that starts this afternoon and goes through saturday. a little bit of fog out there, especially up in the north bay and out near discovery bay. visibility is a mile. it's okay. if it gets lower, we'll let you know. here's that drizzle at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's drizzle and fog this morning. look how mild it is. mid to upper 50s. those are our average highs. this afternoon, 60s at the coast. low to mid 60s. that mild, moist air will bring us a chance of needing an umbrella and slowing down on the roads through 7:00. here's jobina. >> thank you. good morning. so, i first want to mention that we will be continuing to follow this sigalert out of mountain view all morning long. this is northbound 101 just past san antonio road. julian glover is on the scene there and got brand-new information from the chp. i will tell you that we know a drunk driver caused this crash, turned out that the driver hit a center divide and then it spiraled from there. multiple cars involved there.

i'll let him bring you the details on that. if you're trying to get in and out of the south bay, the alternate is exit san antonio road, turn right on san antonio, make a u-turn at bayshore to get back on northbound 101. kumasi? >> we have following breaking news that crash involving multiple cars overnight. we just learned new information about what led up to all of this. julian glover is live at the scene with those details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. like you said, we just got new information from chp and that is that that red car, that zip car, the driver of it is actually what caused this entire thing in the first place. we're hearing that person was arrested for a dui and when you get to the video, you'll see why this is all so remarkable that the person is okay this morning. actually want to go back live and show you what's happening here. we have those caltrans crews that are working hard to get the

last remnants of glaravel off t road. if we go to the video, you can see two of those work trucks involved in this crash with that red zip car. one of those work trucks was carrying gravel. that spilled over to the northbound and southbound lanes. that caused this mess. we do want to get to sound from an officer as he tells us what happened to that driver. >> that driver stepped out of the vehicle, that was the person that was suspected to be a dui. >> okay. is that person arrested? >> that person has been arrested. one person has been transported to the hospital. >> getting back here live this morning. we're waiting to get an estimation as to when all of this will be cleared up, both northbound and southbound lanes blocked in mountain view as traffic continues to be diverted. we'll keep you posted with updates throughout the morning. reporting live on the 101, julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you. developing news this morning

in that deadly gun battle in new jersey now being called a hate crime. the shootout in jersey city left four people dead including a police detective. authorities have revealed the suspects also had a pipebomb in their stolen u-haul. kenneth moton has that. >> reporter: a massive crowd gathered overnight. for the funeral of 24-year-old moshe deutsch, one of the four victims killed in the gun battle in jersey city, new jersey. this video is reportedly part of the investigation according to law enforcement. it shows a van pulling up outside a kosher market. two people exit a stolen u-haul and shoot into the store. investigators say the shooters were 47-year-old david anderson and 50-year-old francine graham. it all started when detective joe seals encountered the suspects at a cemetery while investigating a murder. police say anderson and graham killed the detective, a father of five. then drove a mile to that jewish market. >> clearly that was the target.

they shot people inside. >> police say the suspects shot and killed the owner mindy ferencz along with employee miguel rodriguez and deutsch who was in the market. >> a few hundred bullets went into a body of a 24-year-old child. how can we as a community, as people bear that? >> reporter: the suspects have been linked to the black israelites, an anti-semitic group also known for anti-government and anti-police sentiments. president trump called the shooters wicked murderers during a hanukkah reception at the white house where he signed an executive order that targets anti-semitism on college campuses by threatening to withhold federal funding but the order is expected to be challenged in court. critics says it interprets judaism as a race or nationality not just a religion, a step that gives the department of education broader authority over anti-semitic incidents on campuses. new this morning, a 21-year-old man is being held

without bail after police say he tried to kill his co-worker in palo alto. lionel munoz was arrested yesterday. he stabbed his co-worker from behind. police say it started when munoz got into a fight with a co-worker at the office on page mill road. munoz is accused of stabbing the victim in the mailroom and chasing the co-worker outside. police say they found munoz in the parking lot still holding the knife. the victim is expected to recover. gilroy police are looking into a crossbow shooting in which the arrow narrowly missed the head of an out of town hotel guest. it happened yesterday at the best western. police released these photos showing the arrow and a stock image of a handheld crossbow that it likely came from. the guest told officers that the arrow whizzed by their head and hit a wall. the man suspected of thefts at yoga studios across the region is under arrest. police in roseville say

christopher newton went into a yoga studio last week pretending like he wanted to take a class and allegedly stole cash and credit cards. there were five warrants for his arrest for similar incidents in walnut creek, berkeley, belmont, monterey county and livermore. california now taking an official stance on pregnant women and the use of marijuana. a panel of scientists governor newsom appointed voted to put cannabis, smoke and thc on the list of reproductive toxins. there's a one-year grace period before the warning are required. cannabis officials said there's not enough research on thc to support the move. in an effort to building a better bay area, san francisco now has an online tool to make it easier to get mental health or addiction treatment. this website, findtreatmentsf.org shows a r realtime location of treatment beds. it's meant to help those with

going to wake up with dampness in the air. more in the form of fog. now, as we head into friday afternoon into saturday, if you have plans to be outside, make sure you dress to stay dry. it will be cooler, but at least it's dry sunday and monday. all right, jobina? >> thank you. we're starting with our traffic alert here that we're continuing to follow in mountain view. both northbound and southbound 101 past san antonio road are shut down. this is video from the scene. what we have learned is that that red car you're seeing at the beginning was being driven by a drunk driver. that driver crashed into the center divide on northbound 101. then two other vehicles including a truck carrying gravel were coming up northbound 101, crashed into that zip car. that gravel has spewed across the roadways there. amazingly, no serious injuries. the driver of that truck was taken to the hospital. julian glover is on the scene there. he'll have an update for us coming up later in the show.

afternoon hours. let's talk more about the commute. here is jobina. >> good morning. the big headline now is the northbound lanes of 101 in mountain view where we had that serious crash past san antonio road have reopened. that is the good news here. we have learned from the chp that a drunk driver caused this crash. i want to send it over to julian glover who is live on the scene for us with more information. hi, julian. >> good morning to you. some new information here. we're hearing from chp that that driver was a 25-year-old man, as you said, he was arrested for dui. let's get you to what's happening now. caltrans crews are in the last stages of clearing up the southbound lanes here of u.s. 101 of that gravel that was spilled by one of the two work trucks involved in this crash. we'll pan over and show you the northbound lanes, they are open this morning. your drive is clear if you're heading northbound on 101. let's get you to the video of this awful crash.

you can see this red car, a zip car. we're hearing the driver hit the center divide, got out of his vehicle and that's when the car was struck by the two work trucks. one of them carrying gravel that spilled all over the northbound and southbound lanes that closed it for four hours. again, those northbound lanes are open this morning. no injuries reported for the driver of that red car. certainly lucky to be alive. only minor injuries reported from those workers in those trucks. again, the southbound lanes in the last phases of being cleared. it's loud. it's dusty, but these crews are working hard to make sure your morning commute is smooth. reporting live in the southbound lanes of 101, julian glover, abc7 news. an alert for muni commuters in san francisco this morning. your train could be really crowded. >> there's a problem with the new fleet. another problem on top of the other high profile issues that needed fixes this year. amy hollyfield is in the west

portal neighborhood. >> muni put out tweets saying capacity will be smaller today because of equipment availability. they're saying they expect minimal impact, but are apologizing for it. according to the "san francisco chronicle" it's because muni needs new pins to connect its trains together, connect the cars. so today they will be running about a dozen trains with just one car instead of two. these are impacting the brand-new trains. the report says the pins that hold the trains together need to be replaced. the manufacturer is sending new pins and is paying for the replacements. the company, siemans, is also redesigning the pins so muni doesn't have to constantly replace them. muni bought 68 new trains in the last year from the new company. they had to fix the new brakes on the trains, add sensors to the doors and next year will need to replace the bench seats.

riders say they don't like the current ones. muni is calling this problem short-term and says to expect only crowded trains today. these are the new trains, it's going to be one car instead of two. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. in the east bay now, a big break in the case of a hair cut gone bad. the woman accused of running over a barber in antioch is now in custody. 28-year-old ruby delgadillo turned herself in yesterday. she's accused of ramming her car into a barbershop over a dispute over her son's hair cut. that was wednesday, decembe 4th. the impact pushed 63-year-old brian martin into the shop's front window. martin suffered severe leg injuries. a defense attorney in the ghost ship trial is asking for personal information of former jurors.

he wants the court to unseal information about past jurors in the case. the defense claims it could help them prepare his defense at a retrial expected next year. a jury deadlocked on involuntary manslaughter charges in september. 36 people died in that fire. jurors acquitted max harris. >> building a better bay area can sometimes get a little contentious. once again passionate parents shut down an oakland unified school board meeting last night. ♪ the protests as you can hear came in the form of christmas carol parodies. the oakland school board president moved the meeting. the coalition oakland not for sale claims the district mismanages money with little accountability. london says revenue is down and costs are up and she's adding that oakland has more schools to operate compared to bay area districts. >> oakland has 36,000 students in 83 schools.

michael bloomberg was in san francisco talking climate change yesterday. he attended a conference at the moscone center with former governor jerry brown. earlier he kicked off his california campaign swing in stockton. bloomberg told supporters he would propose using tax credits to partially pay for affordable housing. this morning samsung is opening a new store a few miles away from apple's headquarters. the new store is at stanford shopping center in palo alto and it is what it calls an experience retail store. it has every device with options not available at other outlets. housing the homeless on a cruise ship. the bay area city that is floating this unusual idea. workers at san francisco's spin do something that no other e-scooter company has done before. first, we get to your weather and meteorologist mike nicco and it's sort of like groundhog day, right? >> yes. very much.

here's one of our drier commutes. 87 south of san jose international, looking north. these clouds have enough moisture you could find pockets of drizzle in the south bay. the thickest fog is out in the central valley for today. some of this will roll our way tonight. look for more fog tomorrow morning. looking around the state, a lot of sunshine and warm temperatures around south. upper 60s to low 70s. rain in the lower elevations just snow in the peaks. traveling up there will be wet. at least it won't be frozen. here's when it will be frozen. noon tomorrow through 10:00 saturday morning, above 6,500 feet, up to a foot of snow is possible. kumasi? >> thanks. an idea is being floated in oakland to help build a better bay area by housing the homeless on a cruise ship.

rebecca kaplan brought up the idea during a council meeting. she says cruise ships have been used to shelter people in coastal areas left homeless by natural disasters. the port of oakland opposes the idea. officials say there just isn't the infrastructure to berth a ship. homeless advocates say they want a plan that offers permanent housing. police are investigating an unusual standoff in san francisco. this man climbed up several buildings near market and goff bringing traffic to a standstill. witnesses say it was nerve-racking to watch this man jump from one ledge to another, especially in the rain. police say this all started around 10:00 yesterday morning. they got a call of a man jumping into traffic and scaling a building. after five hours of police trying to coax him down. that's when he fell about 15 feet. >> from where i saw him originally where he was up 60, 70 feet. that fall would have killed him. i'm happy it was 15, but at the same time -- yeah, that's bad.
