better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, everyone. it's saturday, november 30th. i'm liz kreutz and let's start with a quick look at the weather and the rain coming today. here is meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, liz. you're right. and starting with live doppler seven, lots of clouds. and this is an atmospheric river on the way. the clouds extend all the way back to hawaii. that will be pumping in moisture and rain throughout the entire week. it's a 2 on the impact scale. looking at rain heavy at times. strong gusty winds and even a chance of thunderstorms getting into sunday. we have a high wind warning for

the san francisco coast, the peninsula. by 10:00 today right on through monday and the rest of the bay area will see a wind advisory. but with that warning winds could gust anywhere from 40 to 55 miles an hour right along the coast and could even see higher gusts. for the north bay it's a flash flood watch here from 1:00 this afternoon until 3:00 on monday. those winds should ease up tomorrow. you can see the green shaded area from sanity rosa. napa into mill valley, the possibility of ponding on roadways. right now with the cloudy skies it's in the 40s. 44? frist. 33 in sanity rosa. there we are at 10:00. we'll talk about specifics when we see you next. liz. >> lisa, thank you. people are already making preparations for the rain in the south bay. for those needing a warm shower or place to sleep. san jose has two warming

caltrans warns people to be prepared foreperson closures on highway 1 in the pig is your area because of possibility of mud and rock slides. the agency will decide later this afternoon if the slides stech will close today at 5:00 p.m. then the munn creek tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. caltrans said we should expect similar quizries throughout the winter. and snow is pounding parts of the syria. this is i-807 closed due to multiple spinouts. caltrans says drivers should prepare for long delays. highway 20 is also closed at nevada city because of treacherous driving conditions. and oh another six to eight inches of new snow fell in the sierra thursday to friday. squaw valley shared this video is steady snow predicted today continuing all day sunday. and you can always keep track of the weather conditions where you live with the abc 7 news app.

get updates from our weather team and maren life doppler 7 on the go. all right process. developing news in fremont. a driver hit and killed a woman and her dog. it happened around 8:30 last night on niles boulevard and linda drive. police say the driver stopped walked over to the woman and drove away. the car is a light colored four-door and a. the victim appears in her 50s. no other details released. this morning police in sacramento are trying to track down the person behind a handful of gunshots fired near a high school championship football game. witnesses reported the gunfire last night right after the game ended at the sacramento city college stadium. police say no one was hurt. they lekted the shots to be about two blocks south of the college campus. no word on any possible suspects. and residents in a san francisco neighborhood are assessing the damage after three separate water main breaks flood homes thifrg night.

the mains burst around 9:30 thursday night. running between z kansas and carolina street in petrao hymns. seeping into garages and basements, the san francisco public utilities commission identified damage to 12, 8 and six-inch water mains. crews shut off water and worked into the morning to repair the mains. >> water was coming down the hill like a flood. this is the third time during the week that they've had our water shut off. so it's a bit of a challenge but, you know, these guys have been working hard all night long and we appreciate >> very messy thanksgiving for a lot of people. water poured on 101 thursday night forcing the chp to close the northbound lanes a short time. okay. pg&e says the blackouts have limited wildfires. though the utility now admits the equipment may have started a recent one. in a court filing yesterday the

company did not rule out the possibility that failed transmission equipment may have started the kincade wildfire last month? sonoma county. previously processingen the said the distribution lines sparked no damaging wieflds since it began public safety power shutoffs. the official cause of the kincade fire hasn't been determined. fremont police arrested five suspects in kweks the robbery and shooting outside of the target store thursday night. stooif was over the fremont hub store where security guards confronted four adults in late teens and one juvenile around 11:30 p.m. the group accused of stealing items includinged video games. one suspect fired multiple shots into the air as a car pulled up. into the -- excuse knee as get away car pulled up. . the five jumped in and took off. the patrol officer as opposed to spotted the vehicle a mile away. the chase ended in newark where the group was arrested. thankfully no one hurt. in san francisco the

you can support the local artist on small business saturday. the owner of the willow glenn collective on lincoln avenue says the special event provides a boost in sales and brings new faces into the shop. even on a storm day as forecast. >> sometimes it brings people out. it's interesting. they don't seem to mind the rain and we're here for them. >> david louie, abc 7 news. the dream season continuing for paradise high school football. today the team plays in the northern section division three championship games against sut he were high school. this has been an incredible year for the bobcats. they had to had to forfeit last season after the campfire with the town reside most players had to travel 40 minutes to practice. amazingly paradise has gone undefeated in season. the championship game will be played at river valley high school in yuba city. that's so great for them. that's so exciting to be following them as well. but it's holiday season.

it also means a lot of packages arriving. it's been called the card board economy, one that only really heats up during this time. the number of packages shipped each year in the u.s. is approaching 200 billion. abc 7 news laura anthony looks at marin county looking into how to reuse boxes specifically the ones arriving from amazon. >> reporter: 'tis the season for card board and lots of it, the kind generated by all the holiday online shopping in the home delivery coming with it. so much so that some in marin county call for amazon to rein in its own waste. >> what do you do with the boxes. >> we put them in recycle and hopefully it gets recycled. >> in june abc 7 news introduced to carolyn lund launching a chan change.org.

want to get out and get some things done, go for a bike ride. rain increases by midmorning but a lot of things going on. there is a low offshore here. and you can see the tropical connection all the way down through hawaii. and this will bring in a lot of rain but the line is going to cut off sharply. the central coast yand the santa cruz mountains not looking like too much towards sand louise bispo. 45 in oakland. 33 in santa rosa. temperature are slightly milder than we've been. but the coast here, peninsula, 39, san mateo chilly, 46 in fremont. and looking at current wind flow, the southeast winds will play a huge role in the rain shadow effect from the santa clara valley into the inland valleys. that means it's not favoring a lot of rain east of the mountains here. so we're looking at winds already getting going from 18 to 27 miles an hour. and we have that wind advisory

and high wind warning for everything to develop by midmorning throughout the afternoon getting heaviest later on tonight. so chilly temps this morning. the moderate strength, atmospheric river arriving today right on through monday and the wet pattern continues on and off through next week. let's time it out for you. so 10:00 this morning you see the north bay getting wet as we get into about 4:00 or 5:00 just a little bit of shower activity in the east bay looking at heavier cells along the coast. and that's the overnight period where we get more rounds of heavy rain throughout the early morning hours still looking at the rainfall. and they into 6:00 tomorrow morning we've got showers, some downpours here through 11:00. and then right on through the afternoon you can see the flow here from the south bringing up more rain, scattered but some of it very heavy in spots. we're putting the we could together from 10:00 this morning through 11:00 tomorrow night. you notice that 0.4 in the

area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, if you're just joining us we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather and all the rain on the away. good morning, lisa. >> good morning to you, liz. the pattern has flipped. looking at live doppler 7 we have a lot of cloud cover. maybe even a little bit of drizzle. but we're watching a moderate atmospheric river aiming at the bay area this weekend. it's a 2 on the storm impact scale. that means a wet and windy weekend with a chance of thunderstorms tomorrow. the focus will be along the san francisco peninsula, the coast for the wind and the rain. but we have breezy winds elsewhere this afternoon right on through monday. but we are looking at the strong rain shadow effect, which means less rain in the inland valleys and the santa clara valley. but we have a flar flash flood watch through the burn scare area of the kincade fire. also the north counties marin county we have time line of drizzle the temperatures in the 40s and 50s through the bulk of the day.

therapy work for five years and and the amount of people crying over the dogs are incredible. a lot of passenger miss their animals out traveling so it provides comfort. parents like to have the kids play with the dogs for a little bit. and that gives them a bit of a break. because traveling is stressful. >> lulu is five years old. she's a juliana pig one of the breeds for pet pig. >> we get from the passengers the feedback is positive. we find not everyone travels for positive reasons. we come into contact with a lot of people who are traveling to funerals, maybe leaving home the first time. so to see a dog in an airport is superfun. passengers can pet the zms. they can can hug the animals fake selfies with the animals when a wag brigade animal walks in people look up from devices

the guardsman lost many trees from oregon and washington because of the recent snowstorms there. .guardsman are working hard to get trees from elsewhere. it's run by volunteers and raises millions to send bay area at-risk youth to summer camp. if you'd like to do good with the christmas tree they are open today from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the boy scouts of america holiday tree lot is also starting the 50th year of service. the lot is fully stocked with more than 150 oh noble and douglas fir christmas trees. for part of the first day there is tap dancing christmas trees performing in piedmont. it's a show set to holiday music so fun for the family. performances starting pat 11:00 a.m. the trey lot at margot avenue opens next to coaches playing field. we were talking about it all last weekend. but you'll happy to know i got my tree. >> any. >> all set up. >> on the agenda for a lot of

coast. but much less in terms of wind and rain in our inland valleys and also around the santa clara valley. we have the rain shadow effect going on that will allow for anywhere from less than a half inches to upwards of three inches say from about livermore to sand rafael. there is some big differences here in the rain totals. a look at live doppler 7. illustrated cloudy. widen the perspective, moisture offshore. but there is a deep low and here is the connection all the way back to hawaii. so this storm system is going to allow for the snow levels to slowly rise. we're going to get a lot of snow initially with low sw levels and then it looks like rain into monday. a look at the temperatures, warmer this morning. 39 in napa. 37 in concord. 35 in livermore. 45 in san jose. the winds right now out of the south and they are breezy in the upper elevations up to 28 miles an hour. around mount st. helena. chilly to start moderate
