twitter calling the aide to the vice president a never trumper. >> as the president and other republicans demand to hear from the whistle-blower who triggered the investigation, house speaker nancy pelosi is vowing to make sure the president does not intimidate the anonymous official. as the house impeachment inquiry prepares for three more days of public hearings this week, democrats are not wavering. >> the president of the united states used taxpayer-funded military assistance to pressure a foreign leader to help him in his re-election campaign. >> reporter: republicans are pushing back. >> the evidence is crumbling. i think the democrats know they're in trouble on this. >> reporter: over the weekend the committee releasing transcripts of the closed-door testimony from jennifer williams, a member of vice president pence's staff. williams was on that july 25th phone call in which trump brought up investigating the bidens in the 2016 election. she testifies she remembers the mention of burisma, the ukrainian energy company where hunter biden served on the board.

but the transcript of the call released by the white house makes no mention of burisma. the president blasting williams sunday tweeting, tell jennifer williams, whoever that is, to read both transcripts of the presidential calls. she should meet with the other never trumpers who i don't know and mostly never heard of and work out a better presidential attack. that tweet comes days after the president attacked former ambassador marie yovanovitch as she was testifying. >> i think part of it is his own insecurity as an imposter. i think he knows full well that he's in that office way over his head. and so he has to diminish everyone else. >> she used the word imposter. talking about the president of the united states. who 63 million people voted for. >> reporter: house speaker nancy pelosi on cbs saying the president will have every opportunity to present his case. meanwhile the witnesses lined up to testify this week could poke holes in the republicans' defense. >> in addition to jennifer williams, tuesday we will hear from lieutenant colonel alexander vindman and tim morrison, national security officials who were also on the call to ukraine. also testifying tomorrow, kurt volker, former special envoy to ukraine. and wednesday, the much-anticipated testimony of eu ambassador gordon sondland,

followed by two senior state department officials thursday. it will be fiona hill, the president's former top adviser on russia. >> stay with abc news for live coverage of the impeachment hearings tuesday, wednesday, thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m. eastern. we do have breaking news to get to this morning. in fresno, california, police say a family gathering turned into a deadly shooting scene. >> ahoti others wounded when a gunman opened fire on a group of people who had gathered at a home to watch a football game. the suspect reportedly snuck into the backyard and shot ten people who were there. it is unclear if the suspect was known to the victims. the southern california high school where two students were shot and killed last week will remain closed for two more weeks. thousands of people attended a vigil last night. three other students were wounded and the young gunman himself died later from a self-inflicted gunshot. syracuse university has suspended all fraternity social activities after the latest in a string of racist incidents. saturday night a group that

president joe biden, jumping 16 points in two months. the south bend, indiana, mayor has the most offices in the state, his message seeming to resonate. former new york city mayor michael bloomberg continuing to test the waters. he's criticized his potential rivals for apologizing too much for their pasts. >> joe biden went out and apologized for being male, over 50, white. beto whatever his name is, he's apologized for being born. >> reporter: but in a speech in a predominantly black church in brooklyn, bloomberg with his own apology, saying he regrets his controversial stop and frisk policy, a policy he defended for years. >> i now see that we could and should have acted sooner and acted faster to cut the stops. i wish we had. i'm sorry that we didn't. >> reporter: the top ten candidates will meet on the debate stage in georgia on wednesday. with those new rising poll numbers in iowa, mayor pete could now find himself a target. whit johnson, abc news, new york.

disaster. the damage is estimated at more than $1 billion. also overseas the stunningly candid interview with britain's prince andrew. >> he's breaking his silence about his friendship with accused sex trafficker jeffrey epstein. here's abc's eva pilgrim. >> reporter: prince andrew speaking publicly about his relationship with the multimillion-dollar financier and convicted sex offender jeffrey epstein in an exclusive bbc interview saying multiple times he doesn't regret their initial friendship. >> do i regret the fact that he has quite obviously conducted himself in a manner unbecoming? yes. >> unbecoming? he was a sex offender. >> yeah, i'm sorry, i'm being polite. in the sense that he was a sex offender. but no. was i right in having him as a friend at the time? bearing in mind this was some years before he was accused of

being a sex offender. i don't think there was anything wrong then. the problem was the fact that once he had been convicted -- >> you stayed. >> i stayed with him. >> reporter: in 2008 epstein was convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor and became listed as a registered sex offender. in 2010 the prince was seen in this video obtained by "the daily mail" appearing in the doorway of epstein's new york mansion. prince andrew admitting he stayed four days saying he came to end their friendship. >> you were staying at the house -- >> yes. >> -- of a convicted sex offender. >> it was a convenient place to stay. there is -- i mean -- i've gone through this in my mind so many times. at the end of the day -- with the benefit of all the hindsight that one could have, it was definitely the wrong thing to do. but at the time i felt it was the honorable and right thing to do. >> reporter: earlier this year epstein died of apparent suicide

in jail, awaiting trial for child sex trafficking charges. prince andrew maintains that despite multiple visits to several of epstein's homes, he never saw any indication of unlawful conduct involving underage girls. >> i won't stop fighting, i will never be silenced until these people are brought to justice. >> reporter: virginia roberts giuffre, now 35, says she was one of epstein's teenage sex slaves. in court filings, giuffre claims epstein ordered her to have sex with powerful friends, including on three occasions, prince andrew. >> i have no recollection of meeting this lady, none whatsoever. >> you don't remember meeting her? >> no. >> reporter: the prince categorically denying he ever had sex with giuffre. as for this now infamous picture of the two together, the prince says he doesn't remember it being taken and says it could be a fake. >> nobody can prove whether or not it -- that photograph has been doctored, but i don't
