this is a moment that has been long in the making. the new larkspur and downtown novato smart stations open this weekend. it will make it so much easier for north bay commuters to get t san francisco. >> it starts tomorrow but the celebration starts today. amy hollyfield is live at the larkspur station with more on that. amy? >> hi, reggie. i'm at the station, you take your train here, you park. and then you just take this foot bridge and walk over to the larkspur ferry for a lovely ride into san francisco. so the hope is that this will connect commuters who live up in sonoma, napa, northern marin county down here to their jobs in san francisco. but smart trains have had money problems. those issues have delayed the opening of this larkspur station. the station was approved by voters 11 years ago in 2008. so this is one of two new stations that will be opening. the other is in downtown novato. that will be open there as well

for smart train. services start at these stations tomorrow. they'll be celebrating with ribbon cutting ceremonies. in larkspur they'll have their ceremony at 1:00. novato will have a ceremony at 10:30 tomorrow morning. for the rest of this month the trains will have temporary schedules. in january they will get up to full speed and start their new timetable with more service. the next couple of weeks, think of it as getting used to it. january they're really up to speed. today is all about celebrating this new beginning. reporting live in larkspur, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> we're excited. i'm looking forward to it. thanks. the time is 4:31. good morning. we're getting a quick update on weather and traffic where you live starting with mike. >> let's start with our storm impact scale for today and for tonight. light to moderate rain, up to a third of an inch for our wettest areas, rough and dangerous surf.

our best radar returns, there's mount st. helena, there ithe latest data across northern mendocino county. it's moving west to each. it will stay up there. the rest of us will have mist and drizzle. fog is the biggest issue. thickest in santa rosa, petaluma and half moon bay. all of those areas under the dense fog advisory. oakland and haze wayward, visib is down to a mile. i think the weather service will have to broaden the dense fog advisory as it will get thicker the next couple of hours. the biggest challenge this evening is that it will be wet. >> the final committee vote on impeachment charges is expected in a few hours then they will go to the full house for a vote. the house judiciary committee went into recess after a 14-hour debate on the articles last night. the articles charge president trump with abuse of power and

obstruction of congress related to his dealings with ukraine. it's the final phase before the first official vote to impeach president trump. >> i want the members on both sides of the aisle to think about what happened over the last two days and to search their consciouses before we cast our final votes. >> they reconvene at 7:00 a.m. local time this morning. republicans could continue offering amendments, making for another long day. if they don't, the vote could go to the senate. the president says he wants an aggressive defense that includes live witnesses. top senate republicans say they don't want that because it would lengthen the trial. kumasi? >> thanks. it's a fund-raising frenzy for democratic presidential candidate joe biden in the bay area because there is big money in campaign contributions up for grabs. cornell barnard has those details. >> reporter: former vice president joe biden arriving at the fairmount hotel on nob hill ready to shake hands at a

private democratic fund-raiser hosted by senator diane feinstein and others. oakland mayor libby schaaf was one of 160 attendees. earlier sky seven was over the palo alto home of receventure capitalist greg sands. the events part of an in person and online biden fund-raising push happening since october. >> he's starting to put up great financial numbers now. he's done three events today. i think we were sold out in san francisco. >> reporter: he's playing a major role for democratic fund-raising this election. he believes the departure of senator kamala harris will mean more financial backing for biden. >> with her dropping out of the race i think she had a good showing. the question is who's going to

pick up most of that support and so far i think the answer is joe biden. >> but the deep pockets of michael bloomberg should not be counted out. >> he will have staying power. he can run a 50-state campaign. we'll see how he goes into the polls. >> reporter: this is biden's third fund-raising trip to the bay area and likely will not be his last. cornell barnard, abc7 news. >> happening today, the woman accused of ramming her car into a barber is set to be arraigned on attempted murder charges. antioch police say 28-year-old ruby delgadillo was upset over her son's hair cut. the encounter happened december 4th outside a barbershop. delgadillo drove at the barber after the argument. the impact pushed him through the glass storefront. the barber suffered severe leg injuries. she also faces child abuse and hit and run charges. new maps reveal the east bay and south bay are at a bigger risk of suffering damage from an

earthquake than any of us thought. this is the new hazard quake. the red is where there's a 75% or more risk of a damaging quake in the next 100 years. researchers raised the shake estimates in the south and east bays after taking a closer look at the soil. the usgs says these maps are not meant to scare people but help us prepare for a quake. this is what more than $2 million of stolen merchandise looks like. so if you had a laptop or a tablet or a phone or purse ripped off, it could be among these items put on display by the san francisco d.a.'s office. the stolen goods came from car break-ins, package thefts and store robberies. police say they turned up in electronic chop shops of sorts in their investigations. if you think one of these items is yours, we have information on who to contact at abc7news.com. three dog owner groups filed a federal lawsuit to fight for

eureka down to monterey and y yosemite where it turns into snow. we have a winter weather advisory from noon today until 4:00 sunday morning. snow levels start at 4,600 fee and then drop to 4,000 feet. a family's pictures are missing after their camera was stolen from their parked car, now they're hoping to buy the camera bark. kirk jacobson and his family are back in arizona but still reeling from their road trip through the bay area. their digital camera with hundreds of family photos on the sd card was stolen from their suv on sunday evening as they were inside a brentwood movie theater. he stashed the sony 8000 under the seat because he knew he couldn't bring it into the movie. through an ad on craigslist, he's saying he will pay $450 for the camera and the sd card or

$150 for just the sd card no questions asked. he has a serial number for the camera. he did file a police report, he's thinking it might be hard to sell the camera, but his real holiday wish is to get it in alameda county there's a 43% jump in homelessness this year. one non-profit is helping to get some homeless people into permanent housing. eric thomas has that. >> reporter: tiny doesn't describe how snug these homes are. 157 square feet with a small kitchen and full bath. >> i pray every night that please keep me safe. >> but to someone living on the street or in a car, it may feel like a mansion. >> i love it. i'm ready to move in. >> patricia soares spent the last two and a half years living out of her car. she was one of the first people to apply to live in one of the six tiny homes delivered to the

first presbyterian church. >> this would suit me just find because of the cold, it being very cold at night and not having the provisions to shower or, you know, use the rest room. >> a $200,000 county grant and donated labor and materials went into the homes. those selected can live here up for up to 18 months while they prepare to look for permanent housing. they'll have to have jobs because they have to pay rent. >> so it's going to start at $200, and then for four month, and then go to $400, 600, 800. >> this woman runs the church's homeless assistance programs. she says the church won't ofit from the rent. after utilities are covered, what's left over will be put in a savings and returned to the residents to help pay for permanent housing. >> i love this work. i want people to be housed. i want people to have dignity. in where they live and feel proud of who they e. and so i think this is one step in that direction. >> what's worth having is worth waiting for. >> eric thomas, abc7 news.

san francisco will have one more attraction to draw locals and tourists. >> mayor london breed announced a knnew 150-foot ferris wheel f the 150th anniversary of golden state park. it will feature enclosed gondolas that can seat six people each. rides will be free when it launches during the park-wide celebration april 4th. the wheel will operate for about 11 months until march of 2021. >> we need it there permanently. i'm already excited about that. >> you like that. >> just keep it. >> $18? that's not cheap. >> how nice will it be. >> you just go around once? >> it's a slow ride. it's like -- so you can get pictures. >> doing it for the graham. i get it.
