this crash around 1:43 this morning with two work trucks. according to chp, this left car was left abandoned in the middle lanes and struck by oncoming traffic. again, those two work trucks were filled with workers. they were involved in that crash, but luckily we hear only minor injuries were reported by those workers. because of the force of that accident, that gravel went spilling across the northbound and southbound lanes causing a huge mess. back here live, i want to show you this, the last of those work trucks being cleared from the northbound lanes of 101. still waiting to learn an eta as to when this is cleared. remarkably only minor injuries reported this morning. lots of questions as to why the zip car was in the middle of the ro road. i'm julian glover, abc7 news.

>> that's wild. there is an alert this morning for muni commuters in san francisco. your train could be really, really crowded. >>problem with the new fleet. another problem on top of the other high profile issues that needed fixes this year. amy hollyfield is in the west portal neighborhood. >> they're having quite a few problems with these new trains. this issue is the pins that hold the trains together what this means for you if you're a muni rider is trains will be crowded today. they're not using as many cars as usual. muni will be running about a dozen trains with just one car instead of two. the report says the pins that hold the trains together need to be replaced. the manufacturer is sending new pins and is paying for the replacements. the company, semem siemans is a redesigning the pins.

muni bought 68 new trains in the last year from the new company. they had to fix the new brakes on the trains, add sensors to the doors and next year will need to replace the bench seats. muni is calling this problem short-term and says to expect only crowded trains today. that's what they're saying as of right now as they wait for those pins to arrive. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. joe biden will be in the bay area today for a pair of fund-raisers, one held in palo alto, the other in san francisco. >> according to politico, one of them will be hosted by senator dianne feinstein and her husband and the other hosted by san francisco lawyer joe conchet. today is the deadline for democrats to qualify for the presidential debate in l.a. and it appears seven candidateseyers today.

he spoke and answered questions at an event in walnut creek yesterday. he said he's running for president so the government can start working for the people. steyer is one of seven candidates who qualified for next thursday's debate in l.a. michael bloomberg was in san francisco talking climate change yesterday. he attended a conference at the moscone center with former governor jerry brown. earlier he kicked off his california campaign swing in stockton. bloomberg told supporters he would use tax credits to pay for affordable housing. in the east bay, a big break in the case of a hair cut gone bad. the woman accused of running over a barber in antioch is now in custody. 28-year-old ruby turned herself in yesterday. she rammed her car into a barbershop after a dispute over her son's hair cut. the impact pushed 63-year-old brian martin into the shop's front window. martin suffered severe leg

injuries. three alleged drug dealers in the tenderloin have been arrested and charged by federal authorities in the deaths of a santa rosa man and his toddlerment the u.s. attorney filed a criminal complaint yesterday. in september, pat tririck o'nei was found unresponsive and his 13-month-old son dead, the son consumed fentanyl. >> where these drugs were distributed in the open air drug market that exists in the tenderloin neighborhood of san francisco. charging an alleged drug dealer saying his drugs caused someone's death, this is a strong charge and is relatively rare. so if convicted, the three defendants could get a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. a defense attorney in the ghost ship trial is asking for personal information of the

previous juries. he wants the court to unseal information about past jurors in the case. the defense claims it could help them prepare his defense at a retrial expected next year. a jury deadlocked on involuntary manslaughter charges in september. 36 people died in that fire. jurors acquitted max harris. an unusual standoff in san francisco. a man scaled several buildings near market street, drawing onlookers and bringing traffic to a standstill. laura martinez saw it unfold and tells us what happened. >> the fall was about 15 feet. within seconds this man had ended hours of tense moments. >> i was debating do i watch it or look away. >> several onlookers asked themselves the same question. >> it's one of those things, you

don't want to look at it or follow it but you're also concerned. >> reporter: police say it started around 9:40 wednesday morning when they got the call of a man jumping into traffic. that man jumped on to a building and refused to come down. >> he is saying i'm going to do it. i'm going to jump officially. >> reporter: police officers stood by on the ground and roofs to try and communicate with him and get him down safely. >> it's sad that we can't do a better job or taking care of people. >> reporter: at one point the man jumped on the awning of nick's foods and liquor. a convenience store that had to close while all of this was unfolding. >> nobody in and out. we close it. no one can come. >> reporter: by 4:00 p.m., the man appears to fall or slip from the awning of a ground floor building. >> he is up 60, 70 feet, that fall would have killed him. happy it was 15, but at the same time, yeah, that's really sad. >> reporter: after he fell, police loaded him on a gurney and took him to a hospital.

starting in the north bay, a chance of wet weather up through 1:00. drier this afternoon as we push into the low 60s. we have a chance of wet weather through 1:00 p.m., drier this afternoon, low 60s here. let's look at what's going on along the east bay shoreline. you can see wet weather through 9:00, mainly cloudy and middle 60s, a bit warmer here. as we head over towards the peninsula, about the same as what we saw on the other side of the bay, a chance of drizzle and rain through 9:00. mainly dry the rest of the afternoon. there will still be clouds around, so still a few patches of drizzle. temperatures around 65. down in the south bay, mainly cloudy today. look at these temperatures, 66 during the afternoon hours. for san francisco, a chance of wet weather, all the way through about 3:00. not a steady rain, just off and on. we'll see some sunshine coming at you as we head into the afternoon hours. we'll turn it over to jobina and when i come back we'll look at the weekend forecast. >> good morning.

yes, a traffic alert. we are looking at video from the scene in mountain view. this is northbound 101 just past san antonio road. both the northbound lanes of 101 and southbound lanes of 101 are closed right now. you can see this crash is absolutely horrific. amazingly what we're hearing from first responders out there is that the injuries are minor for the people involved in the crash. it happened around 1:45 this morning. still everything you can see is shut down because there is debris spread across the roadway. especially in the northbound lanes at the site of the crash. julian glover is on the scene. he's talking with chp patrol officers right now, working to get more details for us on this crash, possibly when this will be reopening. you can see it's going to take a while for first responders to get this cleared up. as i bring you out to the map, you can see where it is. this purple is showing you that

hanging in the air there. for our super, super commuters out in the san joaquin valley, they're dealing with dense fog. we'll see more of that tomorrow morning. here's the wet weather, it's about from 80 northward and raining in tahoe today and yosemite. only the peaks are getting some snow. upper 60s to lower 70s in southern california. winter weather advisory noon tomorrow until 10:00 a.m. saturday, 15 inches of snow is possible. try to limit your commuting or driving through the high country tomorrow. workers at san francisco e-scooter company spin have voted to unionize. the chronicle is reporting the workers authorization cards were ratified yesterday with the majority of the 40 workers voting for forming a union. spin is one of four companies awarded a permit to rent out e-scooters in the city earlier this year. an idea is being floated in oakland to help build a better

bay area by housing the homeless on a cruise ship. rebecca kaplan brought up the idea during a council meeting. she says cruise ships have been used to shelter people in coastal areas left homeless by natural disasters. the port of oakland opposes the idea. officials say there just isn't the infrastructure to berth a ship. homeless advocates say they want a program that offers permanent housing. the house judiciary committee will continue their marathon two-day session on capitol hill to consider impeachment charges. last night both sides appealed to americans sense of history. good morning. lawmakers spent more than three hours last night arguing for and against impeachment. each side portraying the vote as a moment in history with the other side on the wrong side. >> i'll just point back to 2019 and say this is the year you put a dagger in minority rights.

illegal side shows and street racing. in our effort toreached out to a councilman to see what more could be done. commuters have more options to speed up their ride along u.s. highway 101 in the north bay. abc7 was in petaluma for a ribbon cutting yesterday. the ceremony celebrated the opening of more than four miles of hov lanes. the aim is to boost traffic flow on a congested stretch of 101 called the narrows. the 1$144 million project also includes a bike path which links the two communities. a team of scientists says garbage is likely the cause of thousands of mysterious creators off the california coast. signtists were investigating the so-called pock marks on the sea floor. more than 5,000 of them are off the coast of big sur. many of them contain trash, which attracts marine life. fish, snails and starfish kick up sediment which, in turn,

continuing to follow because it has shut down both the northbound and southbound lanes of 101 just past san antonio road. i got off the phone with our reporter, julian glover on the scene there. he learned new information from the chp. they're telling him the red zip car that was involved here, it appears that driver was driving drink, crashed into the center divide, exited the car, and then there were two other vehicles approaching northbound 101 and ended up hitting that car. the driver was outside of the car amazingly was not hurt. one of the drivers in the vehicles involved that came up and hit that zip car did receive some minor injuries. the chp did say the driver of the zip car was placed under arrest. that's what we know so far. >> all right. thank you so much. here's a package thief the likes of which we have never seen before. al security camera captured a
