here in walnut creek we have hazy conditions. spare the air alert today, santa ana valley the poorest air quality. we're in the 50s to near 60s the next hour or so. autop upper 70s inland. liz? the first public hearings start next week as call for joe biden's son to testify. >> they should be public. what i said was misreported as usual. what i said was simple, there shouldn't be impeachment hearings, is what i said. >> reporter: republicans have made clear who they would like to testify, sending democrats a list that includes hunter biden and the anonymous whistle-blower. the ranking republican said the president should be afforded an opportunity to confront his

accuser. but house intelligence chair adam schiff appeared to reject those two proposed witnesses. this inquiry is not, he said, a vehicle to undertake the same sham investigations into the bidens or 2016 that the president pressed ukraine to conduct for his personal political benefit or to facilitate the president's effort to threaten, and retaliate against the whistle-blower. as it stands, the first witness scheduled to testify is america's top diplomat in ukraine, william taylor. behind closed doors, taylor has already given some of the most damning testimony. he told the committee the administration's abrupt decision to freeze nearly $400 million in military aid helped russia and was harmful to america's national security. he also testified that u.s. officials negotiated an explicit quid pro quo, the money in exchange for arranging a hatchet job on the bidens.

filed and for him to be anonymous. >> congresswoman speier went on to say that president trump broke the law and the ukraine call is, quote, a very strong case of bribery. that was on "this week" this morning. in many ways the topic of impeachment is overshadowing policy messages for democrats on the campaign trail. abc correspondent whit johnson talked to candidates. >> reporter: on the eve of an historic week in washington, the gravity of the impeachment inquiry looming large over the campaign trail. >> this is about donald trump, not about anhingwr so wha trump is doing is what he always does, tries to take the focus off of what the problem is. >> reporter: of the 17 democrats running for president, seven of them are currently serving in congress and could be called back to capitol hill to participate in the inquiry, including senator bernie sanders, who sat down with our rachel scott. >> i will be doing my job, and i'm there. i guess i'm just going to have

to be in washington, d.c., and des moines, iowa, and concord, new hampshire, at the same time. i'll do my best. we'll do what we have to do. >> reporter: but the tone somewhat measured among most of the presidential hopefuls, bracing for potential fallout. >> do you still worry that the public hearings, that the inquiry, is a potential distraction and can hurt democrats politically? >> some things come along and are so important that i don't know what the political consequences of impeachment are going to be, but i know what the moral and constitutional consequences would be if there were no accountability at all. >> impeachment to me has the potential to be a real distraction because any opportunity we have to present a new positive vision for the country is what we should be doing. >> reporter: democrats hope their message can cut through the noise as the president they wish to unseat digs in for a fight. >> i'm not concerned about anything. the testimony has all been fine. >> reporter: whit johnson, abc 7

news, new york. locally, to the election where suzy loftus has the race to boudin, whose lead jumped yesterday. there is really no way for loftus to close the gap. boudin celebrated with a party in san francisco. [ cheers and applause ] a large crowd showed up at een e especially after mayor london breed named loftus interim district attorney weeks before the election. abc 7 news contributor phil matier tells us boudin will be tested. >> it will be interesting to see how he handles things like open drug dealing in the streets of san francisco. he said he wasn't going to prosecute quality of life crimes such as going to the bathroom on

the street or public intoxication. what will he do about car break-ins? he told me one thing he was thinking about doing was having the city replace your window after being broken into. >> boudin received the endorsement of presidential candidate senator bernie sanders. and there is also a much tighter race for the supervisor spot in district 5. dean preston holds a razor thin lead over brown. we are still waiting to get word from city election officials on whether the margin of 170 votes is enough. a reminder, san francisco uses ranked choice voting to determine a winner. phil matier who you've seen many times in our election coverage is "the san francisco chronicle"'s insider with columns every wednesday and sunday. he's also a big part of our "building a better bay area"

coverage. tune in for those stories on abc 7 starting november 18th, that is next monday. a body has been found at a san francisco golf course right in the middle of the day when plenty of golfers were on the green. police say the investigation is still very preliminary but golfers and residents nearby are obviously quite shaken up. the body was found at the lincoln park golf course near the richmond district. police say the medical examiner will take over the remains and notify police on the age and gender of the body. abc 7 news reporter lauren martinez has more. >> reporter: no one wants to play after seesomething like this. of golfing took a dark turn at hole 13. >> we were playing golf, came around 13, 14. before we teed off, we noticed an odd smell. >> reporter: a body found in the middle of the day around 2:20 on the greens. police say they're now investigating the death as suspicious.

>> in this incident we had multiple officers respond as well as medics, which is typical for any well-being check. medics arrived on scene and pronounced the death at that time. >> reporter: police cannot confirm age or gender. this golf course turned crime scene is completely out of the ordinary to regulars that come here. >> which is kind of surprising too, there's usually people walking around the golf course, even who aren't playing. so, i mean, it's really strange to have something like that just show up randomly on the course for sure. >> reporter: authorities say this is a heavily populated area with trails and people walking from the avenues nearby. they're asking if anyone saw something suspicious, to reach out. >> give us a call. you might not know what is important to the investigation. >> reporte iyoine sayl tir y remain anonymous. in the lauren

martinez, abc 7 news. thousands of san bruno residents have power back this morning. the area in orange on the map was without power for 90 minutes yesterday morning. about 4,000 customers are in that area. the cause still unknown. residents on treasure island also struggled with a power outage friday night into saturday. it was the second outage for that area in less than a week. lisa, you're following the forecast right now, the fog, i know. >> lots of fog out there. it is beginning to clear in part of our east bay valleys. still gray for many of you. it's 51 at the golden gate bridge here. we'll see that clearing again today, revealing a hazy afternoon sky with poor air quality south of the golden gate. we'll bump the numbers up a bit before they take a bit of a give. i'll explain, coming up. thousands came to san francisco for the fourth annual girls festival. we'll introduce you to the winner of one main events.

in the south bay, a man is dead after an officer shot and killed him in san jose police say officers were trying to stop a car. the suspect died is at the scen. the officer involved will be

placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation. that video of b.a.r.t. police detaining a man eating a sandwich on a train platform is sparking outrage with the public. abc 7 news first brought you the story on friday. yesterday some people gathered to protest by eating their own sandwiches on b.a.r.t. property. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has the details. >> i've got my lunch here, obviously very threatening as you can see. >> reporter: an eat-in on the sit-scadero station were eating in the 1960s. now we're back to eat-ins. >> reporter: the incidet was captured at the pleasant hill b.a.r.t. station. >> you're tainted. >> you single me out of all of these people. >> reporter: steve foster of concord said he was detained, even handcuffed by a b.a.r.t. police officer because he was eating a sandwich while waiting

for a train. >> definitely upset, mad, frustrated, still kind of angry about it. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. says state law prohibits people from eating or drinking in the paid portions of the station. law or not, kelly groth was passing out breakfast sandwiches. >> people should be able to eat on the platforms and not get hazard. >> i wanted to make sure i showed up in solidarity. i've watched hundreds of people eat on the plaza all the time. and show what they did is beyond embarrassing for b.a.r.t. police. >> reporter: we were surprised to find a member of the b.a.r.t. board of directors. >> i'm going to be here for a little bit, talk to me about it. >> reporter: janice li brought her own lunch. she believes there are bigger issues to deal with. >> i realize some things are illegal. but i just want to be mindful of how we're using resources to enforce our system. >> reporter: the full video shows foster did insult the officer and used a homophobic

the hills for a couple of hours tonight into monday. as we look at our visibility, quarter mile in petaluma and napa. still pretty foggy to the north. to the east bay, mile and a half visibility in oakland. that dome of high pressure overhead deflects the storm track to the north. because of that, a spare the air alert. this is a look at a foggy san francisco where it's 51 degrees. we'll have a lot of sunshine on the way, though, as high pressure builds in behind a weak system today. 52 in san jose san jose, 54 in half moon bay. sunshine from walnut creek so the edges of the fog bank continue to erode. a cool 46 in santa rosa. the sun will allow numbers to jump into the 50s in livermore. here is a look at sutro, a neat

been great. temperatures right now are cool, in the low 50s in san francisco. we're at about 50 in redwood city. half moon bay, 54 and pretty hazy and foggy for mt. tam. we've got low clouds, haze out there, even a few high clouds. 52 in livermore. and we will look for that fog to clear out within i would say about the 11:00 hour. but just right now, a quarter mile visibility for many of you in the north bay. a little over a mile for you in oakland. just a half mile in hayward. it is gray in parts of san jose as well. looking at that spare the air alert for moderate air quality for most, poor in the south bay. look at the temperature spread, 50s at the coast, upper 70s inland. we'll talk about a warmer holiday coming up, liz. >> thanks, lisa. firefighters in southern california are battling a 34-acre brush fire in the hollywood hills. yesterday there was smoke rising over the mansions and movie

studios. abc 7 news reporter marci gonzalez has the latest. >> reporter: a new wildfire in los angeles. >> it was crazy. it just looked like it enveloped the entire side of the mountain. >> reporter: the barnham fire burning more than 30 acres in the heart of hollywood. flames raging just across the street from the warner brothers studio lot. some production companies and film crews evacuating. the fire spreading into griftith pa park. >> it looked frightening, a real inferno. >> reporter: hotspots flaring up as crews battled the flames on the ground and in the air through the night. this as california recovers from several destructive fires last month, the particultick and get forcing mass evacuations and the kincade fire charring thousands of acres, only fully contained days ago. wind is fortunately not a factor

right now, so fire crews expect to make significant progress containing the fire today. marci gonzalez, abc 7 news, los angeles. new overnight, an oil field has been discovered in iran. the country's president announced it in a speech today. he says it will mean iran's oil reserves will be increased by a third. right now iran has 150 billion barrels of oil industries. iran's energy industry has been hit hard over u.s. sanctions over its collapsing deal with world powers. protesters are fighting the expected execution of rodney reed. reed is scheduled to be killed next wednesday in austin for the 1996 killing of a young woman. but new evidence uncovered by the innocence project is leading a growing number of people to pressure the governor to intervene, even celebrities like oprah and john king. >> thousands and thousands of man just like rodney have been

let's talk sports. no local nfl games today. tomorrow night the 49s will try to stay undefeated when they battle the sea hawks on monday night football. if you're not going to the game, you can watch it right here on abc 7. coverage begins at 5:00 p.m. the warriors are back home tomorrow night against the jazz hoping to snap a three-game losing streak. last night they wrapped up their road trip in minnesota. here's abc 7 sports anchor chris alvarez with the highlights in this morning's sports.

the niners put the unbeaten record on the line monday when . pregame coverage at 4:00 and ga monday. enjoy your sunday. if you're just joining us, lisa. >> liz, it's going to be nice for the niners game tomorrow night at 5:00. how about upper 60s with sun down in santa clara? bad air, hazy conditions in san francisco. much of the same on top today with that mini summer-like temperature spread we've had day after day. with that ridge of high pressure overhead, not a lot of mixing out there. the atmosphere is stable. we've had the fog, spare the air alert. then we get cooler weather by the middle of the week and cloudy conditions. it will feel more like the season. but we're not going to get any rain in here. we're in the upper 50s. the sun is eroding the fog into

the east bay. 60s by the delta. 55 in oakland. cool 40s into the north bay. our exploratorium camera with partly cloudy skies here, a mixture of fog and haze. invisibili visibility about a half mile in spots. it was about a quarter mile down and less earlier, so we're getting some improvements and this fog is beginning to pull back to the west and just evaporate altogether. here is a look at the big picture. you can tell there's a big dome of high pressure over the golden state allowing the storm track to go up and over the ridge. currently a weak system is riding over it. and that's going to nudge that area of high pressure just enough to the east to get a wind shift. that's also going to give us an offshore flow for a few hours as we get into the overnight hours tonight andnd.'r jt a few degre, six degrees warmer in livermore since we have the sun.

that offshore flow shouldn't be anything to worry about although we do have those very dry conditions in the upper elevation. that's going to happen and it's aluaty as we get into tomorrow and tuesday. 68 santa clara today. 65 in milpitas. we've got the sea breeze coming in to play and hazy skies, 58 in pacifica. downtown, about average, in the lower 60s. we're above average here again going from the 40s to the upper 70s up in santa rosa. vallejo, about 72. on the east bay, should be nice. it started out cool and gray and we're beginning to see a little brighter conditions, mid-60s castro valley. about 64 in berkeley. you head inland, we've got that haze. the numbers are in the upper 70s here with the mildest conditions from arch livermore out towards fairfield. the accuweather seven-day forecast, a little bit of fog back in the picture tonight again. tomorrow, veterans day, the mild

javier remembers beating tom brady while playing for san jose high's baseball team. there's plenty of steph curry. he even from steph's rkie seasoa collection of dolls. but the san jose man wanted something unique, a seven-foot life size banner of the three-time champion. >> it looks like one of those street banners that hang on the lamp post when the playoffs come, things like that. >> reporter: javier dreamed of adding steph's signature to that banner so he sent it to steiner sports in new york which arranged to get the superstar's signature. >> i was excited and nervous, because now it's out of my possession. >> reporter: the company confirmed it received the banner but the signing, originally scheduled for march, got postponed twice. by then, steiner sports had been purchased by fanatic. curry signed the banner in august and javier would have to
