prospective. >> tamron: he's unapologetic as was john weatherspoon, we recently lost, one of your mentors. these are comedians who thrive. >> i think we live in a society where we pretend we should all feel the same way. listen, if you don't dig what i say, i understand. you don't have to hear what i have to say. but that doesn't mean i don't have the right to say it. why do i need to make excuse -- out of the guy need to. i think those things have always appealed to the comedians i love and respect, a certain kind of mind they have. it's unflinching. john was on my show about four days before he passed. the best thing about it was that we got to drink together and laugh, he was strong and healthy. and then -- this is sad to say but he died with gigs in the

books, he died when people wanted to see what he did. and he died -- he didn't suffer. like an old man withering away and hospice care. that dude died without suffering. no one wants to go but if you don't go, i'd rather burn out then fade away. my fondest memory of him is i never like to go out. he would have him and his wife, would have these functions, we would go over and they would bee pasadena, we'd be in the house he bought drinking good wine. they he had good wine. he didn't let everybody have it, just me. >> tamron: you got the special line? of this happened with me and patti labelle. that's how you know you been anointed. the we both love hats, that's our passion. he always tries to steal my ha hats. today i hear you are going to repay all the times you try to

tours, i've been to iraq, afghanistan, everywhere. he had always all kind of started here in new york city, i was going to an airport and a serviceman came up to me and said hey, we traded dvds of "that 70s show," getting a laugh at the end of the day is important to us. and i was like, it's important to me that you keep wearing that uniform. it's because of you that we have the beautiful country we have today. i called my agent right away and my wife and i went out there and just said hi. i heard they liked the show and whatever and as soon as i met them and understood the value and the importance of us reminding them that we not only think about them, not only we remember but we appreciate the sacrifices because it's ridiculously crucial and critical for not only their morale but when they come home. >> tamron: veterans day is not one day, it's every day. i don't know what to say. >> tamron: we were talking about how people can look at on the outside at their heart is what matters in one of the things i love about you, everybody knows i'm obsessed with demi lovato. when you supported her and continue to support her publicly as she is healing, i just think that that form he made you just even more beautiful. she is an expert you supported her. [applause] was that important to show that love publicly? >> you know, i've said things and support for her in the past. i will tell you, first and i will just say this, we will always have a friendship. no matter what. and i just want nothing but joy and happiness for her life. [applause] >> tamron: that's like every mom's dream. >> it's dream. >> tamron: why was that important for you? >> it was super important to me, family means everything. they sacrificed so much for my sisters and me to come to america, right? they sold everything they had in venezuela so we could come here and have a better shot. and have the education that they never had. so i don't want them to be that far. to be front row to what they made possible and made happen, right? it's hard to keep your parents up to date with what you're doing sometimes, you keep living your life. >> tamron: you are the best

anton was found dead in her apartment tuesday. police have detained eight people possibly linked to the case. turning to a frightening ordeal for a teenaged pilot who survived crashing into a lake. >> it was after the crash the real test of his endurance began. cole miller of our seattle station has the story. >> reporter: soaring above washington in that open cockpit is brett easter. no stranger to flying, the 19-year-old had recently bought this bright yellow ultralight and went for a practice run on monday. >> my plan was just to do one lap before going to work. i fueled up, took off. my first turn in the pattern i looked back at the airport, looked forward again, my propeller's not moving. >> reporter: that run would end like this, that aircraft and easter down in lake morton. the engine had gone out. >> the first thing that goes through your head is, nobody else deserves to be hurt because your engine failed. >> reporter: so the water it was. he unbuckled his harness and held on. underwater, the clock ticking,

now out of prison, joe who is not a u.s. citizen is living in italy while he awaits the ruling on his deportation appeal. teresa sitting down with us just days after visiting him. just go back to italy, you get off the plane. tell me about what happens next. >> i was so overjoyed seeing my daughters, how happy they were seeing their dad. this trip was like all about focusing on our daughters. like it really wasn't about us. >> do you still feel anything for him? >> there's always going to be a place in my heart for joe. i'm always going to love him no matter what. >> even together or separate? >> always, yes. >> reporter: rumors of infidelity making headlines and plaguing their marriage. can you say without a doubt you have been completely faithful to joe? >> yes. >> throughout the marriage, even incarceration, everything? >> yes. >> you don't believe he's been faithful to you? >> i mean -- >> how are you able to move past that, though? that can be a deal breaker for a lot of marriages. >> because i never caught him. like i never caught him, so it's like hearsay.

>> are you planning on filing for divorce? >> not any -- no. >> do you see a future with him? >> i don't know. imagine he lives in italy and you lived here? i mean -- i don't know. i don't know if that's like a feasible relationship. >> do you think that you could find happiness and love again with joe? >> to be determined. >> you haven't ruled it out? >> we're taking it day by day. >> do you feel like you could love again and give your heart to somebody again? >> of course i do. i mean, i'm young. i'm still young. if it does go that path, i want the same for joe. >> you'd be okay seeing him happy with another woman? >> of course. if that's the path we choose, yes. >> do you think he would be happy seeing you with another man? >> we only really want the best for each other. we really do. and like see, i'll start crying. because we both do. and like that -- i kept crying on the trip. because -- because of that. >> do you need to go back to italy and just the two of you spend some time together? >> i don't know about that.

this morning on "world news now," another horrific and deadly school shooting. >> this time in southern california. police say the alleged gunman, a student, opened fire on fellow students on his 16th birthday. what investigators have found on social media possibly hinting something was coming. >> also this morning day two of the historic impeachment hearings. the former ambassador to ukraine is set to testify in public. this as the president held a campaign rally slamming those who testified against him. fight night in the nfl, three players thrown out after this brawl between the browns and steelers. some are even calling for one player to be suspended for the rest of the season. the rematch on "jeopardy!." james holzhauer up against emma boettcher who ended his 32-game winning streak. see who's ahead before tonight's

>> we are starting also on a serious note, another school shooting in america. we begin for the search for a motive in that deadly high school shooting in a los angeles suburb of santa clarita. >> after the shooting officers led students, many with their hands in the air, a scene we have seen before. students and teachers blocked doors with desks and chairs as you see there. they had practiced during that during two lockdown drills already this fall. >> last night a vigil was held in santa clarita for the two teenage victims and the three who were wounded. the 16-year-old suspect who tried to take his own life remains in critical condition this morning. all schools in the district will be closed today. abc's matt gutman is on the ground and has the details. it was just before 8:00 a.m. at this school north of los angeles when police say the teen walked up carrying a backpack and opened fire. >> we've got an active shooter, saugus high school. >> reporter: dozens of cruisers and s.w.a.t. teams racing to saugus high school in santa clarita. >> male asian wearing a black hat and blue jeans. >> reporter: students were congregating in the quad near the entrance when the alleged gunman, also a student,

approached and opened fire. >> detectives have reviewed the video at the scene which cheerily show the subject in the quad withdraw a handgun from his backpack, shoot and wound five people, and then shoot himself in the head. >> reporter: killing a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. officials say it was the suspect's 16th birthday. some of the 2,000 students there barricading rooms with chairs. others running for their lives. >> we heard what sounded like binders dropping. because that happens. >> or a birthday balloon popping. >> especially by the library where it echoes. then there was still something in our gut that told us that was wrong. >> that doesn't sound exactly like a balloon. >> then it went quiet, then we heard two more. >> then we realized. >> something is wrong, this is not normal. >> then another pause, then three more. that's when we grabbed our friends and we just ran.ac iel e >> reporter: 17-year-old hayden said his parents have been preparing him for this since he

was 4 years old. >> i did have my water bottle just in case, that's a deadly weapon. >> reporter: choir teacher kaitlin holt finding herself doing triage in her classroom. >> i put whatever i could on it, tissues and stuff, had another student hold pressure. then we laid her down. she was very responsive. >> reporter: hundreds of students led out with heavy security, some with their hands in the air. >> my daughter texted me saying, i love you, mom, i hope i get to see you again. so -- yeah. it was heartbreaking. >> my hands were shaking. i was crying. i didn't know what to say, i didn't know what to do. do i go to work, do i turn around? >> reporter: waiting for what seemed an eternity for news and those embraces. >> as parents you go to work every day to provide for these kids. the last thing you want to hear is they've taken a bullet. they're just kids trying to get an education. >> reporter: in the aftermath outside the suspect's house, police taking up positions.
