>> announcer: abc 7 morning zblots goerpg, everyone. it's saturday november 30th. i'm liz kreutz let's start with a quick look at the weather and the rain coming today. here is meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, liz. a level 2 on the storm skbakt scale. and that means heavy rain and gusty winds and the possibility of thunderstorm for your sunday. it's a weekend event as we look at live doppler 7 you notice the moisture off is shore in the big yurl cue in the cloud and all the moisture extending back towards the hawaiian islands. it's a complicated system but we have some strong winds on the coast and the wind advisory the rest of the bay area through the weekend. winds gusting in excess of 55 miles an hour. heaviest rain in the coastal

hills, the north bay where a flash flood wash is in effect. three to four inches through 3:00 monday morning. marin, sonoma and napa of course that's where we have the kincade fire. and a look at rain increasing throughout the north bay this morning. you can see the white there, the cold air still in place around lake county but getting through the system it's going to get warmer and wetter. raising the snow levels and all in a narrow band focus into parts of the bay area. so we'll talk about the entire bay area wsh how much rain you can expect in just a few minutes when we sew you gone, liz. >> thank you, lisa. we know in the south bay people are making preparations for the weekend's rain. for those needing a warm shower or place to sleep. san jose has two warming centers open from now until april. 8:00 a.m. to 9. . anser hassan shows how people are getting ready. >> friday's rain hitting the south about acy light compared

>> roads get slippery. i work in er don't want to see people in there with road injuries. so definitely stay safe while driving. >> definitely some good advise. the bulk of the rain expected to hit saturday afternoon. in san jose, anser hassan. abc 7 news. and the wet weather is spoimg some of the holiday weekend. vta says the holley trolley debut has to be delayed. transit leaders don't want the holiday themed streetcar running on rain slicked rails. but in a tweet they say the downtown tradition is still decorated and ready to go. leaders will try again when it's dry. the holley trolley scheduled to run friday, saturday and sunday nights up until december 22nd. and rain could also close one of california's most scenic highways for the weekend. caltrans is warning people to be prepared for closures on highway 1 in the big is your area of monterey because of the possibility for mud and rock slides. the agency says it will decide later this afternoon if the

last night on niles boulevard and linda drive. police say the driver stopped walked over to the woman then got back into his car and drove away. the car involved is a light colored four-door sedan. officials say the victim appears to be in her 50s. in other details released. this morning police in sacramento are trying to track down the person behind a handful of gunshots fired near a high school championship football game. witnesses reported hearing the gump last night after the game ended at the skrom college stadium. police say no one was hurt. located the shots to be about two blocks south of the college campus. no word on any possible suspects. okay. pg&e says the blackouts have limited wildfires though the utility is now admitting its equipment may have started a recent one. in a court filing yesterday, the company did not rule out the possibility that failed transmission equipment may have started the kincade wildfire last month in sonoma county. previously, process pg&e said

the distribution lines sparked no damaging wildfires since it began public safety power shutoffs. the official cause of the kincade fire has not yet been determined. fremont police have arrested five suspects in connection with that robbery and shooting outside the target store thursday night. sky7 was over the fremont hub store war security guards confronted four adults in late teens and one juvenile around 11:30 p.m. the group was accused of steeling items including video games. one suspect fired multiple shots into the air as a get away car pulled up. the five jumped in and took off. the patrol officer spotted the vehicle about a mile away. a short chase ensued ending in newark where the group was arrested. thankfully no one hurt. okay in san francisco, the christmas tree was lit up in union square last night looking gorgeous as always. but city leaders were hoping would wait to see the tree today so then they could participate in small business saturday. luz pena moek to several small

than yesterday. you can see the flag there blowing in the wind. lisa will have the full forecast in a few minutes. in in the meantime in the south bay this weekend is the san jose harvest festival offering shoppers an alternative to the malls and big box stores. organizers say it's the largest indoor arts and crafts festival on the west coast. our reporter david louie has the story. >> reporter: it's an entirely different atmosphere at the san jose harvest festival. instead of vendor he is having little knowledge of the items you sell in most cases you buy from the airtimist. first time kibeter here rita says this is an important selling opportunity. >> being an yuck artist in the bay area it's increasingly hard to making a living here. the show will be like the first milestone in my career as an airtime theist. >> shoppers seem less hesitant to boy they know what they like and snap up gifts for themselves or others. >> i don't shop the mall this is where i shop. >> you want something you need. >> yes, i like the actual arts and crafts stuff.

this has been an incredible year for bolkts. the team had to forfeit after the devastating campfire last year. with the town disarrayed most players had to travel 40 minutes to get to practice. amazingly undefeated this season, the championship game will be played at river valley high school in yuba city. of course you can't help but rat for them. this has been called the card board economy.tsit the holidays. the number of packages shipped each year in the u.s. is approaching 200 billion. laura anthony looks at marin county which is looking into how to reuse the boxes, specifically the ones from amazon. >> reporter: 'tis the season for card board and lots of it, the kind generated by all the online holiday shopping and the home delivery with it. so much so that some in marin county are calling for amazon to rein in its own waste. >> what do you with the boxes.

>> we just put them in recycle. and hopefully, yeah it gets recycled. >> reporter: in june abc 7 news introduced you to carolina lund who launched launched a change.org petition asking amazon to launch a pilot program in marin county to require drivers to not only drop off packages but also pick up the empties. >> have the delivery trucks pick them up on subsequent deliveries and return them to amazon warehouses for reuse. zblrp lund's petition has more than 7,000 signatures and i could up the support of seven communities. korda maderas town council is considering whether to support the initiative. >> we have too many things traveling to our homes in boxes. and we have a whole lot of extra card board right now. >> reporter: more than a few of the black friday shoppers we talked with said they do feel guilty about all the packaging that comes with the online deliveries. what are you doing with the box. >> i'm going to cut it up and

use it for another package i'm mailing to support the pack annual. so a a little bit of recycling there. >> reporter: abc 7 news was unable to reach amazon for comment on the marin initiative. but the company claims to have dramatically cut use of packaging in the past decade by some 250 million tons. in marin county, laura anthony, abc 7 news. on the peninsula, donations are needed for towels for low income seniors in san mateo county. drop office will be accepted from 1:00 to 4:00 this afternoon at this address. the non-profit is organizing the donation. helping seniors living below the poverty level. saying a careen towel it is crucial because germs and bacteria spled through old towels. and today starts of the the 37th year of what's a holiday tradition in the east bay if you haven't been to doeken davis

display. his casa dell pomba light show speaks for itself take a look. tens of thousands of people visit this every year. it is so well-known that even santa stops by from time to time. yeah, the theme changes each year and always a secret until opening night which this year begins tonight at 6:30. all right. let's get a check of the weather and of course tracking the rain how is it lacking, lisa. >> well, wet and windy for many of us. you can see the moisture offshore. a look at live doppler 7 where we have the level 2 storm on the way today and tomorrow. with the rain and winds steadily increasing. and that slug of moisture aiming to the central coast, and monterey. you can see the pink there. we still have cold air in place. that's going to be nudged out of here by this system that will allow for windier, wetter and milder conditions. strong area of low pressure cranking up here. and then the connection all the way back to the hawaiian islands

which is allowing for the warmer part of the system and we call it the atmospheric river because 80s narrow band of moisture that is aimed at a particular area, not encompassing the entire state. pretty much the bay area and points south through through through the santa cruz mountains. then it falls off quickly toward sand lewis abispo. >> 40 in redwood if he. 46 in san francisco. 46 san francisco and emfrom the emeryville camera still chilly in the north bay but 14 treeings warmer here. 37 in santa rosa. 38 in rear view mirror and the there are the warmer numbers. just slightly warmer in hayward, 7 degrees warm ner san jose. the winds already at 24 miles an hour. st. helen mount diablo gusts to 26 miles an hour. a look at the wind profile showing the very fast winds out of the south. and that's pumping up the moisture and enhance the rain

right along the higher elevations, the coast. and then into lighter amounts of rain but not wind. it's still very gusty from the east bay hills into the south bay, the peninsula. this is an unusual event where we have the gusty winds, the high waves, rain, that is really going to favor the western side or we call that the windward side of the mountedens and the leeward sidelighter amounts of rain. as we get into saturday, 2:00, look at the heavy rain in the north bay. we have rain in the south bay. it's a little bit more patchy into the east bay. this is tonight. by 9:00 we are lacking at rain rates upwards of 0.5 inch per hour. that's why we see the rain pick up in the north about a bay hef yef iniest borth shifting saturday reign fro bayan countainsnd continues, the atmospheric river finally shifting east into your sunday afternoon. we put the rainfall total amounts from today and tomorrow

across the bay. and we have 3.5 inches here up in santa roosz. while we have perhaps a third to 0.5 inch from fremont to hayward. and then over into the santa cruz mountains over 5 inches of rain. the coast maybe 0.5 inch to an inch. starting out with heavy snow with the winter storm warning through this afternoon from is so 6:00 sunday. then the snow levels rice. then rain late tomorrow into monday. two feet adding to what we had before maybe three feet then it's wet. we have 50s with gusty winds a level 2 on the storm impact scale through the afternoon and evening. the overnight gets more showery tomorrow. about but with the sunshine could see a thunderstorm. then looking at the system fading as we get scattered showers into monday and tuesday. download the app, the best break in the weather comes wednesday and thursday. but what's interesting is that we usually talk about the rain shadow effect in the south bay.

the season, a moderate event with heavy rain in the north bay. gusty winds, thunderstorms for the sunday. a live look here from live doppler 7. you can see the moisture gaining offshore, will continue to increase. look at the moisture off the central coast. this is all moving towards the bay area. and somewhat of a narrow band. the focus is going to be along the coast, the hills, the upper elevations. and then all of the moisture you can see heading back towards hawaii. and that curly the q in in clouds pushes over the bay. the high wind warning from the coast to the upper he feels. and the wind advisory for the rest. the winds gusting in excess of 5 a miles an hour. and a flash flood watch throughout this afternoon into tomorrow for marin, sonoma napa, the kincade fire we could see flash flooding. temperatures in the 40s pushing out let cold air out. compliments of southerly winds we talk about how strong the

winds are and how much rain in your neighborhood coming up. >> london police call the attack on lond pd bridge yesterday a terrorist incident. officials say the suspect had been released from prison last december after being convicted of terrorism offenses in 0u. the bridge was evacuated after the suspect began randomly stabbing bystanders killing 2 and injuring three. a group of good samaritans wrestled him to the ground and disarmed him. police rushed in with guns drawn. the suspect shot and killed found wearing a fake bomb vest. abc 7 news reached out to the san francisco police department after this and told patrols are going to be increased. the statement adds that there are no credible threats to the city. all right. as many people head to the airport this holiday weekend there is some help for nervous fliers. the sfo wag brigade has therapy animal that help take away stress of traveling. sfo and the san francisco spca teamed up to certificate

and tomorrow. as the rain shifts from the north to the south. all in all we see anywhere from 0.5 inch to an inches of rain for most of you. and those winds will increase upwards of 5 5 miles an hour at the coast that's why we have the high wind warning there with the wind advisory for the rest of us and a flash flood watch for marin sonoma and napa. where we see rain rates pick up. we call it an atmospheric river. a narrow area of heavy moisture. 60 to 80 miles wide. looking right now from santa cruz, the central coast, you can see the moisture beginning to increase, the rest of the bay area and the rest of the state just cloudy. you can see some of the cold air in place still to the north here. in lake county some chilly conditions. we have what we used to call the pineapple express, the atmospheric river all the way down to the hawaiian islands and this tight area of low pressure eventually they are going to

interact that's going to allow for the heavy rain into the next 24 to 48 hours. a look here at the south bay. 280 where you can see san jose on the clouds out there. 46 in san francisco. 41 in redwood stow. 50 at half moon bay. the east bay hills camera, the lowlying fog here. otherwise the layers of clouds with 37 santa rosa. 41 in concord. 4838 in livermore. the wind profile shows southerlily winds 20 to 30 miles an hour right now above 1,000 feet. and then they ramp up all around the bay area. look at the colors, reds, purposes. this is 5:00 today where we are where we are not even at the peak. late tonight with 50 miles an hour winds from point reyes over 35-mile-per-hour. the elbowed hills that continues right on through sunday night and then into the afternoon we are still looking at the wind advisory. not until monday when things quiet down. here a look at the rain, 10:00 the north bay. 2:00 everybody is wet. heavier downpours.

but through the rest of the afternoon we'll have a few holes here from the east bay and the heavy rain offshore pushing into the north by. that's where i think we get the heaviest rain rates after 9:00 tonight. and then we'll continue seeing this through the yorcht. the santa cruz mountains, another favor theed electrics as the southerly winds pump up the moisture and gets enhanced from the upper efrlgss then drifting over the mountains the moisture is wrung out. that's why the disparity from the rainfall amounts from the coast to the mountains. eventually midday saturday sunday this pushes east. but sunshine on sunday could prime atmosphere for thunderstorms. anywhere from 3.5 inches to maybe a third of an inch in. a an snifrmg in san jose. in the the mountains starts out as snow. 1 foot then 2 feet. then into monday a lot sf a rain. kirkwood has a high base so maybe that stays for snow there. but otherwise the low 50s with
