>> announcer: news to build a better bay area. this is "abc 7 mornings." good morning, everyone. it is sunday, november 24th. i'm liz kreutz. i hope you're all having a great weekend. let's start with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, liz. temperatures are just coming out of the 30s. live doppler 7 is clear. the golden gate bridge as well, with 50 downtown. numbers in the mid-50s across the bay. redwood city still in the 40s. 55 in half moon bay, you had a morning low of 39. pier 39 has more 40s and 50s. certainly that sunshine warming us up a bit out of that morning chill. we'll look for a beautiful day today with numbers above average. right now, a little cooler than yesterday, five to ten degrees among average. emeryville, widespread 60s.

a brief offshore wind event coming tomorrow, liz. >> thanks, lisa. developing news out of the south bay, san jose police are looking for the person who fired shots into a home with the residents inside. it happened just before 10:30 last night on cape buffalo drive. officers found damage to the home and cars that were, quote, struck by various projectiles. no one inside the home was hurt. police have not identified any suspects. firefighters in contra costa county have contained a small grass fire in martinez. flames were spotted just after 11:00 last night near john swett elementary school. there were reports of fireworks going off in the area prior to the flames starting. the cause of the fire is under investigation. neighbors in union city are morning the loss of two young boys who were shot and killed in a school parking lot. it happened early yesterday morning. police are still searching for the suspects.

the deaths mark the first two homicide in union city this year. abc 7 news reporter anser ishasn has the details. >> it's obviously terrible for the families. prayers go out. >> reporter: union city police say they got several 911 calls reporting gunshots. when police arrived on scene they found two boys in a marked minivan surgery from gunshot wounds. >> it wasn't just like a few fireworks that usually go off in this neighborhood, they like to do that here. but yeah, it was a very long, long, drawn-out range of shots. >> reporter: the 14-year-old died on scene. the 11-year-old died on the way to the hospital. >> the motive behind why they th t under cts to c contact investigation. >> reporter: crime scene

ral shell casings, hoping it will help determine what kind of weapons were used. this mom, who didn't want to be identified, says her son went to school with one of the boys. the school district says the other boy used to be a student in the district. >> i don't think he's grasped it yet, he's afraid to go outside. >> reporter: community involvement will be critical in solving the case. >> we rely on our community to be our eyes and ears in situations such as this. it's extremely important, their role in this is extremely important. >> union city police have not ruled out the possibility that this may have been gang-related. they're also investigating whether this is related to another shooting that happened wednesday. the school district will offering counseling to students and staff when they return after the thanksgiving break. anser hassan, abc 7 news. we sent this push alert as

we learned more details about the shooting. if you would like alerts like this as the investigation continues, the abc 7 news app is free to download in the app store. at least towed and several suspects detained after sideshow activity in oakland. police say one car was towed for doing doughnuts at international boulevard, then fleeing from police. the department's helicopter followed the car and directed patrols on the ground to the driver. then police say another car was towed and multiple subjects detained as they threw bottles at officers at 66th avenue and coliseum way. oakland police have had extra patrols on duty for the last several weekends to prevent sideshows. a vigil was held to honor the life of a pregnant woman shot and killed. misty smith walton leaves behind two sons, 8 and 11 years old and was 6 months pregnant with a girl. s. the say misty and her husband came outside because her car

alarm was going off, then above were shot. the vigil was held at the same spot where misty was killed. a letter from her sister was read at the vigil. >> our hearts will forever be broken by this senseless tragedy. our communities are suffering from losing their loved ones to gun violence on the streets of oakland. these stories are hurd eard so , it has become the normal. >> misty's husband survived the shooting. police have not provided suspect descriptions. an 18-year-old was unconscious after a drug overdoes. the officers used narcan, a drug new to their toolkit, which reverses the effects of an overdose. abc 7 news reporter luz pena has the dramatic story. >> reporter: one hour into his shift, the officer jumped over this counter to save a life. >> the driver and the brother, the brother said, my brother needs help, my brother needs

help, i think he's dead. >> reporter: officer vega called for backup and began cpr on an unconscious 18-year-old boy. >> the body was very cold. there was no pulse. he was not breathe at all. >> reporter: how was that for you, to try to save someone and you're touching them and noticing they're pretty much gone? >> it's -- it can be hard. it can be hard. but we've got to react. >> reporter: the victim's brother told the officer his brother had had an overdose on cocaine and heroin. this officer ran to the back of his patrol car and grabbed his bag, where he had a dose of narcan. >> we've been trained on this, to issue narcan for these kinds of situations. >> reporter: oakland police have saved five lives in the last 45 days thanks to this training. every field officer carries narcan with them.

800 units were recently donated by highland hospital. >> it's not too often that we ever are in this situation where we can honor officers who save lives and it happens quite often. >> reporter: both officers will be recommended to receive the medal of honor. to them, seeing the victim survive is the biggest reward. >> his brother smiled at me and the first thing he said was thank you, over and over. >> reporter: in oakland, luz pena, abc 7 news. >> in the south bay, several stores inside a san jose strip mall were damaged after a fire broke out just before 5:00 yesterday morning on a building at new berry drive. firefighters found flames burning in bonita clearance and called an alarm to prevent it from spreading. the cleaners along with a p pizzeria had heavy damage. the owners of the clearances believe it was arson.

>> a few days ago someone wanted to break in. they started using fire. we've been in the business for 30 years, my mom and i. we don't have any idea who would cause something like this. >> no businesses were open, and thankfully nobody was hurt. one person has died following a fire at the rossmore community in walnut creek. three units have smoke and water damage. the residents stayed where also overnight. the name of the person who died has not been released and the cause is still under investigation. all day today, b.a.r.t. will be single tracking trains through san francisco as crews work on upgrades. the work zone is between embarcadero and 24th street mission stations. delays could range from 15 to 30 minutes depending on the time of day. it means trains won't make scheduled transfers between richmond and antioch lines.

welcome back. a live look at the golden gate bridge, looking beautiful this morning. the time is 9:13. as part of our efforts to build a better bay area, something we're focused on is food and security, and possible solutions for it. less than a week before thanksgiving, bay area food banks are gearing up and getting ready to help families this holiday. in the south bay, the need for food and cash donations has reached an all-time high. here is abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard with the story. >> reporter: 1,582 pounds donated today. the san jose harley riders group outdid themselves this year, donating a huge amount of turkeys to the second harvest of

silicon valley's food bank donation drive. >> a lot of folks are less fortunate, especially now, so we try to do this every year to give something back. >> reporter: this woman stopped by to drop by a turkey. >> so many homeless people are suffering, in this land of plenty, that is not acceptable. >> reporter: second harvest he's a big goal of collecting 24,000 turkeys this holiday season. >> we're actually serving 10,000 more people every single month. >> reporter: second harvest's ceo says financial donations are down this year by $100,000. but the need is bigger than ever. >> we're serving more and more working people, people who are working at low wage jobs and really struggling to be able to afford their rent and food. >> reporter: outside san jose giants ballpark, more than 4,000 bags of food big given away to folks in need.

convoy of hope partners with south bay churches providing food and supplies. alicia jimenez says the donation will help her growing family. >> i have a little one that's due, so it's a blessing. >> reporter: a helping hand on thanksgiving. cornell barnard, abc 7 news. body camera video shows a man police say is homeless attacking two officers. this happened in sacramento. reporter chris thomas has more. >> reporter: new body cam video shows the moments two sacramento police officers were attacked. [ shouting ] officers are responding to a call about a man who was allegedly threatening to kill someone with a hatchet along i-80 near norwood. police say when they got there, a man threw a large rock at the officers. >> he's in the alleyways running towards norwood. he just threw a rock at me and hit me with it. >> it's chilling when you hear

on the radio your officers are calling for cover. >> reporter: officer justin hanks tells me he's been patrolling for 14 years. watch how it all started. >> is this the person you were having trouble with? >> i don't deal with the police. >> well, you do today. >> are you sure? >> yes. have a seat. put your rock down. put your rock down. >> for real? >> yeah, for real. [ shouting ] >> put it down. >> [ bleep ]. >> reporter: the suspect appears to have been homeless and even released his dog who bit one of the officers. >> it's a scary situation when you just want to get home at night. literally, the hairs on the back of my neck started standing up, the chilling sound of hearing an officer call for cover.

>> get on the ground or i'm going to tase you. >> reporter: even after tasing the suspect, police say he continued to fight with the officers for several minutes until they were eventually able to take him into custody. he's now in the sacramento jail. >>homasrepo bo offers are one was eated and reasedomhetal. a woman was caught on camera burglarizing a popula ice cream shop in san francisco. the incident happened around 2:30 thursday morning at pluck bomb ice cream. the owner said the lockbox was broken and used to enter the story. the woman can be seen entering through the front door then walking over to the register which she later takes. the owner said the woman returned at 4:00 a.m. and went to the back of the store to poke around some more. you can see her there leaving that store. we do have heart breaking

followup about ramon sanders who died friday at age 19. last november while treating the defensive lineman for a broken leg doctors discovered he had bone cancer which recently spread to his lungs. he received an outpouring of support from classmates and teammates and stranger. we're thinking about his friends and family today. this year is the first installation of the microcosmic. it went up near 4th and brannon streets. it's a wind-activated kinetic sculpture mounted on a 40-foot pole created by a bay area artist. this is one of the pieces offard planned for the subway line. the central subway, which has been under construction for years, is expected to finish next year. a conjunction controversy on "wheel of fortune." fans of the show are fuming after a technicality cost a contestant $10,000.

north and a weaker system rides over this area of high pressure bringing us another offshore wind event. a look at san jose, numbers in the 50s. san francisco, 51. 56 in oakland. 41 in the south bay. yesterday's high was 69 in gilroy. another beautiful day today if you like it mild. our roof camera, you can see a bit of haze and good recovery in the north bay from mid-30s this morning to mid-40s right now. 50 in concord, 52 by the delta. lake tahoe, winter storm watch, looking at some snow, from one to two feet expected, really about wednesday into thanksgiving day. a day after we get our rain, the impact of it coming in later on tuesday for most of us. a chilly morning, mild and sunny afternoon today. gusty winds will be arriving late tonight into monday. they be offshore. a cold, weathe pattern sets up

as we get into your tuesday afternoon. winds, look how fast they're moving 7:00 monday morning, 20 to 45 miles per hour along the coast. the colors indicate the strength of the wind, how fast, and the arrow is the direction. they're offshore throughout the day on monday. they'll be from the north bay to the east bay, diablo range, santa cruz mountains. we'll be watching this because it dries out the atmosphere. 30s in the morning, 70s in the afternoon, that's what happens when there's no moisture in the atmosphere. by late tuesday we'll look for our storm impact scale for several days, starting out tuesday with a steady rain late in the day. looks like the afternoon commute, the overnight hours, pretty wet. then perhaps that unstable air behind it providing a chance of thunderstorms. low snow levels. and into thanksgiving, a few

tuesday afternoon, where it's raining in the north bay. as we get into that evening commute, it looks like it's heavier in the north bay, beginning to slip to the south of the golden gate as we get into your wednesday morning. scattered showers. 5:00, wednesday afternoon, we'll still see some showers. that guives you a general idea. this will take us into next weekend. we're looking at a second round of decent rain probably by about saturday night and sunday. today, though, looking at the winter storm watch, getting ready for pre-thanksgiving travel. pretty dangerous if you're headed to the mountains with one to two feet of snow right through the upcoming weekend. back home, though, the warmest day of the week is today with 66 in san mateo, 71 in a little breeze tomorrow,

1:00, we're into the low 60s. this is 4:00, and we'll be dropping back into you the mid-60s. we get our warmest center before sunset at 4:53. we'll be looking at pretty nice night tonight before the winds kick in tomorrow. then the rain. we'll talk about it all, coming up. police in alabama have arrested a suspect accused of shooting and killing a veteran sheriff. the sheriff was killed while responding to a call at a convenes store. 18-year-old william chase johnson was taken into custody after he returned to the same gas station where the shooting happened. sheriff williams was a marine and spent many years in law enforcement including ten years as the sheriff. the democratic presidential field is bigger now with former new york city mayor michael bloomberg officially entering the race this morning. his tv ads are starting to air in some states today. abc news reporter rachel scott has more. >> reporter: former new york

city mayor michael bloomberg announcing he's in the race for president. >> i'm mike bloomberg and i approved this message. >> reporter: dropping $37 million on a tv ad campaign, the largest in the 2020 campaign cycle so far. >> my staff just told me mayor bloomberg is going to put millions of dollars into ads. so am i, tomorrow. no, i'm not. >> reporter: bloomberg eyed a presidential bid ten weeks before the first vote is cast. >> i understand that rich people are going to have more shoes than the rest of us. they're going to have more cars than the rest of us. they'll have more houses. but they don't get a bigger share of democracy. >> reporter: in the fight to beat president trump, sources close to bloomberg say he's concerned no one in the field can get the job done. if he opts in, he not only thinks he can but he's willing to spend as much money as it takes to do it. some democratic candidates are firing back, accusing the billionaire of trying to buy the

election. >> mr. bloomberg to the best of my knowledge has very little grassroots support. democracy needs that billionaires cannot buy elections. >> reporter: at this point in the race some undecided voters were hoping the crowded field would narrow down by now. >> a lot of them have similar positi positions. it's really hard. >> we have candidates out there that are good, don't need anyone else in the race. >> reporter: rachel scott, abc news, washington. supreme court justice ruth bader ginsburg is back home after being discharged from the hospital. the court spokesperson said she was in the hospital after experiencing chills and a fever. ginsburg was evaluated at a hospital in washington, then transferred to hospital in baltimore. she's at home now and doing well. the public policy institute of california found 85% of

californians are concerned about the homeless issue. a majority of those surveyed also backed a proposal that would require cities to provide enough shelter beds for the homeless to sleep indoors. 22 people were killed earlier this year at a walmart in el paso, texas. a 30-foot-tall memorial is made up of pieces that group together to form a massive candle. the grand candela, as it's called, is built on the store's parking lot. >> those who perished and their families will not be forgotten. with this candela memorial, we'll always honor your memory. >> the suspect in the shooting, as you might remember, drove more than ten hours to carry out the attack. he was arrested and has pleaded not guilty to murder charges. prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty. now to singer r. kelly, facing sex abuse charges.

his girlfriend jocelyn savage going online, sharing about their relationship. here is abc news reporter kaylee hartung. >> reporter: this morning, a woman known for being one of r. kelly's girlfriends and publicly defending him, now says she's one of his victims and is ready to reveal her secrets, speaking out against kelly for the first time, saying she's willing to risk it all on the website patreon, which confirms someone by that name owns the account but does not confirm it is this jocelyn savage. she details how he commanded her to call him "master" or "daddy." she says, as one of his victims, i've seen more and heard more. overnight, in another post on patron, she wrote, he told me i

couldn't do stuff without letting him know first. she is now 24 and was 19 when she moved in with kelly, the divide in her family growing as they alleged she was brainwashed by kelly, something she fiercely denied until now. >> sorry about that, we had a bit of a technical difficulty now. leaders with the university of california say they support dropping the s.a.t. and a.c.t. exams from admissions requirements. the chancellor says research points to dropping the exams, that tests are strongly influenced by family income, parent education and race, making the tests unfair. the tests were firstcriz of the admissions scandal.

gm says it will have an electric pickup ready for market by the fall of 2011. the announcement was made during an investor meeting on thursday. this is all part of a greater battle in the automotive industry for electric vehicles. gm plans to bring 20 different electric vehicles to market by 2023 and build thousands of charging stations across the country. ford is also developing an electric pickup truck. until then, orders for tesla's cyber truck are coming on in. tesla's ceo elon musk tweeted out new munumbers. he said there have been 146,000 orders so far had the the truck's base model starts at $39,000. the unveiling of the cyber truck did not go as planned. musk was touting the truck's shatter proof windows. they cracked during a live demonstration despite holding up in earlier tests. still ahead on "abc 7 mornings," we're just hours away from the american music awards. and no performance is getting

in the east bay, an oakland church will continue a holiday season tradition of giving back today. taylor memorial united methodist church will hold a feast for the homeless. green beans, ham, cake, and pie along with turkey will be surfed. you can donate items and volunteer for today's meal if you want. it started at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 3:00 at the church on 12th street in oakland. i guess it's time to start getting our ingredients to start cooking this week. >> it feels so mild out there right now, you and i were out there earlier, it is freezing.

let's head back to singer r. kelly who is facing sex abuse charges. his girlfriend, as we told you, is going online sharing details about their relationship. here is abc news reporter kaylee hartung with what she's saying this morning. >> reporter: this morning, a woman known for being one of r. kelly's girlfriends and publicly defending the disgraced musician, now saying she's one of his victims and ready to reveal her secrets. joycelyn savage is speaking out against kelly for the first time, saying she's willing to risk it all on the website patreon, a paid website platform. patreon confirms someone with that name owns the account but doesn't confirm that it's this joycelyn savage. she describes how their relationship started getting

worse day by day. she says, as his victim i've seen more and heard more. overnight, in another post on patreon, she writes, he told me i couldn't do certain stuff without telling him first. joycelyn, now 24, was 19 years old when she moved in with kelly. the divide in the family growing deeper as her parents alleged kelly brainwashed joycelyn and kept her against her will, claims joycelyn fiercely denied but is confirming now. >> reporter: with robert in jail, does that give you any solace that she is safer than she was before he went to jail? >> i believe one of the primary reasons that she has the courage to speak up is because he is actually in jail. >> reporter: kelly is currently in jail awaiting trial on charges of sexually abusing women and underage girls.

a live look outside from mt. tam. hazy, a stagnant ridge of high pressure overhead with very light winds and relatively dry relative humidity. that has allowed for temperatures to once again early this morning dip into the 30s. once this system moves in, we're going to see overnight lows in the 20s in some areas. another mild afternoon ahead. then the wind arrives for tomorrow. those strong offshore winds.wind it looks like we'll end the scenario with the rain beginning on tuesday. an end to the rainy season. even though winter is a month away, it will feel like it. 54 in novato with some 40s, a big improvement from the mid-30s earlier. santa rosa and napa, 51 in san jose. and a live look outside. you can see just a little bit of a breeze there. certainly a cold start out there. but by the afternoon, it is nice and mild. enjoy it.

getting even drier into tomorrow. quickly ends on tuesday. first wave of rain will bring about a half inch to three-quarters inch. the rest of the week, a little here and there allowing for totals to add up to perhaps an inch in the city and parts of the east bay. we talked about the snow totals, it's about time, right, upwards of 24 to 26 inches in parts of the mountains. so a good start for those folks, while back home, we're another five to ten degrees above average today. it was beautiful at the beach yesterday. today, mid-60s half moon bay. upper 60s to near 70 in santa cruz. 67, san jose. low 70s in santa rosa. tonight, sunday night football, where weki forward to another win. the temperatures are dropping through the 50s, it should be a nice night there in santa clara. the accuweather seven-day forecast, looking forward to the rain. but it looks like the timing will give us a dry thanksgiving. and then more rain into next
