better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. rains drenching the bay areaover night and strong wind gusts getting dangerous in some areas. >> where the wire connected to the house across the street, a puff of smoke went up. >> all those wires were right on top of me. >> however, in other spots the wet weekend is a welcome sight. we will show you where and our live doppler 7 shows what lies ahead for the weekend forecast to come it is sunday december 1st. i'm liz kreutz. let's get right to a look at the weather. here is meteorologist lisa argen. >> we are still on track for a level two with our storm impact

scale. that means some periods of heavy rain. the focus has been to the south of us around the santa cruz mountains, monterey county and the coastal hills. winds gusting 40 to 50 miles an hour. here is a look at live doppler 7. you can see the focus in the santa cruz mountains from scotts valley to boulder creek and also up in the north bay around san rafael, elsewhere light to moderate rain. we widen the perspective you can see that bull's-eye south of the bay area where we will be getting the heavier rain. that will continue to be the issue today along with our advisories that take us right on through tomorrow morning and that's the high wind warning along the san francisco coast, also the wind advisory for the rest of us and the flash flood watch downstream of the kincade fire from marin, sonoma and n a napa. it is milder out there, 56 oakland, 50 novato. we will look for the temperatures to stay pretty much in the 50s today. periods of light to moderate rain that will continue to shift

to the south and east of us throughout the day today. we will talk about the rest of the week which features more rain for the first week of december. the rain and wind caused damage across the bay area. abc 7 news was in santa clara where a large tree came down yesterday afternoon at santa maria and santa cruz avenues. it blocked the road but that appears to be the extent of the damage. in san francisco abc news reporter ruiz pena found downed power lines. >> reporter: a near death experience. >> all of those lines were right on top of me. something bad was about to happen. >> reporter: santos chable's instincts kicked in, he got out of his car and 45 seconds later his gut feeling turned reality. >> one wire came out right on top of my car. >> reporter: santos chauld 911 and waited across the street.

>> i'm lucky to still be alive because the wire came -- touched my car, and it was like sparking, that wire, so probably, i don't know -- >> reporter: for several hours 39 pg&e customers were left without power in the mission district. across the street brook hunt saw sparks from inside his home. >> i saw a flash which i didn't think anything about it, it sounded almost like thunder, i thought it was a breaker. >> reporter: in san francisco .06 of an inch of rain have fallen. this is what several residents hope will keep their homes dry. >> i hope that this protects this business and all the neighbors, the businesses on the street. they've been flooded in the past. it's ongoing almost every year they have flooding. >> reporter: city workers put out flood barriers outside businesses and residential buildings in the upper market area, gearing up for the heavy part of this storm.

and taking a look at the pg&e power outage map, thousands of customers are without power throughout the bay area. pg&e has tips for what t do if there are downed lines where you live. first, never touch downed lines. if you see lines go down call 911. also call pg&e, the number is right there on your screen. as the storm continues be sure to have a flashlight and backup phone battery in case power goes out in your neighborhood. the north bay is seeing a steady flow of rain, the concern this morning is the area burned by the kincade fire in october. county officials are keeping an eye out for possible mudslides. anser hassan shows us how some people were happy to see some showers. >> reporter: despite the rain people in healdsburg were trying to make the most of their night. >> in healdsburg there's always good food and good wine and it doesn't matter how much rain there is, there's plenty of

warmth. it's a good town to be in. >> reporter: but warm doesn't quite describe tonight's weather. a steady flow of rain and light winds kept the streets welt all afternoon and into the night while restaurants in downtown healdsburg kept busy, this woman who does door dash deliveries anticipates a busy weekend. >> the weather makes it becausy. >> nobody wants to come out. >> nobody wants to come out so i make the money. >> reporter: a wind advisory is in effect for much of the bay area through early monday morning with more rain, but up here many welcome the wet weather. >> it's been dry for so long and we had to make it through the fies and it's nice to see the rain. >> reporter: no matter how heavy the downpour this weekend, richard slater says he will still be out. >> i'm trying to lose some weight and unfortunately the weather doesn't matter then, you have to get out and exercise every day. >> reporter: a flash flood watch is also in effect for the north bay through monday for the areas affected by october's kincade fire. many local residents rpt too

worried. >> it's great to have the rain. i don't think it's too hard to cause the mudslides. i mean, just being in the rain areas where it was so smoky and it smelled bad, it's going to hopefully take that down a little bit. >> reporter: once again that flash flood watch is in effect until early monday morning. in the north bay, anser hassan, abc 7 news. and check your flight if you're traveling from sfo or dropping someone off at the end of this holiday weekend. the weather is causing some flight delays. this is a live look right now at the airport where the area got a healthy dosage of rain yesterday. the airport says at least 78 flights were canceled. another 560 were delayed. the airport was still experiencing several delays and cancellations overnight from the weather. and heavy snow is expected to keep hitting the sierra today. the weather service is warning travel could be in their words difficult to impossible. this is i-80 near donner summit where you can just see snow removal equipment there working

to clear the roads last night. chains are required here and on highway 50, except on vehicles with four-wheel drive and snow tires. there could be two feet or more on the higher mountain peaks. happening now, mud creek on highway 1 in the big sur area will be closed due to concerns about mudslides from this weekend's storm. it will be closed starting at 9:00 this morning. paul slide closed last night at 5:00. the stretch of the roadway is in the southern part of monterey county. both areas have seen slides in the past. caltrans says crews will be on call to assess the road conditions. and the bay area isn't the only place seeing rough weather, parts of the san bernardino mountains are buried in snow. running springs saw several feet and roads are closed off to only local residents, many getting around on foot. the storm knocked out power to tens of thousands of people, some of them just got back after a very chilly night. take a listen. >> we just dealt with 20 hours of our electricity being off.

that's a popular nightlife area there. of the 11 victims officers say two are in critical condition. no arrests have been made, but police have detained a person of interest. we are pushing right now to get the very latest details on this. stay with us here and of course online for more. okay. happening today a memorial concert will be held to honor the 36 people who died in the ghost ship fire. tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the deadly fire at the oakland warehouse. in september a judge declared a mistrial after a jury deadlocked on the involuntary manslaughter charges against derick almena. jurors acquitted max harris. today's memorial concert will be held at lake merritt united methodist church at 4:00. it's the last day of the san francisco international auto show but it is set to have a climate change protest steal some of the attention right outside. te groups of climate activists say car makers like toyota and gm are abandoning their commitment to california's clean air standards. the protests will happen right

outside of the auto show at the moscone center from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., tomorrow is the auto show's final day. and today is the 31st annual world aids day. the day is used to recognize the fight against hiv, show support for people living with it and commemorate those who have died. more than 35 million people have died of the virus making it one of the most devastating pandemics in history. in the bay area glide church in san francisco will hold a special celebration honoring world aids day. the first starts at 9:00 this morning and another at 11:30. and you're also invited to a community event for world aids day in golden gate park. several panels of the aids memorial quilt will be welcomed back home. it's coming from an aids awareness foundation in atlanta to the national aids memorial here in san francisco. the quilt is a symbol of remembrance and love. more than 50,000 panels tell the story of the crisis and honor the ones that we've lost.

all morning we are taking a look at live doppler 7 as rain moves across the bay area. a lot of you probably waking up to the rain drops on your raus right now, you can hear it coming down, meteorologist lisa argen will have another look at the forecast in just a few minutes. meantime, this morning fremont police are searching for a suspected hit and run driver who killed a grandmother and her dog friday night. the crash claimed the life of 72-year-old suzanne ogi. her heartbroken family tells cornell barnard that they want the driver to turn themselves in while others want to make a

dangerous stretch of road safer. >> such a loving person. always cared for others and she's going to be dearly missed. >> reporter: ton ogi-robbins is remembering his mom, 72-year-old suzanne ogi, she and her dog molly were killed friday night by a suspected hit and run driver while walking in a crosswalk on niles boulevard. the driver described as a white man in his 50s with gray hair and glasses stopped and got out of his car for a moment. >> the person that hit her got out, heard, and took a look and took off. i hope that they're brave enough to turn themselves in and do the right thing. >> reporter: a small memorial of flowers and a toy dog has been left at the scene. the suspect's car described as a silver or gray sedan, likely has front end damage. >> right now we are looking at this as a felony hit and run.

what we would like is for him to come contact us so we could get his side of the story. >> reporter: the speed limit on niles boulevard is 40 miles an hour but neighbors say cars drive much faster than that. even in this crosswalk i am a bit reluctant to step out. >> it's a pretty bad stretch of road. cars fly pretty quick. >> i don't know why they don't put traffic lights in, it's like a freeway. >> reporter: police say another pedestrian was killed by a car on this stretch of niles boulevard two years ago. >> we've been begging for stop signs. >> reporter: ton ogi-robbins has been asking for safety improvements for years. next week the city council is set to hear a plan on reducing the speed limit and adding a signal light on niles boulevard near the spot where his mom suzanne lost her life. >> i knew one day someone would get hit and die. it was inevitable. unfortunately it was my mom. >> reporter: in fremont cornell barnard, abc 7 news. two people somehow are okay this morning after their car was hit by an amtrak train in union

city. the alameda county fire department shared these pictures last night. you can see the back end of the car is crushed there. investigators say the driver accidentally turned on to the railroad tracks near e and railroad streets, the train hit the car and pushed it about 800 yards. no one on the train was hurt, either. in the east bay deputies are asking for whoever stole a dog in castro valley to turn it in. castro valley news posted these photos. they say the dog belongs to the sister-in-law of within of their team members. the dog was in a car in the parking lot of the 580 marketplace shopping plaza saturday night. the dog can be returned anonymously with no questions asked. disability activists are speaking out against the ban of single use cups. advocates say the ban hurts disabled people who have limited mobility or decreased sensation in their hands. this he say glass and ceramic mugs are too heavy or slippery to lift and hold. berkeley will impose a 25 cent

charge for single use cups starting in january, but the city is working with advocates to figure out a way for disabled people to avoid that charge. abc 7 news was in san francisco's nob hill to watch the kickoff of one of the sweetest holiday traditions, the unveiling of the fairmont gingerbread house. this is the 11th year of this life size creation inspired by the city's victorian homes. this version is bigger than last year's and includes more than 1,600 pounds of candy. the house features a private dining space that can be reserved for up to ten people. >> it's spectacular because we are able to include people of all ages, so you see the kids come into the lobby and they are just as excited as the adults are. >> the hotel says the gingerbread house is the largest of its kind in the state. it will be on display through january 1st. there is no charge to see t but donations are encouraged to benefit a local boys and girls club. okay. for the 64th year know rad is

the big day. the better business bureau is warning shoppers to watch out for false advertising and keep an eye on the web address in your browser. amazon is busy making preparations as well. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield will be at the amazon fulfillment center tomorrow morning. watch her live report starting at 4:30 on abc 7 mornings. you can take some tours now of amazon sful filament centers which i think is kind of cool, lisa. those people who will be out in the rain delivering packages i feel for them. >> definitely. i've seen them and also the rain light to moderate for most of us, we have had heavier downpours and that continues as the system still sits offshore, it's going to shift in and southward throughout the day today into tonight and things will wind down tomorrow, but here is a look at live doppler 7 where you can see that steady stream of moisture from the south and the impact from monterey through santa cruz is where we're looking at the heaviest rain and isolated showers, maybe even a thunderstorm out there today as

well. boulder creeks, scotts valley up in the north bay, wide swath of rain from the delta around fairfield, light rain into vallejo, novato and out westward towards the coast, point reyes and scattered about. we widen the perspective, we have that stream of moisture to the south of us but also we're looking at the snow in the mountains. right now it has changed over to rain unfortunately. blue canyon, tahoe valley airport temperatures in the upper 30s. the snow level climbing to about 6,500 feet so that's going to make it in and around the rain/snow mix there for some of the resports. 56 oakland, 50 santa rosa, 55 fremont, certainly milder anywhere from 3 to about 17 degrees warmer with those winds out of the south pumping up that milder air. 37 mile an hour winds for mt. tam, you can see along the peninsula up to 40 mile an hour ridge top winds, this is above 1,000 feet. we will take you through the

next 24 hours and you notice the winds still very high from point reyes to half-moon bay, upwards of 40 miles an hour. over into the east bay 25 to 35 mile an hour winds, this is right on through early monday. by monday afternoon things will lighten up as well as the rainfall will be decreasing. 2 to 4 visibility -- miles that is in the north bay, so it is foggy out there. be careful with the reduced visibility. this is the way the rain plays out throughout the day today, 9:00 notice lots of heavier rain in the south bay in santa cruz to the east bay looking at some lighter showers, san jose getting pretty wet there, davenport you can see the scattering of rain throughout the north bay. this is 2:00 and we still have some scattered showers, possibility of a thunderstorm, here is the san matteo coast where you're getting wet. more rain lifts up through the bay tonight and this system finally moves to the east but by monday morning still a few scattered showers, this is monday 11:00 and you can see

more breaks in the atmosphere there. but as we go through the next two days, this is today, sunday into monday, this is the rainfall potential for another half inch or so around hayward, three quarters of an inch in fremont, but the most amount will be anywhere from calistoga to napa down through ben lomond. the heart of the bay looking at a third, a half inch to maybe an inch throughout today and tomorrow. in the mountains you have to go up from 6,500 feet to pick up a half inch to about two feet of snow. this will be 6,500 feet to 7,000 feet below that we are looking at at a lot of rain in terms of today. today windy, looking at the showers continuing with mid 50s. a milder afternoon but wet out there as it system continues to push in the light to moderate rain for most of us, we will keep at a level 2 throughout the morning hours. some of the heavier downpours this morning and turning more scattered throughout the day. one on or storm impact scale for

>> announcer: news to build a better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, everyone. we are starting this half hour with a look at the weather. all the rain we got overnight. here is meteorologist lisa argen tracking it all. >> we've seen anywhere from a tenth to two inches across the bay area. still looking at a level 2 as rain continues to be pumped in on gusty southerly winds. so this morning looking at some downpours in the higher elevations, those breezy winds along the coast and we will look for this activity to continue with winds up to 55 miles an hour, the possibility exists of a thunderstorm. as we look at live doppler 7 you can see all the green and down through the south bay to the

santa cruz mountains it is wet from boulder creek up into the east bay, scattered showers from 680 around san ramon into the north bay, heavier rain along the coast here from inn ver necessary to point reyes, elsewhere light showers. as we widen the perspective you can see the trajectory of the energy offshore that will continue to pump up the light to moderate rain for most of us. we have the wind advisory across the bay area, the wind advisory across the coast and downwind of the kincade fire, the burn scar area looking at the possibility of flooding perhaps some low lying activity around marin, sonoma and napa. milder in the 50s right now, we will talk particulars in a few minutes. >> hard to week it's the first week of december already. thanks so much. it's what experts say is the busiest day of travel back from the thanksgiving holiday weekend. happening now not to perfect

timing as this dangerous storm makes its way across the u.s., the bomb cyclone storm we saw form in the northwest earlier this week is moving through the great plains going east. minnesota has been dumped on in the past week with another blizzard yesterday. regions anywhere from the northern plains into the great lakes and the northeast could see up to a foot of snow by tuesday. there have been more than 300 flight cancellations including several out of sfo. six people had to be rescued from a minivan in san diego this weekend after days of rain down in southern california. the driver turned onto a closed and flooded roadway, the van got stuck in 3 feet of rushing water and the people inside were trapped. a rescue team showed up in minutes, this he used an inflatable raft to ferry the people to safety and luckily no one was hurt. but that is a lot of rain for san diego. developing news, nine people are dead including two children after a plane crash in south dakota. officials say this is the

deadliest aviation accident in the state since 1968. the victims range in age from 7 to 81. three people survived. the plane crashed yesterday afternoon shortly after leaving chamberlain west of sioux falls, it was on its way to idaho. the ntsb is investigating what caused the plain to go down but officials say weather does appear to have been a main factor. the suspect in friday's deadly london stabbing claimed in 2008 that he was not a terrorist, but he was then convicted of terrorism in 2012, released from jail last december and was under electronic monitoring when he carried out the attack. here is nbc's korean na mitchell. >> reporter: london reeling after friday's terror attack in the heart of the city. a knife wielding suspect going on a deadly rampage killing two people and wounding three others. police called to london bridge.

passersby jumped into action armed with a fire extinguisher, chasing the man down, disarming and detaining him until authorities arrived. officers eventually shooting and killing the suspect. >> it's already clear that this cowardly act was immediately countered by incredible acts of bravery both by members of the public and from police officers. >> reporter: britain's prime minister thanking everyone for the quick response. >> i want to pay tribute again as i think the whole country is to the shear bravery of those members of the public who went to deal with him spontaneously. >> reporter: the suspect 28-year-old usman kahn speaking to the bbc in 2008 after his home was raided by police. >> all the community knows me and they will know if you ask them they will know that this label that they are putting on, terrorist, this, that, they will not i am no terrorist. >> reporter: but he later admitted being involved in a terrorist conspiracy. khan was convicted in 2012 for

terrorism offenses and released from prison in december of 2018. now questions about how he was able to carry out this attack even as he was being monitored electronically. >> we found no evidence, no evidence, to suggest anybody else was involved in this attack. >> reporter: today isis claiming khan was acting in their game. the three people he stabbed remain in the hospital. house speaker nancy pelosi will lead a delegation of democratic lawmakers to the united nations conference on climate change this month. in a statement pelosi said, quote, taking action to protect our planet is a public health decision. according to the u.n. the goal of the conference is to work on aspects of the paris climate change agreement. the trump administration told the u.n. last month that it would withdraw the u.s. from the pact. coming up this week hear more on the next stage of the impeachment inquiry from val demings and judiciary committee committee member tom mcclintock. watch the full interviews on

54 degrees in san jose so not too cold, but definitely rainy. keep it slow out there if you're driving on those slick roads. in the south bay today is the final day of the san jose harvest festival said to be the largest craft show in the west. it's held as an alternative to mall and online shopping where local artists sell their work. more than 250 artists are at this year's festival. it is being held at the san jose convention center from 10:00 to 5:00. admission is $9 for adults, kids 12 and under are free. that sounds like a fun thing to do when it's raining, look at arts and crafts. >> definitely. as you said we definitely have the wet weather, breezy winds, in fact, san jose looking at winds up to 30 miles an hour. here is a look at the richmond-san rafael bridge, it is wet out there. light to moderate rain with a milder air mass, rising snow levels and a soggy week ahead, my accuweather seven-day forecast is coming up. also next a couple college football show downs in the bay

it is soggy, breezy as well. our wind advisory and warning continues for the san francisco peninsula. the coast, higher elevations. this morning because of that and that conveyor belt of warm air directed towards the santa cruz mountains we are looking at a level two with a tenth to an inch of rain, more to come today. winds gusting to near 55 hours. it is wet out there, light rain here in san francisco and the winds have been breezy from oakland to san jose up in napa. a look at live doppler 7, we talked about the south winds bringing up the warmer air, moisture and there is an area of low pressure parked offshore, the summit, saratoga, gilroy has picked up almost an inch of rain, east bay concord, walnut creek, light to moderate rain, towards fairfield, 680, the san ramon valley a few light
