>> we'll begin with new developments in the death of a man. a death that may boil down to a fatal mistake. good evening thank you for joining us. >> that man died after a deputy put him in a choke hold. police thought they were chasing an armed suspect in a stolen car. that was noft the case. >> what happened. >> 52 year-old david ward died last wednesday morning. after a high speed chase which ended. sheriffs deputies and police officers were responding to a report that the car was stolen. police lieutenant says once they stopped the car. >> they struggled to remove the driver from the vehicle. and used force. which included a taser. and a restraint. as well as personal body

weapons. arms and legs and hand. >> officers finally got him out by applying the restraint. >> once he was removed they notice he was unconscious and stopped breathing. >> ward fts rushed to the hospital where he died. sadly it turned out the car thief was the car owner. david ward reported his car stolen earlier in the week. >> he recovered his vehicle but didn't relay the information. >> police are investigating the case. as is is the sheriff department. we spoke to his friends and caretaker who said he was in ill health and wonder why deputies used what they believe was excessive force. >> he couldn't walk well. >> they told us ward car was stolen from an acquaintance

visiting him. >> he sucker punched him with a gun. >> he had no way to tell police he recovered the car. >> he didn't have a cell phone or home phone. >> tests are being conducted today. >> in the south bay dramatic video shows burglars using a stolen truck to smash their way into a jewelry store. once they knocked out the front window they jumped out and cleaned out the display cases. south bay community journalist tells us that this is the third time the store has been hit. >> video from early monday morning captures a stolen truck smashing into a jewelry store. three times before busting through. the burglars jumped into action. >> for someone to do this. why. good people finish last. >> this is the front window of the jewelry design store. where a truck backed through the

front window and into the store. that's when thieves stole $200,000 worth of jewelry. from the display cases. >> they used hammers to smash cases. escaping in 60 seconds. >> i have been here 42 years. this is the first time. >> the owners who remain anonymous say thieves tried to break in two other times in four months. but were unsuccessful. other stores have been robbed over the years including a million dollar heist. they plan to continue to address the growing problem. >> we had break ins over the hast year. it's a concern. and we're doing what we can to try and put a stop to it. or eease what's happening. >> owners are left to clean up the mess and wonder if it's worth staying in business. >> i help the community. i have been here through rough, bad and good times.

job of going after donald trump. but after that, democrats want to know what are you going to do for us. >> november in california, her support dropped to 8%. national polls also show her lagging far behind. >> hometown favorites aren't what they used to be. anybody is automattly known. being from california wasn't enough. >> criticized for her criminal justice record. as attorney general. >> it's tough being a democratic candidate these days. you have factions within the party. that are far to the left of the moderate. >> harris says her decision came down to money. >> i'm not a billionaire. >> oakland today it was quiet and empty. until a custodian came to clean up. >> i think it was just a matter of a large field and maybe just not her time.

efforts. and south asians for the people. today when she got word, she was de devastated. >> it's hard breaking. she has fought for us. it's heartbreaking. >> she's sad and mad. like many others involved with the campaign. she believes the media broke her which led to a drop in donations and polling. >> they are coming up with something scathing about her. it's discouraging. she motivated us. >> just yesterday she bought plane tickets to canvas in january. in iowa and nevada. despite the disappointment and thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours spent. she has no regrets. >> would you like to see her as vice president? >> if she decides that she wants to be a vice president. of course. if she decides she doesn't we will support her.

passing through the north bay. where the focus of the rain is. light to moderate. in intensity. seeing some showers also right around -- hang onto the umbrellas. wider perspective the low pressure stalled off the coast will kick into the central and southern portion of the state. it will continue to push up the moisture from the south. we are seeing some showers developing once again. temperatures in the 50s. 60s. it was a mild afternoon with most areas in the low 60 ds. here's a live look from the camera. we see the clouds over the shark tank. scattered showers through tomorrow. a stronger storm friday. rain heavy at times and gusty wind for the friday storm. tonight and tomorrow less than four tenths of an inch for most areas and breezy in spots.

tonight 6:00 p.m. showers in the north bay and 7:00 p.m. hours same area. during the over night hours not ut of the question to see a shower or two. into 5:00 a.m. we see the showers beginning to develop in the south bay. pushing north ward. 8:00 a.m. it is going to be slippery. across parts of the bay area. plan accordingly. 10:00 a.m. they're becoming less widespread. and you will notice around the early afternoon isolated showers around 2:30 in the afternoon. the system winds down as that system pushes out. rainfall totals will range anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch to about a third for most parts of the bay area. there could be a few spots that pick up more. winter storm watch has been posted for 4:00 p.m. friday. until 1:00 p.m. sunday. heavy snow expected one to three feet. if you have travel plans it could be difficult getting there. plan accordingly. higher elevations maybe seeing
