finally, a big storm moving across the bay area. you see the green even some yellow and red. on live doppler 7. meaning more intensity. live look from the east bay hills camera. a lot of clouds there. gray and for the last hour there have been droplets on the lens. traffic is moving rather slowly. a look from the tower cam. that is san francisco back there. you can hardly see it. the heavy rain will come soon. a lot of fog and clouds at the moment. good afternoon. >> you can see the doppler all the green. we have been waiting for this. we have team coverage of the storm. in the north bay. in the east bay and in san francisco. he's right on the roof here. >> we begin with spencer.

>> in the big picture you can see we have quite a storm. all the colors to which you referred. some of the heavy storm activity in the entire bay area. in the city of san francisco. all the major neighborhoods you recognize. sunset district. to the bay view and the mission. we have heavy downpours, wet pavement. slow traffic. congested traffic. going across the bay to berkeley. we have some downpours along interstate 580. highway 123 and 24. the local streets are quite well. martin luther king, jr. way. in the there's snowfalling in some of the high elevations and around san jose a moment ago we had stoedier rain. it's easing up. it's well all over the bay area. this ranks 2 on the impact scale. moderate intensity. we'll have periods of heavy

downpours with powerful winds. let's go up to the roof. for a closer look at this bomb cyclone. >> it's beautiful to be standing in the rain finally our storm season has begun. i the winds are whipping here in the city. and the rain is almost coming downside ways. intensifying off the oregon coast. going through this is a meteorologist term that means the storm is rapidly intensifying. and technically what that means is that the pressure will drop 24 mill bars in 24 hours. that's the geeking out version of the bomb cyclone. what you feel is a wind gust on the oregon coast. to 106 miles per hour. these winds are going to be whipping later on this afternoon. this evening. wind advisory is in effect for the bay area. these winds could gust well over 50 miles per hour. along with that we have a flash

we shot this video earlier before the storm hit. we went along with an officer and during the rain the roadways are slick. combined with potential puddles and high speed. that is what can cause accidents. >> hydro planing. how do we avoid it? >> when you see water on freeway to slow down. but don't slam on your brakes. you put yourself in a situation where you can lose traction. and spin out of control. the best way is slowly, areleas the gas and press on the brake.. slowly. >> with the first rain in six months the officer explained how all the oils has settled to the bottom of the asphalt. with rain they come up and make the roads a problem. you can see the cars are keeping their distance.

sir surging through the bay area. the orange and red and yellow. representing the heavy downpours. reaching from offshore across the peninsula. through the city. to just south of oakland and we have widespread lighter rainfall and snowfall. in the sierra. so we have quite a little system here. look at this close up. half-moon bay. san mateo. fremont getting wet. continuing to move south ward and east ward. all parts of the area will feel the force of the system. live view. looking over soggy san francisco. 47 degrees. we have upper 40s at oakland. 50 degrees at san jose. we have wet pavement at the golden gate. cloudy skies. d live view of very sluggish

traffic flow. in emery ville under rainy conditions. it will be rainy and windy. with showers continuing over night into tomorrow. the cold and shower pattern will continue through thursday through thanksgiving. and another storm arrives this weekend. we're not dpeting a break. current storm ranks 2. moderate intensity. continuing tonight to produce heavy rain at times and gusty wind 50 miles per hour. rainfall totals will range from about half inch to over an inch. here's the forecast. 6:00 p.m. at which point the most intense features of the storm will be experienced through the central part of the area. it will continue sweeping south ward into the early evening. fi 11:00 p.m. we'll see the bulk of the system having moved to the south. it will be followed by scattered showers over night and through

only if it benefits all san francisco. after a woman was attacked by a homeless man outside her apartment. residents and people working in the area began expressing their concern. >> they get upset and see the homeless. sleeping in the door ways and around. they get upset. >> do they feel unsafe? >> yes. >> the woman attacked told me she has since moved out of the area. navigation centers are a temporary solution to the crisis. and designed to get people off the street and some day into housing. >> i'm hopeful. i can't control what anyone decides to do and we'll continue to fight the battle if necessary. i feel good about where we are. >> residents acknowledge the battle has been exhausting. >> i hope it will be something that when it's implemented it will be a win win situation for us and the homeless people. >> more than 10,000 residents

a condo complex in water front. the prime real estate in san francisco. and woke up and found out the city was going to put this navigation center. this huge tent going to host 200 homeless people. in a parking lot that's owned by the port right next door to their homes. we're not talking two blocks away. this is right in the heart of san francisco. >> i was shocked. i was driving along a few weeks ago and saw the big tent. you're looking around and it is all high priced condos and apartments. you can understand why people in that neighborhood would be concerned. certainly for a number of different reasons. >> this came out of politics and policy. the policy in san francisco is we'll start the navigation centers. we started them a few years ago and they'll grow. the goal is have 1,000 beds up and running next year. they have to go somewhere. every district was supposed to come up with a sight. nobody else did.

this one district had the port property. and that's how it got tagged. the shocker here is that this is coming cheek to jaw with residential. fremont had a big night about a 45 bed shelter next to city hall. berkeley put it in the warehouse district. away from residents. we're seeing more and more with homelessness and possible solutions is it maybe in your front yard. your backyard or neighbors yard. >> the irony is i imagine a number of people who are critical of this particular project, were also against the warriors building on pier 30 and 32. they probably wish they this the warriors now. >> i imagine that would be it. for the residents it's financial. that's what we're hearing. i'm buying this house and paying everything i have for it. what's this going to do to my

what's the biggest thing people can do to stay healthy. we talk about the flu shot. washing your hands is a very under utilized public tool. that's everyone at the thanksgiving meal. relatives and little kids. somebody will come in contact with a cold or flu. and may sfrpread it before they have symptoms. and someone will be touching raw meat. so make sure you're wiping down surfaces and your hands. >> people try to do hand sanitizer. washing is better. >> washing is great. as long as you do it long enough. sanitizer works. look to make sure it has the ability to kill 99% of bacteria. >> speaking of being sick. what about the left overs.

>> here's a rule that everyone breaks. according to the cdc the left overs have to go in the fridge within two hours. you can start to have a lot of bacteria growth. and also we want to use the rule about 3 to 4 days in the fridge. that's it. if you haven't made your sandwich by monday. put it in the freezer. >> i didn't think about that. >> for months. >> maybe after three days. put it in the freezer. >> if you want to get your food coma. >> don't eat too much at once. >> turkey gets a bad wrap. it's not necessarily the turkey that's giving you food coma. it's stuffing and green beans. pie and the booze. the average thanksgiving meal can sl 3,000 calories. add this pie and alcohol.
