>> announcer: news to build a better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, everyone. it's saturday, december 7th. i'm liz kreutz. let's start with a quick look at the weather and of course all the rain we are tracking. sheer meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, liz. storm tracking system. we are l a break here. as we get into the afternoon, the brief downpours, the heavy rain and the chance of some minor roadway flooding. as we look at live doppler 7 you can see the showers scatter to the south buy mount hamilton eden vale and up towards the hills looking toward curbing parkway. wet weather to 680 and discovery bay, the altamont pass with a bit of a break in the north bay. towards mount st. helena showers but well forth thunderstorms that's on the way. that has initiated the flash flood watch from 10:00 this morning through 10:00 tonight

for parts of marin, sonoma and napa, with rain rates increasing there. it's 59 in hayward. 57 in santa rosa. milder this morning due to the breezy south winds. they're gusty around half moon bay. 26 miles an hour. upper elevations, over 40 miles an hour. and throughout the afternoon with the downpours we'll have the gusty winds and as we look at your 2:00 hour, very active around here with the thunderstorms pushing across the bay. liz. >> lisa, thank you. no question, the rain is definitely here. you may have heard it overnight. and from the video in the maren it looked like a soggy night along the embarcadero near the ferry building. our reporter cornell bernhard in sonoma county with a look at those breaking out umbrellas bracing for the storm ♪ let it snow ♪ rain at the annual tree lighting. >> it's been pouring down rain here some time. a lot of wet people here.

bankruptcy by june next year. pg&e is also paying claims related to the ghost ship fire and tubs fire but not admitting fault in either. this means all major wildfires claims are set to be resolved. b.a.r.t. police say they have arrest add man who they say sexually the assault add william in the mill braep parking garage. investigators identified this man mo is homeless. saying the assault happened in a garage elevator early yesterday morning when b.a.r.t. trains weren't running. officers say he was tracked down and taken into custody in concord last night. this morning a dog fights for his life and his owner says the pupate a potent mixture of drugs at a popular park in san francisco. luz pena shows you the every day walk that turned stretching. >> it was a regular walk at the park that almost ended in tragedy for this 3-year-old puppy. >> his temperature peaked up to

drugs pat any park or any, like, beach areas. >> they advise to keep the dog on a leash and remain on high alert. >> you have to react fast because once the drugs are in the body you have to do everything to try to save them. >> in san francisco, luz pena, abc 7. a pioneering figure in bay area law enforcement is celebrating her retirement. long-term san mateo police chief susan manheimer is stepping down after a 19-year career as top cop. . there was a big party in her honor before joining the force in 2000 she rose through the ranks of the san francisco police department. a gofundme account has been set up to raise money for the antioch barber who suffered major injuries after being run over by a disadd customer. this is a disturbing story. the 63-year-old brian martin mass a broken leg keeping him from returning to the shop for months. he is in the hospital.

valentins day in san jose robbers high yack a ups truck. last month in fremont several people were arrested for selling phone stole fibrin kriefrs of ups trucks. now drivers in san jose targeted three drivers robbed at gunpoint in the past four days. lee-anne melendez has more. >> investigators show up where a package was delivered tuesday night. san jose police the say suspects took several packages from the truck. the investigators would not say what agency they work for. >> are you with private investigators ups? >> that robbery happened near banana grove lane and beach grove cart are court. kevin russeller lives next door. his surveillance video captured bright lights but not the actual robbery. >> that's scary i told my wife to kind of be aware of her surroundings. and, you know take care maybe we can get the rest of the

neighbors to put up cameras. i've got lights that come on. >> we have the person came into the gate and put it under my kitchen window which i was very appreciative of. i got my package safely. >> another robbery happening on wednesday night insurance video shows the truck driver kneeling as police say he was held up at gunpoint. he was then told to lie on the ground. the two men wore ski masks, police are lacking for a black honda sedan sedan. the same investigators showed up at the house where the package was delivered between war admiral avenue and snow drive in south san jose. while we were there, a ups truck driver was delivering packages. the mother of one of the drivers robbed wrote this on the next door website confirm the incident. be aware she wrote, be safe and praise god for his protection. >> lee-anne melendez, abc 7. >> food is the 70th anniversary

bringing heavy rain into the bay area has ignited a flash flood watch from 10:00 this morning until 10:00 tonight from marin sonoma napa around the kincade area. there is the sweep on live doppler 7. you can see the break through the center of the bay down around higher elevations we have stat scattered showers. south bay north bay healdsburg. truck ye tahoe valley airport and looking at this moving in this afternoon bringing heavy downpour possibility of a thunderstorm and gusty winds. upper 50s right now. very mild thanks to southerly winds up to 29 miles an hour half moon bay. 22 miles an hour gusts around novato upper elevations at 1,000 feet. at 43 miles an hour mount tam. you certainly can hear the winds throughout the yoernt hours. and if you're driving out there do be careful because it's certainly gusty. through the afternoon i should say the morning hours look at the reds. this is when the nextive wave

moves through the north bay a bringing the winds throughout the 1:00 hour into the east bay and the rest bay the winds dial back and gusty until 4:00. true the overnight things settle down. the wind from sutro showers, breezy this morning. this afternoon, the downpours possibility of a thunderstorm. lingering showers into sunday. here is the lull at sfourts this morning. still showers in the north bay. but getting to about 10:30 look at the heavy downpours from cloverdale approaching santa rosa, noontime, then by 2:00 ob 3:00 over to berkeley and el cerrito, programs emeryville to vallejo and the peninsula over into the east bay by the late evening hours. the heating of the sun allowing for the insablt igniting the storms along with a cold front and then as that all settles down the sun sets, the covered moves through, the overnight

>> announcer: news to build a better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, everyone. if you're just jing us we're are the starting the half hour with a look at the weather and the rain we are tracking. here is meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning to you, liz. a bit of a lull in the system. we had a cd ont move through yesterday. still level two on the impact scale meaning heavy downpours possibility of a thunderstorm on the way this around as the next piece of energy moves in looking to the south bay scattered showers here around highway 1. but really we are looking at a bit of a lull out there. there are gusty winds for sure out towards the altamont pass, downpours and forest knolls right now. there is the sweep on mount st. helena. but widen the perspective and you see the comma shape offshore that moves in later today. bringing thunderstorms, heavy downpours and gusty winds.

because of that we have the flash flood watch from 10:00 arthromorning through 10:00 tonight for the areas up in the north bap. could see rain rates 0.5 to inch per hour. upper 50s to low 60s now and the breezy south winds. that's why it's mild. 12 degrees warmer in livermore this morning. and looking at 29 miles an hour gusts around half moon bay. the winds in the upper elevations near 50 miles an hour. and throughout the afternoon here comes more rain. liz. >> lisa, thank you. and we are following breaking news. police say three people are dead after crashing off of highwayor. we have the brand-new video from the scene. chp says this happened around 3:00 a.m. going westbound by the kaman oi pablo exit. investigators say they believe the slick roads at least one factor. >> you know it's been raining on and off in the bay area all night. we have a bit of a break from the rain. but the roadways earlier tharnd time it had been wet .raining a

good forcing from 11:00 p.m. on heavy steady rain and lightened up. >> police say three people died in the crash. we are working to find out identities of the people inside and exact cause for the crash. of course we know the wet weather makes it more dangerous on the roads out there. stay with us for the latest process. we'll bring it to you as we get more information. south of san jose in the town of bruneaudale is a search for whoever is targeting motorists with projectiles on the highways 101 and 156. dozens have been hit since february. pretty scary. people in the area are worried. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen spoke with the victims and how official are stepping up. >> for george of prune kale, a return trip from san jose thursday night took a dangerous turn. >> but it was something i had never heard before. it was an unforgettable sound. it was horrifying. >> a near disaster that could have cost him his life.
