now. a lot of people already have. this is a hardware store where they say weather proof gear is flying off the shelves. they've sold out of tarps. quite a contrast when they were selling stuff to help people with their power outages. now people are getting ready for the rain. at the christmas tree lots looking on the bright side saying the rain will help their christmas trees stay fresh and they're happy that they're not talking about power outage right now. >> we're happy we don't have to worry about the power outages. we live on bare minimal out here. the little bit of electricity we have really helps. >> reporter: public works crews are busy clearing all the leaves out of the streets. so many have fallen in the last few days. they don't want them in creek channels, storm drains, so they're trying to get those cleared out. also asking people not to blow their leaves out onto the streets because that's where they will end up.

bag them and get them up and out. they will have crews on standby ready to go and to help out with any issues that pop up because of the rain. reporting live from the relative mond bridge, amy hollyfield. and speaking of potential issues, pg&e says crews are ready for storm related power outages. the company will activate its emergency operations centers. those centers will direct crews to outage areas to restore power as soon as possible. and pg&e reminds customers to have flashlights with fresh batteries ready to go if the power goes off. also, unplug any sensitive electronics in case there's a power surge. >> 4:31 and if you're joining us a quick update on weather and traffic where you live starting with mike. >> let's talk about the winds. a wind advisory coming out of the south to southwest different than normal. we normally have a wind advisory for winds in the north. other areas than what would

normally be affected will be touched by the winds up to 50 miles an hour. downed trees, power lines, more debris flying around in these winds, more that could cause flooding later on. you can see everything converging on the cold front as it starts to come in. up to near 40 miles an hour in the north bay. and this is during the evening commute when it's going to be raining rather heavily. plus a high surf advisory at 7:00 through 3:00 tomorrow afternoon but, wait, i have more after jobina. wildfire season is not over yet. i'm watching a new fire forcing evacuations right now in santa barbara county this morning. look at the new video coming in here. the cave fire started yesterday afternoon and is burning near the los padres national forest. firefighters said within a

matter of hours the fire quickly grew to 3,300 acres. high winds started at least two spot fires in the area. >> i made a quick run downhill being pushed by the 15, gusting to 30-mile-an-hour winds, some spots even higher. >> firefighters are holding on to hope the chance of rain tonight will help them gain control of this fire. i'll continue to track the situation and bring you the updates throughout the morning. reggie and kumasi? >> thank you, jobina. if you have a thanksgiving flight to denver or the midwest this morning, you should get ready for delays. the storm system that made it windy here is causing travel trouble this morning. >> a live look at sfo where several flights to denver have been canceled. 18 inches of snow could fall before the current storm system moves on. here is abc news reporter kenneth mouton. >> reporter: more than a foot of snow is possible just as the thanksgiving travel rush begins.

denver's airport is expecting nearly 200,000 travelers today alone, a record 31.6 million passengers expected to fly nationwide over the holiday. >> it's the double whammy, weather and the holiday. >> reporter: it will spread to the midwest today where people are preparing for thanksgiving dinner early. >> i have chains for my car. >> wine. >> lots of wine. and a bulldozer. >> sounds like you're set. >> reporter: back east in new york rehearsals under way for the macy's thanksgiving day parade. the big question remains, will the famous balloons be grounded when gusts are expected to reach 40 miles an hour thursday which would be enough to ground them for the first time since 1971. kenneth mouton, nbc news, new york. several airlines are letting travelers flying through denver international change their itinerary for free. they include american, delta, southwest and united.

change fees will be waived for people flying from today through friday. now to the chaos inside a california mall. two young men were shot forcing shoppers to run for their lives. this scene was caught on cell phone video. bakersfield police say it started as a fight between two groups last night. the victims are 15 and 20 years old and are expected to be okay. a worker at the mall said she heard at least 20 shots. >> they told us to duck down. we're really going to get shot up. we were scared. i thought we weren't going to go home. >> the mall was placed on lockdown while police searched store by store for the shooter. police hope surveillance video will help. a rally to demand justice for two men shot and killed by police. family members of eric reason will join the justice coalition of vallejo for this rally. an off-duty richmond police

officer shot him earlier this month after an argument over a parking space. family members of foster will also be at the rally today. foster was shot and killed by a vallejo officer last year. the rally starts at 1:00 outside the solano county d.a.'s office. in the east bay an innocent bystander is in the hospital after a robbery that ended in a shoot-out. abc 7 news caught the aftermath on grand avenue in oakland. police say two men walked into the store just before 10:00 yesterday morning. they grabbed about $60,000 worth of goods and took off. the owner grabbed a gun and followed the robbers. >> i said, hey, stop. i pointed the gun at him and he turned and pointed at me and shot at me. so i shot twit at him. >> police say a bullet from the shoot-out went in a house and hit someone inside. that person is expected to

talk about what's going on in the sierra today. yellow caution because the snow will increase this afternoon. absolutely would not travel there tomorrow. it is going to be whiteout conditions with windy, heavy snow. better thursday and friday as the snow tapers a little bit. saturday and sunday it will snow heavily again. 10:00 today, this morning through 4:00 wednesday, above 2,000 feet, maybe a foot in lake county.

we have another two to three feet of snow coming saturday and sunday. nearly seven feet ofno in the sierra by sunday. opponents trying to stop a navigation center near oracle park are evaluating options after another legal setback. the city says it's moving forward and expects the center to open by the end of next month. there was backlash after a homeless man attacked a woman near that location. opponents challenged the approval process. a san francisco supervisor is asking the city to fund ten 24-hour bathrooms. the public toilets are part of the pit stop program. over the summer three public bathrooms were kept open for 24 hours as part after pilot program. the supervisor says that's not enough. the mayor's office says it's using existing to keep them open.

yoga studios around the bay area are now having to step up their security. a thief has been stealing from customers. abc 7 news reporter chris reyes has the story from berkeley. >> reporter: this is the man berkeley police are looking for, christopher damon newton from oakland after he allegedly stole personal belongings at a yoga studio in downtown berkeley in september. police believe he's hit several other studios around the bay area. it's something kelly johnson is concerned about. her studio, hella yoga, was hit by theft also in september. police have not confirmed if newton is also the suspect. >> it's devastating and it's unfortunate because we're hit by a professional, they know what they are doing and we had no clue when the gentleman came here. >> reporter: he came in, pretended to sign up for a yoga class and took off with her

clients' belongings. the person who was robbed at this studio then offered to build these cubbies to help with security. that's how much he loves practicing here. >> my wallet, my phone, my car keys, basically everything. >> reporter: the incident has not stopped him from coming back. he just makes sure to lock up his belongings. >> i'm happy doing yoga. it's good for me. >> reporter: the studio also locks up during class and keeps this security camera running. >> let this be a lesson learned. keep working out. >> reporter: police are asking anyone with information on newton to call berkeley police. >> that's just wrong. >> i know. >> you think that's a safe space. our approaching storm could cause problems for drivers who haven'tmonths. >> yes, the first big rain of the year means extra slick pavement so abc 7 news went to a driving expert to get some vice.
