as you take a look outside. no different up in the mountains. snow falling in the sierra, drivers facing a slow drive leading to the tahoe area. we begin our team coverage now with abc 7 news anchor spencer christian. and you can see live doppler 7 lit up in green. >> it is interesting as you said earlier. you can see that we have mainly light rain falling through the central part of the bay area right now, but the heavier rain is down over the santa cruz mountains and areas to the south. and that continues to be the wettest portion of the bay area. this storm although it was much stronger earlier is still a significant storm, ranking 1 on the storm impact scale, and tonight we expect periods of rain with showers, occasional downpours and remember the wind is quite gusty with winds ranging from 40 to 50 miles per hour especially in higher elevations. i'll give you a closer look at that and the seven day forecast a little later.

well, the holiday weekend shaping up to be a nightmare for thousands of travelers impacted by the newest storm moving through the bay area. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard joins us live at sfo. and give it to us, how bad is it? >> well, really bad at this hour, dion. i just checked with airport managers and they say the number of flight delays have practically doubled in the past 90 minutes and now at 453 flight delays, 159 flight cancellations. mostly due to weather here in the bay area and a snowstorm back east. check it out. sfo very busy place tonight here on the departure level, and travelers doing their best to cope. >> it could have been better if the flight's on time. >> reporter: frustration was building at sfo. the rain caused flight delays, and dozens and dozens of cancellations. >> it's been a very, very intense day. >> reporter: travis preston and jen mercie their flight home was

canceled due to a storm home back east. >> we're flying now to boston. >> reporter: they're taking home tire chains as a souvenir after getting caught in a sierra snowstorm. >> i had to buy some chains for the rental car and drove through about 4'06" snow. >> reporter: driving in the bay area was treacherous sunday morning. windshield wipers got a work out. >> taking it slow. make sure the tires are pumped and everything's in motion, you know. >> reporter: this uber driver had some great advice for driving in the rain. >> not like this, not like this. straight on the road. >> reporter: back at sfo jen and travis are camping out, waiting for their flight back home. >> thank god for meditation, but whatever. you do the best you can. >> reporter: yeah, and she told me she's been meditating most of the day in the terminal. if you are flying out, check

with your airline before coming to the airport because your flight may be delayed, hopefully not canceled. cornell bernard, abc 7 news. cornell, thank you. well, it is sloppy in the sierra for those already on the roads or plan on driving. chain controls are in effect for i-80 for those who do not snow tires, four-wheel drive are an all wheel drive vehicle. they are required. and on highway 50 chains are needed. and there are also several stretches of highway 89 where chains are required. the weather has closed the lighthouse again. the park shared the same window video it posted yesterday. the winds topped 40 miles an hour again forcing the cancellation of today's events celebrating the white house's 149th anniversary. the weather also knocked out power to the visitor center.

legacy is being kept alive through his art. jonathan's work was featured during the memorial. the pastor says the memorial is also about holding the city of oakland accountable. >> the city needs to be continually responsible for the lives of all the people who live here and the artists who especially are particularly vulnerable. >> reporter: some of the families we spoke with say they are planning future events to also highlight some of the victims' artwork. reporting live ansar hassan, abc 7 news. in the east bay police are investigating a shooting involving a concord police officer. it all happened this afternoon on oasis drive near sergeant road. police have yet to reveal why police fired at the victim or if there are any other people who might be injured. we're waiting for details from police, and we'll have more as soon as it's available right here and on our abc 7 app. in the south bay speed is

believed to be a factor in a car crash that killed two people and injured five others. the chp says a driver was speeding when his car rear ended a nissan early this morning on highway 101 in san jose. a driver of the nissan lost control and hit a guardrail. that driver and one of the passengers died. a second passenger was taken to the hospital. three people in the other car were also hurt. officers say that driver, 21-year-old esteban of san jose was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. another deadly crash this time in san francisco. a red wood city man lost control of his car on southbound 280 while exiting the off-ramp just before 5:00 in the morning. the california highway patrol tells us he was not wearing his seat belt. he was thrown from the driver's side window of the car and killed. investigators are working to learn whether drugs or alcohol were a factor. this world aids day you can see san francisco city hall lit

up in red, also that camera just waving up and down in the wind. this is all to acknowledge the 31st anniversary of world aids day. earlier hundreds of people gathered in golden gate park at the aids memorial. it's a reminder more than 35 million people have died from hiv and aids related causes. this year the memorial welcomed the first panels of the aids memorial quilt back home to san francisco. it celebrates the lives of people who have died of aids related causes. >> i think everybody is very proud that the quilt that started here in san francisco is coming back to san francisco and that it will live and support the next stages of ending the epidemic. >> the ceo of gilliad sciences says he believes that we could eliminate the disease in the next decade. in the u.s. 1.1 million people are currently living with hiv. well, there are times where sports are much bigger than just a game.

new developments with the stabbing of former oakland radar terrell prior. reports say prior knocked down one woman as he fought with another woman who stabbed him. prior is being accused of simple assault and the woman accused of stabbing him is facing an attempted homicide charge. a second woman was hurt, but it's not clear what her role in the case is. prior is expected to recover. he hasn't played since being let go by the jacksonville jaguars in september. well, the paradise high school football team's dream season came to an end last night. the championship game came a year after the camp fire ripped through the town. the city, tow, is coming back slowly. but it's moments like this that keep the community together. despite the loss many there see the team as a heartbeat of their community. >> these guys just keep coming, man. and so it's been awesome to see them. ad you can see this community just loves their team.

>> what these kids and all of us went through, this makes a statement that nothing can stop us. >> after the game many in the stands said they wished they could go home, but for most it spent spending another night in a trailer. passengers from a norwegian cruise ship are being treated for flu-like symptoms for the second time in a week. there are now 19 people reported sick. the los angeles fire department says patients were evaluated after the ship reached l.a. today. all of today's patients declined treatment, but six patients earlier this week were diagnosed and four were hospitalized. norwegian says the ship was sanitized after the first reports. holiday shopping can include looking for the perfect tree for christmas. one local non-profit, though, found itself in a crunch because of a shortage, but the crisis has been averted. and that's not the only thing they're selling. plus spencer christian is coming up next with your

the stormy weather is putting a damper on holiday cheer by causing a christmas tree shortage. the all volunteer non-profit raises money to send at-risk youth to summer camps and private schools. they tell us a large portion of trees from oregon and washington didn't make it this year because of the weather so they worked to get firs from other places this year. they succeeded and had a record sales day yesterday. they do more than sell trees, though. >> down here we had everything from a photo booth to wine and food for sale as well as bouncy houses for the kids. >> another perk is it's indoors, so no matter what the weather is like you know you can take your time searching for your tree. and that is probably music to a lot of peoples ears, spencer. >> that is true. we're experiencing some of the calmest weather right now.

you can see there's light rain moving through the central part of the bay area. heavier rain down to the south. this is the view. looking out over the bay right now currently 53 degrees in san francisco. mid-50s also in oakland. 51 gilroy, and 57 at half moon bay. the pavement is wet, but we don't have widespread rain at the moment. temperatures in the low 50s alt petaluma, napa, fairfield, concord and livermore. and looking westward back towards san francisco these are our forecast features with breezy conditions overnight with periods of rain. there could be some occasionally downpours and wet morning commutes and this wet unsettled pattern will be with us for another week. a storm of light intensity but for tomorrow gusty winds from time to time.

forecast animation shows us the rain will be with us into the night hours but overnight after midnight beginning of morning commute at 5:00 a.m., we've got a bit of break. the intensity of the storm lessens a little bit, but there will still be scattered showers and in the afternoon hours we start to see a bit more sunshine tomorrow as the storm starts to break up and dissipate, but there's more rain on the way after this storm. don't worry about that. dangerous winds, we have high wind warning in effect until 3:00 a.m. tomorrow for coasting areas south of the golden gate. and a wind advisory in effect for the east bay, south bay and peninsula during that same time period. strongest gusts will be on the coast. and up in the north bay in the area of the burn scar from the kinkade fire we have a flash flood watch. not a warning but a watch in effect for 3:00 a.m. tomorrow because it is raining and the rainfall totals there a bit rather substantial and there's no vegetation there to help

absorb that water. over in the sierra still snowing heavily over 6,000 feet and road conditions are just terrible. overnight lows will be generally in the upper 40s to low 50s. and not a very wide range of temperatures tomorrow. breezy at the coast and spotty showers or rain. spotty across the bay area. every single day in the seven day period we have a one posted because there's going to be some rain every single day in the forecast period. the best chance we have for a nice break will be from late wednesday into early thursday. that's our accuweather seven day forecast. today's matchup between the niners and ravens billed as the game of the year, and boy did it live up to the hype. the weather, though, less than ideal. but it could be a super bowl preview. you see why. rainy conditions in the game all day long really in baltimore.
