6-year-old angel garcia vazquez and his mother were killed as they crossed the foothill at 26th avenue. the suspected hit and run driver was later arrested. >> it's grief and love to the families who were impacted. >> oakland city council member said that new safety improvements have been made at 22nd and foothill. barriers and poles, an effort to slow cars down. >> you cannot speed towards the intersection and cut a corner and potentially hurt somebody. >> blocks away on 26th avenue the city installed a pedestrian island surrounded by posts. the neighbors have noticed the traffic improvements and they say, they are not sure it's all going to work. >> everyone is driving fast. pretty unsafe. >> i hope it works. but everyone still drives crazy on it. so, pretty fast. i'm not sure what needs to happen. >> speed humps have been added near garfield elementary. some cars were slowing down.

[ laughter ] was a congratulatory call made in april after president zelensky won the election there. trump claims he'll release the transcript for that tomorrow.
