rainy and wet evening commute. tens of millions of people are bracing for severe weather just before the thanksgiving holiday. good morning on this tuesday, november 26. >> of course you're never more than seven minutes away from the accuweather forecast. mike has been tracking the rain. it is almost here. >> it's going to change rapidly as we head into the afternoon hours. it's going to be a hard 2, a moderate storm. an exclusive scale to let you know what to expect. up to an inch of rain is possible. some other things, the flash flood watch today across the north bay. the fastest winds from 4:00 this afternoon to 4:00 tomorrow morning. trees, power lines, a lot of debris in the roads with the

rain. plus it's king tides today which means some flooding. right now the winds are 24 on tam. heavy rain this afternoon and evening. jobina? >> thank you, mike. a live look in walnut creek. things are looking good, moving smathly this morning. we aren't expecting the commute to look that great tomorrow. a live look now in oakland. this is one of our new cameras. the headlights are heading south near the coliseum, this camera. to mass transit. we have the ferries, no delays. b.a.r.t., no delays either. 43 trains running right now. ace 1, 3 and 5 all on time as well. and also just want to give a quick update for our commuter

alert monday, tuesday, wednesday and friday. expect there to be some b.a.r.t. train cancellations in the morning. less trains in the evening as well because of lower ridership but they will increase the trains headed to sfo and the oakland airport because of the commuter and travel week for the holiday. if you are heading to lake tahoe for the holiday, cal transhas a warning for you. avoid the sierra tonight and tomorrow. crews will be working around the clock with snowplows and blowers to clear the roads. they need your help. >> check tires. winter washer fluid, plenty of gas. dress warm. plan for delays. >> they urge anyone who is driving to have an emergency kit in their car that includes water, food, and first aid supplies. and they ask that you please slow down on the roads because they will be wet. reggie and kumasi? >> jobina, thank you. we are following breaking news out of the south bay. in the last hour a death investigation has been launched.

>> reporter lauren martinez is live with this story. good morning, lauren. >> reporter: good morning. the focus on this investigation is behind me. officers have been scoping out this vehicle since we've been here looking inside with their flashlights checking it out. when we zoomed in with our camera we could actually see bullet holes on the car. they have shut down this intersection between 7th and 9th streets. the video you are looking at shows what i'm trying of officers checking the vehicle out and earlier this morning an armored truck arrived and that approached the vehicle as well. just to give you perspecve o where we're at.

it will be closed until about 10:00 a.m. we will bring you any updates as they become available. abc 7 news, lauren martinez. developing news for the fourth time in less than a week, some type of projectile hit a vehicle in monterey county. this happened near san juan road yesterday and this is the 42nd incident in the area since february. a car was hit on saturday. no one was hurt in last night's case. >> we look back and saw a hole in the left passenger side of the window shattered. >> projectiles hit two other vehicles on friday including a bus of football players.

the chp is not sure what is hitting the cars but say it is not gunfire. >> two pedestrians were killed by cars in san jose within just six hours. a man was hit near avenue and another at quimby and south white roads. >> both are streets the city has identified as priority corridors for san jose. >> safety advocates are pushing for change. 52 pedestrians have died in san jose. city transportation officials say there's often a spike in deadly crashes in the fall and winter because there's daylight and the weather gets worse. the city recently launched fighhe spi campaign. a man in jail accused of threatening people at the san francisco state library. a witness told police the man walked in and said he was going

to shoot up and blow up the library. this was just after 3:00 yesterday afternoon. the library was evacuated as police arrested the man and investigated a duffel bag he brought in. there were no explosives inside. students are off for thanksgiving this week but the library will be back open today. >> famed san francisco bakery tartine reopened after a rodent infestation. in a post on instagram the bakery apologized for letting down their customers for not holding themselves to the highest level of cleanliness. they say they've been dealing with ongoing setbacks of operating in an older building. the bakery shut down on friday after a failed health inspection and found mice droppings in a prep room and on top of bags of flour. another break-in that caused hundreds of dollars in damage. the type of parking lots thieves are targeting. >> a new investigation reveals

let's take a look at our micro climates and try to time the rain. we'll warm from 36 this morning to mid-50s by 11:00. then the rain is heavier this afternoon, we drop down to 49. anytime you see dry in the morning there could be a rogue shower or two. we're seeing the steadiest of the rain on the peninsula at 1:00 and getting heavier as the temperatures drop from 53 to 50. we're dry through noon. a few showers around 1:00. heaviest as we drop down to 49 degrees. barely 50 and back with the heaviest of the rain for you right during the lunch hour and a few hours after that. 52 at 11:00.

steady rain after that. we warm up to 53 at 11:00. from noon on we have light and then heavy rain on the way. we are following breaking news from the nation's capital. pictures of the white house and the u.s. capitol as well on the right-hand side of your screen there. right now both locations are on lockdown. this is because of an inbound aircraft in the air right now. just so you have some background here, most aides on capitol hill are not even at the capitol because of the thanksgiving holiday. senator mitch mcconnell's office is closed this week. we're continuing to gather more information on the story. we will bring you the very latest. just so you have a time frame

captured on camera, a suspect seen breaking into this tesla model three. this happened thursday night in front of a restaurant off el camino real. poe lows say thieves are hitting up large parking lots like these near freeways and expressways because it's easy for them to escape. police are adding extra patrols as people get their shopping done. it is crunch time for amazon employees during the holiday shopping season and new reports are raising concerns about work place city.

there. and a look at your planner. i was 32 when i left the house this morning to 44 at the coast. the rain gets heavier this afternoon and evening. over to jobina. how is the morning commute? >> looking good so far for the most part. i do want to let people know we'll be traveling in and out of the north bay. the chp is reporting the traffic lights are not working at the robin williams tunnel. that's something to be aware of. to the south bay we have san jose 280 beginning to fill in right now. no issues reported down there. looking at our drive times now. antioch to hercules. highway 85 to the airport ten minutes. >> few people will be more relieved than those in the north bay.

they've been hit with fire and the threat of fire. >> hopefully this is the end of all of that. people are all ready for the rain. >> reporter: going to hit here first. leaves could clog our storm drains so don't push them out here to the street. crews have been working hard to get them out of the way. they are trying to clear the storm drains and the creek channels to prevent a big backup, any flooding. residents busy trying to get their homes ready. hardware stores have seen a rush of customers looking for protective gear. >> they're definitely prepping up for it, all sorts of tarps, rain gear, you name it. everyone is coming in last minute for it.

>> the tarp to cover the furniture. >> reporter: smart people. workers at christmas tree lots say their trees will welcome the rain. this will help keep them fresh and happy. happy christmas trees. the workers are happy we're not talking about a pg&e power shutoff. that's what they were worried about. so they will welcome this rain. it is expected to hit here in the north bay first. this will be the first rain we have seen since may. reporting live, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thanks, amy. pg&e says that its crews are ready for storm related power outages. the company will activate its emergency operations centers. the centers will direct crews to outage areas and restore power as soon as possible. have flashlights and radios with fresh batteries ready if the power does go out. also, unplug any sensitive electronics in case there's a power surge when you get your electricity back. the best way to track the rain

is with live doppler 7 and you can access it on your phone through the abc 7 news app. download it now so you are ready before the rain arrives. jobina? >> thanks, kumasi. wildfire season is not over yet. i'm tracking a brand-new fire here that's forcing evacuations in santa barbara county this morning. the cave fire started yesterday afternoon. this is new video in the los padres national forest. firefighters said within hours the fire grew to 3,300 acres. high winds started at least two spot fires in the area. firefighters hope with the chance of rain tonight that will hopefully help gain control of the fire. reggie? >> i certainly hope so. police are still searching for the person who opened fire inside a bakersfield mall and wounded two young men. the gunfire was captured on a witness' cell phone. >> run, run, run. >> police say it started as a fight betwee s are 15 and 20 ye

old. they are expected to be okay. the mall was placed on lockdown while police searched store by store for the shooter. police hope store surveillance video will help identify the suspect. in fair field demanding justice for two men shot and killed by police. family members of eric reason will join the justice coalition of vallejo. an off-duty police officer shot him after an argument over a parking space. family members of foster will be at the rally today. he was shot and killed by a vallejo officer last year. the rally starts at 1:00 this afternoon. yoga studios are stepping up security. thieves have been stealing from customers in at least three counties. 2-year-old christopher damon newton from oakland. police say he stole personal belongings at a yoga studio in

>> reporter: the car at the center of this death investigation is still here at the scene. you can see the dark gray car and a group of officers surrounding it with flashlights. they've been scoping out the car, looking inside. you could see that there were bull holes on the car. there was an armored truck that came by the car, too. officers have been looking into it. we don't know more information at this point. they have shut down the intersection east santa clara street between 7th and 9th streets will be blocked off in both directions until 10:00 a.m only a block away from san jose

revealed its massive layoffs. juul will eliminate 245 workers in the bay area. juul announced they would cut 650 positions worldwide. they turn to lobbying officials to stop bans on vaping. >> you can see we are starting up now by about two points. our approaching storm could cause problem for drivers. >> extra slick pavement so we went to a driving expert to get advice. he demonstrated what to do if your car enters a slide or even a deep puddle at freeway speeds. >> try to cut through it straight.

flooding on the roads. debris flows in the kincade fire, all high. moderate. can you see the low starting to take shape. this is a bomb cyclone that's developing so rapidly we had to name it a bomb, so this will arrive a little bit earlier than what we were showing earlier. about an hour, hour and a half earlier. everything is fine. there may be a stray shower in the north bay, by noon, light to moderate. the rest of us a stray shower possible and then look what happens, that moderate rain moves over the rest of us by 4:00 with the downpours. the reds moving into the north bay at 4:00. guess where it goes for the heart of the commute, right into the heart of the bay at 5:30. 7:00 sitting right on top of the san mateo bridge. down to around 2,500 feet.

we're talking already a half inch to three-quarters of an inch. that's how fast and intense this rain is coming down and even sideways at times. a mix of showers, thunderstorms. snow levels down to 2,000 feet by thursday. decreasing showers from north to south thursday afternoon. friday freezing cold in the morning and more wet weather saturday, sunday and monday. jobina? >> i want to start off with this crash we are following in hayward between a motorcyclist and one car. this is southbound 880. we do know that the left two lanes are blocked. check out the map here. you see that red line that extends from the san mateo bridge and is meeting up with 880 there. two backups running into each other. i'll take you to the video looking live now. you can see how slow it is. we have two crashes before the
