the president talking about ukraine, and he's explaining why he remembers that call in such vivid detail. >> abc's megan tevrizian has the new details from capitol hill. megan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, candace and kenneth. unlike last week, this week we'll hear testimony from officials who listened in on that controversial phone call between president trump and ukraine. this morning begins three days of public testimony from nine witnesses. today's lineup includes three state department officials who listened in on that july 25th phone call to ukraine including jennifer williams, a special adviser to the vice president who called it unusual and inappropriate, and lieutenant vindman, the top ukraine expert on the national security council and now a new witness added to the list for this week, david holmes, the diplomat who testified he overheard a phone call between eu ambassador gordon sondland and president trump. the transcript of his closed door testimony released overnight.

holmes telling investigators he remembers the call vividly because of its candor. holmes saying he heard sondland tell trump, the president of ukraine, quote, loves your expletive. when probed if president trump cared about ukraine, holmes responded, not at all and that he only cared about this biden investigation that giuliani is pushing. and this morning, secretary of state mike pompeo dodging questions about why he has declined to offer public support to state department employees like marie yovanovitch, former u.s. ambassador to ukraine who has been caught up in the impeachment inquiry. >> i'm happy to talk about ukraine policy today. i'm not going to get into the issues surrounding the democrat impeachment inquiry, just not going to do it today. >> reporter: this as president trump says he is strongly considering testifying in the impeachment probe after this informal offer from house speaker nancy pelosi. >> the president could come right before the committee and talk, speak all the truth

that he wants if he wants to. >> reporter: and the president responding to house speaker pelosi saying even though he did nothing wrong, he likes the idea and will strongly consider it. megan tevrizian, abc news, capitol hill. >> all right, we'll see if that actually happens. megan on capitol hill, thank you. well, president trump's doctor says the unannounced visit to walter reed medical center over the weekend was part of a planned checkup dismissing rumors about the president's health. the military doctor released a letter explaining the physical exam was off the record because of what he called scheduling uncertainties, and he said the president's cholesterol is down, and the doctor said despite some of the speculation, the president has not had any chest pain, nor was he evaluated or treated for any urgent or acute issues. now to the colorado man convicted of killing his fiancee, patrick frazee will spend the rest of his life in prison for the brutal murder. a jury found him guilty despite no body being found and little physical evidence against him. this morning a colorado father has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his fiancee

even though her body has never been found. a jury monday determining that there was still enough evidence to find patrick frazee guilty of killing kelsey berreth. >> it was a sweet day in the sense that justice was brought to patrick frazee for this brutal, gruesome, senseless murder. >> reporter: berreth was last seen shopping with the couple's daughter on thanksgiving last year. prosecutors insisted the evidence that frazee killed berreth was overwhelming after frazee's former mistress, krystal lee, cut a deal becoming the prosecution's star witness. lee told investigators on thanksgiving day frazee wrapped a sweater around her head and asked her to guess the scent of various candles then beat her to death. >> with a bat in the back of the head as kelsey is sniffing candles with a blindfold over her eyes. >> reporter: in court, lee testified frazee told her how hard it was to eat thanksgiving dinner with my family when the

mother of your child is in a tote in the back of your truck. lee admitted she helped clean up the crime scene after frazee burned the body. also taking the stand an inmate who spent time with frazee in a county jail. he said frazee made a hit list with the names of witnesses set to testify against him including lee. >> i learned that patrick frazee had committed a homicide. >> frazee declined to testify and his lawyers never called any witnesses of their own. >> we wish kelsey were here today. that would be true justice if she could join us today. >> as frazee faces a life sentence krystal lee is waiting for her sentencing dates. she's pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence. we're following a developing story from hong kong where anti-government protest are holed up in a university campus. the campus has looked more like a war zone during days of fiery clashes with police. about 400 people have been arrested. hong kong's leader said overnight about 100 protesters are still barricaded inside the school. abc's ian pannell says others have escaped but could still be arrested. >> reporter: overnight some of

the minors, that's those under 16, were allowed to leave with the injured although it's not clear whether or not they'll still be charged. those inside also want to leave but, of course, they refuse to surrender to the police who will inevitably arrest them. >> hong kong's leader says there's no need for china's military to intervene. the trump administration is reversing a long held u.s. policy in the middle east. secretary of state mike pompeo says the u.s. will no longer consider israeli settlements in the west bank to be a violation of international law. the announcement could be a boost for prime minister benjamin netanyahu, a trump ally who is trying to hold on to power. time now for a look at your weather for this tuesday morning. the storms in the northeast will move out later this morning with just a few more showers in northern new england this afternoon. we then expect mild weather in the northeast and the south as temperatures rebound. highs near the great lakes will be in the 40s. but the midwest will reach the

the way just in time. no one was hurt. the driver was ticketed for speeding. a new campaign aimed at helping people addicted to meth is sparking controversy. south dakota unveiled the ads on tv and billboards hoping to raise awareness about the growing crisis but the slogan meth, we're on it is raising eyebrows with critics calling it tone deaf. state officials defended the campaign saying they needed to capture people's attention in a unique way. there's new backlash after prince andrew's interview about sex offender jeffrey epstein. an accounting firm has now ended its sponsorship deal with one of andrew's charities. a british university and second charity are also considering the future of their relationship with prince andrew. he has been criticized for the way he explained his ties to epstein during an interview with the bbc. >> do i regret the fact that he has quite obviously conducted himself in a manner unbecoming, yes.

>> unbecoming? he was a sex offender. >> yeah. i'm sorry. i'm about being polite. in the sense that he was a sex offender. >> epstein took his own life in august while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. prince andrew is facing new calls to tell american authorities about his relationship with epstein. chick-fil-a says it will no longer donate to charities criticized by gay rights activists. instead the fast food chain says it will concentrate giving to charities whose focus is on education, homelessness and hunger. the company and its president have been criticized for opposing same-sex marriage. one charity that will no longer receive donations is the fellowship of christian athletes which got more than $1.5 million from chick-fil-a just last year. burger king is facing an impossible lawsuit. a vegan customer claims that the chain is contaminating its so-called impossible whoppers which are plant based by cooking them on the same grill as meat burgers.

being accused of embellishing her resume. >> this morning, mina chang is defending herself saying she did not embellish career background. she's also addressing a "time" magazine cover with her face on it which turned out to be fake. this morning, a high ranking state department official has resigned amid new questions about her resume. mina chang joined the state department in april and was later nominated for a job where she would have overseen a budget of $1 billion. according to an investigation by nbc, chang withdrew her nomination after a committee asked her to provide documents on her career background. among the allegations in the report chang's bio calls her an alum that of harvard business school when she only attended a seven-week course there. she allegedly falsely claimed to have served on a on a united nations panel and claimed to have addressed both the republican and democratic national conventions in 2016 but only spoke in an affiliated

event associated with the conventions. caeng is also accused of using a fake "time" magazine cover with her face on it to tout her nonprofit group's work. in a 2017 video chang was asked about the cover. >> let's take a look at some pictures you brought with you. so here you are on "time" magazine. congratulations. tell me about this cover. >> well, we started using drone technology in disaster response and so that was when the whole talk of how is technology being used to save lives in disaster response scenarios are being used, and i suppose i brought some attention to that. >> "time" magazine confirmed the cover is not real but chang denies creating it saying in a statement to abc news that the cover was made without her knowledge by a fan who used an app to create a realistic fake magazine cover which was subsequently circulated online. in her letter, she criticized top brass at the state department for not defending her calling the allegations a character assassination based solely on innuendo adding my superiors at the department refused to defend me, stand up for the truth or allow me to answer the

false charges against me and went on to slam the culture at the state department saying the morale is at its lowest, the professionalism and collegiality once a hallmark of the u.s. service has all but disappeared. overnight her biography which used the same photo as that time magazine cover was removed from the department's website. the family of a cornell university freshman who died after a frat party is pleading for answers. the body of 18-year-old antonio tsialas was found in a gorge two days after the off-campus party. his parents are now offering a $10,000 reward for information about what happened to their son. the father of timothy piazza, a penn state student who died after a hazing incident is calling on cornell to do more to help that family. >> there is a void in our lives right now. and that void is a loss of our child. >> these senseless activities or events or behaviors have to stop. >> cornell has suspended the

fraternity that had the party and placed a freeze on all fraternity and sorority events. reality tv star kylie jenner is selling a majority stake in her cosmetics company for a whopping $600 million. she made the deal with the beauty company coty which owns brands like cover girl. the ceo calls kylie a modern day icon with an incredible sense of what consumers want. kylie jenner launched the brand with a lipstick kit when she was 18 and used social media instead of spending money on marketing. she launched her skin care brand in may and sold out of product in just ten hours. in sports the nfl's monday night trip to mexico came down to the final seconds. the chargers had a chance to tie the chiefs, but philip rivers' pass was picked off there in the end zone. kansas city went on to win the game, 24-17. meanwhile, this guy is being called the best football fan in america. he said six weeks ago he would sleep on the roof of a bar until the bengals won a game.

whole pie. for that business, the timing is really terrible. just one week before thanksgiving. wole pie in santa rosa has 600 orders for thanksgiving. they have boxes stacked and ready to go. they said it won't happen if pg&e shuts off the power. the local library here behind me will be used as a charging station for people here in marin county who want to come get snacks, charge their phones. there's other stations that will be set up around the county as well as other counties right now. pg&e says that the power shutoffs are likely to start tomorrow morning. there is not really times at this point. a lot of information is fluid. power shutoffs will likely start tomorrow morning. pg&e hope to have most people's power restored by thursday night.
