you can see it spinning there on top of mount st. helena. picking up light showers. so far i have not seen this hit a reporting station up there. the air is still dry underneath the showers. you go down to the lower elevations, we have another thin ribbon of moisture that is bringing us some drizzle this morning. watch out for that. you can see on our san rafael camera, it looks clean right there. let's talk about your temperatures, this is the mildest morning this week with low to mid 50s, with all the cloud cover and moisture in the air. we have dry air slowly seep into thecreasing sunshine at the noon hour. temperatures mid 50s at the coast. inland, 63 to 67 at 4:00. 57 at 7:00. frances has some news for you. >> we've been tracking a problem in the peninsula, northbound 101 at san carlos. an earlier box truck fire has been cleared off-ramp may still

blocked. consider marine parkway as an alternate. northbound 101, all lanes are open now following road work that was picked up. this is 680 in walnut creek. that was scheduled road work. traffic was backed up from 242, but they're clearing this as well. it's starting to recover. the bay bridge toll plaza is backed up towards the end of the parking lot for some of the cash paying lanes. and as we check out some drive times, we have green traffic in the north bay, santa rosa southbound 101 to petaluma, 13 minutes. delay-free in the south bay. >> thanks. we have new video of a two-vehicle crash in san jose that sent at least one person to the hospital. it appears a sedan and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of trimble road and first street. fire officials could be seen rolling one person on a stretcher into an ambulance.

the cause of this crash is under investigation. an entire school district in southern california is canceling classes today following yesterday's deadly school shooting. >> police say it unfolded in about 16 seconds. lauren martinez joins us from the newsroom with the latest. >> the william s. hart union high school district is canceling classes today. two students were killed and four more were injured including the gunman yesterday. police say the gunman killed the classmates who were among a group gathered near the high school's entrance before classes began. they say it was the shooter's 16th birthday. investigators say it took 16 seconds for the teen to pull the gun out of his backpack, shoot several students and turn the gun on himself. >> it was a normal thursday. we woke up in the morning. got ready. our biggest problem was, you know, about dance on saturday and, you know, whether you forgot to do your homework or not. then all of a sudden it's life

or death. >> moments after shots rang out, the first responders on the scene were three off-duty law enforcement personnel. they just dropped off their own children at the school. the motive for the shooting is unclear. officials say there's no indication of any link between the shooter and the victims. reporting live in the newsroom, lauren martinez, abc7 news. >> thank you. developing news, five men are under arrest this morning in connection with a deadly mass shooting in orinda at a halloween party. this is video of the s.w.a.t. team that the contra costa county sheriff's office surrounding an apartment complex in marin city were two suspects were arrested. yesterday during a raid that spanned multipleheer taken into in san mateo, vallejo and antioch. investigators did not announce a motive for the shooting. they say five people were killed on halloween night at a house rented out on airbnb. the families of three of the victims in the orinda shooting

will be filing a lawsuit against airbnb and the property owner. attorney john burriss is representing the families. >> five people are dead, three we represent that frankly the environment that was put in place was put in place that allowed for this to occur was by airbnb as well as the owner of the facility. >> burriss says the families are pleased with the news of arrests. last week the family of another victim filed a wrongful death lawsuit against airbnb, the city of orinda and the home owners and the party organizers. happening today a korean war veteran will be finally laid to rest with a proper burial in dixon. after nearly seven decades, the remains of army first class phillip mendoza arrived at sfo on wednesday. in 1950 he was reported missing in action during the korean war. his remains were accounted for in august after president trump's summit with kim jong-un. scientists identified mendoza's remains in the more than 55

are demanding action. they say a bicycle chop shop is well established along a popular trail. they're concerned it's attracting more criminal behavior. amanda has more. >> reporter: this video shows what many describe as a guadalu river trail at the virginia street bridge in san jose. >> the bike thing has gotten bigger over the past four years. he feels for the homeless people pointing to circumstance blaming the lack of affordable housing and lack of action by city leaders. >> i hope they'll invite the people here first to come talk. >> reporter: others say it's criminal behavior. >> it's crazy. i've walked in these places. there's tents. there's places with sprockets and bicycle parts. >> reporter: surveillance footage shows the moment someone stole his bike. he then scoured homeless

encampments and area chop shops. this is how his bike was returned. we contacted the councilman's office about this issue. his office said this was the first they heard about it adding we encourage neighbors to report criminal activity in their neighborhoods to our police department and work with them on combating these type of issues. but residents question whether their reports will turn into real action. >> recently we had a shooting in the park. we actually met the day before and told them it was going to get bad, and unfortunately the next day somebody got shot which is a block, two blocks away from where the chop shop is. says in his search for his bike he came across at least four chop shops and the location is one of the more sizable operations he's seen. in san jose i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. let's look at what's going on with your weather. we have temperatures in the mid to upper 50s along the peninsula where somepotty drizzles

possible during the morning commute. here's a look elsewhere. mid to upper 50s until you get to los gatos, antioch, one of the cool spots, 50. 51 at fairfield, napa, san rafael and santa rosa, 47. here's the golden gate bridge. no fog as the marine layer deepened enough. it allowed some of that moisture to rise above the golden gate. there may be a patch of fog and drizzle there. we'll have tranquil weather this afternoon, except for at the beaches where we have that sneaker wave issue. so don't turn your back. 4:00 this afternoon, the sneaker waves will start to back off. here's the north bay, 55 through 9:00. low 60s at 11:00. the sunshine pushes us in the mid to upper 60s. east bay, 57 by 9:00. sunshine a little bit later after the 2:00 hour. that's why we're going to be in the low to mid 60s. 57 at 7:00. here in san francisco, temperatures in the 50s through

right turn and heading on 24 westbound, you will run into drizzle. we have a chance of light sprinkles, even a stray shower. best chance across the north bay. this afternoon some fading clouds, sunshine to end the work week. then near record warmth this weekend. a quick return to average next week. this area of low pressure moving through. that's why we have that chance of some wet weather. this high pressure that temporarily went away, it will come back with a vengeance. again, only staying for about three days. today the sunshine arrives too late to give us any significant warming. we'll possibly hit 71 low 60s at the coast. tonight, this morning is our mildest morning. clouds will fill back in in some areas. you can see around the bay and

searching the home of a suspected school shooter. a 16-year-old boy accused of killing his classmates on his own birthday. >> it's a sad day in saugus. it's a sad day in los angeles county and the nation for another tragic shooting at a school. >> reporter: investigators say it took 16 seconds from the first gunshot to the last. >> everyone's priority was to get out. just a flood of students. terrified. >> reporter: two saugus high school students shot and killed as their classmates were just starting their day. >> i started running. i seen people run. once i started running, i'm like my goodness, this is actually happening. >> reporter: police say a 16-year-old shooter shot five students total before turning the gun on himself. the shooter remains in grave condition. >> we turned the news on, all we saw was someone giving cpr to a kid. that broke a lot of our hearts. we knew that kid wasn't going to make it. >> reporter: many students were prepared. lockdown drills now part of

their normalized routine. >> as soon as it happened. we got our desks and put them at the door and barricaded the whole thing. >> reporter: the sheriff is not identifying the teen suspect, but neighbors say his troubled father recently passed away. >> i knew he used to make bullets. i assumed he had guns. >> reporter: the fbi is investigating, they say there's no reason to believe the shooter is connected to an ideology or a group. as far as a motive, there's no word yet on his relationship to the victims. >> that was veronica miracle reporting. you can go to abcnews/take action to find more information on bullying and school safety. lawmakers in capitol hill are readying for day two of the public paechimpeachment hearing. >> in about a half hour, they'll start questioning the former ambassador to ukraine who was ousted by president trump.

elizabeth hur has those details. >> good morning to you. in about a half hour from now, we will hear from marie yovanovitch who says she felt threatened by president trump and was blind-sided when she was forced out of her post. this morning the impeachment showdown resuming with former ambassador to ukraine marie yovanovitch taking center stage. in an earlier closed-door deposition yovanovitch testified that she was warned by ukrainian officials to watch her back, that president trump's personal attorney, rudy giuliani, and his associates had plans and that they were going to "you know, do things including to me." this comes as democrats continue to build their case against the president. >> the bribe is to grant or withhold military assistance in return for a public statement of a fake investigation into the elections. >> reporter: but president trump maintains he did nothing wrong. at a rally last night in louisiana blasting the first two

five people are waking up in jail following a connection to a house party that left five people dead in my hollyfield martinez. >> teams of officers like this team that you see here, this was in marin city, they raided four cities to make five arrests. this is two weeks after the shootings in orinda that happened halloween night that issue with the number of officers. >> this place here is a tight knit community. yo had kids coming out of this house and there were no pants on at 7:00 in the morning, s.w.a.t. cars coming. >> looked like something out of a movie. my point is they wouldn't -- you wouldn't have went in to mill valley like that. >> here is a list of those people arrested. they range in age from 20 to 30.

they are from san mateo, marin city, antioch and vallejo. the first four being held without bail and are charged with murder and conspiracy. the fifth, 21-year-old devin williamson of vallejo is accused of being an accessory. his bail is $500,000. officers did not announce a motive but sources tell abc7 news it could be an issue between two rival gangs, and the sheriff said who of the victims who died were armed. he said that could have played a role in the tragedy. reporting live from martinez, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. pg&e says it is not for sale. but some people think it should be. the latest local community eyeing a slice of the company. and volunteer dogs are needed. what researchers hope to study on 10,000 pets. first a live look outside. that's a cool picture of san

francisco this morning at 5:38. mike, how are we looking? >> look at that mix of clouds and stars out there. temperatures now in san francisco, 54 to about 56 degrees. so there's not much of a spread out there. 53 is the cool spot. the same temperature everywhere because of the cloud cover and the amount of moisture in the air that helps hold the temperature up. in fact, we have 48 in tracy, 49 in healdsburg. those are the coolest temperatures out there. on the san mateo bridge, no patchy drizzle at best. a stray shower, sprinkles in the north bay. this is all for the morning. during the afternoon hours, increasing sunshine, no more threat of wet weather. that is kind of a double edged sword. we need it here's the east bay valleys, 57 through 9:00. increasing sunshine after the lunch hour. temperatures warm into the upper 60s. 59 under stars at 7:00. you'll need a jacket quickly.

if you're headed out the door today, we're streaming this at abc7 news app. an update from the i-team. italian prosecutors say they finished their investigation into two young men from the bay area who are being held in the death of an italian police officer. prosecutors are asking for an immediate trial. finn elder and gabe natali have been in a rome prison since the july 26th stabbing death of that officer. the teens say they didn't know the officer and his partner were police. the judge has five days to decide whether to grant the request for a fast trial. sonoma clean power's board of dreshgirectors has voted to the agency study if they should acquire pg&e power lines. the move follows the lead of san francisco and the public power agency in yolo county. both made offerers to buy pg&e's distribution grid.

pg&e says pg&e facilities are not for sale and changing the structure of the company would not create a safer operation. san francisco leaders and long-ty long-time customers are demanding that a cafe stay hope despite getting an eviction notice. abc7 news was in north beach when a rally took place outside caffe sapore at lombard and taylor streets. caffe sapore served people in the same location for 23 years. now they've been told to get out in the next month. the owner believes the community would lose if they were to close. the landlord has not commented on the pending eviction. another sign the ysh yholiday season is here. downtown ice opens today. admission is $15 for adults.
