a little bit of sad news. one of the internet's most famous felines has passed away. lil bub, the cat with nearly 2.5 instagram followers, died unexpectedly at age 8 this weekend following a bone infection. >> lil bub was permanently the size of a kitten. she proved great things come in small packages. she was the subject of a documentary. she made several celeb appearances and used her platform to encourage animal rescue and adoption. >> knowing what we know about lil bub's personality, she wouldn't want us to be mournful, she would want us to celebrate. so, we brought in some high energy here. we brought in will ganss.

this morning on "world news now," millions of people under winter weather alerts. >> a severe winter storm bringing heavy snow, rain, and sleet. it's still moving through the northeast. the bad weather is to blame for hundreds of flight delays and just a mess on the roadways. we'll tell you when the storm will move out. also this morning, former president jimmy carter back in the hospital just weeks after hurting himself in a fall. what we know about his condition now. caught on camera, a bald eagle break-in. maybe it wanted to get an early jump on tax season because it broke into an h&r block. and it's the time of year for over-the-top light displays and the neighbors who live next to them, like this one right here. we're going to take you to this neighborhood ahead on this

we'll have a forecast for you in just a minute. >> but the damage from this storm is already done. abc's stephanie ramos reports. >> reporter: that powerful nor'easter making the trip home treacherous for millions. >> we've got 2 feet of snow here along and north of i-90. now a band has been curling into the tristate area. >> reporter: snowfall rates of 2 inches an hour causing whiteout conditions near albany. hundreds of crashes in new york state alone. >> the roads are dangerous, there's a lot of work to do. >> reporter: plow driver mike terrace tells us, people need to slow down. >> lack of speed reduction, that's the main cause of a lot of accidents. >> reporter: tragically, one person killed in this crash outside of rochester. two others in critical condition. outside boston this tractor-trailer going off the side of the massachusetts turnpike, blocking multiple lanes. in worcester county, drivers struggling for traction as residents dig out their cars buried under nearly a foot of snow already.

>> i think it's going to be a really bad winter. >> reporter: now bracing for up to half a foot more. the storm slowing air travel too. in buffalo this delta flight sliding off the taxiway sunday. thankfully no one was hurt. more than 13,000 flights delayed. more than 1,700 canceled since sunday. >> i'm going to atlanta airport. but my flight was delayed and canceled from last night, then delayed again this morning. >> reporter: in brule county, south dakota, ntsb investigating what caused a plane to crash shortly after takeoff saturday, killing nine members of the same extended family. a winter storm warning in effect at the time. we still have a few more hours of this snow to go. some areas could see more than 2 feet of snow. and with temperatures dipping into the 20s, expect icy roads. stephanie ramos, abc news, albany, new york. >> our thanks to stephanie. so of course we want to find out how icy those roads are going to be and where. >> accuweather's adam del rosso has the details. good morning, adam.

>> marci and trevor, good morning. we're tracking this powerful winter storm continuing to take its time, working along the new england coast, bringing more heavy snowfall and strong winds from boston north into bangor, maine. we're talking a swath of 6 to 12 inches of snow from maine down to boston just north of the city a little more than that, 12 to 18 inches expected by the time all is said and done. out west a little bit quieter at least for our daylight hours today. maybe a spotty lingering shower across central california. bigger rains coming as we head into late tonight ask into our wednesday across southern california. some mountain snows into the southern sierra. we're taking 1 to 2 feet of snow by the time we head into our wednesday night. marci, trevor. >> adam, thank you. turning now to the impeachment investigation, the house intelligence committee is set to vote today on a report by democrats after weeks of testimony seeking to make the case that president trump abused his office.

>> the president's attending a nato summit in london where he praised a rebuttal that was preemptively put out by republicans claiming he did nothing wrong and did not pressure ukraine to investigate his political rivals. the 123-page document echoed the president's defense that he was simply concerned about corruption. >> but house intelligence chairman adam schiff insists the president engaged in impeachable conduct. his committee finalized their report last night before voting later today and handing it off to the judiciary panel ahead of wednesday's hearing. a federal prosecutor in new york says the indictment against two of rudy giuliani's associates will likely be upgraded and could lead to additional arrests. a lawyer for one of the men, lev parnas, asked the court that material seized during his client's arrest be released to the house committees leading the impeachment inquiry. the associates are accused of making illegal campaign contributions and being involved in a scheme to oust the u.s. ambassador to ukraine. sources say materials already submitted to congress contain audio, video, and photos that include giuliani and president trump. the first gun rights case

before the supreme court in nearly a decade turned into a debate over whether there's still a case at all. as activists on both sides of the issue gathered outside, the justices appeared narrowly divided while questioning if the challenge should be dismissed. at issue is a new new york city -- a new york city law that ban gun owners from transporting their guns outside city limits. the restriction was rescinded last year, but pro-gun groups want the court to expand second amendment protections. to the suburbs of milwaukee where a high school student is in custody while in stable condition with a gunshot wound. >> the armed student sparked chaos in his school monday when he was confronted by a school guard and refused to surrender his weapon. that's when a police officer opened fire. abc's alex perez reports from the scene. >> reporter: tears and tense moments of panic and chaos at this wisconsin high school. >> students reporting that another subject in the school has a gun on him. >> reporter: 10:07 a.m., emergency call of a 17-year-old

student who showed up to his classroom at waukesha south high armed with a gun. >> i was so scared. everyone around me was like, there's no way this is real. it was -- it was just scary. >> reporter: teachers and school officials immediately going into lockdown. students scrambling to hide and take cover. >> i was like scared for like my life. because i didn't know where he was. and like if he could get into the locker room. >> reporter: officials say a resource officer at the school, along with other officers who responded, tried to get the student to put the gun down. >> we have him at gunpoint, he won't take his hands out of his pocket. we're in room 220. >> reporter: that's when terrified students inside heard gunfire. officers claiming they were forced to shoot when the teen took aim. >> the suspect removed the handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers. an officer was forced to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect. >> reporter: that suspect, a student, later carried out on a stretcher.

horrified parents trying to reach their kids, relieved the ordeal was over. >> this is a parent's worst nightmare. it's waukesha. you don't think it's going to happen here. >> reporter: authorities at this point have not revealed what the suspect's motive may have been. he's in stable condition. thankfully, no other students were injured. alex perez, abc news, waukesha, wisconsin. former president jimmy carter is back in the hospital. >> he's being treated for a urinary tract infection. a spokeswoman says he's now feeling better and looking forward to going home soon. the 95-year-old was just released from the hospital last week after a two-week stay that followed a procedure to relieve pressure on his brain. carter is the nation's oldest former president. cyber monday was a record-setting blockbuster for u.s. retailers. analysts estimate shoppers spent a record $9.2 billion online. that's about a 17% increase over last year. sales made using a smartphone accounted for more than $3 billion.

he now has. the growing firestorm swirling around britain's prince andrew. >> his accuser is talking to the bbc telling her side of the story about that photo of her with the prince when she was just 17 years old. here's abc's james longman. >> reporter: virginia roberts giuffre taking on prince andrew in her first tv interview with british media. >> there's only one of us telling the truth, i know that's me. >> reporter: in court findings, giuffre claims she was directed by jeffrey epstein to have sex with the prince when she was just 17. in a sit-down filmed before the prince's own interview, she blasts suggestions this now infamous photo was faked. >> i think the world is getting sick of these ridiculous excuses. it's a real photo. i've given it to the fbi for their investigation. and it's an authentic photo. there's a date on the back of it from when it was printed. >> reporter: the prince himself questioned its authenticity. >> nobody can prove whether or
