out from mount tam, looks pretty nice this morning, but once again, with that high pressure in control and very

little wind at all, we're kind of recycling that air and not getting much in the way of a sea breeze, even though we're looking at the onshore flow, the winds have been light, adding humidity to the air. 49 petaluma, 46 san jose, 47 in concord, livermore at 44. from our east bay hills camera some of the haze. that's why we have the spare the air alert today and then with the wind shift on the way things will change just a little bit out there. patchy dense fog, spare the air alert and slightly warmer as we get into an offshore flow. no wind, nothing. as we go through the uniform, the northwesterly winds come back, the sea breeze, through the overnight hours we get the shift as the high pressure ridge begins to pull to the east. the winds around it will be slightly offshore and that should allow for a little bit less of an onshore push. as a result, maybe some more mixing, sunshine sooner and a

area this is "ab7 mornings." good morning, everyone. hope your sunday is getting off to a good start. we will start this half hour with a look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning. >> good morning. above the clouds here from our sutro tower camera you can see the low clouds deck. that fog again with 52 in san francisco, as well as half moon bay. it's 50 in redwood city, 51 in san jose. here's mount tam with mid 40s for santa rosa and livermore at 44. visibility only a quarter of a mile. petaluma, santa rosa, napa just over a mile in san jose. so there it is all the way towards the delta. pulls back, 10, 11:00, we're left with hazy sunshine and you can see from this vantage point our exploratorium camera spare the air alert today with poor air quality especially in the south bay. so 50s for everyone in the next hour and then by 1:00 hazy sun, 70s inland. throughout the mid and upper 70s in the afternoon and the fog becomes patchy tonight. we'll talk about slightly better

air quality on the way to start the week. liz? >> thank you. public hearings are set to begin this week in the impeachment inquiry into president trump. but the president is seemingly not concerned and continues to citicize the investigation. here's david wright with the latest. >> reporter: president trump continued his criticism of the impeachment inquiry as he left washington heading to a college football matchup between alabama and lsu. >> there's about never been a president so transparent. this is a witch hunt at the highest level. >> reporter: on wednesday the probe moves from closed-door depositions to open hearings. house republicans submitted the list of witnesses they want to testify which includes the former vice president's son hunter biden as well as the anonymous whistleblower. in the request for the whistleblower's testimony, devin nunes writes that the president should be afforded an opportunity to confront his accusers. late today the chairman of the house intelligence committee adam schiff said he will

consider the republican request but cautioned this inquiry will not serve as a vehicle to undertake the same sham investigations into the bidens or 2016 that the president pressed ukraine to conduct. earlier this week the democrats began releasing transcripts of some of the closed door testimony. lieutenant colonel alexander vindman the national security council's director of european affairs was on the call between trump and the president of ukraine, according to vindman's transcript. when questioned if he had any doubt trump was asking for investigations of his political opponents vinds mand -- vindman replied there's was no doubt. david wright, abc news the white house. ahead of the first public testimony in the impeachment inquiry committee member and san francisco congresswoman jackie speier will come to "this week" you can watch the full interview on "this week with george stephanopoulos" at 8:00 on abc 7. new overnight a new oil

field containing about 53 bill barrels worth of oil has been discovered in iran. the country's president announced it in a speech today. he says the discovery would mean iran's oil reserves would be increased by a third. right now, iran has 150 billion barrels of oil reserves and iran's energy industry has been hit hard by u.s. sanctions over its collapsing nuclear deal with world powers. protesters are fighting to stop the death of a texas inmate who is slated for execution in a little more than a week. yesterday supporters of rodney reed gathered outside the governor's mansion in austin. reed is scheduled to be killed next wednesday for the 1996 killing of a 19-year-old woman, but new evidence uncovered by the innocence project is leading a growing number of people to pressure the governor to intervene. even celebrities like oprah and activist shaun king. >> thousands of men like rodney have been wrongly arrested, wrongly charged, wrongly convicted, wrongly imprisoned, wrongly sent to death.

>> a bipartisan group of 26 texas lawmakers have also signed a letter urging the governor grant reed a reprieve. this morning, firefighters are busy taking down a brush fire in the hollywood hills. the fire broke out before 2:00 near the warner brothers studio. the studio was evacuated and people living in the area were told to shelter in place. you can see here, plumes of thick smoke were seen for several miles. firefighters have gotten a handle on the 34 acre fire which is 15% contained. no injuries or damaged buildings are reported. a big change to social media coming this week. instagram will start hiding like counts and only start as a test on some accounts in the u.s. this morning, we're getting a new analysis on what's driving the change according to a senior writer with the tech magazine "wired". >> they want instagram to be a place where you express yourself and post photos that bring you joy and help you connect with the people around you and not a

place that makes you feel miserable like you're left out and not as good as the people around you. >> there's been some backlash and many say hiding like counts will make it harder to determine whether other metrics like follow counts are legitimate. "good morning america" will be taking a closer look at this coming up at 7:00 a.m. right after abc 7 mornings. a gender reveal in texas almost turned into something much worse. a new report says a couple's attempt likely caused a plane crash. the crash happened in september near the town of turkey in west texas. the pilot's crop duster stalled out after dumping 350 gallons of pink water during the celebration. one passenger suffered minor injuries. the pilot was not hurt. still ahead on "abc 7 mornings" a crazed turkey on a different turkey trot. >> my 4-year-old daughter was just excited every time we saw him. she calls him her turkey friend. >> more on what's driving this turkey to follow a family no matter where they go.

with the light and variable winds, high pressure in control, we are still looking at those hazy afternoon skies. as they build upon each other that's why the air quality district has called a spare the air alert today. areas of fog not quite as dense. we're going to briefly warm up tomorrow and tuesday before a cool down arrives with a weak system come the middle of the upcoming work week. look at the numbers in the 40s, upper 40s in the north bay. low 50s for you in san jose. it is 50 in san mateo. the afternoon sea breeze and temperatures here with a little sun and the marine layer in and around the upper 40s for santa cruz. it's going to be a cooler day in the 60s. here's a look at live doppler 7 where we have lots of cloudy skies all the way out towards the delta along the central coast and that visibility is better in the east bay with 5 to 8 miles, three miles in hayward, but just over a mile in san jose. the coast is okay, it's the north bay once again from petaluma, napa, santa rosa, looking at some of that patchy

dense fog. there's a weather system to the north as it rides to the north of us, our high pressure ridge finally getting nudged to the east. as that does, it will offer a few more systems to ride down into the pacific northwest but nothing of significance is going to get close to the bay area in the next seven days. the rain stays well to the north and we will look for the cooler weather in terms of more clouds, the temperatures coming down with each successive system but overall, we're looking at the ridge to go away tomorrow and allowing for warmer temperatures to start the week hopefully improving the air quality. 68 santa clara, 56 milpitas, spare the air alert and onshore flow keeping it cool from san mateo to redwood city. upper 50s at the coast. san francisco about 62 today. and in the north bay looking for mid to upper 70s. a little change for you that cool start, that hazy finish and on the east bay today by 3:00 in the mid 60s. starting to feel good by the
