that breaking news is in berkeley where hundreds of protesters surrounded a building at uc berkeley during a talk tonight by author and commentator ann colter. >> seven people were arrested including one inside the event. >> reporter: good evening, guys. about an hour ago but you can still there's lots of people out here protesting. earlier sky 7 was overhead as some people in the crowd appeared to start fighting with each other and with officers. multiple mass protesters were arrested. earlier in the evening sky 7 also saw a person on the ground.

first responders loaded that person onto a blackboard and loaded them away. police have not provided any details of that incident. it also seemed the crowd made it difficult for people with tickets to get inside the event. berkeley college republicans organized koulter's tweet tonight called adios america and kou -- >> we need some time to assimilate the ones already here and i do believe anyone can become, i think, i know, anyone can become a great american. >> reporter: now as we take a live look at sky 7 overhead you can see barricades have been setup to make a clear path for people leaving the event.

uc berkeley officials say there were no reports of any damage. now another speaking event organized by college republicans was violently shutdown by protesters in 2017. berkeley officials say they've had several conservative speakers since then without any incident. >> thanks very much. we have new details surrounding the two men involved in yesterday's deadly b.a.r.t. stabbing. >> tonight we're hearing from family and friends of the victim, a man being called a good samaritan for what he did. >> reporter: dan, ama, while family and friends say they are obviously very shocked and heartbroken over the death, they say they aren't surprised he died a good samaritan. this public facebook post shows how family and friends will remember tuesday's stabbing victim, happy, always enjoying life. the alameda county coroner named

oliver t. williams was the man killed. family members identify this as his facebook page. >> he always tried to help people, and i'm not shocked he tried to help somebody the other day. >> reporter: according to b.a.r.t. williams tried to stop this man from stealing a shoe from a sleeping passenger. during the fight b.a.r.t. police say he pulled out a knife in self-defense. they say he was killed with his own weapon. >> both individuals took it upon themselves to start a fight, and it's something unfortunately happened and somebody lost their life as a result of it. >> reporter: someone many describe as a loving father. on facebook his daughter posted this message. if you knew anything about him, you know he loved showing off his daughters. >> tyrone was a beautiful man. >> reporter: she knew tyrone as a neighbor and friend adding his actions are entirely reflective of the man she knew. friends and family agree they

say tyrone always stood up for what was right. >> like i said i'm not shocke he tried to help him. that sounds just like him. >> reporter: tyrone was just weeks away from becoming a grandfather. >> amanda, thank you. the suspect in the stabbing is 39-year-old germane grim of san francisco. paramedics took him to the hospital around 12:30 yesterday morning on an unspecified medical call. police say when they checked ri. he's being held at san clarita jail tonight. b.a.r.t.'s general manager insists the system is safe. >> and i just want to reassure the public that b.a.r.t. is a

>> but even at this early age parents here worry whether fremont can continue to be a great place to raise a family. >> i hope they have a childhood like i had growing up, being able to play with kids on the block, being able to, you know, have friends in the neighborhood. >> reporter: though fremont is the bay area's fourth largest city growing up here feels much smaller. >> fremont has expanded but i still feel like i'm a small town girl. >> reporter: he's looking forward to the next chapter, heading to college and out of fremont. >> in some ways i feel like we are a bubble community. i feel like we don't have the same hardships in other communities across the nation. >> reporter: she wants to get out of that bubble but doesn't rule out coming back. >> coming back to fremont after a couple of years of exploring the world will be an option for me. >> reporter: the big question is how much longer will she be

here? >> if everything goes right hopefully less than six months. >> he's now looking to leave because he can't afford to stay. >> i love fremont. i've made lifelong friends in my time here. i became the person i am here. but as with most of the bay area fremont is not what it was 10, 12, 15 years ago. >> reporter: according to recent data real estate has skyrocketed appreciating nearly 60%. the median price of a home in fremont is now over $1.1 million. for many of people like sammy that puts ownership out of reach. >> i'd love to buy a house. i've always believed that's how you kind of secure your own future, how you build your family and you have that stability. >> reporter: until he can afford to buy a home, he's been renting this house in north fremont. sammy admits he's getting a good deal for a three bedroom two bathhouse. he pays $2300 a month.

similar homes in this neighborhood are renting for $3300. real estate site zillow zillow estimates houses in this neighborhood sell for $3 million. >> they were not necessarily mansions, right, but they were large. >> reporter: the reality is you are renting a million dollar house. do you feel like a millionaire? >> no, definitely not. >> reporter: sammy tells me he doesn't want to leave the bay area. he's held out as long as he can. >> i'm the last one of my friends still here. we had a large group of friends from high school that they graduated. the closest one, there's only one left is in castro valley. >> sammy will soon be joining his friends as someone who used to live in fremont. >> there are a lot of people here that are struggling. >> reporter: he's planning to move out of the bay area. in fremont, abc 7 news.
