first we're tracking breaking news in the east bay. there is heavy police presence outside of a house in lafayette. an ambulance was seen leaving this location with a police car trailing behind it. we're trying to confirm reports this is a possible home invasion and robbery. you can see officers around a suitcase there in the middle of the street. we reached out to lafayette police for wlletu ow as as we information. heads up if your holiday travel takes you through oakland international airport. >> that airport is still feeling the impact of the rain with shut down security and delayed flights. lauren martinez has more on what it looks like this morning. >> those that had to rebook flights or had flights delayed, it looks like everything is running smoothly now. it is 4:30 in the morning, but it appears things are flowing. we looked at the southwest flight board, it looked like all

the flights were on time. that's good news. last night power went out here around 6:00 p.m. affecting terminals and security screenings. some tsa lines continued to work in the dark. passengers tweeted photos of them being in the dark. the outage created a stressful moment for people trying to find out the status of their flights. >> we've been waiting here since 6:00.le after 6:00. she's coming from san diego, the flight was delayed. so just hanging out here with the rest of humanity. >> power was is the second busiest holiday period with nearly 3 million people flying. it is already busy here at the oakland airport. we'll take a look at other flight boards and terminals to see if everything is flowing as well. reporting live at the oakland airport, lauren martinez, abc7

news. >> thank you. at sfo the airport is warning it expects a lot of people to be flying out today, tomorrow is thanksgiving. traffic getting into the airport was backing up on to highway 101 past midnight. last night's storms forr forcedo delay up to 200 flights. the time is 4:32. we are getting a quick update of weather and traffic where you live starting with mike looking at live doppler 7. >> i feel bad for those people who avoided sfo and ended up over in oakland. hello. i know a couple people affected by that. along 101, bayshore boulevard, we have a little downpour. same thing on 208, skyline boulevard in burlingame. and sliding down to the

southeast, along with this storm from moss beach down through half moon bay. this storm will hug 280 and 101. redwood city, palo alto, los altos and sunnyvale, expect more standing water on the roads. everybody in the 40, los gatos at 39. there is still a lot of green out there. more showers are on the way. >> good morning. a live look right now at emeryville. this is the headlights that are starting to fill in and move forward towards the maze and the bay bridge where we are experiencing a high wind advisory. i do want to let you know the road conditions are slick. we are seeing that there are spin outs all over it. it looks like a single car crash on the incline, westbound on the bay bridge.

i'll bring you the latest on that as we get it. to the redwood city area, we have minor flooding that i'm seeing there. it's specifically -- let me see if i can pull this up for you. it's southbound 101 to the southbound 85 connector area. one foot of water in that area. thanksgiving travelers driving to lake tahoe just be ready for delays. >> or don't go today. this is a live look at a caltrans camera at there are treacherous conditions on interstate 80 and highway 50. last night interstate 80 was closed over donner summit for two hours because of multiple spinouts and crashes. chaps a chains are required on 80 and 50. all that snow will make for some great ski conditions this

weekend. but you should have left a couple days left by the storm. abc7 was at 280 and ocean avenue where there was a big backup in the southbound direction because of flooding. the water went down by the time our camera got there. there was still debris on the road. crews could also be seeing more of this today. a large eucalyptus tree came down last night in martinez. it barely missed a house but it ended up blocking the road. police say the tree was about 50-feet tall. the storm produced lightning in some parts of the bay area. look in your lower left-hand corner. that's video of a lightning strike after 11:00 last night. we have looped this video. so this is not lighting happening over and over again. viewers tell us they saw lightning strikes as the storm clouds passed over. s. during the busiest time of

the year. >> winter storm warnings are stretching from california to michigan, some of them lasting until friday. overnight in the midwest, a winter whiteout in the twin cities where up to a foot of snow is possible before it ends this afternoon. parts of the colorado rockies are digging out from feet of snow dumped by the same storm. >> woke up and thought i'd take a chance but no dice. it's just too dicey and thank god they closed the roads. >> reporter: on the west coast an even stronger storm is sweeping off the pacific ocean bringing hurricane-force winds. it is expected to be a record-setting system called a bomb cyclone meaning it will intensify at a rapid rate. >> up to 80-mile-per-hour wind gusts, one to two inches of rain in southern california and in burn scars we could see mud slides and debris flow.

dangerous chemicals over homes. right now we will talk to mike nicco. as you can see we have a real busy looking live doppler 7. >> yes. it is definitely active. it will remain active throughout the day. it won't be the intense steady rain we had yesterday. if you get caught under one of these showers or thunderstorms, it will be intense. let's look at live doppler 7. what i was doing here while talking to reggie is looking at some of the different radars that are out there. mount hamilton not getting snow. the santa cruz mountains not getting snow who is? let's go up to mount diablo. you can see right there, pink is a wintry mix. purple is heavier snow. the white at the top. hopefully we'll get sky 7 up later on this morning and be able to tour some of our mountaintops that will be dusted with snow. as far as temperatures, you can see low to mid 40s out in the east bay. even a 39 in san carlos for one of the cool spots along with los gatos at 38. let's talk about your commute.

what we're looking at as far as the commute is caution just about everywhere because of the ponding that's still on the roadways. the fact that we're going to have more wet weather that's going to pond on the roadways. we'll have gusty breezes at times for the bay commute and grab your wet weather gear you will need it at times today. we'll talk more about the chances of rain because we have -- i have one dry day coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. let's get back over to jobina. >> good morning. a live look right now in the sierra, this is i-80 at castle peak. caltrans camera there. this is where you should not be this morning. it is closed. please, you see why. look at all the snow there. it will be difficult for people to get through. if you are not already on the road or even if you are or know someone headed up that way, tell them to turn around. you do not need to be in that area. looking live at the toll plaza,

a quick trip to some of our areas where it's snowing. all the way up to the north, along the entire sierra, the grapevine, lower elevations, scattered showers are and thunderstorms. everybody is getting wet or icy today. lake county until 4:00, 2 to 6 inches of snow possible. 8 inches in the higher terrain. until 7:00 tomorrow night, another foot or two feet of snow is possible in the sierra. we'll get you coming and going. look at this. another 2 to 3 feet possible saturday and sunday. my seven-day forecast is all full of snow until tuesday when a little bit of rain mixes in. breaking news from the live desk, a shelter in place is set to expire in about 20 minutes in jefferson county, texas after a plant exploded. look atmened from thetpc

chfteretle companies. residents reported the explosion could be felt miles away from the plant. some said it broke windows. a shelter in place was called as a precaution because of a northeast wind carrying a chemical plume. three people are being treated for minor injuries right now. kumasi? >> thanks. new developments in a contentious case over access to martins beach in san mateo county. this week a court ruled that a silicon valley billionaire has a right to keep the road to the beach private. the court said though the public was historically allowed to use martins beach road, they are not entitled to it. a padlocked gate was put on the road after the property was bought in 2008. that started a legal fight with the people who use it to get to the beach. beach-goers don't need to worry.

the court ruling does not mean he can lock the gate. he does not have the permit needed to close the gate. new data shows minorities ae stopped disproportionately for eating by b.a.r.t. police on platforms and trains. steve foster was cited and detained earlier this month for eating a sandwich at the pleasant hill b.a.r.t. station. of those cited, more than 80% were of color. black passengers were cited most frequently for eating and drinking with 33 citations. latino and other ethnic groups received 13 citations. b.a.r.t. says it shows citations are rare but are handed out at stations across the system. police arrested a man who they call the wedding crasher mario hernandez was arrested for crashing weddings, stealing wag

80 is what you're looking at. it's completely closed with snow. you should not be driving in these conditions and be in that area. it is closed. you can see why. moving closer to home, the bay bridge toll plaza, you can see some of the rain coming down there. the cash lanes are beginning to stack up. i understand that there are two incidents on the bay bridge right now. there is a two-car crash and then a single car crash. both once you get past the toll plaza there, westbound direction. you can see the roads are slick. take your time, if you're headed that way, watch out for these people involved in the crashes there. a high wind advisory for the bay bridge and for the dumbarton bridge and the venetian bridge. there's a nine-minute drive across the dumbarton, but i'm hearing there's another crash there as well in the westbound direction. more on that coming up next. back to you, reggie and kumasi. if you have not used your twitter account in a while t could be gone.

our level 1 storm is bringing showers and steadier rain around south san francisco as we speak. let me show you the radar in the south bay. you can see this is 280 and 17, it's definitely wet. everything is wet even if it's not raining in your neighborhood. you're about to get soaked in the south bay. it's as far south as the san mateo bridge, the bay bridge, all of the bridges are getting rain right now. that means more slippery

conditions. >> habitat for humanity is in a dire situation after a drop in donations after the wildfires. the sonoma county habitat pore humanity says they're suspending home building operations because they're running out of money. the non-profit says it will be laying off about a dozen of its staff at the end of the month including its ceo. leaders are hoping to regroup somehow but the future remains uncertain. a new push in the senate for an online privacy bill. the bill would establish a new bureau within the federal trade commission to enforce digital privacy rights. its authors liken it to nannette rights for digital consumers. users would have a right to see and delete personal information that companies gather about them. tech firms including google and facebook would have to explain in clear terms what they're doing with users data. if they fail to adhere to the law they could face fines and lawsuits. abc7 news was in san jose as

the 49ers served thanksgiving dinner to families in need last night. dozens of players took part at martha's kitchen. it's been helping to feed the hungry in the south bay for years. george kittle says this is something he's done since he was a kid. >> thanksgiving always had a special place in my heart. even back when i was a little kid, my dad would take me to the homeless shelter and i would help serve there. it's something i've done, i bring my family out here and celebrate thanksgiving. what better way to do it? >> more than 300 people got dinner and gifts from the team. live doppler 7 down at the street level, you can see 280 all the way through san carlos to 101, that's where we have some of our heavier downpours right now. let me show you where the thunderstorms are. they're out over the ocean. see the lightning bolts popping up there? these are moving from northwest to southeast. they could come ashore. the entire area, all of our neighborhoods have a chance of thunderstorms today. you get caught under one of these, it will be locally
