tonight ten prominent californians walk the red carpet and into the california hall of fame. where is the money coming from? the city of san francisco set to lose millions of dollars after san francisco relocates it's tech convention. we are on storm watch tonight. right now rain is falling in parts of the bay area which means slick roads. let's check right in with sandhya patel who is tracking the storm for us. >> when that storm came through it really had some oomph to it. we do have some spotty light showers now as the main front

disappeared after a dog transportation van was stolen yesterday morning in fremont. police found the van hours later in oakland with 24 dogs inside. the owner of a second missing dog made a plea for him today. >>. >> we're worried that he's lonely or scared or getting fed properly. we just really want him back. no questions asked. >> police think the man who stole the van tried to sell the dogs. two people were detained in connection with the crime. part of building a better bay area is making it more affordable to do business here. high costs have now driven out one of san francisco's biggest conventions. today oracle announced it would relocate its open world conference. >> reporter: 60,000 people attend the conference here at the muscony center.

san francisco's tourism bureau estimates the city will lose $64 million. two reasons behind this decision reportedly is high hotel prices and poor street daniel is the general manager of a brazilian steakhouse across from the muscony center. he says oracles open world conference is huge. >> it will be considered as a sales force. >> reporter: for 20 years the tech conference has brought 60,000 people to the city. on tuesday oracle announced it's relocating the convention to las vegas. >> it's just a growing thing. it's just a little kink in the chain, and i think we will absolutely get through this. >> reporter: the restaurant owner is optimistic but jay chain says this is more than just a kink. >> when we lose each one wf those attendees each mom and pop business in our city loses that

one customer. >> reporter: the reasons behind the move is high hotel prices and street conditions. >> i think this is another example of how city hall and local politicians have pushed out another business opportunity and economic opportunity out of our city. >> reporter: mayor london breed said they're investing money to make a change, but it's on everyone's part to make a change, too. >> part of investing the dollars also includes changing the culture so we can really change the condition of our streets. >> reporter: the conference began in 1997. now cnbc reports that oracle has signed a three year contract to move the convention to las vegas. reporting live in san francisco, lauren martinez. we have new developments in the efforts to find solutions to our homeless problem and build a better bay area. san francisco is opening a parking lot for people who live in their vehicles. this is off geneva avenue. the chronicle reports the lot

will be open by next week. it'll 90 days. the temporary site will include case managers, portuable toilet and portable showers. the city is looking to keep things in check so it's created the office of emerging technology. companies will be require today get permts before they start running in the public with whatever invention they're trying out. if you don't have a permit, you can't experiment. homelessness and the lack of affordable housing, they are challenges being faced across the entire bay area. the city of south bay is hoping revenue from a proposed new tax could help ease the pressure and build a better bay area. >> reporter: ending homelessness and adding affordable housing top priorities in san jose. come march voters will decide to

approve a new property transfer tax involving all homes and businesses valued at $2 million or more. potential revenue, an estimated $70 million a year. >> the idea is that we need affordable housing at all levs of income, and obviously we need to focus the dollars where people are hurting the most. >> reporter: the council 9-2 in implementing the new homelessness plan. >> i understand people want to solve the homelessness crisis. this is not the answer. >> reporter: he's concerned the measure is being promoted as a tax for homelessness, but he points out it's a general tax ultimately adding to the general fund. >> it could be spent on pensions, on potholes, on litigation. >> reporter: it's money meant to

be spent how the counsel has chosen. however homeless advocates and supporters remain hopeful. >> i'm sure if it's passed it'll change many lives for the better. >> reporter: they trust the city will use the proposed property transfer tax to build a better bay area. >> share them by joining our better bay area group on facebook. new at 11:00 kaiser permanente has named gregory adam as its new ceo. he replaces the ceo who died suddenly last month at the age of 60. he joined the oakland based health care provider in 1999 and has been the executive vice president in 2016. on the streets of jersey city where six people died including a police officer in a

gun battle. investigators now believe the shooters targeted the super market they attacked. he didn't elaborate but the police chief said earlier it was not terror related. >> reporter: a terrifying gun battle playing out on the streets of jersey city. six people killed including a jersey city police officer in a confrontation authorities say started in a cemetery. >> all we heard was a hail of gunfire. they turned around and they had the police detectives, unmarked cars pulled up, they were shooting at them, blew the tires out. >> reporter: the shots rang out at 12:30 in the afternoon. the two suspects barricading themselves in a super market. three civilians inside were killed. detective joe seals, a 13 year veteran of the force and father of five was fatally shot.

another officer shot in the shoulder, two others wounded by shrapnel. more than 40 schools in the area on lock down, 30,000 children taking cover for hours. no students were hurt. >> they said to us to stay calm. how can we stay calm? we know there's a shooter. >> the shootout lasted for hours. the two shooters were killed inside the store. new developments of a break in at a san jose floral shop. police say they've arrested jeffrey welch in connection with the burglary. surveillance video shows two suspects entering an office floor last friday. the business reported at least $10,000 worth of items were stolen including a valuable flower urn. the woman seen in the video is still on the loose. lafayette is hiring a trapper to catch wild pigs that have been roaming around tearing up yards and parks as they search for food. the pigs can be dangerous, so the city is also closing down a

recognized as someone that has been influential in this wonderful state is a true honor. >> reporter: this year's inductees will be featured in an exhibit at the california museum that opens on wednesday. in sacramento anser hassan, abc 7 news. abc 7 news was at oracle park for the tenth annual holiday heroes. it's a fund-raiser which helps at risk kids. all sorts of holiday activities and the kids got to hang out with the a's mascot as well as varjs sports stars from local professional teams. this christmas tree is filled with well wishes for the world. tonight the world's largest origami decorated treat was officially unveiled. it was decorated with more than 17,000 origami cranes. each one is hand folded with

wishes of love and peace. the tree will be on display through january 11th. all right, so let's check on our weather because the latest storm has arrived. sandhya? >> and it's starting to push on out of here, but we're not done with the rain just yet, ama. you will notice that the main front is to our east, we're seeing some snow in the sierra, and here in the bay area here's what's left. we are seeing some spotty light showers. as we pull out here i want to show you the visibility. 3 miles in livermore, there is fog out there. definitely watch out for the morning commute. so the rainfall was intense at times, but it didn't add up to a whole lot as it was a quick mover. about a third of an inch in santa rosa,

about 0.44 inch of rain. and this is what expected and that's what we got. we didn't expect the intensity of the rain but we expected half an inch. you will notice the top of sales force tower is a little fuzzy, so wet roadways for the morting drive, patchy dense fog for some areas tomorrow morning and an unsettled pattern continues into the weekend. it's a light level one system for tonight, tomorrow, scattered light showers, slick areas for the commute. definitely allow yourself a little more time as you will need it. here's the hour by hour forecast. we will see those showers continuing off and on. right on through 5:00 a.m. we will see a few returns around 8:00 a.m. it's not going to be a widespread event for tomorrow. this is just sort of a moist flow that'll keep a few showers going. 1:00 tomorrow afternoon you will notice right on through the evening hours. 9:00 p.m. a little more steady up around mendocino county and

starts to slide southward wednesday night into thursday. so additional rainfall totals taking you right on through tomorrow night. anywhere from nothing measurable in the south bay to about 0.10 in santa rosa. tomorrow night don't leave home without those umbrellas. there will be some spotty showers around. and then in the afternoon hang onto the umbrellas even though you won't need it all day. the umbrella will be needed at times. temperatures 50, 60s. for tomorrow scattered showers, thursday showers, a milder day and also a level one for friday. our next round of rain coming through with another chance on saturday. one more storm on tuesday bringing us some more wet weather. but in between we get a chance to dry out, which of course we always need that break in between. >> we can get out for a little bit. tomorrow on good morning america tomorrow on good morning america dwayne the rock johnson,
