good morning, everyone, it is sunday december 1st, i'm liz kreutz. let's get right to the look at the weather. this is meteorologist lisa argen. >> this is a 2 on or storm impact scale. we have heavy downpours, breezy to gusty winds and this morning the rain is coming down from the north bay through the santa cruz mountains. we do have breaks in our inland valleys but there is a chance of thunderstorms. as we look at live doppler 7 you will notice we have wet weather from the santa cruz area up through saratoga and sunnyvale, but as we go into the east bay it's been light around martinez and richmond, 580, walnut creek a few light showers, dillon beach into marin, a lot of people live around hayward, fremont, san matteo not seeing any rain there. as we widen the view you can see the steady stream of moisture that wants to push up south of san francisco bringing that showery regime with it, the high wind warning along the coast. this is through 3:00 tomorrow. the wind advisory for the rest

of us we could see winds in excess of 40 miles an hour, flash flood watch until 3:00 monday morning. this is for the kincade fire burn area and around marin county we have had some enhanced rainfall. 56 in oakland, 54 in fremont. so the numbers are milder. we're looking at more wet weather today. with he do get a break into your monday, but showers will continue throughout much of the week and it looks like another storm system by the end of the upcoming workweek. liz. >> lisa, thank you. the rain and wind caused damage across the bay area. abc 7 news was in santa clara where a large tree came down at santa maria and santa cruz avenues. it blocked the road but that appears to be the extent of the damage. in san francisco lp found downed power lines as well. >> reporter: a near death experience. >> i realized all those wires were right on top of me so i just got out front there because somebody bad was about to

happen. >> reporter: and something bad did happen. after seeing heavy winds rock power lines san chose chable's instincts kicked in. he got out of his car and 45 seconds later his gut feeling turned reality. >> one wire came down right on top of my car. >> reporter: santos called 911 and waited across the street. >> i am lucky to still be alive because the wire came -- touched my car. and it was sliek sparking, that wire, so probably, i don't know -- >> reporter: for several hours 39 pg&e customers were left without power in the mission district. across the street brook hunt saw the sparks from inside his home. >> i saw a flash which i didn't think anything about, it sounded almost like thunder. the lights went out. i thought it was a breaker. >> reporter: in san francisco 0.6 of an inch of rain has

fallen. >> i hope that this protects this business and all the neighbors, the businesses on the street. they've been flooded in the past. it's ongoing almost every year they have flooding. >> reporter: city workers put out flood barriers outside of businesses and residential buildings in the upper market area gearing up for the heavy part of this storm. luz pena, abc 7 news. >> taking a look at the pg&e power outage map right now, thousands of customers are without power this morning throughout the bay area. pg&e have tips for what to do if there are downed lines where you live. never touch downed lines. if you see lines go down call 911. also call pg&e, the number is on your screen. as the storm continues be sure to have a flashlight and backup phone battery in case power does go out. the north bay is seeing a steady flow of rain, the concern is the area burned by the kincade fire in october. county officials are keeping an

eye out for possible mudslides. anser hassan shows us who you some people were just happy to see the showers. >> reporter: despite the main, people in healdsburg were trying to make the most of their night. >> in healdsburg there's always good food and good wine. there's plenty of warmth. >> reporter: but warm doesn't describe tonight's weather. a steady flow of rain and light winds kept the streets wet all afternoon and into the night while restaurants in downtown healdsburg kept busy, rubiana who does door dash deliveries anticipates a busy weekend. >> the weather like this makes it busy. >> people don't want to come out. >> nobody wants to come out so i make the money. >> reporter: a wind advisory is in effect for much of the bay area through early monday morning with more rain but up here many welcome the wet weather. >> it's been dry for so long and we had to make it through the fires and it's nice to see the

rain. >> reporter: no matter how heavy the downpour this weekend richard slater says he will still be out. >> i'm trying to lose some weight and unfortunately the weather doesn't matter then, you have to get out and exercise every day. >> reporter: a flash flood watch is in effect for the north bay through monday for the areas faerkted by october's kincade fire, but many local residents aren't too worried. >> it's great to have the rain. i don't think it's too hard to cause the mudslides so it's good to -- i mean, just being in the rain areas where it was so speaky and smelled bad it will hopefully take that down a little bit. >> reporter: that flash flood watch is in effect until early monday morning. in the north bay, anser hassan, abc 7 news. check your flight if you're traveling from sfo or dropping off some loved ones at the end of this holiday weekend. the weather is causing some flight delays. this is a live look at the airport now where the area got a healthy dosage of rain yesterday. the airport says at least 78 flights were canceled, another 560 were delayed. the airport was still experiencing several delays and

cancellations overnight from the weather. heavy snow is expected to keep hitting the sierra today. the weather service is warning that travel could be, quote, difficult to impossible. this is i-80 near donner summit you can see snow removal equipment two, to go clear the roads last night. chains are required here and on highway 50 except on vehicles with four wheel drives and snow tires. there could be two feet or more on the higher mountain peaks. the bay area isn't the only place seeing rough weather. parts of the san bernardino mountains are buried in snow. the community of running springs saw several feet and roads are closed off to only local residents. many of them are getting around on foot. the storm also knocked out power to tens of thousands of people, some of them just got it back after a very chilly night. >> we just dealt with 20 hours of our electricity being off. it got down to i believe 17 degrees last night. >> we were cuddled up next to the fireplace.

two arrests have been made, but police have detained a person of interest. stay with us for updates on that. happening today locally a memorial concert will be held to honor the 36 people who died in the ghost ship fire. tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the deadly fire at the oakland in september a judge had a mistrial. today's memorial concert will be held at lake merritt united methodist church at 4:00 p.m. today is the last weekend day of the san francisco international auto show but it's sed to have a climate change protest steal some attention a out. they say car makers like toyota and gm are abandoning their commitment to california's clean air standards. the protests will be happening at the moscone center from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. tomorrow is the auto show's final day. today is the 31st annual world aids day. the day is used to recognize the

fight against hiv, show support for people living with it and commemorate those who have died. more than 35 million people have died of the virus making it one of the most devastating pandemics in history. here in the bay area glide church in san francisco will hold a special celebration honoring world aids day. you are also invited to a community event at golden gate park. several panels of the aids memorial quilt will be welcomed back home. it's coming from an aids awareness foundation in atlanta to the national aids memorial here in san francisco. the quilt is a symbol of remembrance and love. more than 50,000 panels tell the story of the crisis and honor the loved ones we've lost. today's memorial event starts at noon. a lot of people will be cozying up inside with their socks on by the fireplace today. >> definitely. we have seen anywhere from 1 to 4 inches but also some areas experienced that rain shadow

welcome back. all morning we are taking a look at live doppler 7 as rain continues to move across the bay area. meteorologist lisa argen will have another look at the forecast in just a couple minutes. this morning fremont police are searching for a suspected hit and run driver who killed a grandmother and her dog on friday night. the wash claimed the life of 72-year-old suzanne ogi. her heartbroken family tells abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard they want the driver to turn

themselves in while others want to make a dangerous stretch of road safer. >> such a loving person. always cared for others. she's going to be dearly missed. >> reporter: ton ogi-robbins is remembering his mom, 72-year-old suzanne ogi, she and her dog molly were killed friday night by a suspected hit and run driver while walking in a crosswalk on niles blfl. witnesses told police the driver described as a white man in his 50s with gray hair and glasses stopped and got out of his car for a moment. >> the person that hit her got out i heard and took a look and took off. i hope that they're brave enough to turn themselves in and do the right thing. >> reporter: a small memorial of flowers and a toy dog has been left at the scene. the suspect's car described only as a silver or gray sedan, likely has front end damage. >> right now we are looking at this as a felony hit and run.

what we would like is for him to come contact us so we could get his side of the story. >> reporter: the speed limit on niles boulevard is 40 miles an hour but neighbors say car drive much faster than that and even in this crosswalk i am a bit reluctant to step out. >> pretty bad stretch of road. cars fly pretty quick. >> i don't know why they don't put traffic lights in, it's like a freeway. >> reporter: police say another pedestrian was killed by a car on this stretch of niles boulevard two years ago. >> we've been begging for stop signs. >> reporter: ton ogi-robbins has been asking for safety i'm pochlts for years. next week the city council is set to hear a plan on reducing the speed limit and adding a signal light on niles boulevard near the spot where his mom suzanne lost her life. >> i knew one day someone would get hit and die. it was inevitable. unfortunately it was my mom. >> reporter: in fremont, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. two people somehow are okay this morning after their car was

hit by an amtrak train in union city. the alameda county fire department shared these pictures last night and you can see the back end of the car is crushed. investigators say the driver accidentally turned on to the railroad tracks near e and railroad streets. the train then hit the car and pushed it 800 yards. no one on the train was hurt, either. disability advocates are speaking out against the ban of single use cups. according to the chronicle advocates say the ban hurts disabled people who have limited mobility or decreased sensation in their hands. they say glass and ceramic mugs are too heavy or slippery to lift and hold. berkeley will impose a 25 cent charge for single-use cups starting in january but the city is working with advocates to figure out a way for disabled people to avoid that charge. abc 7 news was in san francisco's nob hill to watch the kickoff of one of the bay area's sweetest holiday traditions. the unveiling of this year's fairmont san francisco ginger fred house, it is the 11th year that the life sized creation

that is inspired by the city's old victorian homes, this version is bigger than last year's and including more than 1,600 pounds of candy. the house features a private dining space that can be reserved for up to ten people. >> it's spectacular because we are able to include people of all ages, so you see the kids come into the lobby and they are just as excited as the adults are. >> the hotel says the gingerbread house is the largest of its kind in the state. it will be on display through january 1st. there is no charge to see it you about donations are encouraged to benefit a local boys and girls club. >> for the 64th year norad is getting ready to track sabt as he travels around the world on christmas eve. today the norad program kicked off for the holiday season with the launch of its website. it features the north pole village, includes a holiday count down, games, activities also the mission of defending north america.

on december 424th you will be able to track santa. before that get your credit cards ready, tomorrow is cyber monday, walmart, best buy, target and amazon have announced exclusive online deals ahead of the big day. the better business bureau is warning shoppers to watch out for false advertising and keep an eye on the web address in your browser. amazon is busy making preparations and abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield will be at the amazon fulfillment center tomorrow morning. watch her live report starting at 4:30 on abc 7 mornings. i have a feeling with all this rain, lisa, a lot of people will be participating in cyber monday. >> without a doubt. here is live doppler 7. you may be wondering why we have a level 2. we have rain, wind and a higher elevation where the southerly wind is enhancing the rainfall from the santa cruz mountains, from the north bay and of course the fire area. so as we look at live doppler 7 we're seeing that steady stream of moisture pushing up from the

south, it's being enhanced here, you can see the darker green, yellow and also along the coast and even around gilroy and san jose we've got the winds over 30 miles an hour. up in the north bay from vallejo to american canyon it's been light rain over into the east bay from concord, but up in the north bay from santa rosa, occidental and the coast it's been heavier. san francisco light rain, you see the moisture offshore, hayward and fremont it has been light but more on the way. this is also that rain shadow effect where most of the moisture gets rung out along the coast, the higher elevations not much left for our inland valleys, tahoe city temperatures have climbed into the mid and upper 30s. the source of the energy is still offshore and with those southerly winds we will continue to see the rain be turned up into the bay area today. it is 56 in oakland and hayward, 55 fremont, 51 san jose.

much milder complements of the shoulder wind. look at mt. diablo, over 45 miles an hour and as we look at the next 24 hours doesn't change. that's why we have the wind advisory for the bay area, the wind warning for the coast here and as we get into the evening hours the reds and purple indicate that the winds are still gusting to over 40 miles an hour, over 30 mile an hour in the east bay, eventually by early monday morning things begin to quiet the roads are wet here, periods of rain and wind this morning. looking at the advisories throughout the day today, expiring 3:00 tomorrow and an unsettled pattern throughout the week ahead. 10:30 we have scattered showers from the north bay, then by the afternoon you can see another slug of moisture enhancing some of the rain from the peninsula to the east bay, a little bit of a break through the overnight hours, this is your monday morning commute. a bit of a break, there's still

showers around right on through monday afternoon. so it will be partly cloudy with scattered downpours into your monday and rainfall amounts for the rest of sunday into monday, you can see the green, this is where we're looking at most of the rain from an inch in calistoga, three inches in ben low manned, a third of an inch to maybe an inch for the next 48 hours. you saw some of the rain with temperatures in the 30s around tahoe, 1 to 2 inches above and at the lower elevations rain there. 57 fremont, 55 napa. the accuweather seven-day forecast that milder air is with us, the periods of rain and wind certainly in the higher elevations throughout the morning hours, then we will call it scattered rain throughout the rest of the day, lingering showers on monday, download our accuweather app you can keep track of live doppler 7. a bigger storm perhaps by next

>> announcer: news to build a better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, i'm liz kreutz. for those of you just joining us let's get right to meteorologist lisa argen with a look at this rainy bay area weather. good morning, lisa. >> liz, you're right, light to moderate rain for most of you, but we have gusty winds as well. it is a 2 on our storm impact scale for this morning. level 2 bringing the light to moderate rain, those breezy winds and the wind advisory and the flash flood watch still up

until early monday morning. here is a look at live doppler 7. you can see the moisture pumping in complements of those southerly winds and it's enhanced here in the santa cruz mountains where we've seen over 2 inches of rain. so some wet weather into the higher elevations in the north bay it's been light from hercules to martinez and along the coast up through santa rosa. southeasterly winds 20 to 30 miles an hour from oakland, right now through san jose you can see a big lull from san fancisco to hayward and fremont. that is what happens with the south winds, we get the heavier rain on the coast and we get the lighter rain as it moves to the east. we are looking at milder weather in the 50s right now, 56 in hayward and oakland and here are the winds, you can see how gusty they are from half-moon bay, these are surface winds up to 40 miles an hour. throughout the day we will have a level 1 later on and still looking at those scattered showers, the breezy winds and we will talk about the first week of december coming up in a few

minutes. it's what experts say is the busiest day of travel after the thanksgiving holiday weekend. happening now not so perfect timing as the dangerous storm makes its way across the u.s. the bomb cyclone storm that's been forming in the northwest is now moving through the great plains heading east. minnesota has been dumped on in the past week with another blizzard yesterday. regions anywhere from the northern plains into the great lakes and northeast could see up to a foot of snow by tuesday. there have been more than 300 flight cancellations including several out of sfo. six people have to be rescued from a minivan in san diego this weekend after days of rain in southern california. the driver turned onto a closed and flooded roadway, the van got stuck in three feet of rushing water and the people inside were trapped. fortunately is rescue team showed up in rinse, they used an inflatable raft to ferry the people to safety.

dramatic video there. luckily nobody was hurt. nine people are dead including two children after a plane crashed in south dakota. officials say this is the deadliest aviation accident in the state since 1968. the victims range in age from 7 to 81. three people survived. the plane crashed yesterday afternoon shortly after leaving chamberlain west of sioux falls. it was on its way to idaho. the ntsb is investigating what caused the plain to go down but officials say weather appears to have been a main factor. the suspect in friday's deadly london stabbing claimed in 2008 that he was not a terrorist, but he was then convicted of terrorism in 2012, released from jail last december and was under electronic monitoring when he carried out this attack. here is abs's karina mitchell. >> reporter: london reeling after friday's terror attack in the heart of the city. a knife wielding suspect going on a deadly rampage killing two people and wounding three

others. police called to reports of multiple stabbings near london bridge, amid the panic parsers by jumped into action armed with a fire extinguisher chasing the man down, disarming and detaining him until authorities arrived. officers eventually shooting and killing the suspect. >> it's already clear that this cowardly act was immediately countered by some incredible acts of bravery both by members of the public and from police officers. >> reporter: britain's prime minister thanking everyone for the quick response. >> i want to pay tribute again as i think the whole country is to the shear bravery of those members of public who went to deal with him spontaneously. >> reporter: the suspect 28-year-old u.sman khan. kh >> i am no terrorist. >> reporter: but he later

admitted being involved in a terrorist conspiracy. khan was convicted in 2012 for terrorism offenses and released from prison in december of 2018. now questions about how he was able to carry out this attack even as he was being monitored electronically. >> we found no evidence, no evidence, to suggest anybody else was involved in this attack. >> reporter: today isis claiming khan was acting in their name. meanwhile the three people he stabbed remain in the hospital. karina mitchell, abc news. house speaker nancy pelosi will lead a delegation of democratic lawmakers to the united nations conference on climate change this month. in a statement pelosi said, quote, taking action to protect our planet is a public health decision. according to the u.n. the goal of the conference is to work on aspects of the paris climate agreement. the trump administration told the u.n. that it would with draw the u.s. from that packet. coming up on this week hear more on the next stage of the

football team's dream season ended last night in yuba city. this is video from an earlier game but last night sutter high school proved to be too much beating the bobcats 20-7 in the sectionals championship game. up until last night's game they were undefeated. many of the paradise players had long drives to practice because they lost their homes in last year's camp fire. sutter has won 12 in a row after losing their opener to cardinal newman high school of santa rosa. after weeks of hype this morning the 49ers and ravens will face off in what could be a super bowl preview. the game is expected to be played in the rain on a slick field at m & t stadium. the raiders have a huge afc best baedel offer the chiefs. oakland trails kansas city by one game. kickoff at is 1:25. next sunday cal will find out which bowl game they will play in. last night they pat ld ucla.
