going back in time, you can see those scattered showers. the roads are still very wet this morning. for the rest of our thanksgiving, we're waking up cool this morning. not nearly as cold as it will be tomorrow morning. mid 30s to 40 degrees. near 50 at noon. upper 40s at 4:00, already dipping into the upper 30s to mid 40s by 7:00. we'll talk about better chances of rain this weekend and freezing cold temperatures tonight coming up. let's get back to kumasi for the news. >> thanks, mike. >> right now volunteers are gearing up to take part in a thanksgiving tradition more than five decades strong. in a few hours glide church in san francisco will be opening its doors for its annual thanksgiving meal serving thousands in need. amy hollyfield is live there with more. good morning, amy. >> good morning. it's a thanksgiving tradition here in san francisco. the big glide thanksgiving meal. volunteers will be coming into the room to start meal prep soon.

they're getting ready now, getting trained. 500 volunteers will be here to make this happen schl befo. before that gets going, i want to bring in the chief impact officer, he's here to talk about glide and what happens here. tell us about this magical day. >> today we have, as you said, 500 volunteers coming in to serve a thanksgiving meal to our folks who come in who are hungry. we are always happy to have this day. it is kind of the kickoff of our holiday season. we see something like 1,500 to 3,000 people today. it will be pretty big. >> but you don't want people to just see this on tv every year and that's it. what do you want them to know about the year here at glide. is there a new program you have? glide on the go? >> glide on the go is our newest iteration of meeting the needs where people are. we try to meet needs here in the tenderloin but also we notice the city is changing and poverty

this stretch of highway 50 is back open this morning. last night there was a bit of a mess with several dozen runaway cows on the road. all the lanes had to be shut down for hours while crews rounded them up. multiple big rigs jackknifed in the snow including a cattle trailer. all of the animals are reportedly accounted for and uninjured. heavy snow has forced the chp to close down the main route to southern california. interstate 5 through the grapevine is shut down. this is video tweeted this morning by a reporter, john gregory, from kabc. drivers planning to head to southern california are now being told to use highway 101. back at home, there's snow in the south bay. fresh powder fell at the top of mount hamilton, with the snow comes some slick road conditions. amanda has more from san jose. >> reporter: it's beginning to

. in the south bay the last-minute rush was on for honey baked hams. look at the crowds at a honey baked ham story in san jose the line snaked out the door and through the parking lot. it was a similar scene at stores across the bay area. two people who sent an accidental text will be gathering for their fourth thanksgiving dinner today. in 2016, wanda dench sent jamal hinton a text about thanksgiving dinner. once they figured out the mix-up, jamal went to dench's home any way. today the two will break bread and take new photos at the home of hinton's girlfriend's family. now it spreads. >> it's getting bigger. they're just family now. it's official now. >> it's branching out. a lovely, blossoming family.

let's focus on the sierra today and tomorrow, icy conditions up there. heavy snow again saturday and sunday. here's a look across the state. drier up north, wetter down south. anywhere you go you will run into liquid or frozen precipitation. you can see up there in the sierra it's still coming down. this weekend, another three to four feet of snow is possible all the way through tuesday. so while we're getting an inch and a half to 3 1/2 inches of rain, they'll be getting up four to five feet of snow. look at it. it will be a heavy, wet snow sunday into monday also.
