online spending on thanksgiving day this year set a new record. over $4 billion. it's almost 15% higher than last year, according to adobe analytics. black friday spending is up even more, about 19%. and it's the busiest day between thanksgiving thursday and cyber monday. more than 165 million u.s. consumers will shop over this weekend, according to the national retail federation. and they're expected to each spend more than $1,000. that's a lot per person! you can find a black friday deal, 2019 shopping guide right there on our website on the home page, abc 7 news.com. a recent survey ranked the bay area the worst in the nation for porch

people in one san francisco neighborhood are assessing the damage after three separate water main breaks flooded some homes. it started around 9:30 last night at 22nd street between kansas and carolina. you see the water rushing down the sidewalks into some garages and basements. the breaks were identify in 12, 8 and 6-inch water mains. water has been shut off while crews repair the lines. >> water was coming down that hill, so it was like a flood. this is the third time during the week that they've had our water shut off. so it's a bit of a challenge bi. >> water from those breaks

it. >> the snow is going to make for a treacherous drive, if not even impossible this weekend. i want to show you live doppler 7 right now. we had spotty showers this afternoon, popping up on our radar and even a little bit of snowshower activity over ms. hamilton, but it is quieting down. temperatures anywhere from the 30s to the 40s. this morning, places like novato, santa rosa in the low to mid-20s. it was very chilly. but this afternoon it was a little milder than it was yesterday afternoon. from the east bay host camera, seeing a lovely view toward san francisco. moderate storm arrives tomorrow and a wet pattern continues into next week. it's a moderate strength storm, a level two, rain will be heavy at times. strong, gusty winds and a chance of thunder on sunday. let's time-out the hour by hour gh , windsst. out of the southeast, about 34 miles per hour right around the coastline. you will notice they ramp up to

shipped each year in the u.s. is approaching 200 billion. >> we look at one county that's looking at thousand reuse those boxes, specifically the ones that arrive from amazon. >> reporter: tis the season for cardboard, and lots of it, the kind generated from the online shopping and home delivery that comes with t so much so that some in marin county are calling in for amazon to rein in its own waste. what do you do with the boxes? >> we put it in recycling and hopefully it gets you recycled. >> reporter: we introduced you to carolyn lund, asking to require drivers to not only drop off packages but pick up empties. >> have the delivery trucks pick them up on subsequent deliveries and return them to amazon warehouses for reuse.

>> reporter: lund's petition has mo,000 signatures and picked up the support of seven communities. court of madaras council is is considering it. we talked to shoppers who do feel guilty about all the packaging that comes with their online deliveries. so what are you going to do with the box? >> i am actually going to cut it up and use it for another package that i'm mailing to support the package. so a little bit of recycling there. >> reporter: abc 7 news was unable to reach amazon for comment on the marin initiative. but the company claims to have dramatically cut its use of packaging over the past decade by some 250 million tons. in marin county, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> you might remember, abc 7 news dead katsd a week of coverage to recycling, and not
