candace. at least eight witnesses are scheduled to testify this week in public hearings, and over the weekend president trump lashed out at one of them. as the house impeachment inquiry prepares for three more days of public hearings this week, democrats and republicans are not wavering. >> the president of the united states used taxpayer-funded military assistance to pressure a foreign leader to help him in his re-election campaign. >> reporter: republicans pushing back. >> i think the evidence is crumbling. >> reporter: over the weekend the committee released transcripts of the closed door testimony from jennifer williams, a member of vice president pence's staff. she is scheduled to testify tomorrow. she was on that july 25th phone call in which president trump brought up investigating the bidens and the 2016 election. she testified she remembers the mention of burisma, the ukrainian energy company where hunter served on the board, but the transcript of the call released by the white house makes no mention of burisma. 9 the president tweeted on

sunday in response, tell jennifer williams, whoever that is, to read both transcripts of the presidential calls. she should meet with the ever never trumpers. that tweet coming days after he blasted former ambassador marie yovanovitch as she was testifying. >> i think part of it is his own insecurity as an impostor and so he has to diminish everyone else. >> she used the word impostor talking about the president of the united states who 63 million people voted for. >> reporter: and on wednesday the most anticipated hearing, eu ambassador gordon sondland set to testify. he originally said the president never asked for a quid pro quo from ukraine but has since revised that initial closed door testimony. >> mr. sondland has to decide whether his primary loyalty is to america or whether his primary loyalty is to the president of the united states. >> reporter: and as the president and republicans argue over the process of these hearings, over the weekend house speaker nancy pelosi invited the president to testify before the committee in person or in writing to defend himself. candace. >> andrea, thank you. well, breaking overnight, president trump has reportedly

changed his mind about banning the sale of most flavored e-cigarettes to address the vaping crisis. "the washington post" reports the president scrapped the idea because of concern about job losses that could result from the ban in key states. and we're also following breaking news from fresno, california, the scene of a deadly mass shooting. police say at least four people were killed when a gunman entered the backyard of a home where a family gathered to watch football. six others were wounded. the shooter escaped. police have not revealed a motive. they say no children were hurt. new violence is breaking out at a college campus in hong kong today. anti-government protesters who were barricaded on campus all weekend tried to escape this morning, but they were turned back by police using tear gas. it's unclear if any protesters were able to flee the campus. over the weekend some demonstrators used slingshots and bows and arrows against police. one officer was hit with an arrow in the leg. abc's ian pannell was there. >> reporter: just insane scenes here. you can see the amount of bricks, molotov cocktails and

explosive devices in front of the police. the police are now saying that if protesters continue to use things like bows and arrows, attack vehicles and throw molotov cocktails, then they will respond with the necessary force which could include live ammunition. >> overnight hong kong's high court struck down a ban on face masks. it was aimed at protesters trying to hide their identity. new questions around colin kaepernick. he was supposed to take part in a private workout for the nfl this weekend, but he abruptly canceled the event to hold his own workout instead, and now many are saying the last-minute change may hurt his chances of playing again. this morning, new fallout after colin kaepernick's ultimate quarterback sneak. >> he don't want to play. he wants to be a martyr. >> the nfl surprised the polarizing player by offering a workout at the atlanta falcons facility this weekend. but just a half hour before the workout, kaepernick changed the venue moving it nearly 60 miles away. >> our biggest thing with everything today was making sure

we had transparency with what went on. >> reporter: the league says 25 teams showed up for the scheduled workout, but only 8 made it to the changed venue. according to kaepernick's camp they moved the workout after the nfl rejected kaepernick's own camera crew for filming. >> i suspect that what would have happened is they would have spun it as or released whatever they would have wanted to cherry pick whatever footage. this was a publicity stunt on the part of the nfl, and we called their bluff. >> reporter: it's been nearly three years since kaepernick played an nfl game. in a grievance he claimed team owners colluded to keep him off the field because of his national anthem protest against racial injustice and police brutality. the case was settled in court. this morning, kaepernick's lawyer says they've gotten feedback from four of eight teams that watched his workout. but many are saying his decision to move the venue hurt his chances of playing again. >> and if he had showed up, i'm here to tell you i believe he would have had a job inside of two weeks. but it didn't happen because he

epstein died of an apparent suicide in jail while awaiting trial on child sex trafficking charges. prince andrew maintains despite multiple visits to several of his homes, he never saw any indication of unlawful conduct involving underage girls. virginia roberts giuffre says she was one of his sex slaves and claims when she was 17, epstein ordered her to have sex with some of his powerful friends including prince andrew. >> you don't remember meeting her. >> no. >> reporter: the prince denies having sex with giuffre. as for this infamous picture the prince says he doesn't remember it being taken and says it could be fake. >> it is a photograph of a photograph of a photograph. so it's very difficult to be able to prove it, but i don't remember that photograph ever being taken. >> andrew also claims that on the day of their alleged encounters he was with his daughter getting pizza. >> why would you remember that so specifically? why would you remember a pizza express birthday and being at home. >> because going to pizza

responders and paramedics rushing to the scene. police say this all happened just before 8:00 last night. dozens of friends and family llincl watching the sunday night football game. >> somebody came up on foot possibly, at least one suspect, and began firing. they fired into the backyard where most of the people were in this party, striking ten people in the course of that gunshot. >> the six injured men are being treated at the hospital. it's possible there was more than one gunman, police are not releasing information on the suspect. so far there's no information on this being gang related. special federal agents from the san francisco field office are helping with the case. all of the victims have been identified as asian males. we'll keep following this breaking news and bring you the latest. it is 4:29, if you're just
