and ice, and take a look. more than 50 cars caught in a pileup overnight in colorado. >> those storms are moving right into, yes, the holiday week and rob is starting us off with the latest. everybody wants to know the path and timing of this. >> very active pattern shaping up, t.j., and this is that scene outside of denver, along i-25, 50-car pileup, a mixture of freezing rain and snow and injuries with this but nothing life-threatening thank goodness. a lot starting their holiday travel and this storm in the west will be move towards the east quite rapidly over the weekend so let's zoom into what's happening in the northeast where it will ramp up come sunday so with this will be a lot of heavy rain across the southeast, mid-atlantic as well, come sunday we're looking at heavy rain along the i-95 corridor. if you are traveling up 87, i think you'll turn into mountain snow in the catskills and berkshires maybe accumulating in the green and white mountains of interior new england but heavy rain from new york up through new haven and boston sunday.

we look ahead towards next week, an active pattern is developing. whenever you get the jet stream to dip down like it does here in the west, and snow and another storm thanksgiving day in the middle of the country, and this one heads towards the northeast by sunday. very active. george, over to you. >> thanks, rob. to washington now and the latest on the impeachment showdown as it braces for a likely trial one of the most compelling witnesses yet closed out two weeks of marathon hearings. fiona hill slammed the president's pressure campaign on ukraine saying she predicted this is going to blow up. senior congressional correspondent mary bruce is tracking it all from capitol hill. good morning, mary. >> reporter: good morning, george. well, fiona hill said it was her moral obligation to come before congress, and in blunt testimony she detailed how the president and his allies have undercut official foreign policy and warned that they are being driven by conspiracy theories pushed by the russians. it was a dramatic end here to three days of high-stakes hearings. the week's final witness, fiona hill, a former russia expert on the national security council came to congress with a stark

warning for republicans. >> some of you on this committee appear to believe that russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country and that perhaps somehow for some reason ukraine did. this is a fictional narrative that is being perpetrated and propagated by the russian security services themselves. i would ask that you please not promote political divisive falsehoods to promote russian interests. >> reporter: hill said trump's personal attorney rudy giuliani was selling conspiracy theories straight from putin's playbook and that trump was buying it. >> is it your understanding president trump disregard the advice of his senior officials about this theory and instead listened to rudy giuliani's view? >> that appears to be the case, yes. >> reporter: hill detailed two competing channels of foreign policy that were often directly at odds. republicans pressing her on a tense moment she had with the point man in ukraine, the eu ambassador, gordon sondland.

>> i was upset with him that he wasn't fully telling us about all the meetings he was having, and he said, but i'm briefing the president. i'm briefing chief of staff mulvaney. i'm briefing secretary pompeo, and i've talked to ambassador bolton. he was being involved in a domestic political errand, and we were being involved in national security foreign policy, and those two things had just diverged. >> reporter: hill explained how that domestic political errand later turned into a quid pro quo, that sondland explained the ukrainians would only get a coveted meeting with the president if they announced the investigations trump was demanding. also testifying, david holmes, an american diplomat in ukraine. he says he overheard the president himself on a phone call with sondland discussing the ukrainian president. >> i then heard president trump ask, so he's going to do the investigations? ambassador sondland said, he's going to do it. i have a clear recollection these statements were made. >> reporter: republicans tried to attack hill's credibility. >> dr. hill, you have provided me probably the greatest piece of evidence that's before us to

illustrate the problem with hearsay. >> reporter: but hill pushed back. >> i talked about things i heard with my own ears, what we heard, saw and did and to be of some help to all of you in really making a momentous decision here. >> reporter: after more than 30 hours of public hearings the president's allies say the impeachment inquiry is nothing more than a sham. >> i think the american people see through it. they see that the facts are on the president's side and know this process has been entirely unfair. >> reporter: democrats say the evidence is clear. the president abused his power. >> there is nothing more dangerous than an unethical president who believes they are above the law. we are better than that. >> reporter: now while the hearings were wrapping up over at the white house, they are trying to keep republicans in line and strategize what comes next. the president yesterday met with key republicans including senator mitt romney who has been one of his fiercest critics and later white house officials sat down with other republicans

trying to come up with a game plan to tackle what they believe is a near certain trial in the senate. >> so, mary, let's look at what comes next. it appears the intelligence committee is done and they're not going to call anybody else most likely. this will go to the house judiciary committee. they'll draft up the articles of impeachment after they get a report from the intelligence committee. that goes to the house floor. they're still hoping by the end of the year to vote on impeachment and then comes the senate trial you were talking about, so take us inside the talks between the white house and republicans on how they're thinking about this, how they plan to go forward with the trial. >> reporter: well, george, there does seem to be a little bit of a dispute here. republicans seem divided over the best strategy particularly when it comes to timing. some are advocating for a short trial, perhaps as short as two weeks. the argument there is they're trying to limit the time and may also limit the political damage to the president while others are pushing for a longer, more drawn out process that would give some of these key moderate republicans a chance to show voters that they are taking this

seriously and, george, a longer process could put those senate democrats in a tricky position, those who are running for president, because it could come up against those first early contests. >> the president is torn between wanting this over and wanting to have a full defense mounted by those senators. okay, mary, thanks very much. cecilia. there are also new developments in the race for the white house this morning. former new york city mayor michael bloomberg has just taken a major step toward running for the democratic presidential nomination. linsey davis has more from the bloomberg tower here in midtown manhattan. good morning, linsey. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you, cecilia. okay, so here's the big announcement. the headline basically is that michael bloomberg is officially dipping his toe into the presidential waters. this is just a procedural move and not at all an official announcement, but by filing paperwork with the federal election commission, it officially declares the former new york mayor a candidate for president of the united states and it allows him to raise money for a run for the white house but bloomberg's people are telling abc news this is just one step, not a final decision to run. now, that said, bloomberg has

also filed to appear on the ballot in five states and is spending more than $100 million on ads and voter registration efforts in key states. now, this all reportedly propelled by the billionaire's concerns about if the current front-runners could actually defeat president trump. now, a little bit of trivia for you this morning, i'm sure george already knows this off the top of his head but the last time that this apparent strategy actually worked as far as bypassing the early contests and going on to nab the nomination, 1968 with hubert humphrey. george. >> i hadn't had that at the top of my head. i'm glad you reminded me, linsey. thanks very much. >> no? >> thank you, linsey. we go overseas to israel where prime minister benjamin netanyahu has been indicted facing bribery and fraud charges. he's trying to hold onto his job facing a coup attempt, and james longman has the latest from london. good morning, james. >> reporter: that's right. good morning. one of america's closest allies has been thrown into turmoil. israeli prime minister benjamin

netanyahu has been formally charged with bribery, fraud and breach of trust. he is the first ever sitting israeli prime minister to face such charges and the list of alleged wrongdoing is long and colorful. pink champagne and cigars offered to him by a wealthy friend in return for political favors and a quid pro quo relationship with a telecom tycoon in rieturn for a favorabe news conference. he's vowed to stay in office using perhaps the language of his close ally, donald trump, he's called the investigation a witch-hunt but the corruption allegations against him have bubbled for months and the country's attorney general says the ruling shows no one is above the law. t.j.? >> james, thank you so much. now we turn to a scare on a crowded passenger jet. an international flight forced to make an emergency landing just after takeoff because flames were shooting out of an engine. david kerley has the details. >> reporter: it's the terrifying moment this little girl and her family on board a boeing jet heading from l.a. to the philippines hears the loud bangs.

flames were erupting from the engine, all caught on camera. >> mayday, mayday, philippine, 113, we have an engine surge on the right engine, requesting immediate re-landing. >> reporter: people on the ground catching the dramatic moments as well. >> philippine 113, say the nature of the emergency please. >> right engine. >> reporter: passengers say the engine had bursts of flames on and off for 15 minutes before the airlines landon safely back at l.a.x. 45 minutes after takeoff. firefighters there to meet the plane on the runway. >> i was praying. i was panicking. >> reporter: the problem, this was a compressor stall. it's when the engine essentially backfires like a car. while it's not uncommon, it can be a harrowing experience for everyone on board. very frightening. philippine airlines did not have a replacement aircraft so it tried to book passengers on

other airlines. some stayed in hotels and hope to get to manila today. the controversy over a college professor accused of sending racist and sexist tweets but allowed to keep his job because indiana university says he's protected by the first amendment. diane macedo has the story. >> reporter: this morning, an indiana university professor is facing backlash, accused of sharing racist, sexist and homophobic posts on social media. earlier this month business professor eric rasmusen shared an article on twitter arguing women may be destroying academia and quoted the article, writing in part, geniuses are overwhelmingly male. >> i leaked to an article saying that women were hurting academia but i wasn't saying i agreed with that article. >> reporter: the tweet went viral and the university was inundated with demands that he be removed. >> for professors to have those views and say them so publicly is really kind of disheartening and very, very disappointing.

>> reporter: the school's provost says rasmusen who's been teaching there since 1992 and has tenure has pushed bigoted views on social media for years including women do not belong in the workplace, that gay men should not be permitted in academia because they're promiscuous and that black students are generally inferior academically to white students. she also says he will not be fired. >> we're a public institution and unlike private employers, we're bound by the first amendment of the constitution. >> reporter: but rasmusen is now speaking out saying his views are being misrepresented and his critics are overreacting. >> if they're offended, that's their problem. basically i listen to arguments about why they disagree with me but just saying i'm offended doesn't impress me. >> reporter: the university says students will be given options to avoid his class and processes will be put in place to ensure there's no bias in his grading. the professor says he's viewing the whole thing as a learning experience. >> for a lot of people. >> thanks, diane. we'll turn to the growing crisis over prince andrew. one of his alleged victims speaking out overnight after, of course, that announcement that

he is stepping back from public duties as the firestorm grows over his relationship with sex offender jeffrey epstein. maggie rulli has the latest from buckingham palace. good morning, maggie. >> reporter: good morning, cecilia. this decision is unprecedented. there's no rulebook for how the royal family is supposed to respond. right now they are simply on damage control. it has been all hands on deck here at buckingham palace. overnight prince andrew spotted leaving buckingham palace. earlier in the day the queen's second son waving at cameras seen publicly for the first time since announcing he's stepping back from his royal duties following what's widely been described as a disastrous interview about his relationship with former friend and convicted sex offender jeffrey epstein. >> you were staying at the house -- >> yes. >> -- of a convicted sex offender. >> it was a convenient place to stay. >> reporter: the royal family having what british papers are calling a crisis summit thursday. andrew's ex-wife sarah ferguson seen driving into the palace as well. >> we are now seeing the royal family hold meetings, hold discussions.

there's going to be a lot of discussions that have to take place to work out how to move forward. >> reporter: andrew is now reportedly backing out of a planned work trip to bahrain this weekend as charities and businesses continue to distance themselves from the royal. overnight one of epstein's accusers, virginia giuffre who claimed in past court filings that ghislaine maxwell recruited her when she was just 16 and groomed her to have sex with several of epstein's powerful friends including prince andrew, reacting to the news. her attorney telling abc news, prince andrew's recent interview and his subsequent action to withdraw from public life is welcomed news. however, going on to say, more needs to be done due to what they call his central role in devastating the lives of countless women. andrew who says he has no recollection of having ever met giuffre and categorically denies her allegations. andrew and maxwell both deny all of giuffre's allegations. both have not been charged with a crime. andrew says he has no

launching in 1995 it helped kick off the careers of fashion powerhouses like heidi klum and tyra banks, but after two decades, the victoria's secret fashion show is over. the brand's parent company pulling the plug on the televised annual event according to "forbes" during an earnings call. the company saying they plan to evolve the messaging and cut back on costly marketing events. over the years, the brand has been under an increasing amount of scrutiny for their lack of inclusivity with former angels, citing flaws within the company. last year supermodel karlie kloss telling "vogue," i didn't feel it was an image that was truly reflective of who i am and the kind of message i want to send to young women around the world about what it means to be beautiful. and just last week, former angel bella hadid saying she felt the most confident during rihanna's fenty show. >> when i first did fenty, i was doing other -- there's other

lingerie shows and i never felt powerful on a runway like in my underwear. >> reporter: the elle brand senior level executives have been under fire. the ceo facing an onslaught of criticism for his relationship with sex offender jeffrey epstein. later saying he was, quote, embarrassed and deceived and adding, my trust in him was grossly misplaced. and former senior executive ed razek explaining why trans women are not on the angel roster, telling "vogue," it's, like, why doesn't your show do this? shouldn't you have transsexuals in the show? no, no i don't think we should. well, why not? because the show is a fantasy. he added that the reason the brand doesn't endorse plus size models either is because, quote, we attempted to do a television special for plus sizes in 2000. no one had any interest in it. still don't. he later apologized calling his comments insensitive. >> the victoria's secret fashion

beauty, and a lot of other brands in the marketplace right now aren't doing that, and they are having ad campaigns that don't show photoshopped models or that have plus sized models. >> ratings for the show have plummeted as well. last year's were the lowest since they started televising it and the company's sales also struggling, almost 40 stores closed this year alone. customers are turning to other brands that seem to resonate with them. it's not that customers aren't buying these products anymore. it's just they're not buying from victoria's secret anymore. >> thanks, paula. we turn now to an american couple fighting to get back home. they say they're being held hostage in mexico in, of all places, a hospital. our will reeve here with us now and say they're not able to pay the bill and the hospital not letting them go. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, t.j. stephen johnson and tori austin were on a cruise vacation off the coast of mexico when stephen had a medical emergency. doctors saved his life but now the couple says they have got this huge bill and the hospital

won't let them leave. this morning, an american couple says they're trapped in a mexican hospital, being held against their will over an unpaid medical bill. >> they locked the windows so we couldn't open up the windows and so far we just can't leave until this $14,000 bill is paid. >> reporter: stephen johnson and fiancee tori austin say they were vacationing on a carnival cruise when just two days after the start of the cruise, stephen needed medical attention. >> he was diagnosed with diabetes, pancreatitis and an acute kidney infection. at that time his blood sugar was at a 900. >> reporter: on board the ship the couple says they received excellent care, but his condition was serious. officials told them that once they docked in the mexican city of progresso stephen would need be to taken to the hospital. after spending three days in intensive care, the couple says they were slapped with a $14,000 bill and allege the hospital won't let them leave until they

pay. >> the plan is to pay the bill. it's not to skip out on the bill. you know, they saved his life. his life is more than $14,000. >> reporter: tori says she offered to pay $7,000 up front and then work out an installment plan to pay the rest when they got back home to atlanta. >> the bleeding, this is one of the areas i was attacked. >> reporter: the couple claims johnson was injured when hospital administrators physically kept them from walking out of the building. >> we tried to leave tuesday but we were physically assaulted by the administrative staff. they physically were pushing on him. >> reporter: abc news reached out to the hospital and has yet to receive a response. the couple has been in contact with u.s. officials who could only give them a list of lawyers. carnival says they are not in a position to comment on personal matters related to passenger health or financial arrangements regarding treatment but that their care team is providing support. probably also pays to get that

health insurance, travel protection. >> never heard of such -- >> wild story. >> thank you. we're going to turn to the "20/20" exclusive. natalee holloway's mother back on the island where she disappeared 15 years ago. deborah roberts is here with what she learned. good morning. >> good morning, george. so many of us remember this story. beth holloway has lived every parent's worst nightmare. the disappearance of her teen daughter and the wrenching realization that she may never know what happened to her. it's a journey she hasn't much wanted to revisit until now. beth holloway stands on the shores of aruba. it looks like paradise, but this is where her world fell apart. abc news has brought her back to the island. >> this is where natalee's life ended but this was not her life. >> reporter: nearly 15 years after her daughter natalee disappeared while on a senior class trip back in 2005. >> i helped her get her bag out of the car and kissed her good-bye. never could i have imagined.

shared her recent miscarriage on "dancing with the stars." kimberly is revealing ho it was saying she nearly died and abc's paula faris has the story. >> reporter: this morning, kimberly van der beek revealing harrowing new details about her most recent miscarriage that left her almost on the brink of death. >> in, you know, 48 hours we lost our baby boy and i almost lost my life. >> reporter: kimberly saying on instagram she's now returning to health but the miscarriage has left her weak. >> i'm healing. i'm definitely healing. just taking it super easy, trying to restore and build my blood. >> reporter: she's the wife of actor james van der beek who opened up with this heart-rending revelation on monday night's "dancing with the stars." that night a tearful james expressing his anguish in the ballroom. the couple who are already parents to five children have been through several

miscarriages before. james saying back in october, miscarriage, a word that needs a replacement, nobody failed to carry, these things sometimes happen is something that people rarely talk about and often go through in secret. there needs to be zero shame around it or around giving yourself the time and space to grieve. >> dr. ashton joins us now. one of the details there, she was actually due in april. relatively late for a miscarriage. >> yeah, it is, but first of all, that's a lay term. that's not the medical term. the medical term is spontaneous abortion meaning the pregnancy just ended and can happen in any trimester, much more common in the first. it's estimated that as many as one in four pregnancies can end this way. but it is -- it's a major loss and as we're hearing it absolutely can be a life-threatening emergency. >> that hemorrhage was serious. how long does it take for the blood it build back up? >> with each advancing trimester there is more blood flow so the risk of hemorrhage goes up depending upon whether or not

has gotten a blood transfusion, if you lose a liter of blood as an adult woman that's considered a postpartum hemorrhage. and whether you get transfused or not will determine how quickly you feel better. if you don't and you're left still profoundly anemic it can take two to six weeks for your body to remake new red blood cells. >> one aspect of feeling better. how about the emotional aspect? >> that's the hardest part, george. there is no question. we hear this over and over again but it cannot be talked about enough. this is a major loss for both partners. the grief can be profound. i think people need to know it's nothing they did or didn't do. it's no one's fault. they're not alone. plenty of people know exactly what they're going through and the emotional part is actually more difficult to heal than the physical. >> important reminder. thanks very much. over to t.j. and cecilia. >> thanks so much. we turn to a pretty stunning undercover investigation that reveals racial discrimination in real estate and this was caught on camera. >> this is a really important one. the new york newspaper "newsday"

discovering some minority home buyers received unequal treatment and zachary kiesch has more on this. good morning. >> reporter: yeah, cecilia. good morning to you as well. the only color that should matter when buying a house is green, right? do you have the money? but this comprehensive investigation using 25 undercover mock homebuyers was done in an attempt to better understand whether race matters when it comes to potential options homebuyers are getting and the treatment they're given. an undercover investigation by "newsday" found buying a new home may pose a risk of discrimination for nonwhite home buyers in some new york suburbs. >> the risks to african-americans in particular of suffering potential discrimination was about 50/50. >> reporter: reporters working in conjunction with fair housing experts for more than three years, 240 hours of recordings of more than 80 real estate agents. the testers of different races posing as first time home buyers.

one "newsday" tester secretly recorded this real estate agent praising a predominantly minority community when speaking with a black buyer. >> every time i get a new listing in brentwood or new client, i get excited because they're the nicest people. >> reporter: the paper says the agent sent the black buyer numerous listings in brentwood but when a white buyer asked to see homes there, the agent warned him to look into the area's gang violence and never sent him any listings. >> the agent in that situation is obligated to give the same information to both sides for the test. the warning about gangs did not come with the black tester and that's troubling because it should be equal. >> reporter: "newsday" also says its investigation showed evidence of some real estate agents holding minority buyers to stricter financial standards. >> what is your availability? when can you start looking at houses? >> reporter: taking some white testers to see homes without proof of mortgage preapproval but refusing to do the same for

some minorities. >> that means i can't go out to see anything? >> i won't do it. i can try another person, but i don't have the time to do that. >> what we saw from the "newsday" investigation is not unique to long island. it's the kind of practices that we see all across the country. and to realize that we still have this level of discrimination, it's very hurtful. >> in addition to the "newsday" investigation, there are multiple probes into housing discrimination issues happening on long island by new york lawmakers and, you know, as she pointed out there, while this might be the latest iteration, there is a long history of housing discrimination. >> not isolated. what an investigation. zachary, good to see you this morning. cecilia. we'll switch gears to our series, the right fit, where we help you find clothes that look and feel your best. this morning it is all about sports bras, something our becky worley is very passionate about. she helped two women with two

what's the key to hosting this and pulling it off? >> make a plan. make a menu. you don't want three friends up showing up with whipped sweet potatoes. assign dishes. everyone knows what they're bringing. also, this is a time to experiment. you know when you go to mom and dad's, they'll want mom's mashed potatoes and grandma's pie. have fun. this is a dry run for the real thing. every year at real thanksgiving you bring that one dish you know will be a hit and the new thing for the table. >> you said the operative phrase bring the dish. how are you packing it up. >> if you're bringing something to your friendsgiving make sure you're bringing it in the dish you're going to serve it in. you don't want to be that person, hey, do you have a bowl i can borrow? and a serving spoon. you're like, no, i don't. take care of it. also, most importantly, if you're a guest and you want to go home with leftovers, bring your own re-sealable container. i mean, come on. yes. >> bring wine. >> bring wine. when in doubt always bring wine.

that's a given, right? you don't need to pilfer through your friend's cabinets. >> your whole team is there. lara, you'll kick it off. >> we're serving turkey but you got your own twist. >> a few things we want to juicy moist turkey. a barbecue spice rub. >> may i? >> please. >> what am i doing. >> smoked paprika. pink peppercorns. >> yum. >> onion powder. salt. >> i touched the turkey. >> you did? then we're just going to whisk that together then you have your barbecue spice mix. >> love that. so you're doing a dry rub. i'll do a dry sprinkle. >> if you're comfortable i would pat it down. >> she's not comfortable. [ laughter ] >> and once sprinkled let it sit for 24 hours. and after 24 hours it's deeply seasoned and dry run. you let it go for 20 minutes at 425, reduced at 300 then kind of just oil it up.

[ applause ] and then -- >> i've never heard of adding oil after. >> we go with the oil so it browns it evenly. >> crispy. >> you're gloss it with this glaze of soy sauce, orange peel, rosemary. so it's kind of like fragrant, salty a little tangy. >> we'll have the dry rub and that on our website. smells so good. doesn't it, george? >> yes. we're doing mashed potatoes with carla. how do we get started? >> one thing we did, there are a lot of mashed potato recipes and we want to make it better and roasted our potatoes first. >> used the ricer. >> instead of seasoning the water that -- there you go. instead of seasoning the water that you cook your potatoes in we made this awesome mixture of butter, milk, thyme, lemon, garlic, peppercorn and salt so the potatoes get beautifully

seasoned in that while they're getting -- just dump it in there. yeah. and then we had to guild the lilly a little bit and the thing i love about mashed potatoes how luscious and creamy they are but what's missing is a little something crispy, crunchy and came up with bread crumbs, potato chips and that goats all toasted up and seasoned with paprika. thyme, lemon zest, and when it comes out like this, hit it with a little parsley. >> yeah. >> all right. we goto dressing or stuffing. what is it called. all right. >> stuff. >> we're making dressing today. let's get started here. >> so we're doing a cornbread and corn nut stuffing. >> corn nut. come on now. >> i'm from texas and i feel
