generators. >> it's all about generators nowadays if you're going to have your power turned off. >> if will soon become when. pg&e is giving a 48-hour notice about another possible blackout. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. thank you for joining us. 264,000 customers statewide have been notified they could lose power beginning on wednesday. >> nearly 40,000 of the customers are still in sonoma county, one of six bay area counties included in this public safety power shutoff. >> in marin county, more than 23,000 customers could be impacted. it's about the same number in contra costa county. and more than 12,000 customers in alameda county could lose power. >> napa county is also on the list for these blackouts with around 11,000 customers. at just under 2,000 customers in solano county could lose power as well. >> some businesses are still recovering from october shut offs. a restaurant in forestville is planning ahead. >> we're really not going to order. so as you see, normally today is the day where we bring in a lot of our product to start prepping for next week.

and this week we have very, very little in there. >> during the last shutoff, backyard was closed for five days. >> abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with more on the winds expected this week. sandhya? >> ama, those are dry, gusty offshore winds that will be raising the fire danger. take a look at how dry it is around the bay area. this is our drop monitor, and pretty much everyone dry. what is going to happen is an area of low pressure is going to drop down into california on wednesday. winds are going to pick up behind it out of the north-northeast. and when that happens, it will dry out the atmosphere even more. red flag warning going up 4:00 a.m. wednesday to 7:00 a.m. thursday. wind gusts for the north bay mountains, east bay hills and diablo range between 35 to 45 miles per hour. possibly over 60 for isolated areas. and that means any fires that do develop will spread quickly. so fire danger rising as we head towards midweek. ama? >> thank you, sandhya. and to get the latest news sent to you, download the abc7 news app. we'll send out push alerts as

pg&e updates the process so you'll know if the lights are going to go out where you live. meanwhile, top executives at pg&e are facing a panel of sacramento lawmakers over the utility's power shutoff missteps. they were criticized about poor communication with customers and were asked about improvements. david louie has pg&e's answers. >> the same three executives who have been the public face of pg&e during the power shutoffs found themselves before the state senators on the energy and utilities committee. the goal was the hear what lessons had been learned as hundreds of thousands of its customers lost power during public safety power shutoffs during high wind events over the past two months. ceo bill johnson and two senior vice presidents made their case that they're doing better and that more weather stations are being installed. democratic state senator criticized pg&e for being reactive when the state's other two major utilities in southern california have been more aggressive about fire safety and minimizing power outages. >> yes, absolutely we're willing

to look at other things, accelerate. we have done a number of things. we have either researched or stolen shamelessly from our colleagues in the south about what they're doing. and in fact we're already talking about do we have the right things in the right order. >> lawmakers said the scope of psps events and wild land fire risks demands faster action by pg&e. johnson said pg&e expects to see some progress in the next two to three years, but it might take five years to get to, in his words, a good place. he said that undergrounding of lines and hardening of other lines will continue. but unlike other parts of the state, pg&e's transmission system includes considerable amounts of high voltage lines that cannot be put underground soechlts focus is limited to distribution lines. david louie, abc7 news. let's move now to a case in the south bay that is generating a lot of conversation. the prosecutor who used his own daughter as bait to catch man he says molested his daughter while

she walked her dog on the los alamitos creek trail. a psychologist talked with abc7 news reporter chris nguyen about the dangers of this kind of undercover operation. >> a santa clara county prosecutor now under fire for using his 13-year-old daughter as bait to catch an alleged child molester on this trail. >> you might be upset. you might want vengeance. this is not the way to handle it. and we rely on prosecutors to know better. and hopefully, he has learned from this. >> police arrested 76-year-old ali muhammad lajmiri last week after they say he inappropriately touched the victim on multiple occasions this summer as she walked her dog on the los alamitos trail in almaden valley. the investigation began in october after the victim told her doctor she had been sexually assaulted. according to a police report obtained by our media partner "the mercury news," the prosecutor took his daughter back to the trail and attempted to get lajmiri's incriminating actions on video which was then

turned over to police. >> the girl may not anticipate the unintended consequences of being retraumatized by this experience. so i'd be concerned about that. >> the case has been referred to the state attorney general's office due to conflicts of interest and the prosecutor could face charges of child endangerment. in a letter sent to his staff this afternoon, district attorney jeff rosen said in part the choices we make in our professional and personal lives need to be in harmony with the protocols, laws, and ethics of our criminal justice system. lajmiri who told investigators he suffers from alzheimer's is being held in the county jail on $3 million bail and returns to court in late january. in san jose, chris nguyen, abc7 news. now to a big cold case arrest in the east bay. today the alameda district attorney announced felony sex assault charges against a man they say attacked a woman as she walked to bart after work in union city, and another woman as she walked near livermore high school. both of these attacks happened

22 years ago. prosecutors charge gregory vien. that includes a baskin robbins ice cream spoon that he used and left on the ground. the dna samples matched but there were no hits in the national database. investigators hope this arrest could solve other cases. >> what we're hoping is this story or that stories such as this will spur the memories of some of our victims that may not have reported the crime at the time. >> livermore police developed new leads this year through a genetic genealogical search similar to what happened in the search for the golden state killer. and that led them to vien. hundreds of people have just finished saying farewell to the late kaiser ceo bernard tyson at a memorial in san francisco. the 60-year-old died sunday. abc7 news reporter lyanne melendez is live outside chase center where this event was held. lyanne, he was so well

occupy a vacant home as part of their fight for affordable housing. abc7 news was in west oakland where moms for housing held a house warming party today. the mothers, who don't have secure housing, say the home they're now occupying is owned by an investment company that has left it vacant for more than two years. >> we're going to take our community back. we are taking our community back. this is our city. we live here. we work here. i hold three jobs. dominique's a full-time working mom. it's like we're going to fight and we're going take it back. >> our media partner "the mercury news" reports moms for housing hopes they can make a deal to buy the house. the group says if police try to force them out, they do not plan on leaving. the east bay's only h shelter for people age 55 and older says an urgent need has forced it to open early. st. mary's center emergency winter shelter decided to open today, two weeks earlier than usual. shortly after opening, it was already half full. >> we have up to 25 to 30 beds,

and i've already seen people signed in. right. wow. >> we work with senior to make sure that they're enrolled in case management and support services so that our shelter is more than a roof. it's a door to a way home. >> last year st. mary's center served 119 people and placed 37 of them in permanent or transitional housing. all right. now to consumer news, which includes a cat food recall. >> 7 on your side's michael finney is here with that for us. >> this comes from a utah company. it is issuing a nationwide recall for bags of frozen cat food. go raw is recallng two-pound bags of quest beef cat food after samples tested positive for salmonela. the food was shipped and sold in stores nationwide. customers with affected product should return it for a refund or throw i the food. symptoms include di dominal pain and fever. a warning is going out this

evening about counterfeit fire extinguishers. underwriters laboratory say extinguishers have been found in south america with counterfeit ul certification seals and fraudulently labeled with brand names like amerex and buckeye. the actual manufacturers are unknown, but the extinguishers are marked with model 45610 cd fire extinguisher. now if you have one, you need to take it out of service right away. heads up to owners of 2019 model dodge caravans. the automaker is recalling 30,000 of them because improperly welded second and third row seats could come loose in a crash. now the welds break, the seat belts would not restrain passengers. those with the 2018 dodge, pardon me, caravan, should contact their dealership right away who will make the necessary repairs free of charge, of course. we have more information on abc7news.com. >> good. excellent. thanks, michael.

danger with a red flag warning going up during that wednesday, thursday time period. let's look at the hour-by-hour midnight on wednesday. the winds are going to begin to pick up. as we head into wednesday morning 6:00 a.m., notice the gustiest winds are over the north bay. 26 miles an hour calistoga at 1:00 p.m., middletown 33 miles per hour. now the higher elevations could see gusts in isolated spots over 60 miles per hour. even wednesday night, 35 in calistoga. 3710:00 p.m. you will notice those gusty winds do translate down even to some of our valley locations. but not as strong as it will be over the hills. then by thursday at 10:00 a.m., those winds will begin to subside. let's take a look at the short-term forecasts. tonight 7:00 p.m., no real clouds. but then by morning, we're going see the fog return. clouds increase, and in the sierra, this is going to start to turn a few scattered snow showers as a low-pressure system comes through. that has prompted a winter weather advisory 4:00 p.m. tuesday to 7:00 p.m. wednesday. be prepared for possible travel
