the booster rocket successfully landed back on the pad. the company plans another couple of spaceflights before putting people on board. there's a new development in the tragic case of that toddler who fell to her death from a cruise ship window right out of the arms of her grandfather. >> the family has now filed a lawsuit against royal caribbean. abc's victor oquendo has more from indiana where the family lives. >> reporter: the heartbroken family is suing royal caribbean saying the company is to blame for the death of their toddler chloe. >> we don't want this to happen to another family. i cannot even put into words what it's like to lose a child, especially in such a horrible way. >> reporter: in july the wiegand family was on this ship docked in puerto rico. chloe's grandfather was with her and put her near a wall of glass so she could tap on the window. but the window was open and chloe slipped out of his arms and fell.

this morning on "world news now," bidding farewell to the victims of a deadly shooting rampage. as loved ones in new jersey are coming togetr to grieve, investigators are revealing one suspect had anti-jewish and anti-police postings on social media. in washington, lawmakers have taken the first steps toward voting on articles of impeachment against president trump. the debate going late into the night. democrats saying it's their duty to stop what they call the president's crime spree. one republican calling the process quote hot garbage. also this morning the search for victims of the new zealand volcano eruption. as officials label the volcano highly volatile, we're learning about four victims with ties to the u.s. and what exactly is being done to help those severely burned. plus one of the most expensive homes in the u.s. is

thousands of mourners filling the streets of williamsburg, brooklyn, just miles away from where tuesday's mayhem ended. residents carried the casket of moshe deutsch. in jersey city crowds gathered to remember the wife of the store owner mindy ferencz. 24-year-old deutsche and 31-year-old ferencz were killed inside the supermarket, along with 49-year-old store employee miguel rodriguez. we start with disturbing images showing why police say the suspects targeted the jewish-owned business. here's abc's adrienne bankart. >> reporter: we have chilling surveillance video that captures the horror at that kosher market in new jersey in what police say was a targeted attack. both suspects slowly emerging from a stolen u-haul van before one of them aims a high-powered rifle at the store and opens fire. >> there were multiple other people on the street, so there were many other targets available to them that they bypassed to attack that place.

so it was clearly -- that was their target and they intended to harm people inside. >> reporter: police say the two gunned down the owner, mindy ferencz, mother of five, an employee, douglas rodriguez, and a customer, moshe deutsch. >> a few hundred bullets went into the body of a 24-year-old child. how can we as a community, as people, bear that? >> reporter: one person in the market was injured but survived the hail of bullets that terrorized jersey city for hours. the suspects killed in the gun battle identified as 50-year-old francine graham, 47-year-old david anderson. sources tell abc news that anderson recently made anti-semitic posts online. it started when detective joe seals, investigating the murder of an uber driver, encountered the suspects at this cemetery. police say they killed the officer, a father of five, driving a mile to that jewish market at just after noon.

for more than three hours in a standoff with heavily armed officers. >> felt like we were at war, it sounded like desert storm, like we were at war. >> reporter: police ramming the store with an armored truck, the bodies of the suspects and victims found inside. authorities did recover a pipe bomb and religious writings from that stolen u-haul. the suspects believed to be members of the black israelites, considered by the fbi to be a domestic terror group known for anti-jewish and anti-police views. police pointing to the bravery of the officers, including two patrolmen, first at the scene and wounded. >> could have been far deadlier. the reason it was not is due to the heroism of the men and women of the jersey city police department. >> reporter: we're learning more about the criminal history of one of the suspects, david anderson, criminal offenses including weapons charges. adrienne bankert, abc news, jersey city, new jersey. now to washington where the house judiciary panel is

expected to vote today to send articles of impeachment to the full house. >> the committee kicked off debate last night taking sides along party lines on whether president trump should be removed from office for abuse of power and obstruction of congress. democrats say the president betrayed the nation by holding up aid to pressure a foreign power to do his political bidding. fellow republicans blasted the dems say they just don't like the president. the government watchdog who found the origin of the russia investigation was justified and unbiased is defending his report. the inspector general was grilled on capitol hill by lawmakers on this both sides, seizing on the portions of his report to back their views. he found no evidence of a deep state or spying, but made it clear that the report does not vindicate anyone. abc's pierre thomas has more. >> reporter: on capitol hill, the justice department's inspector general, michael horowitz, defending his conclusion that the fbi was justified in launching its investigation into russia and the trump campaign.

>> we did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that indicated political bias or improper motivation. >> reporter: that conclusion now under attack from the attorney general william barr himself. barr also insisting the fbi may have acted in bad faith. >> did you show this report to attorney general barr before it was released? >> yeah, as standard process, we provide this to the attorney general and to the fbi director. >> did he suggest any changes? >> he didn't suggest any changes. >> did attorney general barr provide any evidence that caused you to alter this key finding that the fbi investigation had an adequate predicate? >> no, we stand by our finding. >> reporter: president trump tweeting from the white house, they spied on my campaign. >> and you didn't find a deep state conspiracy against candidate or president trump? >> as to the opening, we found no -- no bias, no testimonial or documentary evidence on that.

>> reporter: but horowitz did have tough words for the fbi saying they made basic fundamental and serious errors in the investigation, withholding evidence that could have weakened their case. >> i think the activities we found here don't vindicate anybody who touched this. >> reporter: he cited one fbi attorney who altered documents in order to get a surveillance warrant for trump campaign associate carter page. >> is it kind of off the charts bad? >> it's pretty bad. >> reporter: horowitz was quite firm saying again and again he stands by everything in his report and said he did not take the job to be popular. pierre thomas, abc news, at the justice department. >> our thanks to pierre there in washington. and the house has passed a bipartisan defense policy bill that gives all federal employees 12 weeks of paid parental leave for the first time. >> democrats got republicans to support the provision by agreeing to the creation of space force, which is a top military priority for president trump. the measure is expected to pass the senate and the president has said he will sign it. today the white house is

holding a summit on child care and paid family leave. governors, lawmakers, and business leaders are coming together to discuss various approaches for more affordable accommodations. now overseas to new zealand where officials say the volcano that erupted monday remains highly volatile. they're waiting until tomorrow morning local time to begin an operation to recover eight bodies that are still on the island. scientists say there's still at least a 40% chance of another eruption over the next 24 hours. meantime the u.s. is filling a request from new zealand for those severely burned by the volcano's super-hot ash and gas. the u.s. is sending nearly 1,300 square feet of skin grafts to help more than two dozen people whose bodies are at least 30% burned. we've learned a pair of teenage brothers are among the eight people confirmed dead. matthew and ben holingder were born in the chicago area but were living in australia with their parents, who remain unaccounted for.

in britain it's election day, voters going to the polls. today's vote has been dubbed the brexit election because the biggest issue has been the uk's looming exit from the european union. polls say prime minister boris johnson's conservative party will come out the winners. if that happens, johnson says he will take britain out of the eu at the end of next month. one of the most expensive homes ever sold in the u.s. is off the market. >> congratulations. >> thank you. i'm a homeowner now. >> the estate called chartwell in the bel air section of los angeles has been purchased by rupert murdoch's son lachlan. the 10-acre estate had been on the market since 2017, originally listed at $350 million. murdoch got it for the bargain price of $150 million, the second-highest sale price in u.s. history. the mansion was used in the credits of the '60s sitcom "the beverly hillbillies."

even wit even with alerts from a video doorbell, a miami woman couldn't prevent thieves from driving off with her car. the doorbell camera there caught them pulling out of her driveway with her boyfriend in hot pursuit. the woman was able though to shut off the car's engine remotely using a feature on her cell phone. that's when the would-be thieves really had no choice but to ditch her car and take off on foot. >> wow. what started as a traffic stop in north carolina ended with the seizure of about $3 million hidden inside barrels filled with raw pork. >> investigators say that because of a police dogs alert they searched the inside of a big rig and found the cash wrapped in cellophane. they say they believe the money came from drug sales in the area and was headed for mexico. back here at home, turning now to another big number, $47 million. >> that is the size of the settlement we're hearing about involving disgraced hollywood mogul harvey weinstein and more than 30 of his accusers.

here's abc's eva filber. >> reporter: a frail harvey weinstein hobbling into court, his bail raised to $5 million after prosecutors say he violated his ankle bracelet monitoring rules dozens of times. just hours later word of a $47 million settlement with dozens of his accusers. a source briefed on the deal says after attorney fees about $31 million will be shared among more than 30 women who have accused weinstein of sexual misconduct ranging from harassment to rape. weinstein is not required to admit to any wrongdoing, and the money would reportedly be paid by his studio's insurance company, not out of weinstein's own pocket. the disgraced producer is now preparing for his trial in january on charges of rape and sexual harassment of two women. one of them, mimi haleyi, says weinstein forced himself on her in 2006 when she was working as a production assistant. >> women have the right to say no.

blocks away from the store to honor the wife of its owner, 24-year-old moshe deutsch, 49-year-old miguel rodriguez all died, another person was wounded. the case is being investigated as a hate crime. now there are new developments in the pensacola naval base shooting investigation. three sources say the incident was likely a terror attack that was inspired by radical islamist ideology. officially the fbi has stopped short of the terror designation. investigators say the gunman, a saudi air force officer, did considerable travel before the attack. they believe that travel was likely related to his training and not an effort to seek out potential targets. the chilean air force says search crews may have found some debris from a military transport plane missing since monday. officials say searchers have recovered spongy material that may be from the plane's fuel tank. it was floating in the icy waters of the antarctic sea about 19 miles where the plane last had radio contact. the c-130 plane took off monday about from a base in southern chile carrying 38 people.

presidential candidate mike bloomberg is planning a big donation to help keep the house in democratic hands. $10 million to a political action committee to defend house democrats who are vulnerable because of their support for impeaching the president. bloomberg has spent big money on house races before. he gave democrats around $110 million for last year's midterms. president trump and the first lady hosted two hanukkah receptions at the white house saying he will always celebrate and honor the jewish people. the president talked about his pro-israel policies like recognizing jerusalem as its capital and he signed an executive order designed to combat anti-semitism on college campuses by threatening to withhold federal funding. the order is expected to be challenged in court. critics say it interprets judaism as a race or nationality, not just a religion. around the country every major league ballpark will have expanded protective netting next season. the news follows a number of
